NORDSTROM, REV. PAUL, 47, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Paul was born August 6, 1956 in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Gale and Lois (Lindgren) Nordstrom. He married Julie Loftsgard on June 2, 1979 in Park River, North Dakota. Paul graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin, Golden Valley Lutheran College in Golden Valley, Minnesota, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He was ordained in 1983 and served churches in Clarissa, Minnesota, Nazareth Lutheran Church, in Cedar Falls, churches in Lamont and Dundee, Iowa, and was currently serving as pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale, Iowa. Paul died Wednesday , June 23, 2004, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 47 years.
Survivors include his wife, Julie, a son Andrew (Brooke Trent) Nordstrom of Cedar Falls, Iowa, two daughters Kirsten Nordstrom of Cedar Falls and her friend, Ben Arnold of Iowa city, Iowa and Amy Nordstrom of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his mother, Lois Nordstrom of Racine, Wisconsin a brother Roger (Rose) Nordstrom of Chicago, Illinois, and a sister Carol (Roger) Tonneman of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Paul was preceded in death by his father Gale Nordstrom.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale, Iowa. Interment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church, Alternative Pregnancy Council or Riverside Bible Camp in Story City, Iowa.
NORTHEY, GILBERT was born November 15, 1916 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Harry and Henrietta (Patterson) Northey. He married Joyce L. Edgerton August 6, 1942 in Midland, Texas. He was owner and treasurer of Herrick Refrigeration, retiring in 1974. Gilbert was a veteran of World War II. He died at St Mary’s Hospital, Tucson, Arizona on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the age of 84 years.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Northey of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four sons, Nathan Northey of Waterloo, Iowa, Steven Northey and Thomas Northey both of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Daniel Northey of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Mary Sullivan of Ulyesses, Kansas; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, Jaelyn Lentz and Austin Northey Funk, and one sister, Mary Knapp of Joshua Tree, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Norman Northey and one brother, Edward N. Northey Sr.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
NOVAK, ANNA JOLENE was born December 4, 1998 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Mike and Roxanne (Ackerman) Novak. She attended Valley Park Day Care Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Anna died Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at her home at the age of four months, twenty-three days.
Survivors include her parents, her brother, Robert at home, paternal grandparents, Ed & Agnes Novak of Elma, Iowa and her maternal grandparents, Ivan & Katherine Jolene Ackerman of Clarksville, Iowa. Anna was preceded in death by her great grandparents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
NUGENT, ELIZABETH , 95, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Ft. Dodge and Newton, Iowa, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Western Home, of natural causes. She was born May 1, 1905 in rural Cedar Falls, the daughter of Mads and Karen Marie (Andersen) Madsen. Elizabeth married Robert Nugent on November 19, 1934 in Ft. Dodge. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1966. She was a graduate of Pitze's Beauty School in Waterloo, Iowa and owned and operated a hairstyling salon for many years in both Newton and Ft. Dodge. Elizabeth and her husband also owned a gift shop in Ft. Dodge.
She is survived by her brother, Edwin Madsen and his wife Henriette of Cedar Falls, and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Nels Madsen, and four sisters, Julia Johnson, Anna Lynn, Elna Casebeer and Esther Thompson.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. Memorials may be directed to the church and the Cedar Falls Western Home.
OBERHAUSER, HENRY WILLIAM was born on October 4, 1934, at La Porte City, Iowa the son of Aloyious J. and Julia (Becker) Oberhauser. He married Phyllis J. Glaspie on May 26, 1957 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Henry served in the U. S. Army from 1957 – 1959 and was a maintenance welder at John Deere & Co. in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring in 1989. He was the owner and operator of Hank’s Welding Shop in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1998. Henry died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at 64 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Tamara K. Mauer of Cedar Falls and his son, Eugene Carl Oberhauser of Boling Brook, Illinois; one grandson, Curtis James Mauer; a brother, Bernard Oberhauser of La Porte City and three sister, his twin, Helen Schweer of Grimes, Iowa, Lillian Taylor of
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Oberhauser.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church.
OBERHEU, LESTER V. was born May 31, 1929 at Tripoli, Iowa, the son of William and Martha (Bockhaus) Oberheu. He married Leota Jacobson on May 6, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lester served in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked for the City of Waterloo Pollution Department before retirement. He died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 74 years.
Lester is survived by his wife, Leota Oberheu, of Waterloo; three sons, Myron (Nelda) Oberheu of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Oberheu of Waterloo and Myron (Michele) Oberheu of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Roberta (Marc) Monter, Sharon Bauler and Joyce (Shane) Pietan, all of Waterloo; sixteen grandchildren and one great grandson; and two brothers, Harold (Esther) Oberheu of Fredericka, Iowa and David (Lois) Oberheu of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edgar Oberheu and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church with burial at Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
OEHLER, VERNON E. was born August 4, 1931 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Helen (Noltensmeier) Oehler. He married Mary Campbell on August 30, 1952 in Cedar Falls and worked for Continental Baking Company in Waterloo, Iowa for a number of years, retiring in 1994. Vernon died Sunday, August 30, 1998 at his home in Cedar Falls at 67 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Mary; his children, Peggy J. Fuller, Laurie A. Trager, Connie J. Oehler and Lonnie E. Oehler, all of Cedar Falls, David W. Oehler of Carlisle, Iowa and Stephen L. Oehler of Des Moines, Iowa; his six grandchildren, Shana Fuller, Travis Oehler, Tiana Oehler and Jordan, Shelbi and Lindsey Oehler.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Oehler.
Services were held September 2, 1998 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorial fund to Cedar Valley Hospice or St. Patrick's Forward in Faith Fund.
OLDENBURGER, MAXINE E. was born December 26, 1917 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Edna A. (Otto) Miller. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa and from Moody Bible Institute in Miami, Florida. Maxine was Director of Nursing at Presbyterian Hospital in Waterloo and administrator of the LPN program at Waterloo Schools, which later became Hawkeye Institute of Technology. In later years, she became a real estate broker with her husband. Maxine died at her home Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her husband, John B. Oldenburger of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one daughter, Linda Osborn of West Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Marian Swank of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Vera Miller and Margaret Hinkley.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
OLIPHANT, GERTRUDE was born on September 5, 1914 at Scotch Grove, Iowa the daughter of Clarence Alden and Mary (Tritten) Sackett. She was united in marriage to John Oliphant on June 11, 1932 in Galena, Illinois. Gertrude died on Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at her home in Waterloo, Iowa at 84 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, John of Waterloo; two daughters, Carol Oliphant of Cedar Falls and Dolores Good and her husband Jim of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Lynn, Linda, Dawn, Bret, Lori, Lisa and Tina; nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Janice, Toni, Megan, Christopher, Sarah, Melanie, Mindy, John and a surrogate granddaughter, Nancy Heise and one brother, Robert Sackett of Waterloo.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Barbara MacLennan; one grandson, Jimmy, four sisters, Martha, Esther, Mildred and Juanita and three brothers, Elmer, Howard and Lyle.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 1998 at the funeral home with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Olmstead, Christine was born February 15, 1912 in Grundy County, Iowa the daughter of James and Jensine (Schmit) Dall. She married Albert Olmstead July 5, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. Christine was a Sales Associate at Younkers in Cedar Falls for many years retiring in 1984. She died Friday, October 5, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 89 years.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Olmstead, of Cedar Falls, one daughter, Barbara Thornberry and her husband, Al, of Menomonie Falls, Wisconsin; three grandsons, Jacob, Adam, and Benjamin Thornberry, and one sister-in-law, Wilma Dall of Reinbeck, Iowa. Christine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Holger Dall, and one sister, Ella Snow.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday October 9, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church.
OLSEN, MATHILDA M. , 86, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was born March 2, 1918 at Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Earl and Joy Elaine (Hanna) Whitcomb. Mathilda married George B. Olsen on May 24, 1940 at Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1997.
She is survived by her three sons, Tony Earl (Elaine) Olsen of Galveston, Texas, Lee Edward Olsen of Stillwater, Minnesota and Dale (Mimi Willis) Olsen of Cedar Falls; and six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mathilda was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Bob Whitcomb; a granddaughter, Rhiannon Olsen and a great-grandson, Jalen Quinn.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with intermenty at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.
OLSEN, RHIANNON MARIE was born November 8, 1980 at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Cindy (Mikkelsen) Olsen. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1999. Rhiannon attended Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. She was a recent graduate of LaJames Cosmetology College in Cedar Falls. Rihannon, age 22 years, along with her son, Jalen Quinn died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Waterloo, Iowa.
Rihannon is survived by her father, Dale Olsen of New Hartford, Iowa and her mother Cindy Olsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one brother, Gabriel (Gabe) Olsen of New Hartford, Iowa; one nephew, Drady Dunsmoor; her paternal grandmother, Mathilda Olsen of New Hartford, Iowa and her maternal grandmother, JaNette Mikkelsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a special friend, Melissa Lindaman of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, George Olsen and her maternal grandfather, Elmer Mikkelsen.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls, with burial at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
Olson, Darlene Evelyn (Minnick) was born March 14, 1917 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Howe) Minnick. She married Wirth Junior Olson July 26, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1986. Darlene died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Altera Clairbridge in Decatur, Georgia at the age of 84 years.
Survivors include her son, Roger Olson of Buffalo, New York; her daughter, Linda Bruck of Tucker, Georgia; three grandchildren, one great grandson, and two sisters, Donna Cronin of Buffalo, New York and Bernice Manross of Waterloo, Iowa.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Leland Minnick.
