Mrs. Edward R. Weerts, 97, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Iowa. Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, February 13, at 10:00 AM at the Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
Esther C. Flesner was born in Golden, Illinois, June 4, 1906 the daughter of George W. and Minnie (Eber) Flesner. She met Edward R. Weerts the first day in second grade and they were life long sweethearts. They were married August 1, 1925 in Blue Island, Illinois. They together graduated from Worsham (Funeral) College in Chicago, Illinois. She was one of the youngest women funeral directors in Illinois. They established family funeral homes in Golden, LaSalle-Peru and Tonica, in Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf, in Iowa. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Weerts was active in many civic, cultural, church and charitable organizations in each community including the Davenport YWCA, Bettendorf Women's Club, St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, St. Paul Lutheran Church and 4-H. She had been a member of The Outing Club, The Davenport Club and National Selected Morticians, and retained her memberships in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf, a Life-member of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, and an Honorary-member of the Scott County 4-H. Her quest for knowledge was stimulated by her membership in Questors and that was a real joy for her. She retained her keen mind, her faith, and her dignity, right up to the end.
Memorials may be made to Quad-City Symphony, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Quad-City Chapter, American Red Cross.
Surviving her are a daughter, Mary Sue Ann Weerts, Stratham, New Hampshire; two sons, E. Robert (Karen) Weerts, Centennial, Colorado, and James F. Weerts, Bettendorf. Also six grandchildren: Richard Weerts, Jody Collentine, Libby Whitmore, Kitty O'Sullivan, Suzanne Weerts, and Gina Wand; and eight Great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. (Bert) Dorothy Lewis, Fullerton, California; and a brother, Wilbur Flesner, Golden, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Mrs. (Lewis) Verna Buss, and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Weerts.
Her family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers and friends Marie Verbraak and Pete Lehman.

Sondra R. "San" Culberson, 45, of Davenport, Iowa, died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 12 noon Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Pentecostal Church of God, Davenport. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday until service time at the church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
San was born October 27, 1958 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Richard W. and Ruby Lee (Johnson) Culberson. For the last eight years she was a cook for the Rhythm City Casino, Davenport. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a role model and mother figure to all.
Survivors include daughter, Shawna and son, Shawn, both at home; grandson, DaShawndric Grandberry; sisters, Vera Rush of Metropolis, IL, Angela (Mrs. Robert) Daily, Gwenevere Culberson, Glendora Demps, all of Davenport and Kimberly (Mrs. James) Pastor of St. Louis, MO; brother, Steven (and Lisa) Culberson; mother, Ruby Culberson; grandfather, Charlie (and Lois) Johnson, all of Davenport; a host of nieces, nephews, God-children, and a special friend, Vicki Jones of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her father, both grandmothers, an aunt and a cousin.

S. Jayne Kuhl, 81, of Park View, Iowa died Monday, February 2, 2004 at her home. Celebration of Life services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 6th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 5-8:00 P.M. Thursday, February 5th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park View Lutheran Church, Eldridge, Iowa.
Mrs. Kuhl was born August 23, 1922 in Springfield, Illinois to Otto F. and Lola B. (Spayd) Bredemeyer. She married Vernon Kuhl August 5, 1972 in Davenport. Prior to her marriage, she served with the U.S. Navy as a radioman during WW II. She worked as a switch board operator at the former Moline Lutheran Hospital, retiring in 1972 when she married Vern. She was active in the Park View Lutheran Church, served many years as superintendent of the Fine Arts Department of the Mississippi Valley Fair, was an avid seamstress, a great Iowa fan, and doll collector.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon; daughters, Genie Otero and Jacqualyn Hueser, both of Davenport, and Diane Hermann of Eldridge; sons, David Lipe of E. Moline, and Gerald Kuhl of North Liberty, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Akyah. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Eileen, and a son, Michael.

Betty Sieb, 85, of Bettendorf and formerly of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 9 at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Visitation will be 2-5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 8 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the memorial fund of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Sieb was born June 25, 1918 in Davenport to John and Margaret (Mahan) Soller. She married Walter Sieb October 1, 1949 in Davenport. Betty graduated from Davenport High School in 1936 and attended Augustana College. Prior to her marriage she was employed in the editorial department of the former Daily Times, now known as the Quad-City Times.
She has devoted much of her adult life to volunteer work. She was past president of the former St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, donating over 18,000 hours in volunteer service at St. Luke's/ Genesis East Medical Center. She was a 60 year member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on the Board of Deacons; a member of Chapter GW PEO-IHN Circle of Kings Daughters and the Outing Club. Until recently, she was active in the Miss Iowa Pageant, serving on the Board of Directors.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; sisters, Jean Youngberg of Davenport, and Mary Gruhl of Bettendorf; nephews, John Gruhl and his wife Sybil of Lincoln, NE, and Eric Sieb of Phoenix; nieces, Nancy (Mrs. Pat) Gillespie of Raleigh, NC, Ann (Mrs. Jack) Mendelsohn of Parker, CO, Jane Gruhl and her husband Jim Schwab of Englewood, CO, and Ellyn Sieb of Plano, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Joan Sieb of Addison, TX, and a special family friend, Violet Courtney of Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John and Harry Soller, and brothers-in-law, Lester Youngberg and Dick Gruhl.

Joshua Thomas Krueger, 28, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Bettendorf, died Monday, February 9, 2004 as a result of a work-related accident at a tower site in Georgia. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 14th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery, Reynolds, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family.
Joshua was born February 21, 1975 in Lansing, Michigan to Carl and Leslie (McKelvey) Krueger. He was a 1993 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Massage Therapy as a registered massage therapist. He currently was a cell site tower specialist for Insight Communications in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a sketch artist, enjoyed reading, but most of all loved his family.
Survivors include his mother, Leslie Krueger-Soucinek of Bettendorf; his father, Carl Krueger and his wife, Sharon, of Duluth, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Timothy Steines of Moline, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Karen Krueger of York, Pennsylvania; grandparents, William McKelvey and Clara Mae Harrison of Reynolds, Illinois; step-sister and her husband, Karmen and Russell Brown of Davenport; step-brother and his wife, Derek and Kelli Wyble of Carrollton, Georgia; a niece, Madison, and nephews, Tyler, Riley, Tyler B., Rusty, Dalton and Dylan; aunts, uncles and cousins. Sharon L. Moenck, 60, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, February 6th, at her residence. Committal service will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 13th at The Memorial Chapel in Pine Hill Cemetery, 1530 E. 39th St., Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or WQPT Public Television, Moline, Illinois. Sharon was born August 25, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa to Harry L. and Lois G. (Anderson) Keller. She was principal clerk for the City of Davenport City Works Department. Sharon had a special place in her heart for animals and rescued many strays.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Wayne Brouhard, Kathleen and Russell Finkler, all of Davenport, and Lori Keller-Morrissey and her husband James Morrissey of Bishop Hill, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Joyce Keller of Davenport; seven nieces and nephews; three grand nieces and nephews; father, Harry Keller of Bettendorf; and her cat, Tuffy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois, in 1997.

F. Raymond Michael, 68, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Fejervary Health Care, Davenport, Iowa. There will be no services. A memorial gathering will be held 3-5:00 P.M. Monday, February 16th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.
Ray was born August 10, 1935 in Stockton, California to Francis Raymond Michael I and Essie (Fraiser) Michael. He was in the National Guard Reserves. He married Karen Robinson May 5, 1972 in Bettendorf.
For 40 years he owned a business of sales and service of industrial batteries.
Survivors include daughters, Angie Moss and Alison Michael, both of Davenport; sons, Samual Michael of Davenport, Jeffrey Michael of Reynolds, Illinois, and Francis
Michael III of Davenport; and grandchildren Alexis and Madeline.

A. Lois Erps, 87, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Silvercrest Assisted Living, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 P.M. Mrs. Erps was born March 2, 1917 in Walcott to Clarence and Adaline (Peterson) Knaack. She married William F. Erps, Sr. September 9, 1936 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He died January 18, 1978.
She was a personal banking officer with the former Davenport Bank and Trust for 25 years, retiring July 1, 1990. She was an avid bowler and card player. Her memberships included Women of the Moose, Royal Neighbors, of which she was a 72 year member in 2000, and a charter member of RNA juveniles; Eagles, N.W. Turner Auxiliary, AARP, Women's International Bowling Congress, Liedertaufel, CASI, and the Quad Cities Plus 60.
Survivors include daughter, Marilyn Depew of Leesburg, Florida, son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Joan Erps of Walcott; grandchildren, Sheila (Mrs. Rusty) Gillespie of Kennesaw, Georgia, Rhonda Erps of N. Aurora, Illinois, and Brenda (Mrs. Brad) Zogg of Durant; great-grandchildren, Brett Gillespie of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Molly and William Zogg of Durant, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Donald and Kenneth Knaack, son-in-law, Samuel Depew, grandson, Stephen May, and great-granddaughter, Kathryn Gillespie.

Don was born April 25, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa the son of Donald D. and Marion (Koos) Cook..
Don worked construction as a laborer with the Quad City Local #309. He graduated from West High School, Davenport, in 1974.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed water sports.
Don's survivors include his mother, Marion Cook, Davenport, IA; his brothers and their wives, LTC. (retired) Charles and Astrid Hicks, Chester, VA, Richard and Brenda Hicks, Costa Rica, Calvin and Diana Hicks, Auburn WA, and Uncle Peter and Sharon Koos.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald D. Cook, and a brother, Clifford Hicks.

Mrs. White was born June 29, 1909 near Glendale, Putnam County, Missouri to Frances and Fannie (Baker) Gillaspie. She married Harry F. White June 30, 1929 in Kirksville, Missouri. He died August 21, 1972.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, quilting, and her church. She tended the church nursery for over 45 years.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jim Gerboth of LeClaire, Iowa, and Imogene and Dennis Meredith of Bettendorf; son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Nancy White of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters, three brothers, one great-grandchild, granddaughter-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

Wendell D. Dorn, 91, of Davenport, Iowa died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 12th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Dorn was born September 7, 1912 in Adair, Iowa to Harry and Eva (Law) Dorn. He married Evelyn Bayless June 14, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WW II.
Mr. Dorn was a sales representative for BASF, retiring in 1968 after more than 25 years. Following his retirement from BASF, he and Evelyn owned and operated Crabtree Printing and Office Supply in Atlantic, Iowa. Upon selling their business, they relocated to their home on Lake Okoboji where he enjoyed his boating and golfing hobbies. His memberships included the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and the Elks. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed golfing, boating and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Davenport; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Gary Arp, and Barb and Dan Millage, all of Bettendorf; Debra and Harry Schmidt of Englewood, Colorado, and Becky and Dennis Crisler of Caney, Kansas; grandchildren, Sarah Arp, Jennifer and Carl Stocks, Douglas and Amanda Arp, Melissa Millage, Tim Millage and his fiance Kim Kelly, Matt Millage, Ashley Schmidt, Collin Schmidt, Stacie Crisler, Derek Crisler and his fiance Kristy Price; and a great-grandchild, J.C. Stocks. Mr. Dorn was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

Bette Sparks Griffin, 82, of Bettendorf, Iowa died Monday, March 8, 2004 at her residence, Palmer Hills Retirement Center. No public services will be held. Inurnment will be in Evansville, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Griffin was born march 12, 1921 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Carl and Mary (Bevier) Sparks. She married John L. Griffin February 27, 1942 in Champaign, Illinois. He died March 9, 1998. Following her graduation from the University of Wisconsin, she and her husband owned and managed Central Acceptance Corporation, a finance business.
Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Steve Bazarnick of Amsterdam, New York; nephews, Thomas Bazarnick and Robert Bazarnick, and niece, Elizabeth Bazarnick; and special friends, Mary Jeanne and Roger Gerdes of DeWitt, Iowa.

Eugene "Gene" Moore, 56, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, March 8, 2004 at Trinity At Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 12th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 11th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Gene was born September 20, 1947 in Davenport to Vincent and Lois (Speth) Moore. He married Judy Bamberry August 11, 1973 in Long Grove, Iowa. He graduated with the class of 66 from North Scott H.S. and in 1978 from St.Ambrose University. He served with the U. S. Air Force from 1966-1970.
Gene worked for over twenty years with Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company. For the past eight years, he was employed as an independent lighting representative. In the past year he formed and operated GM Lighting. Gene served as President of the Davenport Jaycees and Silvis Optimists. He was very active in Jaycee Santa and helped organize the first wheelchair basketball program in the Quad-Cities. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, playing volleyball, and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Judy and daughter, Amber Moore, both of Davenport; son, Greg Moore of Lone Tree, Colorado; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Gary Long of Eldridge; brothers, Art Moore and Harold Moore, both of Davenport; his parents, Vincent and Lois Moore of Davenport and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends, including his best friend, Joe "Tim" Gogulich of Silvis, Illinois. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Moore.

Frank D. Grossman, 86, of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Davenport Lutheran Home. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 13th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 5-7:00 P.M. Friday, March 12th at the funeral home. Interment will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois 9:30 A.M. Monday morning. All wishing to attend should meet at Weerts Funeral Home 9:00 A.M. Monday. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice Care of VNA.
Mr. Grossman was born January 28, 1918 in Savannah, Georgia to Oscar and Sarah (Kramer) Grossman. He married Helen Lotz September 6, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II, and had attained the rank of Colonel before completing his military service.
He was an engineer/ project manager for Weapons Command, Rock Island Arsenal. Previously he worked at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. and, in later years, as a Greeter at Weerts Funeral Home. He was a church elder and former pastor of RLDS church. His memberships included NARFE, of which he was a past president, AARP, the former St. Luke's Auxiliary, and Befrienders Hospice. He enjoyed raising orchids and African violets.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Davenport; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Robin Cross of Kansas City, Missouri;, son and daughter-in-law, Glenn D. and Jan Grossman of Little Rock, Arkansas, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and sisters, Doris Shlaer of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Betty Isenberg of Augusta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Severin, Frances 87, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center West Campus, Davenport.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
Frances was born February 8, 1917 to Francis Vincent and Lettie Leona Kelley Fitzgibbon. She married Jack Don Severin on April 16, 1960 in Camdenton, Missouri. He preceded her in 1964.
Frances was a record clerk at K-Mart, Harbor City, California for 25 years retiring in 1981.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Iowa
Survivors include her sister, Darlene E. Mizlo, Bettendorf, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Eugene and Lynn Fitzgibbon, Davenport, Iowa and Carl and Sally Biggs, Glendora, California. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1964 and a son, Clark, October 31, 1987.
