Muriel Hinton Frisbie
Graveside services for Muriel will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, February 26 at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City. Lunch will follow at the United Methodist Church.
Muriel was born January 29, 1906 in New York City to Robert and Helen Wessels. She grew up in Corning, Iowa, where she married Lester S. Hinton. In addition to working at home, Muriel worked alongside Lester as an accountant in their business, Hinton Motor Company in Rockwell City. After Lester died, she worked for Farm Bureau. Muriel married Ralph Frisbie and moved to Cherokee, Iowa in 1960. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona until Ralph’s death.
Muriel will be missed by her daughters, Bettie Hinton Jespersen of West Des Moines, and Mary Jo Hinton Johnson of Rockwell City; son Richard W. Hinton of Battleground, WA; 3 stepchildren, Roger Frisbie of Cherokee; Margaret Swanson of Edena, MN; and Cathy Moss of CA; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and a granddaughter, Joan Hinton.

Lisa McClish
Lisa Kay McClish, 40, died Monday morning, March 29 at Mercy Medical Center. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 3 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel. Following the gathering, a reception will be held at Ewing Park.
Lisa will be missed by her mother, Helen; daughter, Cheyenna (Josh) Irwin; brothers, Jim and Gary; sisters, Claudia, Vicki, Paula, and Sandy; three half brothers; three half sisters; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her many friends, especially best friend, Sherry. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Lee.
Memorial contributions are suggested to her mother, Helen.

Mark Hughes
Mark W. (Henry) Hughes, 54, died April 25, 2004 at his home in Des Moines. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home-University Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. Mark will be missed by his daughter, Angela of Des Moines; brother, Richard of San Diego, CA; and ex-wife, Linda Scarpino Hughes.

Marian Williams
Marian Audrey Williams, 84, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 6 at Resthaven Cemetery.
Marian was born in West Des Moines in 1919 and graduated from Valley High School. She was a very active member of West Des Moines Christian Church.
Marian is survived by her son, George (Marcia) Williams; grandchildren, Melissa Williams and Scott (Camille) Williams; great-granddaughter, Jada Williams; step-grandchildren, Jeff (Joan) Way, Mike Way, Denise Way and Jon (Miyuki) Way; step-great-grandchildren, Heather, Ryan, Stephanie, and Stephen Way; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and step-grandson, David Way.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa.

NANCY KAY DOIGE
Nancy Kay Doige, 59, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was born to Ruth and Verl Mattly on September 18, 1945.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Edith Curtis and Linda Roberta Mattly. She is survived by her two sisters, Phyllis Beck of Newton and Betty Fairfax of Kansas City, MO; her three brothers, Stephen Mattly of Bates City, MO, Carl Mattly and Thomas Mattly, both of Des Moines; and her several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at the Westside Pentecostal Church at 4520 Madison Avenue.

Margaret McDaniel
Margaret Catherine McDaniel (Vardo), 85, was born in Colfax, Iowa on January 1, 1919 and was a lifelong resident of Polk County. She enlisted as a US Navy WAVE during WWII and was honorably discharged for a heart murmur. She then went to work at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny during the war, making 50 caliber ammunition. Margaret was a homemaker and had retired as a waitress from the Johnston Dairy Sweet after 34 years. She was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert A. McDaniel. She will be missed by her daughters, Karen Neubauer of Savannah, GA and Jane McWilliams of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Beth Griffin, Tracey Ihle, Brenda Wadle, Janel McWilliams and Jesse McWilliams; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Schnathorst of Des Moines, Amelia Zoutte of Knoxville, and Jennie Woodrow of Newton.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 26 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Care, with a Prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Opal M. Townsend
Opal Townsend, 87, of NBA Ramsey Home, Des Moines, Iowa, and a long time resident of Tulsa, OK passed away Thursday, January 1, 2004, after a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s. In celebration of her life, a graveside service will be held January 5, 2004 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Tulsa, OK, 6500 S. 129 E Ave., Broken Arrow, OK. The family will receive visitors at Floral Haven, beginning at 1:30 p.m., just prior to the graveside service. A memorial service will be held at a later date. At NBA Ramsey Home, Des Moines.
Opal was born and raised in McAlester, OK and spent most of her adult life in Tulsa, OK. She was a dedicated wife and mother; married to her recently deceased husband John “J.D.” for 69 years. She was a retired bookkeeper from the Tulsa Public School System. Her hobbies included homemaking, cooking, gardening, jewelry making, and church librarian. She was also an active member and leader of the Tulsa Rock Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of B. of L.F. & E., and the First Christian Church of Tulsa.
Two sons, John Townsend of Tulsa, and Ron Townsend of West Des Moines, IA, eight grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren survive Opal.
The family suggests memorial considerations be directed to the First Christian Church, 913 South Boulder, Tulsa, OK, 74119 or Hospice of Central Iowa, 401 Railroad Place, West Des Moines, IA 50265.

Phyllis N. Cross
Phyllis N. Cross, 80, died July 8th of complications from Alzhiemers. A funeral vigil will be held 2 PM Tuesday, July 13 at Bishop Drumm Chapel.
Phyllis was a homemaker and served as a bookkeeper for 25 years at the Convelesent Home for Children. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be missed by her children, Craig (Becky), Cyndi (Gary) Meggison, Tom (Linda) and Tim (Janell), 10 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Clifford.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 PM Monday, July 12 at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel. Memorial contributions suggested to Bishop Drumm or the Alzhiemers Foundation.

Pauline Loica
Pauline Spencer Loica, 83, of Polk City, died on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street in Des Moines after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Pauline was born on January 27, 1921 in Bouton, Iowa to Raymond and Esther Spencer. She lived most of her life in Perry, Iowa. During WWII, she enlisted in the WACS and was proud of having been a veteran. She worked for many years at Woodward State Hospital School and the Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.
She is survived by her three daughters, Jody Heifner of Iowa City, Donna (Dan) Franklin of Pleasantville, NY, and Mary (Jon) Baker of Polk CIty; five grandchildren, Taryn Knight, Chris Heifner, Jessica Whitney, Aaron Gunderson and Emily Franklin; and three great-granddaughters, Rachel, Katie and Lola.
Memorials may be made to Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines.

Peter Renzo, Sr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Mr. Peter J. Renzo Sr., 86, who died May 27.
Born in Des Moines, Peter was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the CCC Corps. Peter served his country in the US Marine Corps where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry while engaged with Japanese forces on Guam. He later retired from the US Postal Service. Peter enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife of 59 years Candida, his children; Pete Jr., Joe (Diane), and Julianne, 4 grandchildren; Juliet, Maria, Eric and Peter J., sisters Elizabeth and Theresa and a brother Dominic. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Tony who died serving his country on Iwo Jima and Frank, and his sister Rose.
Visitation will be held 1 to 9 PM today with a rosary at 7 PM at the funeral home. Military Graveside services will be held at Glendale Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. Memorial Contributions suggested to Kavanagh House to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Hallie Hohle
Mrs. Hallie E. Hohle died at her home on April 14, 2004 with her daughter, Jeanette by her side. Funeral services will be held in Houston, Texas. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Ronald Bales
Ronald L. Bales, 70, passed away July 15, 2004. He is survived by sons, Kevin, Tim, Brian, Jerry, Kenneth Todd and Shawn; daughter, Rhonda Esdohr; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m Monday, July 19 at the Brooks Funeral Care-Tonini Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ruth Bates
Ruth Bates, 90, entered into her eternal life August 27, 2004 with her immediate family at her bedside.
Ruth was born in rural Orilla to John Parker and Jenny Pearl Jordan Parker. She graduated from Valley High School in 1932.
Ruth worked for the Internal Revenue Service, sold real estate and with her husband owned and operated a building contracting firm.
She enjoyed her family, card playing, cooking and sewing.
Ruth was very supportive and active at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church where she served the congregation on the Alter Guild, Prayer Chain, the Geodes and was past president of St. Anne’s Guild.
She will be missed by her daughters Mrs. Kermit (Diane) Dunahoo and Mrs. Tyrone (Charlene) Wilson both of Dexter, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death in 1990 by her husband of 54 years Charles Bates.
Eucharistic Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
Visitation will take place 3 to 8:30 PM Monday with family greeting friends after 6 PM at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel.
Memorial contributions suggested in Ruth’s honor to her church or Kavanaugh House on Grand.

Mary Musselman
Mary U. Musselman, 88, died February 28, 2004 of cancer at her home. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Dexter Cemetery.
Mary was born in Dexter, Iowa to Floyd H. And Serena Mae McLane Walker, and had lived in West Des Moines since 1963. She worked at Des Moines Golf and Country Club and most recently at Crestview Acres before retiring in 1989. She loved being with her family and loved to read and play board games.
Mary will be missed by her daughter, Beverly Musselman of West Des Moines; son, Larry (Sharon) Musselman of Waukee; three grandchildren, Debbie Musselman of Avon Lake, Michael Musselman of Des Moines, and Julie (Kevin) Clarken of Urbandale; four great-grandchildren; and her niece, JoAnn Gardner of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, her parents, two sisters, and a brother.
Visitation will be today, March 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
