Kristi Karn
Kristi Karn, 48, died January 26, 2004. A memorial gathering will be held 4-8 p.m., Thursday, January 29, at the funeral home.
Kristi was born April 4, 1955, in Des Moines to Barbara and Jim Anderson. She graduated from Johnston High School in 1973 and served in the US Airforce, where she was stationed down south and met her first husband, Dennis, and had two children, Erin and Meghan. She went to nursing school at DMACC, where she received her RN in 1983. She then went to Grandview College, where she graduated with honors in the Bachelor of Arts program. She worked as a dedicated and skilled nurse for over 20 years at many Des Moines area facilities. Kris married Bruce Karn on September 21, 1997, with whom she lived out her remaining days. She was an avid animal lover, which included her many cats and dogs she’d adopted over the years. She spent many hours reading a wide variety of books and enjoyed watching a unique compilation of movies. Kris spent much of her life perfecting her recipes and cooking talents and many hours passing these secrets on to her children and family. She had a very colorful, rich, and full life in her short time with us.
Kristi will be missed by her husband, Bruce; her daughters, Erin (Jon) Peres and Meghan Whelan; grandson, Zaavan Peres; her sister, Kelli Jury; her brother, Bob McKenzie; two nieces, Leah McMillan and Lily McKenzie; and we can’t forget her beloved cats, Bernard, Thurman, and Sheldon.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa or Planned Parenthood.

Lloyd J. Ades
Lloyd J. Ades, 76, passed away to meet the Lord Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Taylor House Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 3 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Lloyd was born September 30, 1927 in Boone, Iowa, along with twin sister Lois, to Ethan and Rosina Ades. He retired as a postal clerk from the U.S. Postal Service. Lloyd enjoyed all sports, especially watching the Cubs and Bears games, and was a fixture at Sec Taylor Stadium for many years. He was a people person who loved life, family, and friends, leaving a smile and handshake for everyone he met.
Lloyd will be missed by his wife, Sally; sons, John (Janet), Martin (Vicki), and Alan; grandchildren, Jeff and Jessica; and sisters, Pearl, Helen, Della, Geraldine, and Lois.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 2 at Brooks Funeral Care – Tonini Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or Taylor House Hospice.
Katherine “Bader” Lindroth
Katherine “Bader” Lindroth died January 24, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical center. Private graveside services will be held at Jordan Cemetery.
Katherine was born November 14, 1914, in Hamburg, Germany. She moved to Moline, IL and then to Des Moines in 1940. She worked for Joseph’s Jewelers and Iowa Children and Family Services. Upon retirement, she worked as a foster grandparent for Des Moines Public Schools.
Katherine will be missed by her sons, Steve (Terry) Lindroth of Truckee, CA and Sam (Violet) Lindroth of Des Moines; daughters, Kaylyn (John) Walker of West Des Moines, Rachel (Carl) Henry of Des Moines, and Nancy (Jay) Yarnell of Fernandina Beach, FL; sister, Rosalie Kaeder of Lexington, KY; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Lindroth and sister, Mary Lou Hodgdon.
A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the funeral home.
Katherine M. Wise
May 24, 1907 - Feb. 14, 2004
Memorial services for Katherine Wise will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Christ United Methodist Church at 5723 Franklin Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends immediately following services at the church.
James C. Walker
James C. Walker, Sr., 78, died on Sat. July 17, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. July 21, 2004 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Rd. at 10:00 am with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
Jim was born and raised in Des Moines. He served in the Navy during WW II. Jim was based on the SS San Francisco. In 1948 Jim married Marguerite Marchesano and they had four children. Jim and Marguerite just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Jim worked for Wallace Homestead most of his life and prior to retiring he worked for Plain Talk Printing Co. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and over the years served on many committees at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and School and Dowling Catholic High School. In Jim’s retirement years he enjoyed traveling to Phoenix and most of all his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by: his wife Marguerite, his children: James C. Jr. (Marie), Anna Marie Krahl (Bill) all of West Des Moines, Perry Allen (Elizabeth) of Phoenix, Az. Theresa Walker Nowell (Edward) of San Diego, Ca. Jim has 10 grand children and 8 great grandchildren and a sister Jean Lorey of Des Moines.
Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Care, 2135 SW 9th, on Tuesday, July 20th starting at 2:00 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.
Kimberly Wilkinson
Kimberly Wilkinson, 38, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. Family will greet friends at Chuck's Restaurant, 6th and Euclid Avenue, following the service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery.
Kimberly was born in Des Moines and had lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. She graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1984. Kimberly was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She liked animals and enjoyed listening to music, especially Motown.
She is survived by her husband, John; twin daughters, Hannah and Shelby Wilkinson; son, Brandon, all of Des Moines; father and mother, Jim and Terry Zuch of West Des Moines; sisters, Christine Allen of Des Moines and Stephanie Woolson of Winterset; her grandmother, Theresa Cardamon of Des Moines; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Frank Cardamon Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Kim Wilkinson Trust Fund at Bankers Trust in Windsor Heights.
Lillian Byrum
Lillian Byrum, 96, died of natural causes on June 1, 2004 at USA Healthcare in Urbandale.
Lillian was born October 13, 1907 in Snyder, TX and had lived in the Des Moines area since 1922. She graduated from Drake University and taught school briefly before opening the Byrum Nursery School in 1939, which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1976.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in many clubs, including the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), the Des Moines Women's Club, and AAU. Lillian and her late husband, Robert Byrum were long-time supporters of Drake University athletics.
Mrs. Byrum is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Newton Bowers of Clive; her daughter, Eva Mercer of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Alice Benge, Pamela Frederick, Ted Mercer, Arnie Mercer and Doug Hoskins; and eight great-grandchildren, Chris Benge, Ross and Carter Frederick and Meaghan, Kevin, Payton, Paige and Max Mercer.
In addition to her husband Robert, Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, James and Harriet Eubank; her brother, Louis Eubank; her sister, Katie Gustafson; her son-in-law, Robert Mercer; and her great-grandson, Robert Benge.
Visitation will be held June 10, 2004 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel. Cremation and intermenty will follow at a later date.
Linda K. Ewurs
Linda K. Ewurs, 49, was born February 25, 1955 in Des Moines, IA, and died August 9, 2004 of cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12 at Valley Junction Church of God, 317 Elm Street, with Pastor Dunscomb officiating.
Linda is survived by her longtime companion, Teddy Moraine; sons, Michael (Leigh) Perkins and Daniel Perkins; daughter, Ashley Perkins; brother, William Perkins; sister, Lorie Layland; and grandchildren, Kayleigh and Michael Perkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Perkins.

Lonnie C. Roberson
Lonnie C. Roberson, 57, died July 19 in Rockport, ME. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26 at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lonnie was born in Maine and moved to the Des Moines area in 1977. He was employed at Ambico and was most recently a stockbroker prior to retirement.
Lonnie loved nature and being outdoors. He enjoyed fly fishing, gardening, the Boston Celtics and basketball. Lonnie also liked remodeling. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone around him laugh.
Lonnie will be missed by his sons, Joshua, Nicholas and Torey; daughters, Lindsay Roberson-Sayers and Chelsea; four grandchildren, Ethan, Connor, Kaleb and Alexandra; mother, Evelyn Roberson; brother, Terry Roberson; the mother of his children, Nancy Roberson; and his fiancé Abby Shrik.
Mary V. Funaro
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for Mary Funaro, who died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Taylor Hospice House.
Mary was retired from Flowers by Anthony and Nielsen's Flowers and Greenhouse as a floral designer. She enjoyed crocheting and baking for special family occasions. She was very fond of watching her nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews grow up.
Mary will be missed by her brother, George (Kay) Funaro and sisters, Rachel Stasi and Anna Marie Ruggiero, all of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michele and Rose Funaro and her brother, Dominic.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Care-Tonini Chapel, with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony's Catholic Church Restoration Project.
Loretta Doud
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Born in Pomeroy, Iowa, Loretta lived in the Highland Park area for 70 years and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. She was a homemaker and worked as an assistant for Dr. Robert L. Parker, MD, for over 31 years.
Loretta will be missed by her grandchildren Laura Kaye (Greg) Sanders, Beth Anne (Earle) Pion, William John (Deb) Easter, 7 great-grandchildren, Erin, Janna, Amanda, Eleighcia, Natalie, Broderick, Caden and son-in-law James C. Easter.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, John F. "Buck" Doud, and her daughter, Kathleen F. Doud Easter.
Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel, Tuesday, January 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm scripture service and rosary. Memorials suggested to the All Saints Restoration Fund in Stuart or Hospice of Central Iowa.
Mabel M. Linthicum
Mabel M. (Clark) Linthicum, 94, died on Saturday, January 10, 2004, of pneumonia at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church (lower level, enter at west carport entrance) at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, with Father Art McCann and Father Bob Aubrey officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City, IA.
Mabel was born on July 23, 1909, in Ellston, Iowa. She attended Simpson College, then taught in a one-room country school. She had the gift of a beautiful voice and was the soloist for the Union County Rural Chorus in the 1940s. In 1960, she moved to Des Moines and later retired as a bookkeeper for Nash Music. She was a charter resident at Elsie Mason Manor, where she resided until her death.
Mrs. Linthicum is survived by one son, William Clark Linthicum (wife Jane); seven grandchildren: Debra, Patrick, Sean, Charles, and Matthew Linthicum, all of Des Moines, Peggy Linthicum of Colorado Springs, and Anne Spurlock of Ankeny; and her great grandchildren: Andy and Chris Ogle, Kellie Hildreth, Michael, Katie, Taylor, Brett, and Paige Linthicum. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ann, a granddaughter, Catherine Jane, her parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa.
Lorraine Caligiuri
Lorraine A. Caligiuri, 74, died February 24, 2004 of heart failure. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, February 27 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Lorraine was born and lived most of her life in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. She dearly loved her grandchildren.
Lorraine will be missed by her husband, Charles B. Caligiuri of des Moines; son Lanny Caligiuri of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Lori and Chris Caligiuri; sister, Delores Day of Knoxville; and brother Larry Caldwell of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edna and Paul Caldwell; sister, Shirley Guillory; and brother, Paul Jr. Caldwell of Des Moines.

Services will be held 1 PM Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Care. Linda worked at K-Mart on Hubble Avenue and at Olin Mills Photograhy. A devoted mother, wife and sister she was an Elvis fan and enjoyed wathcing movies. She will be missed by her husband Terry, sons Donald and Terry Mathew, sisters Sandy Mastrofski, Cheryl Campbell, Bonnie Gillum and her golden retriever Frisbie, She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Barbara Rodda and an infant sister Susan. Visitation will be held 3 to 8 PM on Monday with family greeting friends 5 to 8 at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel.
