WATERLOO -- Carter Jay Mauer Schultes, 6-week-old son of Amy Marie Mauer and Benjamin Carl Schultes of 1127 Tiffany Place, Apt. 5, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at home of renal failure.
He was born March 23 in Iowa City.
Survived by: his parents; paternal grandparents, Dennis and Barb Schultes of Dedham; maternal grandparents, Jay and Vicki Mauer of Cedar Falls; paternal great-grandparents, Carl and Regina Schultes and Wayne and Alice Rupiper, all of Carroll; maternal great-grandparents, Orville and Mary Mauer and Bill and Jo Lane, all of Waterloo; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Mary Ocken of Carroll.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen's Catholic Student Center, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the student center, where there will be an 8 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the center. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

CEDAR FALLS -- Dr. Julia "Judy" Sparrow, 91, of Minneapolis, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Mount Olivet Careview Home, Minneapolis, of natural causes.
She was born March 4, 1908, in Royalton, Minn., daughter of Thomas Henry and Ethelwyn Mae Carpenter Sparrow. She was professor emeritus of education at the University of Northern Iowa.
Survived by: a sister, Edna Olson.
Preceded in death by: five brothers, Robert, Clement, James, Hubert and Merle Sparrow.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Careview Home chapel, with private burial in Langola Township Cemetery, Rice, Minn. Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, Minneapolis, is in charge of arrangements.

CEDAR FALLS -- Ernest "Ernie" L. Tollefson, 76, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 1, 1999, at St. Bernardine Medical Center, San Bernardino, Calif., of cancer.
He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Maxwell. He received a degree from Iowa State Teacher's College and was a senior high math teacher in Santa Barbara for 23 years. He also had worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was past commander of AMVETS Post 49 of Cedar Falls.
Survived by: his wife, Doris; four sons, Ron of Gig Harbor, Wash., Rich of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephen of Hemet, Calif., and the Rev. Terry Tollefson of Elgin, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Jackie Heil of Hemet, Phyllis Rockwell of Alta Loma, Calif., and Gwen Palakiko of La Haina, Maui, Hawaii; 20 grandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Louie of Placerville, Calif., and Les of Turlock, Calif.; and two sisters, Alberta Darling of Simi Valley, Calif., and Helen Curtiss of Los Angeles.
Services: were today at McWane Family Funeral Home, Hemet, with private inurnment in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

WATERLOO -- Irene M. Holdridge, 81, of ManorCare Health Services, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the care center of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Waterloo, daughter of William and Jennie Sietsema Davidson. She married Darrell C. Holdridge on June 26, 1936, in Nashua.
Survived by: three daughters, Beverly O'Bryon of Lebanon, N.H., and Judith Ricketts and Carole Burrell, both of Waterloo; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a grandson; and sister, Wilma Jacobsen.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with burial in the cemetery. Friends may call for an hour before services Thursday at the cemetery chapel. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
WATERLOO -- Ruth M. Crisman, 99, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at the center of natural causes.
She was born April 1, 1900, in Waterloo, daughter of Roger D. "Doe" and Nora J. Thomas Strayer. She married Everett M. Crisman on June 22, 1921, in Waterloo. He died May 9, 1962.
Survived by: two sons, Earl N. of Waterloo and James E. of Dallas, Texas; and nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a son, Roger; three grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a sister, Florence Strayer.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Helen Thorbrogger, 75, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Hilltop Care Center, Spirit Lake, of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Illinois, daughter of James and Emma Woodburn. She married Everett Thorbrogger on March 16, 1944. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thorbrogger was a Girl Scout professional, retiring as director in 1990.
Survived by: a daughter, Susan Thorbrogger of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Robert of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Woodburn of Moline, Ill., and Jane DeMaranville of Erie, Ill.; and two brothers, Wallace and Samuel Woodburn, both of Port Byron, Ill.
Services: were arranged by Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake. Burial was in Pleasant Point Cemetery, Rock Island County, Ill.

CEDAR FALLS -- Angeline B. Winters, 80, of the Western Home, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
She was born April 3, 1919, in St. Lucas, daughter of Matthias and Philomena Bodenstiner Blong. She married Andrew Paul Winters on Aug. 3, 1937, in St. Lucas. He died Sept. 13, 1993.
Survived by: seven sons, Robert of Waterloo, Richard and Andrew L. Jr., both of Cedar Falls, Charles "Pat" of Watkins, Colo., James of Jesup, William of Littleton and David of Glenwood, Mo.; three daughters, Dorothy Ehlert of Randalia, Gloria Kibbee of Waterloo and Cynthia Heitman of Jesup; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Brother Matthew Wendlin of Milwaukee, Wis.; and two sisters, Anne Schmitt of New Hampton and Loretta Blong of St. Lucas.
Preceded in death by: five brothers; four sisters; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

CEDAR FALLS -- Glendola McFarland, 99, of the Cedar Falls Western Home, formerly of Waterloo and Dearborn, Mich., died at the home Saturday, May 1, 1999, of natural causes.
She was born May 19, 1899, in Delaware, Iowa, daughter of Junius and Stella Benson Knowles. She married Alfred C. McFarland on Oct. 3, 1924, in Sterling, Colo. He died in 1945.
Mrs. McFarland graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in teaching and taught school in Denver, Colo. She then received a degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1931 and was a licensed mortician for 50 years. She and her husband founded McFarland Funeral Home in Dearborn, retiring in 1972.
Survived by: nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Maurice, Stanley and James Knowles; and two sisters, Janice Burch and June Penn.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with burial in the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
WATERLOO -- Anna K. Gander, 72, of 234 Spieker Road, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at home of natural causes.
She was born April 22, 1927, in Woodward, daughter of John W. and Berla Kirkman Renfrow. She married Charles Gander on Aug. 24, 1947, in St. Joseph, Mo. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Gander had been employed at Hinson Manufacturing Co. as a warehouse clerk for 16 years, retiring in 1978.
Survived by: a daughter, Berla Edsill of Des Moines; two sons, James and Chuck, both of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Rice of Rippey and Kathy Mullihan of Maxwell.
Preceded in death by: a son, Terry; five brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Heartland Vineyard Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Family Funeral Care.
