HORTON -- Lorraine C. Dietz, 67, of Horton, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at home of natural causes; survivors include her husband, Dean H.; two sons, Rodney and Stuart, both of Plainfield; a daughter, Julie Benning of Plainfield; eight grandchildren, a great-grandson, two stepgrandchildren and a stepgreat-granddaughter; her mother, Marie Chester of Plainfield; and three brothers, George, Lemar and Kent Chester, all of Plainfield; services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Plainfield United Methodist Church, with burial in Horton Cemetery; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with family present from 4 to 7 p.m.; the casket will be closed; memorials may be directed to the Lorraine C. Dietz Memorial Fund; Mrs. Dietz attended Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls, and received a bachelor's degree from Wartburg College, Waverly; she taught for 27 years in the Plainfield School District, teaching in both the elementary and junior high school; she was currently president of the Bremer County American Legion Auxiliary and was past president of the Plainfield American Legion Auxiliary Unit 472.

CHARLES CITY -- Ella Mae Arhart Merrill, 90, of Charles City, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Mercy Health Center of North Iowa, Mason City, of natural causes; survivors include a son, Robert Arhart of Garner; a daughter, the Rev. Judith Miller of Cedar Falls; a stepson, Delaine Merrill of Mason City; a stepdaughter, LaVonne Edmundson of Deerwood, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Ritter of Charles City and Don Ritter of Mason City; and a sister, Nadine Wilson of Winthrop; she was preceded in death by her husbands, Elston Arhart and Vern Merrill; a grandson; two sisters, June Short and Ruth Ritter; and two brothers, Dale and Jesse Ritter; services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City, with burial in Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock; friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles City, with family present from 4 to 8 p.m. visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; memorials may be directed to the family at 625 Golfview Drive, Garner, IA 50438; Mrs. Merrill taught for six years in a one-room school house; she also assisted her husbands in farming.

LAWLER -- Eugene "Gene" Junko, 67, of Lawler, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at home of cancer; survivors include his wife, Luella; five sons, Tom Junko and Paul and Don Rosenbaum, all of Lawler, Joe Rosenbaum of Waucoma and Gene Rosenbaum of Newton; seven daughters, Shirl Stone of New Hampton, Michele Fenneman of Cambridge, Diane Bruess of Protivin, Robin Lyman of Iowa Falls, Linda Rosenbaum of Richfield, Minn., Angie Junko of Mason City, and Norma Meirick of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 31 grandchildren; three brothers, Francis and Paul, both of Waterloo, and Dan of Des Moines; and four sisters, Joann Keister of Minneapolis, Susan Navine of Connecticut, Mary Heinz of Spencer and Helen Kuennen of Waterloo; he was preceded in death in by his first wife, Dorothy, in October 1970; services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Catholic Church, Little Turkey, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton; friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, Lawler, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a Scripture and Knights of Columbus rosary.

ALLISON -- Enno DeBoer, 89, of Allison, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Allison Health Care Center of natural causes; survivors include two daughters, Marie Schipper of Greene and Elaine Brown of Bradgate; two sons, Carl of Greene and Bill of Allison; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Fred of Mason City; he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, in 1996; a daughter, Ruth Henderson; a grandson; a great-grandson; an infant sister, Claire; and two brothers, Fred, in infancy, and George; services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Reformed Church, Allison, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; memorials may be directed to the family; Mr. DeBoer farmed in the rural Vilmar and Allison area for many years.

GREENE -- Hattie A. Landers, 86, of Greene, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Liebe Care Center, Greene, of natural causes; survivors include two daughters, Marlys Schrage and Joyce Shultz, both of Waverly; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris Dralle of Greene; and three brothers, Irven Schlief of Donnithan, Mo., Clifford Schlief of Lowry, Minn., and Alder Schlief of Glenwood, Minn.; she was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, on Dec. 18, 1998; a grandson; a brother, Wilford Schlief; and a sister, Irene; services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Greene; friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to the family; Mrs. Landers and her husband were farmers.

WATERLOO -- Michael G. Steinbronn, 44, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from injuries suffered in an automobile-deer accident Nov. 5; services 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger, with burial in the church cemetery; visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn, (319) 279-3551, and for an hour before services at the church; memorials to Community Lutheran Building Fund in Klinger, Life Christian Center in Cedar Falls, or charity of donor's choice.

WATERLOO -- Robert Paul "Tubs" Washut, 71, of Sheridan, Wyo., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Sheridan Manor of natural causes; memorial services were 10 a.m. today at Kane Funeral Home, Sheridan, (307) 673-5837, followed by private family inurnment; memorials to Elks Cemetery Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box. 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801; a son, Robert Washut Jr. of Waterloo is a local survivor.

CEDAR FALLS -- Ralph G. Thuesen, 81, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Dike, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of cancer; services 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, with burial in the church cemetery; visitation 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.; memorial fund has been established.

CEDAR FALLS -- Donald C. Griffen, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at home of cancer; visitation from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.; private family burial Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery; memorials to Cedar Valley Hospice.

CEDAR FALLS -- Zona Hixon, 96, of the Western Home, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at the home of natural causes; family directed memorial services 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, with inurnment in Center Point Cemetery; no visitation; Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525, is in charge of arrangements.

CEDAR FALLS -- James W. Dennis, 80, of 5018 S. Main Street Road, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes; services 10 a.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525, with burial in Ridgemont Cemetery, Des Plaines, Ill.; visitation until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.; memorials to Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church.

WATERLOO -- Eleanor R. Scharnhorst, 71, of 1547 Bertch Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes; services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories; visitation 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, 233-3393, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church; memorials to the church.

REINBECK -- Roger W. Fleming, 84, formerly of Reinbeck, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Chincoteague Island, Va., of natural causes; memorial services 3 p.m. Sunday at United Church of Christ, Reinbeck, with inurnment in Reinbeck Cemetery; visitation at service time at the church; memorials to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association; Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck, (319) 345-2622, is in charge of local arrangements.

DYSART -- Katherine A. Lorenzen, 94, of Dysart, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Sunnycrest Care Center, Dysart, after a lengthy illness; survivors include a daughter, Jean Hennings of Dysart; and five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1961; three brothers; and two sisters; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Dysart, with burial in Onieda Cemetery, rural Clutier; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart; a memorial fund has been established; Mrs. Lorenzen had worked as a nurses' aide.

Harding, 58, of Cresco, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Mercy Hospital, Mason City, of natural causes; survivors include two sons, Bob of Oelwein and Craig of El Paso, Texas; three daughters, Karen McGrane of Shellsburg, Barb Jagerson of Austin, Minn., and Becky Jahr of Cresco; four grandchildren; his mother, Leona Harding of Eloy, Ariz.; two brothers, Duane of Litchfield, Minn., and Darrell of Arizona City, Ariz.; and two sisters, Lila Berge of St. Cloud, Minn., and Linda Lawson of Arizona City; he was preceded in death by an infant son, David; and a brother; memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Conway Funeral Home, Cresco, with inurnment at a later date; friends may call for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

WEST UNION -- Cecil Davis, 86, of West Union, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, after a brief illness; he is survived by a sister, Ruth Glinnen of Fairbury, Ill.; he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie, in June 1987; and two brothers, Raymond and Lynn; services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, with burial in Grandview Cemetery, Fayette; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home; Mr. Davis worked for area farmers, then worked for eight years at the West Union Country Club.
