Phyllis N. Cross
Phyllis N. Cross, 80, died July 8th of complications from Alzhiemers. A funeral vigil will be held 2 PM Tuesday, July 13 at Bishop Drumm Chapel.
Phyllis was a homemaker and served as a bookkeeper for 25 years at the Convelesent Home for Children. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be missed by her children, Craig (Becky), Cyndi (Gary) Meggison, Tom (Linda) and Tim (Janell), 10 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Clifford.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 PM Monday, July 12 at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel. Memorial contributions suggested to Bishop Drumm or the Alzhiemers Foundation.

Phyllis Hasstedt
Phyllis Anne Slater Hasstedt, 74, died August 2, 2004. Private family services will be held.
Phyllis retired from the Des Moines School System after 20 years of service. She was a loving and caring grandmother.
Phyllis will be missed by her daughter, Linda (Russell) Evans; son, Thomas (Julie) Slater; son, John Hasstedt; daughter, Holly (Kraig) Ketelsen; grandchildren, Hayley, Brittany, John Thomas (JT), Reagan, Carson, and Kael. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas L. Slater and Kenneth L. Hasstedt; her parents, Vivian and Carl Dyer; and her brother, C. Judson Heldt.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Kavanagh House on Grand.

Phillip Henderson
Phillip Joe Henderson, 39, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 25 after a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 29 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Cremation will follow the service.
Joe was born on January 24, 1965 in Clay Center, KS, to Martin and Margaret Henderson. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1983, Hutchinson Community College in 1985 with an AA in Business and later from Kansas State with a BA in Business Administration. He was employed by John Deere Credit in Johnston as a business development manager. Joe and his wife Juli Steppuhn- Henderson, originally of Council Bluffs, were married on August 8, 1998.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Martin Joe, 17, Theresa Elizabeth, 15, Jordan Jonelle, 5, and Cassidy Joli, 2; mother, Margaret Kienzle of Hutchinson, KS; sisters, Debbie Templeton and Barbara Henderson of Hutchinson, KS; and brother, Martin Arthur Henderson of Atlanta, GA. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Martin Lester Henderson.
Joe enjoyed cooking, playing with his children and playing all kinds of sports including volleyball, softball, tennis and bowling with his friends. He was a wonderful father and husband, and he will be greatly missed by his children, family, friends and co-workers.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Care-University Chapel, where family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family will be used as donations for the trust funds being set up for the children.

Paul Iverson
Paul Iverson went to be with his Lord on September 18, 2004 at the age of 45. He attended Union Park Baptist Church and had a love for God. He also loved Star Trek, Star Wars, bowling and tennis.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 22 at Union Park Baptist Church. Paul will be missed by his parents, Marvin and Penny Iverson; brother, Eric; sisters, Karen Iverson and Valerie Wedgeworth; stepsister, Vicki Danford; stepbrothers, Larry, Terry and Rick Miller; and his nieces and nephews, John, Jesse, Jodee Wedgeworth, Michelle, Fritz, Robert and Larry Jr. Miller, Kristine Hussman, Madelyn Shouse and Jenny Moon. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Mary and a brother, Forrest.

Pauline Loica
Pauline Spencer Loica, 83, of Polk City, died on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street in Des Moines after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Pauline was born on January 27, 1921 in Bouton, Iowa to Raymond and Esther Spencer. She lived most of her life in Perry, Iowa. During WWII, she enlisted in the WACS and was proud of having been a veteran. She worked for many years at Woodward State Hospital School and the Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.
She is survived by her three daughters, Jody Heifner of Iowa City, Donna (Dan) Franklin of Pleasantville, NY, and Mary (Jon) Baker of Polk CIty; five grandchildren, Taryn Knight, Chris Heifner, Jessica Whitney, Aaron Gunderson and Emily Franklin; and three great-granddaughters, Rachel, Katie and Lola.
Memorials may be made to Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines.

Priscilla Mitcham
Priscilla "Pris" Mitcham, 65, died May 21, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 23 at Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel in Clive.
Priscilla was born in Elgin, Illinois. She grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and graduated from Principia Upper School in St. Louis, Missouri. As a young woman, Priscilla was an accomplished equestrian, enjoyed sailing and worked as a camp counselor. Priscilla graduated from Drake University with a Drama/Speech Major. She participated in many productions at the Des Moines Community Playhouse. In addition to being a mother of three children, she was the #1 ranked amateur tennis player in Iowa. Her professional career included Fashion Coordination for Fieldmans Clothing, Communications Director for United Way and Director of Special Events at Drake University from which she retired in 1994. Priscilla attended the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Des Moines.
Priscilla will be missed by her husband, Denny of Urbandale; children, Heidi McIntosh of Urbandale, Wendy Johnson of Johnston and Scott Rodberg of Des Moines; stepsons, Jeff and Tim of Pheoniz, Arizona; grandchildren, Shea, Gavin, Sydney and Sofie; and sisters, Mary Muller of Des Moines and Virginia Kruger of Petoskey, Michigan;
Memorial contributions are suggested to Drake University or InTrust Taylor House Hospice.

Ronald Bales
Ronald L. Bales, 70, passed away July 15, 2004. He is survived by sons, Kevin, Tim, Brian, Jerry, Kenneth Todd and Shawn; daughter, Rhonda Esdohr; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m Monday, July 19 at the Brooks Funeral Care-Tonini Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul T. Doanetto, Sr.
Apr. 27, 1951 - May 12, 2004
Services for Mr. Paul Doanetto, 54, will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Care- University Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rubye Dean
Nov. 4, 1908 - Dec. 14, 2003
Memorial services for Rubye F. Dean, 95, formerly of Des Moines, will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 26, 2004 at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Gove of Kimberling City, MO; two grandsons, John Reid of Chicago, IL, and George Reid and wife, Diane of Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church, 2500 University Avenue in Des Moines.

Robert Edwards
Robert "Bob" Edwards, 82, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of a lung disease. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 at Brooks Funeral Home, 7975 University in Clive. Private intermenty of his ashes will be at a later date.
Bob was born in Waterloo, Iowa on June 10, 1922. He moved to West Des Moines, Iowa 50 years ago. He retired from Gifford-Brown, Inc. After his retirement, he was very involved in music, playing the trumpet with local bands. He traveled and lived life to the fullest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bette; daughter, Karen Lettington (Russell); son, Jim Edwards; grandson, Rob Lettington; twin sister, Betty Warren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Dolan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for distribution to Bob's favorite charities.

Peter Renzo, Sr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Mr. Peter J. Renzo Sr., 86, who died May 27.
Born in Des Moines, Peter was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the CCC Corps. Peter served his country in the US Marine Corps where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry while engaged with Japanese forces on Guam. He later retired from the US Postal Service. Peter enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife of 59 years Candida, his children; Pete Jr., Joe (Diane), and Julianne, 4 grandchildren; Juliet, Maria, Eric and Peter J., sisters Elizabeth and Theresa and a brother Dominic. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Tony who died serving his country on Iwo Jima and Frank, and his sister Rose.
Visitation will be held 1 to 9 PM today with a rosary at 7 PM at the funeral home. Military Graveside services will be held at Glendale Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. Memorial Contributions suggested to Kavanagh House to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Ralph Jackson
Ralph Jackson, 80, died May 17, 2004 at Kavanagh House. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Northbrook United Methodist Church in Northbrook, IL with the Rev. Gary Waters officiating. Hisremains will be scattered with his wifes in a memorial garden.
He was born March 8, 2004 in Princeton, IL to Fred and Florence Jackson. Ralph graduated from the University of Illinois and was a WW II Veteran. He worked for Packaging Corporation of America as a corporate accountant before his retirement.
Mr. Jackson is survived by two daughters, Kelly Lynn Jackson and Candis L. Jackson; a brother-in-law, Paul Brubaker; four sisters-in-law, Lee Ann Sloan, Gwen Brubaker, Wendy Cassaude, and Helen Jackson; a mother-in-law, Margaret Brubaker; a father-in-law, James Brubaker; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Jackson, his wives, Lynn M. Jackson and Betty Jackson.

Raymond Phillips
Raymond Elliott Phillips died Thursday, May 27,2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 Sunday at the church. Internment will be at a later date.
Ray, son of Ray and Mildred (Elliott) Phillips, was born February 6, 1923 in Gilman Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941 and served in WWII as a pilot in the Naval Air Corps in the Pacific theatre. Upon returning, he attended Iowa State University, where he met Shirley J. Tollefson. They married on June 30, 1946. He worked as a contractor and architectural engineer in Des Moines for over 40 years.
Ray’s true avocation was music. He was the drum major at Lincoln High School, dance band leader at ISU, and an accomplished saxophone player with Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, area bands and local churches.
Raymond was a life long member of Fort Des Moines Methodist Church. He was a 33rd degree member of Southgate Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, and their children, three daughters: Candy (Michael) Conlan of Iowa City, Pam Phillips Brennan of Des Moines, and Shirley (Bruce) Kunkle of Fulton MO, two sons: Raymond “Skip” (Lin ) of Des Moines and Kirk (Mary Jeanne Perino) of Iowa City, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Ft. Des Moines United Methodist Church and Lincoln High School.

Robert Waldron
Robert James Waldron, Jr., 55, died March 22, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial at St John’s Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.
Robert was born in Des Moines and lived most of his life in West Des Moines. He was an engineer for Northwester Bell, Qwest and most recently Titan. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the America Legion, and Post Commander of VFW Post #8879. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Robert liked to cook and do carpentry work. He enjoyed sports and golfing and loved animals, especially his cats.
Robert will be missed by his son, Justin Waldron of Denver, CO; loving companion, Deborah Buse of West Des Moines and her daughter, Lori Buse of Myrtle Beach, SC; father, R.J. Waldron, Sr. of West Des Moines; brother, Michael Waldron of West Des Moines; sisters, Deborah Davis of West Des Moines, Shelley Moyer of Castle Rock, CO, and Mary Waldron and Megan Waldron, both of West Des Moines; aunt, Goldie Havel of West Des Moines; cousin, Dennes Havel of Laurie, MO; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother, Esther, and two uncles.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Center, where a Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Rita Ann Ceaser, 79, of Laurel, Iowa, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 in her home of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, September 29 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. A memorial fund has been established.
