REINBECK -- Helen Dreessen, 84, of Reinbeck, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Parkview Manor, Reinbeck, of natural causes; survivors include her husband, John; a son, Ronald of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; and two grandchildren; she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Chapman; services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Reinbeck, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery; friends may call today at Hand's Funeral Home, Reinbeck, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.; memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ Library; Mrs. Dreessen attended Dickinson Secretarial School, Waterloo, and had worked in several offices before taking employment in the time keeping department at John Deere, Waterloo; she and her husband also farmed east of Reinbeck, retiring in 1970; she was president of the Ladies Aide.
IOWA FALLS -- Russell Willis Engelby, 75, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Gowrie and Algona, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls, of natural causes; survivors include two stepdaughters, Ramona L. Searl of Mound, Minn., and Becky Embree of Anamosa; four stepgrandchildren; a brother, Vincent of Albert Lea, Minn.; and two sisters, June Paulsen of Granton, Wis., and Myrtle Johnson of Albert Lee; he was preceded in death by his wife, I. DECORAH -- Vivian H. Bergan, 81, of Decorah, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah, after a brief illness; survivors include her husband, Kenneth N.; a son, Paul of Minneapolis; four grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a daughter, Ruth Anderson of St. Louis Park, Minn.; she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Josendahl; memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Decorah Lutheran Church, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery, rural Ridgeway; there will be no visitation, her body was cremated; Fjelstul Funeral Home, Decorah, is in charge of arrangements.
SHELL ROCK -- Wilma J. Neuhaus,73, of Shell Rock, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Waverly Municipal Hospital, Waverly, from complications of a stroke; survivors include her husband, Henry; three sons, Larry and Douglas, both of Shell Rock, and Robert of Waverly; and four grandchildren; she was preceded in death by a son, Stanley J.; and two brothers, Glenn Arns, and her twin, Wendell Arns; services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Shell Rock; friends may call until 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to the family or American Cancer Society; Mrs. Neuhaus graduated from nursing school at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago, in 1947, then worked at the Presbyterian Hospital in Waterloo for two years; later she and her husband farmed near Shell Rock; she was the church organist at Peace Lutheran Church, Shell Rock, for 35 years.
GLADBROOK -- Edna M. Fink, 82, of Gladbrook, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home, Gladbrook, after a lengthy illness; survivors include her husband, Ervol; a son, Roland E. of Lincoln; two daughters, Rose Ella Rittgers of Lincoln and Sharal L. VINING -- Adele C. Riha, 92, of Vining, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications of a stroke; survivors include three sons, Paul and Richard, both of Vining, and Jack of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Doris Lawrence of Belle Plaine and Vicki Thome of Gilbertville; and 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1976; a sister, Nora Posekany-Ryan; two brothers, Edwin and Leonard Krueger; and four grandsons; services were Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vining, with burial in the church cemetery; Hand Funeral Home, Tama, was in charge of arrangements; a memorial fund has been established; Mrs. Riha was a bookkeeper in the family's Ford dealership, Riha Auto.

OELWEIN -- Leroy G. Brockmeyer, 73, of Oelwein, died at home Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, after a lengthy illness; survivors include his wife, Phyllis; three sons, Robert L. APLINGTON -- Chris Fisher, 88, of Aplington, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, of an apparent heart attack; survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, David of Hastings, Neb., and Jon of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Christie Sue Nevenhoven of Long Grove and Kathleen Eleanor Platter of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Martin of Cedar Rapids, Peg "Margaret" Hager of La Porte City and Edith Conway of Rochester, Minn.; and a brother, William of Tempanie, Mich.; he was preceded in death by a sister, Leone Moody; and two brothers, George and Paul; services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington; full graveside military rites will be conducted by Aplington AMVETS; friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Schwartz Funeral Home, Aplington, Mr. Fisher owned Fisher Lime Co. from 1951 until 1980; he served in the U.S. Navy and the Seabees during World War II.
