Helen C. Eickhoff, 67, of Bettendorf, died Friday, March 7, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 14, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Interment will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Miss Eickhoff was born July 1, 1935 in Scott County, Iowa to Hugo J. and Marie (Fahrenkrug) Eickhoff.
She was an x-ray technician at Davenport Clinic for forty years, retiring in 1994.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law Betty and Richard Finck, Durant, Iowa, sister-in-law Marlyne Eickhoff, Bettendorf, nieces Sandra Dixon, Bettendorf and Deborah Rindler, Pleasant Valley, nephew John Eickhoff, Columbia, Missouri and a special friend Jan Graaff, Pleasant Valley.
She was preceded in death by a brother John in 1998 and a niece Cheryl Martz in 1981.

Phyllis was born April 6, 1924 in Davenport, Iowa to Phillip and Violet (Skeels) Hartley. She married Herman W. Elmore on November 25, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her November 6, 1994.
She worked for thirty years in the retail business as head cashier for Speigel Catolog outlet and Petersons Harned Von Maur.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Horton, Calif., Linda (Greg) Padavich, Camanche, IA; a son, Dion Elmore (Ann), Colorado Springs, CO; Fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Charles) Woodford, Long Grove, IA; three brothers, Walter McCormick, Davenport, IA, Donald S. Katherine Anderson, 94, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Kahl Home for the Aged & Infirm, Davenport, Iowa.
Celebration of Life services will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 P.M. Saturday,
just prior to the service at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will be Monday at Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
Memorial gifts may be made to Edwards Congregational United Church of Christ, Davenport, Iowa or a favorite charity.
Katherine was born December 4, 1908 in La Porte City, Iowa to William and Elizabeth (Kempf) Watts. She married A. Lane Anderson on July 2, 1927 in Vinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Katherine was a homemaker. She especially enjoyed being with her family, playing bridge and gardening. She also enjoyed the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Anderson, Bettendorf, IA; four grandchildren, Lori (James) Stanziola, Overland Park, KS, James (Laura) Anderson, Leawood, KS, Mark Anderson, Ft. Collins, CO, David (Linda) Weldon, Conroe, TX; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Arend, Waterloo, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Elaine Weldon and a sister, Blanche Burnham.

VADA L. SHELBY
February 10, 1960 - March 17, 2003

Vada L. Shelby, 43, Davenport, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at her residence. Celebration of Life services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 24th at Pentecostal Apostolic Faith Church, Davenport , Davenport. Visitation will be 11:30 A.M. until service time at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Weerts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vada was born February 10, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa to Lillie Davis and Buster Shelby.
She had been a clerical worker for the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.
Vada was a beloved sister and aunt. Although Vada had no natural children of her own, she was a mother figure to many, including her nieces and nephews.
As a teenager Vada attended Central High School, Davenport. Her greatest love was her family, fishing and cooking. She was a member of Pentecostal Apostolic Faith Church, Davenport.
Vada is survived by a sister Urgertean Reyes, a brother Willie Davis, both of Davenport, nieces Regan Davis, Davenport, Crystal Hughes, E. Moline, nephew William Irby, San Francisco, a very special nephew James Wesley Davis, Davenport, a special friend Anthony Lee, Davenport and a host of other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Although Vada will be missed by many, her spirit will always be with us.

Bernice M. Kane, 93, of Davenport, Iowa died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, IA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 19th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10AM until time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran, Davenport, Iowa.
Bernice M. Kane was born February 13, 1910, in Davenport, to Erwin J. and Marie L. (Kock) Kane.
She worked as a medical secretary for Dr. W. C. Goenne, Sr. She worked for 38 years retiring in 1963.
Bernice was a charter member of Rainbow Girls, and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Survivors include her third cousins, Gilbert and his wife Margaret Krock, and Curtis and his wife Leta Krock of Canton, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Janet M. Hobert, 72, Pineville, North Carolina, formerly of Davenport, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Lakeview Living Center, Pineville, North Carolina. Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 13, 2003 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Janet was born January 10, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Altha and Mae Greenlee. She married Duane F. Hobert April 29, 1956 in Davenport.
She retired in 1992 after over 30 years of employment as a supervisor of cytopathology at Quad City Pathologists Group. She was a member of St. John Vianney church in Bettendorf.
Survivors include daughters Tracey Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary Berrie, Lorton, Virginia, sons Jim Hobert, Denver, Colorado, Richard Hobert, Davenport, a step-son Steve Hobert, Davenport, grandchildren Krystle and Kassie Hobert, Michael, Sarah and Matthew Brown, and Nick Berrie, numerous great-grandchildren and long time friends Marilyn Eckerman and Lorena LeHew. She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Hobert in 1984.

Davenport, Iowa- Lois Breckenridge Jensen, 81, died Sunday, January 12, 2003, at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center following a lingering illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, and private burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal Military Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Lois was born July 19, 1921 in Tingley, Iowa to Bill and Lola Breckenridge. Her father, Bill, owned and operated the popular Breckenridge General Store in Tingley, Iowa for nearly 50 years.
Lois graduated from Tingley High School in 1938 and pursued a bookkeeping career with Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas and Farm Credit Bureau in Grand Island, Nebraska before relocating to Davenport, Iowa with Farm Credit Bureau in the early 1950s.
Lois was an energetic volunteer for numerous organizations including over two decades of work with St. Luke's Hospital/Genesis East Medical Center and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She also volunteered her time and energy for many years to the Miss Iowa Pageant and Davenport Public Schools. She was a member of King's Daughters, IMA and held several positions with the Davenport Public Schools including PTA President at McKinley Elementary and city and state executive tenures. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, in addition to enjoying the game of golf and playing cards with several local Davenport bridge clubs.
Lois, and her husband John, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 24, 2001 at their lake home on Rose Lake near Vergas, Minnesota. The two had originally met in Davenport following World War II, and were married in Tingley, Iowa in 1951.
Lois is survived by her husband, John Harlan, Davenport, a brother Dean "Bud" Breckenridge, Tingley; her son Jim, Denver, Colorado, and grandchildren Jessica, Cody and Jack, Denver, Colorado; her son, Andy and daughter-in-law, Cyndy, Plymouth, Minnesota, and step-grandchildren Jeb and Jordan Robinson, both of Plymouth, Minnesota.
Lois was preceded in death by her sisters Reba Erickson, Story City, Iowa, and Jean Skarda, Tingley, Iowa, and brother Billy Breckenridge, Tingley, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Genesis East Medical Center.
Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

ROBERT A. BULEN
August 31, 1923 - March 17, 2003

Robert A. “Bob” Bulen, 79. of Davenport, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Private Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held at National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois Friday, March 21, 2003. Visitation will be 4:00- 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 19th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Bob was born August 31, 1923 in Brice, Ohio to John and Minnie (Van Brimer) Bulen. He married Lois Preston January 29, 1944 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He was Director of Computer Systems with Deere and Company, Moline, for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He was on the cutting edge of computer introduction to business. He held memberships in numerous business organizations.
Bob served with the U. S. Army during WW II.
He enjoyed the sunshine and warmth for nine winters in Key Largo, Florida. He was an avid gardener and the ultimate handyman. An extensive traveler, he especially enjoyed cruises and was on six out of seven continents.
He was the last surviving member of a family of twelve children.
Survivors include his wife Lois, Moline, daughter and son-in-law Barbara Sue and Stephen Michael Rebro, Bettendorf, daughter Patricia Louise Johnson, Vail, Colorado, grandchildren Robert D. Johnson, Stephanie Rebro and Matthew Rebro, all of Chicago, and Emily Rebro of Champaign, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Tony Johnson in March 2001.

MARY LEE WALKER
April 19, 1919 - July 19, 2003

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23rd from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, IA, with an Eastern Star service at 6:00 P.M. followed by Daughters of Isis. Graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, IL.

Mary Lee was born April 19, 1919, in Clinton, Illinois to Thomas and Ora (Exum) Barker. She married Henry Martyn Walker, March 29, 1947 in Joliet, Illinois. He died December 4, 1975.
She was a graduate of the Joliet Township High School in 1939 and the American Baptist College, extension of the Quad Cities, Davenport, IA.
Mary Lee worked as a procurement specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 33 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Progressive Baptist Church, where she was involved in Missionary Ministry, chair of Advisory Counsel, past member of the church choir and Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Joliet, IL; member of Internation Training and Communication as their Toast Mistress; Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter 1, Davenport; member of Masqat #167 Daughters of Isis; volunteer for Wednesday Parmenas Food Program.
Mary Lee served as a foster grandparent, a past bowler and an avid collector.
Survivors include her daughter, Geraldine Walker, Davenport, IA; daughters and son-in-law, Marlene and Levell Gannaway, Joliet, IL, Sandra Walker and France, Joliet, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Dorothy Walker, Joliet, IL; grandchildren, Jamie (Ramont) Walker-Sallis and Cyntra Walker, Davenport, IA, Sonji and Kenya Walker, Joliet, Il, Raquita Walker, USS Iwo Jima, Annette Gannaway, St. Louis, MO, Jennifer (Melvin) Jenkins, Jefferson City, MO, France McNair, JR., Megan Gannaway both of Joliet, IL; step-grandsons, Marcus and Mario Edwards, Joliet, IL; great grandchildren, Ashley Satcher, Joliet,IL, Makala Walker, Davenport, IA, Melvin Jenkins, III, Jefferson City, MO, Ramont Jamieson Sallis, JR., Davenport, IA; sisters, Dorothy Fuqua and Pauline Whitfield , both of Joliet, IL; sister-in-law, Kate Walker, Ft. Robert was born August 3, 1942, in Los Angeles County, California to Lloyd O. and Eunice O. (Young) Souder. He married Mary Fortner on August 9, 1975, in Rock Island, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army during the VietNam War.
Robert worked as a machinist for MA Ford, Red Jacket Mfg. and Rock Island Arsenal. He enjoyed working on cars, playing the guitar and singing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Sherry Fahrenkrug; sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Sue Souder, Michael and Wendi Fahrenkrug, all of Davenport, IA; seven grandsons, one granddaughter; one great granddaughter; sisters, Joyce Souder, Springfield, MO, Joann (Wayne) Anderson, Ava, MO, Dixie Phipps, Springfield, MO; brothers, Roy Souder, Larry Shelton, both of Springfield, MO, Ben Jay Shelton, Squires, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Souder Shelton and Lloyd Souder; his grandparents, Roseman and Woodson Young, who raised Robert; and his Uncle Doyle.

CALVIN K. THOMAS
July 25, 1953 - July 26, 2003

Cemetery: Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport
Celebration of Life services for Calvin K. Thomas, 50, of East Moline, Illinois, will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
Mr. Thomas died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Calvin had a second chance at life when he received a heart transplant on August 15, 1986. He was the 4th heart transplant recipient at the University of Iowa, and was blessed to have been the longest-surviving heart transplant recipient to date there.
In appreciation for the tremendous care given to Calvin there, the family requests that memorials be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Cardiology Department, Iowa City, Iowa.
Calvin Keith Thomas was born July 25, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Emil L. and Camilla (Wallace) Thomas. He was a gifted educator, and enjoyed inspiring his students to learn and better themselves.
Active in the community, Calvin also enjoyed working with the youth and inspiring them to be their best. He was a vital part of METRO Youth Group, serving as treasurer of the Executive Board of METRO. He also served on the Call-To-Action Committee through the Rock Island-Milan School District. Calvin was an extended team member of Parents Support Network in Rock Island, and was a member of the Iowa Branch NAACP.
Some of Calvin’s many interests included collecting Lionel trains, traveling, listening to jazz music, and playing Pokeno with his friends and family.
Those who remain to honor his memory include his daughter, Marcal Thomas, Evanston, Illinois; his mother, Camilla Thomas, sisters Cathy J. Thomas and Cheryl M. Thomas, all of Davenport; nieces Christina M. Thomas, Davenport, and Heather M. Taylor, Houston, Texas; a nephew, Todd L. Thomas, Bettendorf; a very special friend, Carmen Hoppenjan, Rock Island, Illinois; his best friend and “brother”, Tad Birditt, Coal Valley, Illinois; 4 great-nieces, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Calvin’s father Emil Thomas and his brother Cornelius M. Thomas preceded him in death.

Rev. Lacey W. Davis, 84, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, July 28, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 1st at Third Missionary Baptist Church, 222 W. 14th St., Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 31st at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Greater Faith Baptist Church.
Rev. Davis was born December 24, 1918 in Clarksville, Missouri to Herman and Helen (Hobbs) Davis. He married Mary D. Givens August 31, 1985, in Louisanna, Missouri.
He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He served as an Associate Pastor with Greater Faith Baptist Church, Davenport. His kindness and faith touched many people.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WW II.
Survivors include his wife Mary, daughter and son-in-law Linda and Christopher Bennett, Aurora, Illinois, daughter Barbara F. Harvey, Twinsburg, Ohio, sons William Minor, Jr., Moberly, Missouri, Stephen Minor, Davenport, David Minor, Davenport, John L. Davis, Venice, California and Gary L. Davis, Gary, Indiana, sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Bobbie Minor, Louisanna, Missouri, Donnie and Richelle Minor, Naperville, Illinois, Dwight Davis and Pamela Anderson, Rock Island, Illinois, and five grandchildren.
