SORENSEN, ELLEN LOUISE was born November 13, 1921 in Hudson, Ohio, the daughter of Alvin Charles and Minnie (Barnetson) Boose. She married Herluf H. Sorensen on May 21, 1953 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ellen was a secretary with Viking Pump Company for many years. She died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 79 years of age.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Herluf, of Cedar Falls and her sister, Janet Rayburn of Mason City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert W. Boose and Arthur J. Boose.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
SOUTHALL, CLARA FRANCES 104 of Cedar Falls died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born January 3, 1900 in Irwin, Iowa the daughter of William B. & Mary E. (Edwards) Rank. She married William A. Southall March 12, 1917 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death June 26, 1956.
Survivors include 13 grandchildren, including John (Holly) Southall and Andrea (Wade) Clark, all of Cedar Falls, 24 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sons, Donald & Howard Southall; one daughter, Gail Idso; one grandson, one great grandson; two brothers, Willis and LeRoy Rank; and two sisters, Hallie Olson and Hazel Clark
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. A private family service was held Friday. Interment took place at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund will be established.
SPEARS, MARLYS JEAN, 59, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was born May 17, 1940, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Mabel (Erickson) Tangen. Marlys married Stephen Spears on July 16, 1976 in Cedar Falls. She was a 1958 graduate of Cedar Falls High School. Marlys was employed as a welder for 10 years at Waterloo Industries, as a machinist for 3 years at John Deere & Company and was a preparation cook for over 10 years at The Brown Bottle restaurant in Cedar Falls. She was also a member of the Rambling Wheels Motorcycle Club in Waterloo.
Marlys is survived by her husband Stephen, of Cedar Falls; her son, Jeff of Iowa City, Iowa and her daughter, Cindy Barrett and her husband Rick of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Amber and Ben Barrett; her brother, Gary Tangen and her sister Joann Layton, both of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
STACY, VIRGINIA HELEN, was born June 15, 1925 in Racine, Wisconsin the daughter of Ben J. and Caroline J. (Beard) Weber. She married Richard L. Finkbeiner and they were later divorced. She married Wilbert Stacy June 16, 1973 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Virginia was employed as a bookkeeper with Wisconsin Gas and Electric for 10 years until moving to Cedar Falls, Iowa. She died Saturday, March 27, 1999 at her home at the age of 73 years.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbert Stacy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her son, Rick Finkbeiner of Osceola, Indiana; four stepsons, Don Stacy of Waverly, Iowa, Bill Stacy of Madison, Wisconsin, Jim Stacy of Verona, Wisconsin, and Dennis Stacy of Scottsdale, Arizona; one stepdaughter, Linda Peterman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one brother, Leo Weber of Racine, Wisconsin and two sisters, Florence Greeley and Jeanette Schultz, both of Racine, Wisconsin. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Bonnie and JoAnn Finkbeiner; two brothers, Raymond and Edward Weber, and two sisters, Lydia Marie Weber and Evelyn Weber.
Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa with burial at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A memorial fund will be established.
STAUDINGER, LINDA KAY, was born November 1, 1956 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Darlyne (Kneeskern) Nelson. She married Michael W. Schatzberg on October 18, 1975 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1985. Linda married Brett Staudinger on January 17, 1992. They were later divorced. Linda was a supervisor at Waterloo Tent and Tarp before her illness. She died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, at 43 years of age.
Linda is survived by her two daughters, Krista Schatzberg and Kari Schatzberg, both of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Kayla Schatzberg and Tyler Smith; her brother, Chris Nelson of Cedar Falls and her two sisters, Lori Navarro and Dawn Bogardus, both of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Homer Lockwood.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
STEVENS, THELMA I. PATTERSON was born January 6, 1925 in Aredale, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Ubben) Patterson. She married John D. Stevens on September 28, 1946 in Aredale. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1993. Thelma worked in the laundry department at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, both in Waterloo, Iowa. She died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, at 77 years of age.
Thelma is survived by her son, Mike (Angela) Stevens of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Lynette Opperman and Stephanie Stevens, both of Waterloo and Eric Schumacher of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Opperman; tow brothers, Victor Patterson of Los Angeles, California and Lavern (Evelyn) Patterson of Cedar Falls, and a twin sister, Velma Patterson of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and a daughter, Carol Schumacher.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2002, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
STEWART, EVELYN LOUISE ISLEY was born November 6, 1926, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Ida A. (Linde) Isley. She married Donald J. Stewart on April 18, 1946 in Cedar Falls. Evelyn was a 1944 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and worked at several restaurants in the area. She was a past member of the Postal Auxiliary in Cedar Falls. Evelyn died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, at 76 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Linde “Stub” Hoppes and Peg “Missy” (Bob Neuhaus) Orvis, both of Cedar Falls; a son, Donald E. (Nancy) Stewart of Aplington, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Crase of Cedar Falls, Bill Stewart of Aplington, David Walvatne of Waterloo, Iowa and Amanda Stewart of Aplington; two great-grandchildren, Michael Crase of Cedar Falls and Savannah Walvatne of Evansdale, Iowa; and two brothers, Charles A. (Mary Lou) Isley of Waterloo and Larry G. (Judy Fox) Isley of Cedar Falls. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Vicki Jo Stewart; an infant sister, Juanita Isley and three brothers, Robert and James Isley, and Jerry Isley in infancy.

STOCK, LUELLA (MARTHA), 1901 Iowa St. in Cedar Falls, was born September 13, 1907 in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Lena (Felsman) Manifold. She married Kenneth L. Stock on May 27, 1934, in Clarion, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1995. Luella and her husband farmed in the Latimer and Dumont areas, then moved to Cedar Falls in 1952. She was past Noble Grand and held other offices in the Rebekah's Lodge in Cedar Falls and Dumont. Luella was a member of church circles at Dumont United Methodist Church, Dumont, and United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls. She died Saturday, January 1, 2000, at Urbandale Healthcare Center in Urbandale, Iowa, at 92 years of age.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Sandra Mulligan and her husband Michael, and her granddaughter, Linde Mulligan, all of Ankeny, Iowa; and her two sisters, DeAlda Ackerman and Kate Swanson, both of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her brother, Clarence Manifold, and her three sisters, Merie Stamp, Opal Williams and Lola Manifold.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2000 at Dumont United Methodist Church, with burial at Dumont Cemetery, both in Dumont, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
STOFFREGEN, SCOTT O. was born November 4, 1958 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Orville and Lorraine (Fuller) Stoffregen. He married Sara Hansen November 4, 1984 in Waverly, Iowa. Scott was a truck driver for Omega Cabinets in Waterloo, Iowa. He died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the age of 41 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sara, of Plainfield, Iowa; two sons, Zach of Cedar Rapids and Tanner at home; two daughters, Amanda and Lindsey, both at home; and two stepdaughters, Jamee and Casee, both at home; his mother, Lorraine Escher of Cedar Falls, and three sister, Diane Caley of Lawton, Iowa, Joan Pedelty of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Marsha Wilkens of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death his father and his stepfather, Dick Escher.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000 at First Baptist Church with a private inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Scott Stoffregen Memorial Fund established for his children at Wells Fargo Bank.
STRATTON, KIMBERLY SUE was born August 11, 1969 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of Gary and Maxine (Horness) Stratton. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa and her Master’s Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Kimberly was the Publications and Marketing Coordinator for the Fire Service Institute at Iowa State University. She died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines from injuries received in a automobile accident. She was 30 years of age.
Survivors include her parents, Gary & Maxine Stratton of Hudson; two brothers, Galen Stratton and his wife, Teresa, of Williamsburg, Iowa, Garrett Stratton and his wife, Stephanie, of Altoona, Iowa; her sister, Karmin Stratton of Hudson, her paternal grandparents, Galen & Lois Stratton of Ames and her close friend, Troy Walker, of West Des Moines, Iowa. Kim was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Haakon & Elizabeth Horness.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, Iowa with burial in the Hudson Cemetery. A Memorial Fund will be established.
STRICKER, VIOLA K. M. was born March 15, 1913 in Benton County, Iowa, the daughter of Willie and Metha (Christensen) Jurgens. She married Claus H. Stricker on February 25, 1931 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1975. Viola and Claus operated the Mapelton, Iowa airport for fifteen years and were the owners of Stricker Air Service in South Sioux City, Nebraska for five years. Viola was a member of the OX5 Aviation Pioneers. She died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 89 years of age.
Viola is survived by her son, Claus W. Stricker and his wife Marlene of Blue Eye, Missouri; four grandchildren, Claus W. Stricker, Jr., Kim M. Timson, David J. Stricker and Daniel J. Stricker; eight great-grandchildren and five sisters, Virginia Abernathy of Traer, Iowa, Isabel Schuck of Desert Hot Springs, California, and Dorothy Morrison, Caroline Rock and Mildred Fisher, all of La Porte City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and a sister, Mabel Rauser.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002, at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City, Iowa, with burial at Dysart Cemetery in Dysart, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
STUKENBERG, LOIS W. was born May 7, 1911 in Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Alton and Myrtle (Whitney) Elliott. She married Fred H. Stukenberg on March 22, 1930 in Sumner, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1984. Lois farmed with her husband and family for many years in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a 4-H Club Leader and was a member of the Farm Bureau. Lois died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Center of the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls, at 90 years of age.
She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Wallace (John) of Rogers, Arkansas, Colleen Shader of Ames, Iowa and Judy Rizer (Don) of Kiowa, Colorado; two sons, Dennis Stukenberg (Elva) of Mayer, Arizona and Terry Stukenberg (Margaret) of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, June Wolfensperger of Cedar Falls, Jean Cuvelier (Ivan) and Audrey Wilson (Bob), both of New Hartford, and a brother, Bud Elliott (Gladys) of Cedar Falls. Lois was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a granddaughter, Kathy Neef, four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice and the church.
SULLIVAN, TIMOTHY ALLEN "TIM" , 47, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Harmony House Health Care Center, in Waterloo. Tim was born August 15, 1956, at Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Lucille (Pickett) Sullivan Sr. He was married to Kim Schmitt. Tim worked as a steel fabricator & welder for Iowa Fabrication & Machinery in Waterloo.
Tim is survived by his wife, Kim, of Cedar Falls; one step son, Blue Schmitt of Cedar Falls; his mother, Lucille Sullivan of Evansdale; four brothers, Arthur Sullivan Jr. of Clermont, Iowa, John “Jack” Sullivan of Shipman, Illinois, Brian (Jensine) Sullivan of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Stephen (Robbi) Sullivan of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one sister, Patricia “Patsy” (Terry) Wellman of Fayette, Iowa.
Tim was preceded in death by his father.

SWEET, DOROTHY EVELYN , 82, of Rochester, Minnesota and formerly of Cedar Falls died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born February 9, 1921 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of Carl & Maleta (Dick) Behrens. She married Allen E. Sweet February 9, 1941 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1960. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse at Rochester Methodist Hospital retiring in January 1986.
Survivors include her son, Larry Sweet of Ottumwa, her daughter, Linda Mally of Roboro, North Carolina, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth (Marjorie) Behrens and her sister, Margaret Behrens both of Cedar Falls. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Dale Behrens.
A Graveside Service was held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 25, 2003 at Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls.
SYHLMAN, ALVIN F. 85, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Dike died Monday, April 26, 2004 at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born December 11, 1918 in rural Dike, son of Ella Syhlman, who later married Jacob Everts. He married Viola Tjepkes April 22, 1943 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Alvin was a retired farmer and had a tiling business, and he also served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1945.
Alvin is survived by his wife, a son Steve (Pamela) Syhlman of Waterloo, a son in-law Raymond Bertram of Waterloo, a daughter Sylvia (Robert) Frenchick of Iowa Falls, six grandchildren, Brian Bertram, Mark Bertram, Chad Syhlman, Matt Syhlman, Phillip Frenchick and Rachel Frenchick, nine great– grandchildren, a half brother Lester (Hazel) Everts of Cedar Falls, and two half sisters Ella (Harlan) Eckhoff of Cedar Falls and Tena (Warren) Behrends of Traer. He was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Bertram, and his mother and step-father.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with intermenty at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
