WATERLOO -- Robert A. Stewart, 80, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Albuquerque, N.M., of natural causes.
He was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Arthur H. and Barbara Rose Tiggeman Stewart. He served for 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as lieutenant colonel. He was a German prisoner of war during World War II.
Survived by: his wife, Jane; two sons, David of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Steven of Newport, R.I.; a daughter, Barbara Lynn Collier of Troy, Ohio; six grandchildren; and four sisters, LaRainne Jones of Fowlerville, Mich., Dorothy Timmerman of Kingman, Ariz., Charlotte Ohrt of Denver, Colo., and Darlene Allen Page of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: a son, Michael; and a sister, Barbara Anne Waddell.
Burial: will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, N.M. His body was cremated.

HUDSON -- Arlus Annette Steimel, 69, of 11443 Ansborough Ave., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of cancer.
She was born March 23, 1931, in Waterloo, daughter of Dean Ellsworth and Regilda Marie Hayes Moyer. She married Lewis Alfred Steimel on June 15, 1949, in Waterloo. He died Feb. 22, 1989.
Mrs. Steimel owned and operated several gifts shops in the metro area, most recently The Generation Store.
Survived by: three sons, Joseph D. and James C., both of Eagle Center, and Jon L. of Reinbeck; a daughter, Janet O'Neil of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a great-grandson; two brothers, James and Douglas Moyer; and a sister, Sonya Sammons.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. senior citizens rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Evelyn Gladys Berry, 91, of Oconto Falls, Wis., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, Wis., of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Arrowsmith, Ill., daughter of Marshall P. and Sarah Ethel Maurice Reynolds. She married John Everett Berry on June 6, 1947, in Nashua. He died June 7, 1989.
Mrs. Berry was employed as a nurses' aide at Community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls, retiring in the early 1970s.
Survived by: two sons, Roger of Spring, Texas, and Ralph of Houston; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: four brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. today at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, Wis., is in charge of arrangements.
WATERLOO -- James Fowler Howrey, 70, of Kiawah Island, S.C., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Waterloo, son of Julia Fowler and Benjamin G. Howrey. He married Ellen Kaupke Nov. 14, 1959, and they were later divorced.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Howrey worked for the Waterloo Paper Co. before moving to Cedar Rapids, where he was employed at Cedar Rapids Galvanizing Co. and later became owner. He also farmed and operated Howrey Transportation, and in 1985 moved to Upperville, Va., where he served as a business manager for 11 years, retiring in 1996.
Survived by: two daughters, Elizabeth Lederer of Cedar Rapids and Melissa Holman of Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren; and his former wife, Ellen Howrey of Cedar Rapids.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with private burial in Waterloo. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dorothy K. Livingston, 91, of the Western Home in Cedar Falls, died on December 4th, 2000 of pneumonia. She was born July 7, 1909, in McPherson, Kansas, to Charles W. Kline and Florence E. Upshaw Kline. Dorothy graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1926 at the age of sixteen and from the University of Iowa in 1930 with a degree in English. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. She taught one year in Belle Plaine and then moved to Fairfield, Iowa, to continue teaching until her marriage to Joseph Norvell. They had one daughter, Nancy. They later divorced and Dorothy stayed in Fairfield where she owned and operated the Book Nook, a book store and gift shop.
On January 25, 1947, Dorothy married Aden B. "Bite" Livingston. They returned to Bite's hometown of Cedar Falls, Iowa, where their daughter, Catherine was born. In 1950, they moved to Hampton, Iowa, where Bite ran the local airport and the Western Auto Store. Their daughter Susan was born there in 1951. They returned to Cedar Falls and Bite owned and operated Livingston Skelgas Service in Waterloo. In addition to raising her children, Dorothy was an active volunteer in the Sartori Hospital Gift Shop, a member of DAR, and a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter's Brownie Troop. She was an accomplished pianist and a voracious reader and passed her love of music and literature to her three daughters.
She is survived by her daughters: Nancy Norvell Ball, Evanston, Illinois; Catherine Ann Livingston, Cedar Falls; and Susan Livingston Barre, El Dorado Hills, California. Grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Ball, Carbondale, Colorado, Christopher Ball, Denver, Colorado, Benjamin Ball, Los Angeles, California, Melissa Susan Barre and Travis Livingston Barre, El Dorado Hills, California. Great-grandchildren, Abigail Marie Reilly and Hayden Reilly, Carbondale, Colorado.
There will be a memorial service at the Western Home Chapel on Thursday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Dorothy Kline Livingston's life is being planned for July of 2001.

WATERLOO -- Eugene F. Averill, 79, of 3335 Monticello Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.
He was born April 8, 1921, in Black Hawk County, son of Jess and Minnie Turner Averill. He married Helen Martin on May 28, 1944, in Waterloo.
Mr. Averill was chief engineer for Titus Manufacturing from 1948 to 1973, then worked for Hawkeye Corrugated Box, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy as a pilot during World War II.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Martin of Waterloo; a daughter, Jan Rosauer of Buckingham; and two grandchildren.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

EVANSDALE -- Erma DeYoung, 78, of Canoga Park, Calif., formerly of Evansdale, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Northridge Hospital, Reseda, Calif., of emphysema.
She was born April 14, 1922, in Waterloo, daughter of Jack C. and Dorothy Ellen Conley Wood. She married Harold A. DeYoung on Sept. 11, 1946. He died Sept. 2, 1957.
Survived by: a son, Mikel Gene of Canoga Park; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack C. Wood of Waterloo; and a sister, Elizabeth Porter of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: two daughters, Judy Mahncke and Jeri Goldberg.
Services: There will be no services; her body was cremated.

CEDAR FALLS -- Kenneth E. Loy, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.
He was born July 4, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Jesse and Nora Murphy Loy. He married Jennaven Peters on April 30, 1949, in Waterloo.
Mr. Loy was employed at the Illinois Central Railroad, Waterloo, for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survived by: his wife; four daughters, Colleen Fanton of Waterloo, Nancy Klinger of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia Huff and Diane McFarlane, both of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd of Alexandria, Va.; and four sisters, Vi Heinen and Barbara Fowler, both of Waterloo, Jessie Richter of Cedar Falls and Evelyn Papash of Galena, Ill.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Sally Rindels; three sisters; and four brothers.
Services: were 10 a.m. today at Orchard Hill Reformed Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in the Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Richardson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
WAVERLY -- Lena Anderson, 78, of Waverly, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Waverly Municipal Hospital of natural causes; survivors include a son, Donald Storjohann of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Delores Peters of rural Plainfield and Donnalee Dravis and Dianne Lenius, both of Waverly; five grandchildren and four great-granddaughters; a brother, Harvey Beenken of Grundy Center; and four sisters, Kathrina Ridder of New Hartford, Pearl Hartgrave of Cedar Rapids, Clara Hinders of Marshalltown and Lavina Martin of Anamosa; she was preceded in death by her husbands, Hans Storjohann in 1958 and Archie Anderson in 1993; four brothers, Lutjen, Edward, Alfred and Wilbur Beenken; and four sisters, Mariam Bohlen, Leta Gerhoff, Mildred Katzer and Anna Mae Clemmons; services are 2 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center; memorials may be directed to the family; Mrs. Anderson and her first husband farmed near Waverly until 1958, then she became a licensed practical nurse, retiring in 1984.
VINTON -- Paul Walker, 86, of Vinton, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at home after a lengthy illness; survivors include his wife, Rhoda; three sons, Larry, Okee and Lonny, all of Vinton; a daughter, Bonnie Fields of Vinton; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Earl of State Center; and two sisters, Ruby Richison and Dorothy Clement, both of Rhodes; services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Prairie Creek Church, rural Vinton, with burial at a later date; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Overton Family Funeral Home, Vinton; a memorial fund will be established.
