Sheri George
West Des Moines
Sheri George, 66, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006 at the Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Ave. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sheri was born in Davenport, Iowa to Eddie and Betty Gere. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1962 where she earned a degree in Art. She worked in advertising until 1967, then became a full time mother. The family moved to the West Des Moines area in 1969 where Sheri enjoyed volunteering at her children's school and attended their activities. After raising her children, she went to work for Acme Printing as an artist. She loved art, gardening and traveling but especially cherished the time with her family. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, West Des Moines Historical Society and the West Des Moines Women's Club.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Robert Shreck, Tammy and Jane, Dr. George Lederhaas, Powell Three Methodist staff and the Kavanagh House for the treatment, care, comfort and support.
She will be missed by her husband of 42 years, Tom; her son, Mike (Teresa) George of Salem, Oregon; her daughter, Julie (Earl) Tuckman of Skokie, IL; her three grandchildren, Ben, Sam and Tommy; her brothers, John (Diane) Gere and Perry (Julie) Gere both of Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Louise Woods
Boone
Louise Rungee Woods, 73, died May 19, 2006. Her body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Burial of her cremains will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral chapel from noon until the time of service.
Robert F. Hanson, Sr.
Des Moines
Funeral services for Robert F. Hanson will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tonini Chapel 7 p.m. Tragion Service.
Robert was a Insurance agent for J and A Insurance. He was a Navy Seal and served during Viet Nam. Robert was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed yard work, remodeling, and watching John Wayne Movies.
He will be missed by his wife of 37 years Mary D. Hughes; son, Robert F. (Dawn) Hanson Jr.; daughter, Kathleen M. Hanson; grand daughter, Sydney Hanson; sister, Mary Kennedy; nephew, James M. (Janice) Kennedy and their son Dylan.

Patricia Darland
Des Moines
Patricia Ann Darland, 65, died June 10, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center. Patricia was born in Montezuma, Iowa on March 9, 1941 and lived in Des Moines for the last 37 years. She liked to do crafts and loved her cats and her dog, Maya.
She will be missed by her daughter, Dawn of Des Moines; her brother, Pete Allgood and sister, Alice Langford of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Calvin in 2003. Memorial donations may be made to Animal Life Line.
Marvin Marsh
Waukee
Marvin Marsh, 86, died June 13, 2006 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Private inurnment will be at Waukee Cemetery.
He is survived by son, Francis (Kris) of Urbandale; grandchildren, Katelyn and Michael and four children; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren from a previous marriage. He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters.
Michael J. Loffredo
Des Moines
Michael J. Loffredo, joined our Lord in Heaven, on the morning of Saturday, May 27, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mike was born November 28, 1917 in Des Moines Iowa.
After graduating from Lincoln High School at the age of 16, Mike began working full-time in coal mines surrounding Des Moines. He then met the love of his life, Mary DeCarlo and they were married in 1940. Thereafter, Mike was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, and served in combat as a Tech Sergeant. Following his return from the service, Mike was the owner/operator of Mike's Supermarket for 35 years.
Mike found fulfillment in utilizing his skills as a Master Gardner. In addition, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Babo". Mike's musical talents were demonstrated as an accordion player beginning at a young age. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Bellizzi MacRae American Legion Post 659 and the Society of Italian Americans.
Mike will always be remembered in the hearts of the love of his life, Mary (DeCarlo) Loffredo; his children MaryAnn Ward, Michael J. Loffredo II (Kathleen), Judith Elliott (Dennis); and his grandchildren, Steve Ward II, Lisa Martin, Adam Elliott and Sara Loffredo; and great-grandchildren, Nick, Jack and Quinn Martin.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., May 31, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation is Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Rosary at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.
Letha Rizer
Des Moines
Letha Rizer was born on May 24, 1908 in Manchester, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles P. Rizer - Edgewood, and Rose Altha Pilgrim - Greeley.
Letha taught country school near Manchester, Iowa for a year. She also taught at Hopkinton Iowa while attending summer school at Fayette, Iowa until she received her BA Degree. She taught at Council Bluffs, Iowa for two and one-half years. She then came to Des Moines, Iowa for three years to teach, also attending summer school at Columbia in New York to earn her Master’s Degree. She moved to Long Beach, California to teach for one year. She then decided to return to Des Moines to teach primary grades, and also was an Assistant Principal until retiring in 1973 at age 65. She taught at Fort Des Moines School and Riley School in Des Moines. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. On May 1, 2006 she was recognized for 51 years of membership from 1955 to 2006.
Survivors include two nieces: JoNita Fisher of West Des Moines and Judy Wise of Kansas City, MO.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Care on Sunday May 7, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at Wesley United Methodist Church on Monday May 8, 2006 at 2:30 p.m.
Todd Henderson
Des Moines
Todd Lewis Henderson, 38, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at his home. A memorial service will be held at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006.
Todd was born on February 5, 1968 to Donald and Beverly Henderson. He worked at the Des Moines Science Center and was a member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities. Todd will be missed very much by family and friends.
Todd is survived by his father, Donald Henderson, sister, Tena (Ron) Rench and Taressa (Joe) Burgess-Beamen and brother, Tony (Gina) Henderson.
Todd was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Henderson.
Lena Ross
Des Moines
Lena Ross was born July 3, 1919. She was the daughter of Tony and Maria Dellaca, both immigrants of Italy. She was born in Dunker, KS and grew up in Waukee, Iowa and lived most of her life in Des Moines. She is survived in death by her granddaughters, Julie and Jackie Morrow and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Julius Ross in 1984, daughter, Toni Morrow; sister, Pirena Vignaroli and four brothers, Mareo, Stevie, Lester and Frankie.
Lena worked as a childcare provider and raised many children. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church, blue star home, PTA Easter Seals and MADD. Her door was always open to anyone who wanted to talk about their problems or just sit and chat with "Little Lena" She was a "grandmother" and mentor to many. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10: 30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Our Lady of the Americas, St. Peter's Worship Center, 618 E. 18th Street, Des Moines. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery. Friends may call Friday at the church from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m.
Lillian "Darlene" Campbell
Des Moines
Lillian "Darlene" Campbell, 80, passed away Thursday May 25, 2006 peacefully at her home in Des Moines. The body was cremated and no services are planned.
Darlene was born in LeRoy, Iowa and lived in Des Moines for 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur. She is survived by her son, Gary; granddaughter, Amber of Des Moines; daughter, Marcia (Andrew) Korontjis; and three grandsons, Brandon, Michael, and Stephen who are all of Mesquite, Texas.
Judith Strait
Norwalk
Judith A. Strait, 64, of rural Norwalk, died December 4, 2004 of cancer at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 8 at Trinity Baptist Church, 4600 SW 26th Street in Des Moines. Burial will be held at North River Cemetery in rural Norwalk.
Judith was born January 1, 1940 in Iowa City, IA. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School. Judith lived on the south side of Des Moines until moving to Warren County in 1975. She was a bank teller for 1st Interstate Bank and a bookkeeper for the family business, Strait Transmission Service.
First and foremost, Judith was a wife and mother. She devoted her life to her husband and children. She enjoyed crafting and quilting and touched many lives with her beautiful quilts.
Judith is survived by her husband, Richard H. Strait; daughter, Debora (Randy) Simpson and their children, Joshua, Gabrielle, Joel and Jacob of rural Norwalk; son, Richard Lee (Carmen) Strait and their children, Emily, Elizabeth, David and Benjamin of Steamboat Springs, CO; son, Danny (Jill) Strait and their son, Kolten of Denver, CO; brothers, L. Dwaine Hill, C. Gene Hill, Rick Post and Larry Underwood; and sisters, Beverly Love, Mary Jo Gibson and Sandra Potter.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Iola Underwood; father, Lawrence Hill; brothers, Donald and George; and sister, Karen Navarro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used according to the wishes of the family.
James A. Schulte
West Des Moines
James A. Schulte, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday June 10th, after a brief illness with cancer of the lung. It was Jim's wish for his body to be donated to Des Moines University. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines. A memorial gathering will be today , June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m.
Jim was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1920 to Bernard and Belle Schulte. He attended the University of Minnesota and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII.
Jim had an extremely successful career with NCR that spanned 42 years until his retirement as District Manager in 1987. One of the highlights of his career was his role in the development of the debit card concept.
He was active in Rotary, President of Golden K Kiwanis, President of the Kiwanis Foundation for twelve years, and awarded for his fundraising efforts. Jim was an avid golfer and longtime member of Des Moines Golf and County Club. He enjoyed large family gatherings, vacations with friends and family, a lake home in northern Wisconsin, and winter retreats in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Jim is survived by his "bride" of 61 years, Kathleen (Kay) and was the proud father of nine children: five sons and four daughters, Patrick (Julie) of Des Moines, James E. of Minneapolis, Paul (Sue) of Madison, Steve (Joanne) of San Jose, Robert (Vicky) Santa Ana, Kathy Condit (Mike) of Madison, Peggy Fullmer, (Robert) of Milwaukee, Mary Jo Brink (Eduardes) of Los Angeles, Sharon Stremke (Kirk) of Eden Prairie. Jim is further survived by 22 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
