Harry Raymond (Ray) Roberts, 83, a resident of Ridgecrest Village, Davenport, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Ridgecrest Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 548, Walcott.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
Ray was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Harry Ervin Roberts and Grace Mae (Pabst) Roberts.
He was a 1938 graduate of Hannibal High School and a 1940 graduate of Hannibal-LaGrange College, where he received an associate in education degree. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Miller, his high school sweetheart, on Nov. 25, 1945, in Hannibal, Mo.
Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army in June of 1942. He served with the 315th Infantry, 79th Division in Europe during World War II from April of 1944 through September of 1945.
He received the Infantry Combat Badge, a European Theatre Operation Ribbon with 3 battle stars, a Victory Medal, a Purple Heart with cluster and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a First Sergeant at the time of discharge.
Ray worked for Lee Enterprises for nearly 40 years, starting Aug. 20, 1940, in the classified advertising department at the Hannibal Courier-Post.
Ray moved to Davenport in May 1947 and was a retail advertising sales representative at the Davenport Democrat and Leader before moving to the Daily Times in December 1951.
He was named retail advertising manager at the Times-Democrat in March 1970 and retired from the Quad-City Times on Jan. 1, 1979. He then worked as a sales representative at The Daily Dispatch, Moline, from 1979 to 1984.
Ray was an active member of First Christian Church, Davenport, where he had served many years as a board member, deacon and elder and was appointed Elder Emeritus in July 1994.; American Legion Post 548, Walcott; and several newspaper and civic groups.
Ray was well liked by all who knew him. He always encouraged others in their pursuits. He loved people, especially children. He was a dedicated husband.
He was a big sports fan, often flipping between several games on TV while listening to another game on the radio. He was an especially big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He attended his sons' and, later, his grandchildrens' baseball and football games whenever possible. He will be missed when family members play board games during the holidays.
Ray enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and cards, as well as participating in ball games with his sons and their children in earlier years. People teased him about a time he ran through some hedges while carrying the ball during a backyard football game.
He was very proud of a book of his World War II memoirs and a front-page Leader article in which it was featured. He enjoyed communicating with grandchildren and old friends via e-mail.
Ray is survived by wife; his sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Sherry Roberts, Walcott, Iowa, and Bruce and Faith Roberts, Champaign, Ill.; seven grandchildren and spouses, Andrea and Mike Schmidt, Davenport; Brendan and Heather Roberts, St. Peters, Mo.; Clinton Roberts, Minneapolis, Minn.; Dane Roberts, Walcott, Iowa; Grant Roberts, Kent, Ohio; Blake Roberts, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Italy; Brittany Roberts, Chicago, Ill.; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kelley and Harrison Schmidt, all of Davenport; and Pierce and Cade Roberts, St. Peters, Mo.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jean Long, in September 1993 and a grandchild, Alisa Lyn Roberts, in May 1972.

Mary Virginia "Ginger" Iossi, of Bettendorf, Iowa died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 18th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, IA. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial service at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 19th at St. John's United Methodist Church, Davenport. Mary Virginia was born October 17, 1928, in South English, Iowa to Harry and Eva (Smith) Coffman. She married Herbert A. Iossi April 17, 1955, in Davenport, Iowa.
Ginger was a teacher for 35 years with the Davenport School System. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church; the Genesis Auxiliary for over forty years; a volunteer with the Mississippi River Valley Blood Center, Davenport; and the Republican Womens Organization.
She enjoyed being with her family, volunteering and taking adventurous walks.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert of Bettendorf; daughters and sons-in-law, Cyndy and Dean Bunting of Bettendorf and Lisa and Thomas Fennelly of Davenport; daughter, Jennifer Iossi of Davenport; son, Jeff Iossi of Davenport; grandchildren,
Danielle, Ashley, Matt, Seth, Greg, Haley, Nick, Erin, Austin, Grace and Mary Kate; sister, Lois Coffman of Greeley, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond "Skip" and Barbara Coffman of Kalona, Iowa; and brother, George Coffman of Riverside, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Kate Iossi, and a daughter-in-law, Anne Iossi.

She was born January 11, 1947, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Harry A. and Viola H. (Day) Rasmussen. She married Mark Martin March 8, 1996, in Davenport, Iowa.
Patsy was an ordained minister and founder of the Angel Food Ministries. Patsy was dedicated to spreading the gospel through song and the word of Jesus Christ by the power of God, and through the anointing of the Holy Spirit came healing and salvation. God brought his uplifting message through Patsy to congregations of all denominations, crusades, concerts, nursing homes, homeless shelters, to the lost youth and drug rehabs. Lives were changed. Patsy knew Christ as her personal Savior and she submitted her life to Christ. Patsy's only goal in life was to see people of all ages accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, and for them to know how much Jesus loves them. Patsy would always say "as long as God is lifted up, that hearts would be blessed and souls would come to know the Salvation of Jesus Christ".

She was born May 30, 1901, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of John and Emma (Hansen) Owens. She married George E. Ochsner on September 10, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her October 1, 1970.
Mabel was a housewife, who for a time, was employed at the former Independent Baking Company of Davenport.
She was member of the Unitarian Church, Davenport Woman of the Moose, Davenport Eagles and Elks Auxillary.
Survivors include her sister, Lorraine Campbell, Davenport,IA; Special nieces, Elaine Kresse, Davenport, IA; Shelly Cilek, Iowa City, IA; and additional nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian De Jong and Ella Ayers Donovan; three brothers, John, Albert and Raymond.

Judith was born April 24, 1962 in Southbridge, Massachusetts o Krystian and Shirley (Collette) Uwazany. She married James "Jeff" Windham December 1, 1990 in Davenport. She graduated from University of Lowell, Lowell, Massachusetts with a BS degree in chemical engineering. Since 1988 she worked as a safety engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal. Previously she worked in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff of Bettendorf; brothers, John and Christopher Uwazany, parents, Krystian and Shirley Uwazany, and a niece, Sarah Uwazany, all of Southbridge, Massachusetts.

Harley L. Walker, 80, of Princeton, Iowa, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 5th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 1-4 P.M. Sunday, April 4th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Princeton Presbyterian Church or the Princeton Fire Department.
Mr. Walker was born June 22, 1923 in Bucklin, Missouri to William H. and Ethel Anna (Johnson) Walker. He married Patricia Taber March 4, 1972 in Revere, Missouri. He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during WW II, attaining the rank of Corporal.
He worked in the maintenance department of Alcoa for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
Previously, he worked with the former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric for ten years. He was a member of Princeton Presbyterian Church, Bettendorf VFW #9128, the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post #347, and a member of Local #105, United Steel Workers of America. He also enjoyed woodworking, helping others, and especially being with his family.
Survivors include his wife Pat, of Princeton; daughters, Barbara (William) Gray of Hurdland, Missouri, Patricia Walker of Bettendorf, Linda (Mike) Cameron of Brashear, Missouri, Jackie (Lee) Holden of Eldridge and Patti Donahue (Dale Trout) of McCausland; sons, Harley (Valerie) Walker Jr. of Knox City, Missouri, Stevan Walker of Rock Falls, Illinois; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Dorothy) Walker of Greeley, Colorado and John (Sarah) Walker of Hale, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Celebration of Life Services for Elvina E. Hanssen, 88, of Davenport, will be held 1 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at the Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, with Rev. Ron Huber officiating. The family will greet friends from 11 AM until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
Mrs. Hanssen died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Davenport Good Samaritan Home.

Elvina Elsie Eckhardt was born January 6, 1916 in Oakville, Iowa, a daughter of Alvin and Margaret (Attig) Eckhardt. On July 31, 1937, Elvina was united in marriage to Walter L. Hanssen in Valparaiso, IN. Mr. Hanssen preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Melvin Harper in 1989. He died in 1992.
She worked for 17 years as a Registered Nurse at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport. Following her retirement from nursing, she enjoyed being a clerk at Kimberly True Value Hardware in Davenport for 14 years.
Elvina was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star - Trinity Chapter #541, Amaranth, Cauldron, and a member of the Retirement Club of Mercy Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Erlinda and Ed Kane, Bettendorf; sons and daughters in law, Walter and Janice Hanssen, Stuart, Florida; Henry and Bobbi Hanssen and Edward and Connie Hanssen, all of Davenport; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husbands, Elvina was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Susan Rasmussen, 1 sister and two brothers.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Davenport Good Samaritan and the Visiting Nurses for their special care.

Marjorie Elaine Nesmith was born August 26, 1922 in Lincoln, Nebraska, a daughter of George E. and Ida Fae (Pearson) Nesmith. She graduated from Des Moines North High School in 1940. On May 1, 1943, Marjorie was united in marriage to Mark A. Hanick in Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Hanick preceded her in death May 11, 2003.
She worked for 20 years as bookkeeper for Bettendorf Community Schools, retiring in 1983.
Marjorie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Bettendorf Retirees, St. Anthony's Circle, and Forever Young. She also was a past member of the Bettendorf School Board.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Hanick, Davenport; sons and daughters in law, Kevin and Pat Hanick, Iowa City, IA and Kelly and Melanie Hanick, Orlando, FL; a son in law, Dr. Michael Reddy of Waukesha, WI; and 11 grandchildren: Cory Mettee; Susan Hart; Riley, Conor, and Emmet Hanick; Emily, Benjamin, Molly and Carybeth Reddy; and Andrea and Kate Hanick.
In addition to her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Reddy; 2 sisters, Doris Voelker and Betty Nesmith; and a brother, George Nesmith.

George Glenn Jensen, 75, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at his residence.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 7, 2004, at Cedar Memorial Christian Church, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport.

George was born August 23, 1928, in Webster County, Iowa, the son of Giva May (Wheeling) and Alfred A. Jensen. He married Mary Ellen June Rhodes on July 3, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa.
George was a graduate of Otho High School in Otho, Iowa in 1945. He later graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1951. He served in the United States Navy.
He worked as a blacksmith, a machinist and a welder. George was owner of Jensen Machine and Welding in Davenport from 1969 to the present.
George was an Elder at Cedar Memorial Christian Church, a member for more than 50 years; Iowa Blacksmith and Welders Association; National Blacksmith and Welders Association; American Welding Society; Gideon's International; Rock Island Conservation Club and was a former Boy Scout leader.
He collected antique trains, taught Sunday school at church and worked with the youth group. He was always helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen June Jensen; daughters, Karen K. Jensen, Davenport, IA, Patricia A. (William) Swanson, South Lyon, MI; sons, Kris P. (Karen S.) Jensen, Lawrenceville, GA, Karl K. (Linda) Jensen, Davenport, IA; eight grandchildren, Debra, Melissa, Glenn, Mark and Andrew Jensen, Mitchell, Charles and Rachael Swanson; brothers, Beryl Jensen, Ft Dodge, IA, Oliver (Wayne) Jensen, Davenport, IA.; special friends, his dogs, Peapot, Tigger, Pooh, and Danny.
George was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James.
