ARLINGTON -- Richard "Ross" Ridenour, 93, of Arlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Matilda "Tillie"; two sons, Samuel of Arlington and Rodney of Bozeman, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle of Monticello and Mark of Waterloo; and five sisters, Dorothy Roseman of Sun City, Ariz., Alice Nield of Waterloo, Sarah Brown of Burbank, Calif., Velma Yelden of Dundee and Mera Glew of Peoria, Ariz.; he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Willard; and a sister, Laura Childs; services were Saturday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington; a memorial fund has been established; Mr. Ridenour farmed for many years and was a charter member of the Rural Electric Cooperative.
RUDD -- William R. Sieling, 73, of Rudd, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at home of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Ardamae; a stepson, Dennis Kleen of California; a stepdaughter, Darla Billings of California; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by a brother; and a sister; there will be no services; Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements; memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City Center, or to the family; Mr. Sieling was a B-17 gunner for the U.S. Air Corps during World War II, was an electrical distribution lineman after the war, and was president of the Rudd Lions Club.
HAZLETON -- Dora E. McCalley, 74, of Hazleton, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a long illness; survivors include three daughters, Julia Byerly of Cedar Rapids, Peggy Beaner of Humboldt, S.D., and Sally Kuecker of Tripoli; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Betty Kramer and Norma Cumberland, both of Oelwein, Jean McCardle of Independence and Wanda Humphrey of Oakland, Ark.; she was preceded in death by her husband, Alva J., on Nov. 18, 1990; a son, Stephen; two grandsons; and a brother, Melvin; services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial in Wilson Cemetery, Independence; friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and for an hour before services Monday at the church; a memorial fund has been established; Mrs. McCalley was a telephone operator during World War II and also helped to fuel planes in California.
