Lawson, 84, of Waukon, formerly of Postville, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at home of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Reva; four daughters, Doris Ann Lyons of Calumet City, Ill., Karen LaPage of Woodale, Ill., Janeen Olson of Harmony, Minn., and Janice Holdiman of Evansdale; three sons, Roger of Jacksonville, Fla., Clinton of Chino Valley, Ariz., and David of Rockland, Neb.; and 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon, with burial in Postville Cemetery, Postville; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.

MAYNARD -- J. Hollis Windenburg, 90, of Maynard, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness; survivors include two sons, Keith of Marion and Paul of Hackett, Ark.; two daughters, Beverly Seegers of Oelwein and Barbara Schultz of Janesville, Wis.; and 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, on June 18, 1995; a son, Lewis Wayne; and eight brothers and sisters; services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Maynard, with burial in Campton Cemetery, Lamont; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; Mr. Windenburg farmed in the Lamont, Westgate, Sumner and Maynard areas; he also was chairman of the Maynard Creamery Board for many years.

WATERLOO -- Irene M. Holdridge, 81, of Manor Care Health Service, died today, May 4, 1999, at the care center of natural causes; services pending with Locke Funeral Home, 233-6138.

CEDAR FALLS -- Irene A. Beier, 83, of Cedar Falls, died today, May 4, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes; services pending with Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, 266-7525.

WATERLOO -- Ruth Crisman, 99, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at the care center of natural causes; services pending with Locke Funeral Home, 233-6138.

WATERLOO -- Carter Jay Mauer Schultes, 6-week-old son of Amy Mauer and Ben Schultes of 1127 Tiffany Place, Apt. 5, died today, May 4, 1999, at home of renal failure; services 11 am. Friday at St. Stephen's Catholic Student Center, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls; visitation 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the student center, with an 8 p.m. vigil service; visitation also for an hour before services Friday; Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, 233-3393, is in charge of arrangements; memorials to St. Stephen's Catholic Student Center.

WAVERLY -- Lena Anderson, 78, of Waverly, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Waverly Municipal Hospital of natural causes; services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, 352-1187, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center; visitation 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home; memorials to the family.

WAVERLY -- Glenn L. "Bud" Spears, 81, of Waverly, died Sunday, Oct. 3, at home of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Larry of Evansdale and Jerry of Cedar Falls; five daughters, Debra Cook and Karen Kieler, both of Cedar Falls, Janet Gander of Soldiers Grove, Wis., Sharon Spears of Waterloo and Becky Murray of Tripoli; a stepson, Steve Dorland of Colorado; two stepdaughters, Leslie Dorland of Colorado and Jennifer Darling of Urbandale; 22 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Smith of Clarksville and Jim Smith of Mason City; and two sisters, Gloria Rhoades of Nevada and Linda Shipp of Waverly; he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma, on Jan. 11, 1978; a daughter, Sandra Kay Spears; a grandson; a sister, Pearl Miller; and a brother, Robert Smith; services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo; friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday; memorials may be directed to the family; Mr. Spears worked for John Deere, Waterloo, for more than 29 years, retiring in 1980.

ALDEN -- David Hartwig, 46, of Alden, died Saturday, Oct. 2, at home; cause of death is pending an autopsy; survivors include his wife, LeAnna; a son, Quentyn of Alden; his father, Pete Anderson of Lancaster, Calif.; his grandmother, Hazel Pepperling of Iowa Falls; five sisters, Renee Hartwig of Rosemount, Minn., Stacy Hartwig of Alden, Lisa Launderville of Adel and Leslie Geerdes and Margie Niekirk, both of Houston, Texas; and two brothers, Brian of Alden and Steve of Ackley; he was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Gleneva Roeske Anderson; private services will be held, there will be no visitation; Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of arrangements; Mr. Hartwig attended Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls, and graduated from Iowa State University, Ames; he was employed as a machine operator at Hammer's Plastic Recycling.

FREDERIKA -- Edmund G. Thurm, 83, of Frederika, died Sunday, Oct. 3, at Sunrise Guest Home, Fredericksburg, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Mabel; a daughter, Marlene Luloff of Waterloo; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Bernice Piel and Irene Walther, both of Denver, Iowa; services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Frederika, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church siding fund; Mr. Thurm worked for Rath Packing Co. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977.

HAMPTON -- Terry Lee Patterson, 25, of Hampton, formerly of Clarksville, died Saturday, Oct. 2, at home; survivors include his parents, Lee and Sally Patterson of Clarksville; two sisters, Debbie Ostrom of Atlanta, Ga., and Diane Bishop of Waverly; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Strein of Cedar Falls; and paternal grandmother, Louise Patterson of Hudson; he was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Francis Allan; and paternal grandfather, Ted Patterson; services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of Christ, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville; friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville; Mr. Patterson was a 1992 graduate of Clarksville High School; he had been employed by Winnebago Industry, Hampton, for five years, and was currently working at Seabee Corp., Hampton, where he had been the past couple of years.

CEDAR FALLS -- Frank Standish, 71, of San Jose, Calif., formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home Friday, Oct. 1, of natural causes; no services are planned; Darling Fischer Mortuary, Los Gatos, Calif., is in charge of cremation.

WATERLOO -- Blytha Howrey Mills, 88, of the Cedar Falls Western Home, formerly of 524 Ardmore St., died at the home Saturday, Oct. 2, of natural causes; services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery; visitation 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, 234-6274, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service; visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; memorials to the church.

WATERLOO -- John Neith, 36, of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 4, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a brain aneurysm; services pending with Garden View Chapel, 232-2222.

CEDAR FALLS -- Mae Sagert, 67, of Cedar Falls, died today, Oct. 5, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of natural causes; services pending with Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525.

WATERLOO -- Anna Kathern Gander, 72, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, Oct. 4, of natural causes; services pending with Parrot & Wood Family Funeral Care, 232-3235.

LA PORTE CITY -- Betty Thompson, 77, of La Porte City, died at home Sunday, Oct. 3, of cancer; memorial services 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Washburn, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, at a later date; visitation 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo, 233-3146; memorials to Cedar Valley Hospice.

NASHUA -- Alice Coates Aldrich, 85, of West St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Nashua, died in West St. Paul on Monday, Oct. 4, of natural causes; services 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Nashua; visitation for an hour before services Thursday at the church; Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua, (515) 435-4134, is in charge of arrangements.
