Grace L. Sievers

Grace Luverne Sievers was born April 21, 1908 at Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Leona (Simpson) Butcher. She received her education in Watertown, South Dakota, graduating in 1925. Grace then worked as a secretary until her marriage to Harry L. Sievers on October 20, 1929 at Waterloo, Iowa. They made their home in Waterloo until 1940 when Harry entered the U.S. Army. During this time they traveled and lived in several locations but always maintained a home in Waterloo. In 1962 they retired to Vienna, Virginia for a time before moving to Rancho Bernardo, California, where Harrys’ death came in 1977. Grace later moved back to Iowa to be near her family, making her residence at Friendship Village in Waterloo. Recently Grace had been ill and her death came on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 92 years. Grace was a member of DAR, PEO, TTT and the Federated Womens Club.
Norma M. Snow
Services: Visitation is on Mon., July 16, 2001 from 4-6pm. The funeral service is on Tues., July 17, 2001 at 10:30 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Burial is at Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, followed by a lunch at the Presbyterian fellowship hall.

Norma M. Snow was born May 28, 1907 on a farm north of Garwin, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Delfs) Sievers. She received her education in a rural school. On April 3, 1929 Norma was united in marriage to Harvey Snow at Waterloo, IA. They made their home farming in the Garwin and Traer areas. She continued to make her home in Traer following Harvey’s death on December 20, 1991. Norma was a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer for the past three years. She died following a short illness at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Friday, July 13, 2001, she was 94. In free moments Norma enjoyed crocheting and a sewing class she attended in Gladbrook. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Bonne Volante, and the afternoon circle as well as Buckingham Harmony Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Lee Sievers of Toledo and Harold Sievers of Traer, and a sister, Lillian Dahms of Garwin. She is survived by four sons: William & Janet of Winston Salem, NC, Robert & Elaine of Seattle, WA. James & Ramona of Traer, IA, and Dale & Doris of Kirkland, WA, two daughters: Margaret Ramsay of Roanoke, VA and Betty & Richard Coleman of Vientiane, Laos, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A sister, Edna Rix of Lakewood, CO and a brother Roy Sievers of Youngtown, AZ also survive her.
Orval E. Stephenson
Services: Visitation is on Monday, October 8, 2001 from 5-7:30pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. The funeral service is also at the funeral home in Traer on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at 1:30pm. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama, IA followed by a lunch at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama.

Orval E. Stephenson was born March 11, 1917 at Guernsey, Iowa the son of Benjamin "Benny" Stephenson and Helen Pidima Floerchinger. Orval attended school in the Guernsey area and then moved to the Tama area. Orval then began working for area farmers and on June 8, 1940 he was married to Margaret Wiese at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Tama. Orval and Margaret made their home in the Tama area where he worked for the Zeman family. In 1946 they moved to the Jimmy Podhajsky farm near Traer where he worked. In 1956 they moved to town where he worked as a carpenter for Traer Lumber Company and from 1957-1965 for Gene Crouse and from 1966-1985 for Traer Cabinet until his retirement. After his retirement Orval and Margaret continued to live in Traer and after Margaret’s death on July 6, 1998 he continued to live at their home at 400 4th Street. In the past week he has been a resident of the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer after suffering a stroke. Orval’s death came at the care center on Saturday evening, October 6, 2001 at the age of 84 years. In free times Orval enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, playing cards, gardening, making crafts and especially enjoyed making and setting up the annual Christmas display at the Podhajsky farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, one brother and three sisters. He is survived by one brother and his wife Frank and Marge Floechinger of West Branch, Iowa, one sister Rosetta Williams of Cedar Rapids, and nephews, and nieces, Frank and Denise Floechinger Jr. of North Liberty and their daughter Ashley, Tom and Carole Goss of West Branch and their son John and wife Jill Sorensen of Columbia, Missouri.
Luella K. Thede
Services: Visitation will be on Thurs., May 3, 2001 from 3-7pm at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. The funeral service is on Fri., May 4, 2001 at 11:00 am at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, IA. Immediately following the service a luncheon will be held at the church fellowship hall. Burial will then be at Crystal Cemetery in rural Toledo, IA.

Luella K. Thede was born February 27, 1909 in Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Dirk and Ella (Hagedorn) Siemens. On February 9, 1927 she was united in marriage to William H. Thede at the First Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They farmed for many years in the Traer and Gladbrook areas. Luella was also a seasonal worker at local seed corn company. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in 1994 prior to William’s death on July 22, 1994. Luella has been a resident of Sunrise Hill Nursing Home since July 18, 2000. More recently she entered Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where her death came on Monday, April 30, 2001 at the age of 92 years. She was a member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Hudson. Luella was preceded in death by her husband William, a daughter Joyce, her parents, seven brothers: Roy, Harry, Raymond, William, Arnold, Richard and Wallace, and a sister Elnora Schroeder. She is survived by two daughters: Beverly & Marvin Vojtech of Traer and Jeanette & Peter Van Metre of Waterloo, 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandsons, and 3 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Kahler of Traer, IA and a brother Eldon Siemens of Garwin, IA.
M. Louise Trimble
Services: 10:30 am on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer, with visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial will be at the Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.

M. Louise Trimble was born May 25, 1912 at Nokomis, IL, the daughter of Jesse R. and Stella (Oakley) Kithcart. As a young girl she moved with her parents to Belle Plaine, IA and attended school there. On April 30, 1933 she was united in marriage to Harold Trimble in Belle Plaine. They made their home in Dysart where Harold worked as a blacksmith and carpenter before moving to Traer in 1942. Louise remained at their home following Harold’s death on June 12, 1988. In February of 1998 she moved to the Western Home in Cedar Falls, IA. On Saturday of this past week she entered Sartori Memorial Hospital where her death came on Monday, January 15, 2001 at the age of 88 years. Louise enjoyed baking and animals, especially her dogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, a son Wayne, two brothers and three great grandchildren. Mary is survived by two sons, Walter “Bud” Trimble of Waverly, IA and James “Jim” Trimble of Carlisle, AR, a daughter, Lois (Mrs. Jack) Martin of Denton, TX, 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Evonne M. Untiedt
Services: Visitation is on Thursday, May 24, 2001 from 5-7pm at Overton Funeral Home in Traer, IA. The funeral service is on Friday, May 25, 2001 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Traer. A luncheon will follow the service at the church fellowship hall. Burial will then be at 1:00pm at Oakhill Cemetery in Parkersburg, IA.

Evonne Marlys Untiedt was born December 30, 1937 at Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Grace (Robbins) Untiedt. After the death of her mother she was raised by her second mother Ida Christiansen Untiedt. She received her education at Traer and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1955. Evonne then continued her education at National College in Kansas City where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later earned her Masters degree at the University of Tennessee in social work. Evonne made her home in Nashville where she was a Supervisor for Metro Social Services for 27 years, retiring in 1996. For the past years she made her home at Carestone Assisted Living and more recently at Bordeaux Nursing Hospital where her death came on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the age of 63 years. Evonne had been ordained Deaconess of the United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and her second mother Ida. She is survived by two brothers: Glenn Untiedt and wife Edith of Woodbridge, VA and Leslie Untiedt and wife Michelle of Davenport, IA, a sister: Gladyce Billerbeck and husband Gaylord of Reinbeck, IA, 5 nieces and 3 nephews. She is also survived by her special friends: Rev. Wesley & Shirley Gullatte and Kelly & family of Nashville, TN and the former Mrs. Jean Luffman and family.

Donald J. “Bear” Vokoun was born September 7, 1927 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Joseph J. and Anna (Pecenka) Vokoun. Don received his education at Traer graduating in the Class of 1945. He then entered the U.S. Army serving during the close of WWII. Upon his discharge he returned to Traer and later married Carolyn Bradley on March 30, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They have made their home all their married life in Traer. Don operated the DX Station and later Lone Pine Phillips 66 Station & Café. In October of 1956 Don & Carolyn purchased the Dodge dealership and garage and in 1973 they moved to the present location on Highway 8. Don was an active member of the community serving on the Traer City Council, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer for the Traer Fire Department and a member of the Traer American Legion. Don was also the voice of the North Tama Redhawks announcing football games for many years. He was also presently serving on the Daimler-Chrysler Advertising Board. In free moments he enjoyed spending time with his family and boating at their home at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Recently Don had been a patient at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where his death came on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at the age of 73 years. Don is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Edward and two sisters, Annie & Mildred. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Traer, a son James and his wife Kris Vokoun of Traer, a daughter, Dalona and her husband Corky Feuerbach of Ackley, IA, a sister, Pauline Manfull of Dysart and four grandchildren, A.J. & Jamie Feuerbach, Amy & Russ Wedemeier, Dustin Feuerbach and Jesse Vokoun.
Thelma E. White
Services: There will be no visitation. A private family graveside service is to be held on Friday, June 22, 2001 at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer, IA.

Thelma Elizabeth White was born on August 4, 1919 at Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Jessie (Bates) Green. She received her education in rural schools in Tama County, Iowa. On June 18, 1943 Thelma was united in marriage to Glen White at Kahoka, MO. They made their home in Traer where she worked with Glen in their construction business. Thelma resided in Traer into her retirement and in this past year she moved to live at Rosewood Estates in Waterloo, IA. For the past three weeks she had been a patient at Covenant Medical Center where her death came on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at the age of 81 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Elmer and Roy Green and a sister Geneva Siemens. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Green of Sacramento, CA.
Raymond D. White
Services: No services are being planned at this time. Burial will be at a later date.

Raymond Douglas White was born March 6, 1929 at Eau Claire, WI, the son of George and Anna (Lewis) White. He attended school near Eau Claire and later continued his education at Thief River Falls, WI for two years. Raymond then went into the Merchant Marines and later served his country during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as an independent businessman servicing numerical computer machine tools. On December 3, 1976 he was united in marriage to Susan Shook at Cresco, IA. They made their home for a time at Minneapolis, MN before moving to Waterloo, IA and in 1993 moved to Buckingham, IA. More recently Raymond’s health had been failing and was a patient at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where his death came on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at the age of 71 years. He is preceded in death by his father and a sister Pearle. Raymond is survived by his wife Susan of Buckingham, IA, a son Shane White of Buckingham, IA, a daughter Heather Roth of Belle Plaine, IA, his mother Anna White of Albany, MN, a brother Clovis White of Oklahoma and a granddaughter Rachel.
Helen J. Young
Services: Visitation is on Wed. June 13, 2001 from 5-7pm. The funeral service is on Thurs., June 14, 2001 at 10:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Burial will be at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer followed by a lunch at the Presbyterian Church basement.

Helen Joan Young was born April 6, 1932 at Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Louise (Graff) Wiese. She attended school in Tama and graduated from Tama High School in the Class of 1949. Helen was then united in marriage to Richard D. Young on December 10, 1949 at Tama. They made their home in Traer where they raised six children and for a time Helen worked as a waitress. In free moments Helen enjoyed traveling with Dick and going on fishing trips. In recent months Helen had been in failing health and was residing at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where her death came on Monday, June 11, 2001 at the age of 69 years. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick in March of 2001, a son Daniel and a sister Norma Papesh. She is survived by four sons: Tom Young of Heyworth, IL, Steve Young of Cedar Rapids, IA, Randy Young of Eldora, IA and Kevin Young of Marshalltown, IA, a daughter, Karen Abell of Tahoka, TX, 4 sisters: Hazel Chaloupek of Tama, IA, Elsie Shearer of Montezuma, IA, Wilma Wilson of Lincoln, NE, and Betty Young of Hudson, IA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Richard D. Young
Services: Funeral services are Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 10:30 am, held at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Visitation is Tuesday, March 13, 2001 beginning at 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

Richard Dean Young was born January 31, 1928 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Wanda (Wilhelmi) and DeVere Young. He attended school in Traer, graduating with the Class of 1946. Richard then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On December 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to Helen Joan Wiese at Tama, IA. They made their home in Traer and Richard was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 142 and the VFW Post No. 6607. Richard also served on the Traer Fire Department until retiring in 1994. He continued working with the Iowa Fireman’s Association and served as President of the CITA Kirkwood Fire School. Presently he had been serving as District Coordinator and custodian for the Iowa Fireman’s Association. Recently Richard had been in the care of Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where his death came on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the age of 73 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel and a brother Eugene. He is survived by his wife Helen of Traer, four sons: Thomas Young of Heyworth, IL, Steven Young of Cedar Rapids, IA, Randall Young of Eldora, IA & Kevin Young of Marshalltown, IA, a daughter, Karen Abell of Tahoka, TX, two brothers: Bill Young of Waterloo, IA & Gordon Young of Brandon, IA, a sister Betty Jane Jackson of Ames, IA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Linda L. Yuska
Services: Visitation is on Tues. Sept. 11, 2001 from 2-8pm at the funeral home in Traer. Services will be held at 10;30 AM Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the Heartland Community Church in La Porte City with Rev's Richard J. Ernst and Robert McMurdock officiating. Burial will follow at the Buckingham Cemetery at Traer. Following the committal services family and friends are invited to the Traer Memorial Building for a time of food and fellowship with the family.

Linda Lou Carter Yuska was born at Waterloo, Iowa on Feb. 27,1949, she was the daughter of Wayne and Evelyn (Russell) Carter. Linda received her elementary education in Waterloo and Cedar Falls and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1967. Linda then continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Linda then taught school at the South Tama School system, before her marriage to Wilfred Yuska on December 6, 1975 at Waterloo Iowa. Linda and Wilfred made their home farming in Buckingham and Linda kept active raising her family and teaching at the Pied Piper Preschool for 14 years. More recently Linda has been a teacher at North Tama Elementary School. In free moments Linda was active in the Church of Promise, gardening, reading, crafts and more recently basket making. For some time now Linda has been fighting a battle with cancer and her death came at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Friday, September 7, 2001, at the age of 52 years. Linda was preceded in death by her mother and is survived by her father Wayne Carter of Cedar Falls, her husband Wilfred of Buckingham, one son Paul Carter Yuska of Waterloo, two daughters; Angela Marie Yuska of Rio Hondo, TX and Ashley Yuska of Buckingham, and one sister; Candy Ann Carter Zelle of Naperville, IL.
