Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Florence J. Garrey
Graveside services will be held 11am Friday at Ames Municipal Cemetery for Florence J. Garrey who died June 15, 2004.
A homemaker, Florence enjoyed Bingo and arts and crafts.
She will be missed by her son, Jack and his wife Marlene Garrey; son, Rich Garrey; son, Craig Garrey and wife Theresa; daughter, Charlotte Garrey; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, William; a daughter, Norma; and a son, Michael.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Muscular Dystrophy.

Elisabeth Pierre
Elisabeth Pierre, 98, passed away on April 30, 2004. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Des Moines. Elisabeth was born in Paris, France. She moved to the United States with her mother in 1968 to be with her daughter and her family. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Leary of Clive; grandsons, David Leary and wife Penne of Des Moines and Michael of California; and nieces, Elizabeth Baecker and Jeanne-Marie Byington, both of New York.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Central Iowa.

Floyd Tiffany
Funeral services for Floyd Lynn Tiffany will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 10 at Union Park United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel.
Floyd served his country during the Korean War and enjoyed playing bridge and computer games. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Marvin) Morris and Cherie Tiffany; a son, Brian Tiffany; four grandchildren; sisters, Lorna (Leon) Wallace and Ivetta (Kenneth) Waddill; brother, Irving (Joan) Tiffany; and brother- in-law, Robert Moffit. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Moffit and his parents, Harold and Dorothy Tiffany.

Gordon Clemens
Gordon Clemens, 77, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd in Clive. A Memorial Service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 400 N.E. 56th St. in Pleasant Hill, IA.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Des Moines; daughter, Bernadette (Lloyd) Risius of Elkhart, IN; son, Dennis (Tressa) Clemens of Des Moines; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Madonna Wall of Ankeny; and brothers, Burdette (Jim) of Chariton and Donald of Seattle, WA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA.

Gary S. Welch
Gary S. Welch, 62, died June 14, 2004 at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Gary retired from Iron Workers Local #67. He is survived by his daughters, Kim (John) Ferrari of Henderson, NV, and Jane (Clark) Eilers of Ankeny; six grandsons; one great-grandson; one brother; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gerald "Jerry" Hyatt
Mr. Hyatt died on April 15, 2004 of brain cancer at Kavanagh House on Grand. He will be missed by his daughter, Julie Ortega of Phoenix, AZ; grandsons, Ricardo and Anthony; and his brother, Don and wife JoAnn of West Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his son, Buddy and his mother, Evelyn Hyatt. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Gary Schermerhorn
Gary Edger Schermerhorn, 69, died February 23, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, February 28 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Visitation will take place 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at Tonini Chapel.
Gary was born in Newton, Iowa. He joined the US Navy following high school. He retired from The Des Moines Register, where he was awarded employee of the month. He loved his three dogs, King, Monroe, and Princess.
Gary will be missed by his sister, Kay (Mike) Marasco; brother, Craig (Lucille) of Burbank, CA; stepfather, Bob Olsen of Pheonix, AZ; sister-in-law, Pat Schermerhorn of Almont, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or Kavanagh House of 56th St.

Glen Chiles
Glen M. Chiles, 84, died on Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5 at Brooks Funeral Care- Tonini Chapel in Des Moines. Interment will follow at Linn Grove Cemetery in Norwalk.
Glen was born in Prole, Iowa and had lived in Des Moines since 1969. He was the Head of Maintenance at Valley West Mall. Glen enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his close friend, Sadie Sioux, his dog.
Glen will be missed by his wife of 20 years, Janet K. Chiles; daughters, Janice Louise (Joe) Johnson of Bullshoal, AK, Sherry K. Hartman of Des Moines and Glenda R. Chiles of Indianola; sons, Robert M. Chiles of Des Moines, Jimmy L. (Marianna) Chiles of Norwalk, Jerry E. (LuAnn) Chiles of Des Moines and Richard W. (Barb) Chiles of Custer, SD; stepson, Darin Taylor of Des Moines; and half-sister, Verna May Fickes of Leon. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia L. Chiles and daughter, Sandra S. Chiles.
Visitation for Glen will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions will be used according to the wishes of the family.

Harry Griffiths
Harry Griffiths, 74, died Saturday, July 24, 2004. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel.
Harry was born February 14, 1930 in Massillon, OH. He was a Nuclear Power Plant engineer for Bechtel Engineer and a Radon Specialist for The Building Inspectors as well as office manager. He enjoyed socializing, playing golf and clowns.
Harry will be missed by his son, Harry Griffiths, Jr. (Brenda) and their children, Elisa (Glenn) and Patrick Griffiths; daughter, Pamela Copeland (Frank) and their children, Jeannie and Justin; two great-grandchildren, Anita and Brittney; sister-in-law, Terri; and two longtime best friends, Chuck Wells and Lynn Green. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Mabel; brother, Jack Griffiths; and his daughter, Jeannie.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa.

George W. Booth
George W. Booth, 84, died February 23, 2004. Services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, February 26 at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, as well as one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
George served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII as a B-24 Liberator pilot. He was a 45 year employee of Bankers Life Company. George loved pets, fishing, cooking for his family, and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather.
George will be missed by his son, Stephen (Cheryl) Booth of Waukee; daughter, Stephanie (Larry) King of Norwalk; daughter, Sherry (Terry) Garmon of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Sandra Booth of Denver, CO; son, Randall Booth of Urbandale; daughter, Shirlee Buschow of Windsor Heights; stepsons; Martin and Galen Kissick of Grand Junction; 16 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Edna Rose, and his wife of 21 years, Marilyn, and Michael Kissick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to InTrust Taylor House.

Haley Eoriatti
Haley Marie Eoriatti, 3, died January 19, 2004, at home of Tay-Sachs. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 23, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, with Father Ed Girres presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Dallas Center.
Haley was born July 9, 2000, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She will be missed by her parents, Alan and Kasey Eoriatti; brother, Austin; grandparents, Joseph and Carol Eoriatti of West Bend and Doris Swanson of Colfax; and many aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 22, at the church with a 7 p.m. Vigil service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic School or Make a Wish Foundation.

Hilaria F. Harris
Hilaria F. Harris, 78, died January 8, 2004, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Hilaria was born in Strandquist, Minnesota and had lived in Des Moines for the past 50 years. She worked for the State of Iowa as a clerk for job Service of Iowa and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Hilaria was a volunteer at Bishop Drumm and enjoyed bridge, quilting, sewing and painting.
She is survived by one son, Kevin (Cindy) of Urbandale; one daughter, Carol Williams of Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Gajeski of Argyle, MN, and Anne Long of Del Ray Beach, FL; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Saline (Bud) Harris.
Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel, where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or her church.

HELEN JUNE KASPAREK
Helen June Kasparek, 88, died June 3, 2004 at Kavanagh House on Grand. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Steamboat Rock Cemetery in Steamboat Rock, IA.
Helen was born in Steamboat Rock and was employed as a government inspector. She attended First Federated Church and enjoyed working in her garden.
Helen is survived by her son, Craig Kasparek of Fort Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Debra Kasparek of Des Moines; brother, Harold Johnson of Wickenburg, AZ; sisters, Margaret Eckel of Huxley and JoAnn Bittner of Liscomb; and sister-in-law, Marie Colony of Coralville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Julia Johnson and her husband, Alvin Kasparek.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used according to the wishes of the family.

Herbert Lange
Herbert Milton Lange was born on November 7, 1929 in Murdo, South Dakota. His parents, Frank Bernhardt Lange and Helen Louise Rich Lange, were dairy farmers. Herb spent many a morning milking cows and delivering milk to families in and around Murdo. He was valedictorian of his high school graduating class (of 5). Herb went on to attend Huron College in South Dakota, graduating with a BS degree in Mathematics. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Herb served as a fighter pilot in the Korean War and was bestowed the honor of “Top Gun” in his class, enabling him to train other young pilots anywhere in the US. He chose instead to further his education at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, obtaining his Masters Degree in School Psychology.
Herb met Jeanne Unrue on a blind date in 1952, while in the service. In January of 1953, Herb sent Jeanne a telegram from Hawaii saying, “I have a 30 day leave. Pick a date!”. They were married on February 13, 1953, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
Herb and Jeanne have three children: Lisa, Kathy, and Kurt, and six grandchildren: Jennifer, Nicholas, Eleanor, William, Brittany, and Blake. Herb was fortunate to have his sister, Carol Murphy, live close by in Carlisle. Herb went on to make a career as a school psychologist and consultant for special education programs in Iowa and parts of the Midwest. He retired in 1993, then devoted his time to his family. He was also an avid sports fan, an airplane historian, and a dedicated NY Times crossword puzzle buff. He will be deeply missed.

Helen Padavic-Leonard
Helen Padavic-Leonard, 85, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Kavanagh House on Grand. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 18 at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel in Clive, with burial at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.
Helen was born February 6, 1919 in Morrison, Illinois, and lived most of her life in Perry, Iowa. She was a homemaker and member of Women of the Elks, Women of the Moose and the Christian Church in Perry. Helen liked to crochet, cook, do crossword puzzles and tend to her yard and garden.
Helen will be missed by her daughter, Janice Padavic and Joyce Archer; sister, Pearl Hoffman and family; grandchildren, Larry Ward, Kristi Ward, Bill Davis, and Rochelle Mallon; step children, Larry Leonard and family, Nancy Erdman and family, and Linda Anderson and family; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, John Padavic and Henry Leonard; two sisters; and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kavanagh House on Grand.
