Loraine M. Ericksen Ames (1920-2006)
CEDAR FALLS -- Loraine M. Ericksen Ames, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, April 19, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
She was born July 24, 1920, in Butler County, daughter of Jim and Mary Miller Jacobsen. She married Glen L. Ericksen Dec. 11, 1942, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls. He died May 28, 1970. She married Sylvan R. Ames Feb. 6, 1971, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Aug. 21, 1999.
She was a graduate of Dike High School and Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She taught country school and farmed with her husband, and also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at Fredsville Lutheran Church. Loraine was a member of Fredsville Lutheran Church and a Friend of Salem Church, Lincoln, Iowa. She was also a member of Living Branches Service Organization and the Mobile Nobles. Loraine and Sylvan wintered in Mission, Texas, where they loved to play golf.
Survived by: a stepdaughter, Sally Stoehr of Gladbrook; three stepgrandchildren, Jeff Stoehr of Beaman, Stacy Stoehr of Lincoln and Kelcey Stoehr of Des Moines; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Kaily, Shelly and Clay Stoehr; two nephews, Darryl (Peggy) Sherwood and Delmar Sherwood, both of Dike; a niece, Denise (John) Craig of Stout; and many cousins.
Preceded in death by: her parents; both husbands; and a sister, Arvilla Sherwood.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with burial in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.

Kenneth P. Wagner (1935-2006)
NASHUA -- Kenneth Paul Wagner, 70, of Nashua, died Wednesday, April 19, in the emergency room at Waverly Health Center, Waverly, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born Oct. 11, 1935, in Butler County, son of Oscar and Emma Biekert Wagner. He married Louise A. Losee on June 10, 1962, at United Methodist Church in Rockford.
Mr. Wagner graduated from Nashua High School in 1954. He worked with his father in the Wagner Woodwork & Welding business, and later became owner and operator of Wagner Sales & Service, retiring in 1994.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Paul (Kathy) of Nashua and Evan (Heidi Miller) of Plainfield; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Emma) of Greene and Max (Bonnie) of Eagan, Minn.; and a sister, Jean (Darrell) Weigand of Nashua.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Nashua. Public visitation 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Ruth M. Van Benschoten (1917-2006)
PLAINFIELD -- Ruth M. Van Benschoten, 88, formerly of Plainfield, died Tuesday, April 18, at Heritage Towers Health Care, Doylestown.
She was born April 25, 1917, in Lee's Summit, Mo., daughter of John James and Geniva Satterlee Hulme. She married the Rev. Alfred O. Van Benschoten. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Van Benschoten and her husband were Baptist missionaries in Thailand and had served at several American Baptist churches.
Survivors include: two sons, Lynniel Q. of Castle Rock, Colo., and Eric J. of Quebec, Canada; a daughter, Roselyn R. Armstrong of Greenville, N.C.; and a sister, Dorsey Stewart of Nevada state.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Willow Lawn Cemetery, both in Plainfield. Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, Doylestown, is in charge of arrangements. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of local arrangements.
Heather M. Brincks (1969-2006)
WATERLOO -- Heather Michele Brincks, 36, of Washburn, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
She was born Aug. 29, 1969, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Richard and Cheryl McFarling Hart. She married Darin Brincks on March 16, 2002, in Waterloo.
Heather graduated from Waterloo West High School and then with high honors from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. She was employed with Advance Auto Parts in commercial sales. She was a part-time substitute teacher and had been a pre-school teacher at Community United Child Care.
She was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. Heather enjoyed playing softball, which she started playing in the fourth grade. She was also a band and orchestra member throughout her years at West High and enjoyed music and was an avid reader of both children's and adult books. She enjoyed working, shopping, scrapbooking, photography, crafts, card making and racing and most of all spending time with family and friends. She was a kind and loving person.
Survivors include her husband, Darin of Washburn; a son, Elliott John Brincks of Washburn; her parents of Waterloo; her father and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Thelma Brincks of Washburn; a brother, Brett (Mindy) Hart of Waverly; a sister-in-law, Debbie (Mark) Schaefer of Waukesha, Wis.; her paternal grandmother, Opal Hart of Winterset; four nieces, Emma and Elleri Schaefer and McKenna and Maggie Hart; and a nephew, Tucker Hart.
Preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, George Hart; and her maternal grandparents, Willis and Hazel McFarling.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilbertville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation will also continue for an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.

Heather was a loving wife, mother, daughter, aunt and friend.
WATERLOO -- Ruth D. Bowman, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Allen Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 18, 1915, in Fredericksburg, daughter of Fred and Pearl Flynn Salsbury. She married Lester William Bowman on March 26, 1944. They were later divorced.
Survived by: a son, Fred Lester of Bothell, Wash.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild; five sisters, Dorothy Passmore of Charles City, Grace Rogers of Mason City, Phyllis Miller of Waverly, Eleanore Parr of Albuquerque, N.M., and Floy Hummel of Fremont, Calif.
Preceded in death by: four sisters, Myrtle Ackley, and Hazel, Beth and Carol Salsbury; and three brothers, Ralph and Donald Salsbury, and her twin, Ray Salsbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Parrot & Wood Family Funeral Care and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Keith L. Cue, 78, of Webster City, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Hamilton Hospital, Webster City, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Dow City, son of Lester and Helen Rule Cue. He married Elaine Evenson on Dec. 5, 1947, in Austin, Minn.
Mr. Cue was trained as an agent telegrapher for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and in 1941 started work as a railroad clerk in Osage, then Orchard and St. Ansgar. In 1948 he was appointed auditor for the ICGRR and worked in Cherokee, Waterloo, Champaign, Ill., and Chicago.
In 1967 he took an agent position and worked in Charles City, Dubuque and Waterloo, having spent 15 years in Waterloo as a supervising agent and manager of transportation system on the Iowa division, retiring in 1980.
Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Kathleen Preston of Greenfield, Wis.; two sons, Ronald of Ashland, Ore., and Robert of Altoona; seven grandchildren; his mother of Denison; three brothers, Kenneth of Fort Dodge, Glenn of Webster City and Richard of Dunlap; and two sisters, Marion Gibson of Story City and Fern Jensen of Corvallis, Ore.
Services: 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, both in Webster City. Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, is in charge of arrangements.
WATERLOO -- Billy Joe Cheatom, 27, of 621 1/2 W. Ninth St., was found dead Dec. 18, 1998, at home, the victim of an apparent homicide, according to Waterloo police. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
He was born Feb. 21, 1971, in Louisville, Ark., son of Eddie and Mildred Stephens Cheatom. He had been employed by Beef Products Inc., for a brief period of time.
Survived by: his parents of Louisville; six brothers, David and Dennis, both of Louisville, Gary of Bradley, Ark., Willie of Dermont, Ark., and Bobbie of Toledo, Ohio; and five sisters, Gloria, Georgia Mae, Betty Ann Rose, Mary Sue and Jessie Marie Cheatom, all of Louisville.
Preceded in death by: three brothers.

WATERLOO -- Merwin R. Hamer, 84, of 1410 W. Dunkerton Road, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Country View of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Waterloo, son of Clarence J. and Elizabeth Reitz Hamer. He graduated from Orange High School.
Survivors include: two sisters, Doris Jean Miller of Stockton, Kan., and Ruth Riedesel of Tipton.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Robert P.

WATERLOO -- Viola Ethelyn Davis, 87, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born June 15, 1911, in Clarke County, daughter of Stephen Andrew and Birdie Gillett Selsor. She married A. Dean Galvin on Dec. 19, 1929. He preceded her in death. She married Gael Davis on March 15, 1963. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Davis and her husband, Gael, operated Davis Variety Store in Murray, and then she worked in Des Moines until her retirement.
Survived by: a daughter, Cherie James of Waterloo; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Selsor of Thayer and Edward Selsor of Osceola; and three sisters, Pauline Baker of Santa Ana, Calif., Arlene Kirkwood of Afton and Bessie Siefkas of Murray.
Preceded in death by: a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Burton and Elmer Selsor; and two sisters, Minnie Siefkas and Mabel Swaim.

WATERLOO -- Orene Orum, 69, of 1109 Baltimore St., formerly of Lime Springs, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Covenant Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 30, 1929, in Lime Springs, daughter of Charles and Geneva Anderson Garrison. She married Manley Orum in 1950 in Lime Springs. They were later divorced.
Mrs. Orum attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette. She had taught school, worked as a caregiver and senior companion for many years and was currently employed by Hawkeye Valley Agency on Aging in their Senior Companion Program.
Survived by: a daughter, Rebecca Rossin of Waterloo; a son, Christopher of Waterloo; three grandchildren; a sister, Helen Kelly of Murrieta, Calif.; and a brother, Charles Peter Garrison of Edwardsville, Ill.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, both in Lime Springs. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

CEDAR FALLS -- Greta Mae Caulk, 69, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the Western Home Martin Center of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Cedar Falls, daughter of John J. and Christa Christiansen Langskov. She married Kenneth Walter Caulk on Jan. 28, 1963, in Cedar Falls. He died in June 1981.
Survived by: a son, Dick Spilger of Atalissa; several grandchildren; her mother of Cedar Falls; a brother, John M. Langskov of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and two sisters, Esther Case of Waterloo and Donna Powers of Minnetonka, Minn.
