TRAER -- Harry F. Hansen, 79, of Holiday Lake, Brooklyn, formerly of Traer and Cedar Falls, died Thursday night, Dec. 24, 1998, at home of cancer; survivors include his wife, Charlotte; three sons, Roger of Carlisle, Keith of Laurinburg, N.C., and Randy of Traer; three daughters, Janet Grauvogel of Eagle River, Alaska, Carmen Hansen of Carlisle and Janine Peters of Traer; a brother, Raymond of Atlantic; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; preceded in death by three sons and two daughters; services will be noon Monday at Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with burial at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cedar Falls; friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Nevenhoven Funeral Home; Mr. Hansen was a retired foundry worker at John Deere & Co.

GRUNDY CENTER -- George Frost Wilheim, 84, of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at the extended care unit of Grundy Memorial Hospital of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Anne; and a brother, Harold "Curt" of Cincinnati; private family services are planned; Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, is in charge of arrangements; memorials to the George F. Wilheim Trust in care of Grundy National Bank; Mr. Wilheim graduated from Iowa State University in 1937, and after graduating went to work for R. S. Bacon Veneer Co., becoming executive vice president of the firm in 1945; in 1963 he led an employee buyout of the firm, becoming its chairman.

SHELL ROCK -- Arlo H. Walters, 86, of Shell Rock, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease; survivors include his wife, Lillian of Waverly; a son, Gordon of Waverly; a stepson, Tim Allen of St. Cloud, Minn.; three stepdaughters, Sheila Albrecht and Penny Marlette, both of Shell Rock, and Deb Hamilton of Waverly; five grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose; a son, Dennis; and a sister, Esther Christophel; services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Shell Rock; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday; visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church; memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established at a later date; Mr. Walters farmed, worked for Larkin Construction Co., and later worked at the Shell Rock elevator until retirement.

Mott,89, of Mason City, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City, of natural causes; services 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, both in Mason City; visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today Hogan-Bremer Funeral Home, Mason City, (515) 423-2372; among survivors is a son, Roger E. of Waterloo; memorials to the Clifford R. ELDORA -- William "Bill" Mairs, 46, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Eldora, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in San Antonio of cancer; services pending at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora, (515) 858-2181.

OELWEIN -- Mildred L. "Jackie" McGonigle, 61, of Oelwein, died at home Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, of natural causes; services pending at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, (319) 283-4922.

INDEPENDENCE -- Stuart D. Briggs, 56, of rural Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Peoples Memorial Long Term Care Center, Independence, of natural causes; survivors include a son, Dean of Independence; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Jeanette Bush of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie Nicol of Rapid City, S.D., and Joan Shank of Winthrop; he was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Grayce Skinner Briggs; and two brothers, Robert and Allen; there will be no services, his body was cremated; White Funeral Home, Independence, is in charge of arrangements; Mr. Briggs was a Linotype operator in several print shops and also at the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

CLARKSVILLE -- Katherine Klunder, 74, of Clarksville, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Waverly Municipal Hospital, Waverly, of natural causes; survivors include her husband, Beryl Martin; a son, Roger Klunder of Oronoco, Minn.; three daughters, Beverly Miller of Waverly, Barbara Sue Ross of Braymer, Mo., and Carolee Flynn of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Klunder, on Dec. 6, 1988; a son, Jim Martin; and a brother, Sam Shirrell; services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville; friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m Thursday at Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville; there will be a 7:30 p.m. Rebekah service today at the funeral home; memorials may be directed to the church; Mrs. Klunder was a retired school teacher, having taught in Raymond and Gilbertville.

SUMNER -- Charles Louis Jach, 93, formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., of natural causes; survivors include a daughter, Dora Lanphear of Plains, Mont.; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren; he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, on Aug. 16, 1989; a brother, James Sr.; and three sisters, Helen Hindall Jach, Maggie Fish and Aggie McGee; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner, with burial in West Union Cemetery, West Union; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church; Mr. Jach drove an egg truck for Wilharm Produce, Sumner, and later worked for Sumner Light Plant, retiring in 1970.

Schmall, 90, of Charles City, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Salsbury Baptist Home, Charles City, of natural causes; survivors include two sons, James of Millington, Tenn., and Anton "Tony" of Ida Grove; six daughters, Katherine Osterman of Rockwell, Rose Perrin of Charles City, Barbara Bean of Nashua, Patricia Barr of Dubuque, Dorothy Mosher of Torrence, Calif., and Donna Lawless of Bettendorf; 33 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Leo Schmall of Marion; he was preceded in death by two sisters; and a brother; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Charles City; friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil Scriptural wake service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary; visitation also from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Educational Development Fund or the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund; Mr. Schmall farmed in the Nashua area for over 50 years.

DENVER -- Lillian Bergmann, 84, of Denver, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes; survivors include two sons, Duane of Waverly and LaVerne of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters, Marlys Wolfensperger of Waterloo and Donna Hulsing of Denver; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Ohmann of Manteca, Calif., and Vernie Ohmann of Denver; she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in 1970; two sisters, Minnie Kelley and Hilma Tiedt; and a brother, Carl Ohmann; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Denver, with burial in the church cemetery; friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to the church or to the family; Mrs. Bergmann worked as a cook for the Denver schools for 16 years.
