Helen R. Eberle, 78, of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, American Diabetes Association, Genesis VNA, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She was born November 21, 1925, in Clinton, Iowa to L.A. and Adeline (Holle) Huber. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1943 and the University of Iowa in 1947. Helen Huber married Jack Eberle on August 24, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa.
She was a teacher of language arts and social studies at Davenport West High School for 23 years and from 1963-1965 was a fifth grade teacher at McKinley School. She also had been a substitute teacher in the Muscatine Schools.
Her interests included her grandkids, music, literature, history, old movies, theater, especially musical theater, sports, and crosswords.
Her memberships included St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, where she had been a church school and confirmation teacher in earlier years, Davenport and Iowa State Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, and the University of Iowa Alumni Association.
Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter, Sue Eberle, Des Moines, Iowa.; two sons, Phillip (Linda) Eberle, Racine, Wisconsin; and Richard (Karen) Eberle, Sioux City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Eric (Heather), Micah, Kurt, Jenni, Anna, Chris, Sarah, and Zachariah; and one great-granddaughter, Zoe Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Russell, Eugene, and George Huber.

Shirley Louise Thorngren was born on May 15, 1923 the daughter of Walter Albin Thorngren and Florence Muriel (Jacobson) Thorngren. She married James W. Otis February 24, 1944 in Moline, Illinois. He died January 14, 2001.
She was a homemaker.
Her interests included her family, her church, tennis and she enjoyed writing poetry.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Karen and Shawn McGill, Atkinson, Illinois; sons and daughters in law, Michael W. and Donna Otis, Des Moines, Iowa and Rev. Tom and Carlene Otis Davenport, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Bill and Betty Throngren, Sarasota, Florida; sisters and brother in laws, Betty Hufford, Moline, and Jan and Ted McElhiney, LeClaire, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Walter Thorngren Jr.

Verna Josephine (Rock) Laing, 88, of Blue Grass, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 19th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 3-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 18th at the church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Beacon Hill Hospice, or to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Verna Meyer was born March 16, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Fahrenkrog) Meyer. She married Alvin Rock on September 15, 1937 in Davenport. He died in 1969. She married John Laing on July 19, 1978.
Mrs. Laing was a homemaker and retired from Kimberly Barn Floral. She was a member of the church and was a church befriender. She was also a member of Pythian Sisters, King's Daughters and she was a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her family, quilting, and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include her husband, John; daughter, Deanna (Darwin) Paulsen of Durant; son, Keith (Pam) Rock of Blue Grass; stepdaughters, Jean Laing of Norfolk, Nebraska, Julie (Jerry) Paisley of Clinton; stepson, John Jr. (Kathy) Laing of Park View; grandchildren, Craig, Todd and Kent Gehrls, Jodee Tippet, Brent and Jason Rock, and Brad TeBrake; step-grandchildren, Brian, Jennifer and Megan Laing, Justin and Jeremy Paisley, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Huffman was born March 5, 1919 in Crutchfield, North Carolina to Numa Shimer and Nettie A. (Norman) Reece. She married Rev. Charles Huffman June 9, 1940 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was a homemaker who worked as an Avon representative for many years. She also volunteered at Iowa Veterans' Home in Marshalltown. Her memberships included First Baptist Church, Davenport, American Baptist Women and Christian Education youth work.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, Ridgecrest Village, Davenport; daughter, Lois Scott of Davenport; sons, James (Lora) Huffman of Long Grove, Iowa and John (Joy) Huffman of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Robert and Richard Scott, Shawn, Rachael and Phillip Huffman, Heather Huffman and Johanna Stoltenberg; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie Costello, Bernice (Rex) Heard, and Jessie Reece. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson, Gregory Huffman.

Mary W. Stucker was born December 29, 1914 to William C.and Hannah (Moehlman) Stucker on the family farm near Pleasant Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Danville High School in 1931. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa). She taught school in Iowa until 1939, when she moved to Davenport to attend the American Institute of Commerce. While going to school, she worked at the original Bishop's Cafeteria in Davenport.
In 1942 she moved to Los Angeles, California and worked for the L.A. Times. She met James H. Shovar, and they were married on August 17, 1945 in Los Angeles, California when he returned from the South Pacific. After they were married, Mary worked at Orange County Newspapers from 1943-1950. After her four children were born, her love of books and reading led to a position as a librarian at the Tustin Library. She loved her job there and worked at the library for many years.
In 1964 they returned to the Midwest and lived in Edgington, Illinois. While living there she helped establish a library in Andalusia and wrote "Home on the River", a history of Andalusia. In 1975 they moved back to Davenport where she enjoyed gardening, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. She had a true love of learning and attended Elder Hostels and Comm University for many years.
Jim died October 16, 1995 shortly after they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. In 2001 Mary moved to Ridgecrest Village where she made many new friends and enjoyed both the activities and volunteering.
Mary was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 30 years. She loved life and helping others. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Kenneth Schultz of Moline, IL; daughter, M. Nicolette Shovar of Danville, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Peggy Shovar of Andalusia, IL and Scott and Jane Shovar of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Ashley (Douglas) Rudolph, Matthew Shultz, Alex and David Edmon, Ryan (Chris), Travis (Tracy), and Erin Shovar, and Cassandra Shovar; great-grandchild, Alexandra Mary Rudolph; step-great-grandson, Jacob John Lutkenhaus brother and sister-in-law Dwight and Nettie Stucker, Danville, IA; and sister-in-law, Kathryn (Darvin) Schroeder.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Patty Thomas, and a brother, Wayne.

Andrew J. "Andy" Cinkovich, 96, of Davenport, Iowa died Sunday, August 15,2004 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 20th at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 Fillmore St., Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be 5-8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 19th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where graveside military services will be conducted by Davenport American Legion Post #26. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
Mr. Cinkovich was born November 10, 1907 in Cincinnati, Iowa to Stephen and Boza (Kozeliski) Cinkovich. He married Alice L. Eriksen November 20, 1948 in Davenport. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, for 39 months.
Mr. Cinkovich was an accordion teacher, teaching with Saas Brothers Music Co. for several years. Later he owned Davenport Accordion Studio where he and his wife Alice gave lessons for many years. He was also an assembler at John Deere Plow and Planter Works. His memberships included Holy Family Church, Davenport, Croatian Crest Club, Moline, and Davenport American Legion Post #26. He enjoyed his grandchildren, music, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Davenport; daughter Deborah (Dennis) Thoene of Davenport; grandchildren, Thomas O'Hare, Timothy O'Hare, Tara Thoene, Travis Thoene; step-grandchildren, Nichole Martin and Dennis Thoene; great-granddaughter, Destiny O'Hare; sisters, Ann Wika, Helen Erasmus, and Kay (Ray) Matuszewski, all of Chicago, Delores (Tom) Cortesio and Lucille Cinkovich and brother, John Cinkovich, all of Centerville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Anna Cinkovich, brothers, Frank, Fobie and Charles Cinkovich; and sisters, Albina Selva and Mary Thompson.

Ms. Minard was born July 13, 1905 in Kladno, Czechoslovakia to Thomas Sr. and Marie Stephanie (Soukup) Minard. She attended Davenport Public Schools and St. Ambrose College. She retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Davenport, as District Traffic Instructor, after more than 49 years of service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Davenport; Davenport Chapter #178, Order of the Eastern Star; Oriental White Shrine of Jerusalem; Daughters of the Nile; American Legion Auxiliary; 21 Club- Telephone Pioneers; Royal Neighbors of America; a former member of Mt. Ida Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where she taught beginners in Sunday School for 35 years; and a former member of Business & Professional Women's Club.
Survivors include brother, Robert Minard and a sister, Jarmille A. Minard, both of Bettendorf; niece, Jean Anne (John) Ihle of Muscatine; great nieces, Julie Anne Ihle of Muscatine, Jean Rene (James) Soucie of Wheaton, Illinois, and Deborah (Tom) Montalta of St. Anne, Illinois; great nephews, John F. Martha Rae Cochran, daughter of Samuel Clayton Cochran and Nellie Mary (Higgs) Cochran, was born May 13, 1910, in Owensboro, Kentucky. She married Justin E. Thielke October 20, 1934, at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2000.
Mrs. Thielke was a member of Chapter JS, PEO Sisterhood, and First Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where she was leader of Girl Scout Troop 89 for eleven years and a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Mrs. Thielke is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dan Eckstein, Davenport; her granddaughters, Brooke Longlett, Britt Rogers, Michele Larson, Melissa Larson and Amy Larson; and six great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Michael, Logan, Shelby, Hunter and Marissa.

Margaret was born July 17, 1916 in Fairbury, Illinois the daughter of David S. and Irene Jane Philhour. She married Robert L. Lambert October 18, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. He died August 15, 1998.
Margaret and her husband, Robert, lived for over twenty-five years in the Woodhull and Alpha, Illinois area where they raised their four children, Bob, Jim, Sue and Michael. She retired from a
long career as an accountant with Woodhull Land Development Corporation. Since 1998, Margaret has lived at the Palmer Hills Retirement Residence, Bettendorf.
Mrs. Lambert is survived by her children and their spouses, Bob and Sally Lambert, Bettendorf;
Jim and Tina Lambert, Wichita, Kansas; Sue and Chuck Fish, Dallas Texas; and Michael and Susan Lambert, Winnetka, Illinois; her grandchildren, John, David, Alex, Andrew and Paul Lambert and John (and Heidi) Haessler, and her great grandchildren, Jordyn and Abgail.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters and her husband, Robert.

Richard Joseph Ermalovich passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2004, at home in Davenport, Iowa. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at St. Vincent Ferrer, 1087 E. Gardenia Avenue, Madison Heights, Michigan 48071. Luncheon following at The Gazebo Restaurant, 13 mile and Mound Road in Warren, Michigan. Memorials may be made to The Amish Farm of the Hostettler Family (21374 Pealer Mill Road, Danville, Ohio 43014) or to the Figge Art Museum (1737 West 12th St, Davenport, Iowa 52804). Born in Holden, West Virginia, on September 9, 1941, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Marro) Ermalovich He was the eldest of seven children and a graduate of Osborn High School and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He married Shirley Mahut and had a daughter, Thea, who was the light of his life. He partnered with his siblings in establishing Diamond Paint Systems, a spray booth manufacturing company in Detroit, and most recently AeroPro, a major aircraft stripping and painting company in California. His true occupation was his lifelong spiritual quest. He was raised as a Roman Catholic, but as an adult joined the I AM Community and took a life-changing trip to India. His mission in life was to spread love and truth, and thus was a spiritual teacher to many who were blessed to cross his path.
He is survived by his beloved life partner, Linda Downs of Davenport, Iowa; beloved daughter, Thea Marie Ermalovich; beloved mother, Mary Ermalovich; beloved brothers, Joseph and Anthony Ermalovich; beloved sisters, Catherine Druia, Maria Moran and Elizabeth Lassman; beloved aunt Rose Polinori, beloved uncles, Anthony, John, and Joseph Marro; and beloved nephews, nieces and cousins, all of Michigan, who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and a brother, Michael.

Jerome "Jerry" Willis, 52, of Ontario, California, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, losing his two year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Celebration of Life services will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 31st at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. The family will greet friends 4:30-6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
Jerry was born August 2, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa to Hugh Bryan and Jennie (Cluff) Willis. He served with the US Marine Corp. Jerry was a Special Education teacher for many years in California. He also taught English at a Catholic High School in Yokichi, Japan. He gave that up and spent the last ten years driving truck with his friend, Taiah. Jerry loved the outdoors and was an avid rock climber, an accomplished marathon runner, and swimmer. He loved hiking in the mountains with his dog, Taiah. Jerry worked so that he could play.
Survivors include daughter, Shelly Snyder of California; sisters, Linda (Pete) Bata of Davenport and Kathleen (William) Smith of Bettendorf; brother, Joseph Willis of Chino, California; father, Joe of Davenport, and nieces and nephews, Jeanette (Dean) Roman and her son Jason Tapprich, Timothy Keckler, Jeffrey Keckler and his son Jared, Rebecca Condor and her children Joshua and Kathleen, James Willis and his wife Carla and their children John and Jamie; and his special friend, his dog, Taiah Marie. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh & Regina Willis, and maternal grandparents, August and Jennie Cluff; his mother, Jennie Stonefeld, and brothers, John Timothy and Mark Andrew (February 2004.)

Stanley W. Moore, 54, of Davenport, Iowa died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held in Houston, Texas, following the local visitation 4-7:00 P.M. Friday, August 20th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Moore was born February 23, 1950 in Houston, Texas to Stanley Jr. and Lena (Jackson) Moore. He married Shirley Baker February 26, 1977 in St. Louis, Missouri. He served with the U.S. Army during VietNam, and worked as an auditor for the U.S. Army Audit Agency his entire career. He was a graduate of Texas Southern University, Houston, with a degree in accounting. He earned his Masters in finance from Webster University, St. Louis. He was a devoted husband and father, as well as a devoted volunteer to Junior Achievement. He also served as President of the local chapter of 100 Black Men, and championed the cause of mentoring young people.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Baker) Moore of Davenport; daughter, Elena Moore of Houston; son, Stanley D. Moore of Washington, DC; sister, Carolyn (Moore) Wilrich and her husband Michael of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Cassie Moore of Houston, and Ralph and Monica Moore of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roy A Goettig, 58, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 19th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 18th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch, Bethany Home, Friendly House, Student Hunger Drive or to your favorite charity.
Roy was born October 22, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa to Clarence and Virginia (Mirfield) Goettig. He married Barb Carstensen June 6, 1976 in Miles, Iowa. He was employed by the Former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. as Project Coordinator from 1964 until 1995. Most recently he was the executive director of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and Iowa Heat Pump Association (IHPA). He was a former member of the Tri County Home Builders Association, Moline Optimist Club and Davenport Jaycees. He was very civic and community minded and was active with Arrowhead Ranch and Bethany Home, to mention a few.
Survivors include his wife, Barb of Davenport; brother, Robert (Connie) Goettig of Davenport, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray.
