Services: Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at the Salem Church in Lincoln, Iowa with Rev. Richard Banzhaf officating. Burial will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Friday at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer

Ervol A. Fink was born September 4, 1914 at Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Charles C. and Margaret (Sienknecht) Fink. Ervol was raised in Lincoln, Iowa where he attended public schools. On February 26, 1935 he was united in marriage to Edna Mae Tiffany at Toledo, Iowa. Ervol and Edna made their home all their married life in the Lincoln area where Ervol was a Well Driller for Hoeg and Ames for 44 years retiring in 1966. In later years they moved to Gladbrook where Edna’s death came on May 3, 1999. In free time Ervol enjoyed woodworking and attending craft shows. Ervol attended the Salem Church of Lincoln and was a member of the Gladbrook Masonic Lodge, Lincoln Fire Department and the Moose Lodge in Marshalltown; he had also served several terms on the Lincoln City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna, one daughter Rose Ella Rittgers on April 12, 2001, one grandson Barry Hopes and three brothers Gerald, Elwood and Elgin and one sister Evelyn Scott. He is survived by one son and his wife Roland and Gail Fink of Lincoln, and one daughter and her husband Sharol and Mel Hopes both of Gladbrook, a son-in-law Merle Rittgers of Lincoln, two sisters, Alice Fink and Betty Fink both of Gladbrook, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Cynthia K. (McKinney) Forbes
Services: Visitation is to be held on Friday, March 30, 2001 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. The funeral service is on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 3:00pm at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Burial is at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.

Cynthia Kaye (McKinney) Forbes was born on September 26, 1956 at Waterloo, Iowa; the daughter of Harry Allen and Dorothy Mae (Stueben) McKinney. She was raised in rural Traer, attended Dinsdale School and later graduated from North Tama High School in the Class of 1974. Cindy continued her education at Hawkeye Tech where she received an Associates Degree in Photography in 1976. She worked for a time at the Traer Star Clipper and American Professional Color in the photography field. For nearly five years Cindy has worked at the Home Depot in Waterloo. Cindy enjoyed her work at Home Depot and had looked forward to returning to work there. She was very grateful to the people at work and others within the community that were very supportive to her. In free moments she especially enjoyed photography, gardening, baking, and spending time with friends and family. In recent months Cindy had been fighting a battle with cancer and her death came at her home, surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the age of 44 years. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother Samuel Russell McKinney. Cindy is survived by her mother Mae McKinney of Traer, a son Jacob Forbes with the U.S. Navy in Brunswick, Maine, a daughter Jenna Forbes of Traer, a brother Mike McKinney and a sister Patty McKinney both of Traer.
Patricia "Patti" Freemon

Patricia “Patti” Ann Adams Freemon was born November 25, 1960 at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of C. Patricia (Ayotte) and Richard Lee Adams Sr. Patti received her education in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in the Class of 1980. She then entered the Job Corps in Denison, Iowa and later attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo where she studied nursing. She then made her home in Dysart and Traer where she had been employed at the Sunnycrest Care Center and Sunrise Hill Care Center. More recently she has been a patient at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where her death came on Saturday, January 6, 2001 at the age of 40 years. Patti was a member of the Urbana Christian Church and currently was attending the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer. In free moments she enjoyed crafts, cooking, traveling and her animals. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Lee Adams Jr. and her twin Michael Gene Adams. She is survived by one son; Jeremy Michael Freemon of Dysart, one daughter; Nicole Carmen Adams of Urbana, her mother and step father; C. Patricia and Jon Felker of Urbana, her father; Richard Lee Adams Sr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, one sister; Diana Whitehead of Grand Island, Nebraska and a half sister Carie Becker of Marengo, Iowa.
Harlan "Harley" F. Gordon

Harlan Fred Gordon was born at Postville, Iowa on Jan. 13, 1909, the son of Oscar and Malinda (Kluss) Gordon. At an early age Harley moved with his family to Waterloo where he received his education and attended East High School. Harley was an accomplished musician and played in several bands that traveled Iowa and the Midwest. He was a member of the Joe Doakes well know band for many years. In 1940 Harley married Louise C. Myers and was later divorced in 1968. In his early years Harley also worked at Walnut Dairy and in later years was employed at the See Electric Co. in Waterloo, retiring in 1972. Harley was an active member of the Cedar Falls Gun Club for many years and the American Federation of Musicians. In recent months Harley’s health had failed and he was a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer, when his death came on Friday, Sept. 7,2001 at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Judy (Rudy) Wieck of Traer, Jeanne Gordon of Waterloo, and Mrs. Joanne (Dick) Rickert of Traer.
Alvin A. Homolar
Services: Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002 from 1:00 - 5:00pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. The funeral service is on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at 10:00 am also at the Overton funeral Home in Traer. Burial will be at National Cemetery in Vining, IA. A lunch will follow at the Traer County Club.

Alvin Homolar was born September 26, 1911 at Elberon, Iowa, the son of Charles and Tina (Kubik) Homolar. Alvin received his education near Elberon in York # 1 Country School. On June 29, 1935 he was united in marriage to Gladys Duchacek by the Justice of Peace in Toledo, Iowa. They then made their home farming in the Elberon area and later on a farm near Hudson. After his retirement in 1979 they continued to live on the farm until moving to Waterloo In 1999. More recently Alvin had become a resident of Manor Care Facility. Alvin’s death came at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the age of 90 years. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge and in free time enjoyed auctions and buying antiques to give to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters Donna and Dawn. He is survived by his wife Gladys, one daughter and her husband, Darlene and Robert Witry of LaPlace, Louisiana, two sons and their wives, Don and JoAnn Homolar and Dwain and Peggy Homolar all of Waterloo, one brother Wilfred Homolar of Elberon, and 7 grandchildren.
Tyler C. Hubbard
Services: Visitation is on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 from 2-9pm at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. The funeral service is on Thursday, August 16, 2001 at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Burial is at Oneida Cemetery in rural Clutier, followed by a lunch at the Zion Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

Tyler Cas Hubbard was born December 28, 1985, the son of Douglas and Nancy (Caslavka) Hubbard. Tyler received his education in the South Tama Schools in Tama and Toledo and in the past year was enrolled at North Tama in Traer where he had completed 8th grade. Tyler made his home with his parents on a farm northeast of Clutier and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and showing his dogs and horses. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and was a member of the Clutier Cowboys and Cowgirls 4H Club. Tyler’s death came at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City on Monday, August 13, 2001, at the age of 15 years. He was preceded in death by one sister Chelsea, paternal grandmother Darlys Hubbard and paternal and maternal great grandparents. He is survived by his parents Douglas and Nancy Hubbard of Clutier, paternal grandfather Donald Hubbard of Dysart and his maternal grandparents, Bob and Marcella Caslavka of Clutier.
Steven Dean Jacobs
Services: Services were held Monday, November 13, 2000 at 10:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer by Rev. Rick Vesely.
Memorial Fund: Steven Dean Jacobs was born November 29, 1953 at Waterloo, Iowa. He received his education in Traer, graduating in the Class of 1972. Jake then began working at Funks Hybrid Seed Corn Company at the Traer Plant and later at Belle Plaine, IA. On June 9,1979, Jake married Sandra Seda at Clutier, Iowa and they made their home in the rural Traer community. In 1993 they moved to make their home in Clutier. For the past several years Jake has been employed at Traer Manufacturing where he worked in shipping. In free moments he enjoyed spending time with his girls, watching sports, playing softball, and playing cards. On Thursday, November 9, 2000, Jake’s death came at the age of 46, as a result of a car accident on the way to work. He is survived by his wife Sandra of Clutier, four daughters, Alicia of Cedar Rapids, Jenna, Breanna, and Marah all at home, his parents Ron and Delores Jacobs of Traer, a grandmother Luella Jacobs of Traer, two brothers, Daron of Traer and Joe of Memphis, TN, and one sister Deb of Cedar Falls.
James F. Jennings
Services: Visitation is on Tues., Sept. 18, 2001 from 4-6pm. The funeral service is on Wed., Sept. 19, 2001 at 9:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Burial is at Buckingham Cemetery in rural Traer followed by a lunch at the church basement.

James F. Jennings was born March 15, 1911 in Jefferson County near Mount Vernon, Illinois. Jim received his education at Dix, Illinois and then began working for Brown’s Shoe Company where he met his wife Evelyn Hendren. Jim and Evelyn were married on December 6, 1934 at Sullivan, Illinois and they made their home in that area where Jim continued his employment with Brown’s. Later he worked in the steel mills of Illinois and Indiana during and after WWII. Then he returned to Sullivan and worked as a police officer. In 1961 they moved to Laurens, Iowa where he worked as a carpenter and a police officer at Havelock. They then moved to Sioux Rapids, Iowa and later to Colfax, Iowa where he continued his work in law enforcement. They then moved to Newton, Iowa where he took a job as custodian for the Newton High School until his retirement. In 1989 they moved to be near their daughter Janet Felts in Traer, Iowa where they have continued to live. More recently Jim has been a resident of the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo where he died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at the age of 90 years. In free times he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, carpentry and woodworking. He also enjoyed spending time reading especially westerns written by Louis Lamour. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eula Gaston and Maude Mullinax. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, two daughters; Janet (Mrs. John) Felts of Traer, and Wilda King of Highlandville, MO, three brothers Roy and Robert Jennings of Morton, IL and Tom Jennings of Sullivan, IL, two sisters, Nellis Moske of Virginia and Wilma McGhee of Mount Vernon, IL, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. James loved his family above anything else.
Marvin Kern
Services: Services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001 at 1:30 pm at the Amity United Presbyterian Church in rural Reinbeck, Iowa with Diane Martin officiating. Burial will be at the Lincoln Township Cemetery in rural Voorhies, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer where the family will be present from 2-4 pm

Marvin G. Kern was born September 18, 1926 at Shelby, Iowa, the son Lowell and Alice (Porter) Kern. Marvin received his education at Dinsdale where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1944. Marvin then entered the US Army where he served his country from 1944 to 1946 during WW II. Following his discharge he returned to the Traer area and on June 17, 1947 was united in marriage to Helen Jackson at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Marvin and Helen then made their home farming north of Traer until moving into town in 1996. Marvin’s death came on Friday, March 30, 2001 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at the age of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Denzel who died in infancy and Wentzel. He is survived by his wife Helen, one son Curtis of Traer, five daughters: Sandra Barfels of Reinbeck, Jeanne Beenken of Buckingham, Barbara Bond of LeGrand, Penny Anderson and Linda Hamer both of Traer, two brothers: Byron Kern of Hudson and Roy Kern of Traer, two sisters: Ruth Wood of Traer and Marjorie Cufr both of Traer, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Sarah Margaret Kersten
Services: A visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 29, 2001 from 6-8pm at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. The funeral service is on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at 10:30 am, also at Overton Funeral Home. Burial is at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer followed by a luncheon at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Sarah “Margaret” Kersten was born in Jackson Township near Vinton, Iowa on September 25,1911, the daughter of Charles D. and Ida A. (Metcalf) Alcorn. Margaret received her education in country school and later attended high school in Vinton. She married Floyd R. Kersten on January 15, 1930 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Margaret and Floyd made their home farming in Geneseo Township in Tama County for the first six years of their marriage. They then moved to farm near Vinton for seven years before returning to farm in Geneseo Township in 1942. In addition to raising her family, Margaret enjoyed cooking and gardening. In 1957 Margaret and Floyd moved to their home in Traer where Margaret continued to live following Floyds’s death on October 18,1981. In 1988 Margaret moved to Washington State to be near family. In recent years Margaret’s health had failed and she was a resident of Molly’s Manor in Vancouver, Washington when her death came on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the age of 89 years. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Donald, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Everett ( Ida Marie) Konrardy of Burnsville, MN and Mrs. Gene (Janis) Wilkins of Ridgefield, WA., as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
