Norman P. Sandberg, 93, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 30, 2006, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 A.M. Monday just prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois where military honors will be conducted by Davenport VFW

Norman was born May 17, 1912, in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of Axel and Katharina (Kirsch) Sandberg. He married Katharina Mink in Munich, Germany on August 14, 1947. She preceded him in death January 15, 2005.
He received his B.A. and M.S. degrees in Education Administration from North Dakota State College in 1935 and 1953, and his PhD. in Education Administration and Guidance from Drake University in 1956. Mr. Sandberg came to Bettendorf in 1958 with the assignment of School Guidance Director. He helped organize the school guidance services and continued until retirement in 1977. He held life memberships in several educational and psychological associations.
Norman served his country in the United States Army from 1942 through 1972, active and reserve. He entered continental Europe as an infantryman by way of Omaha Beach, and was in most of the major battles. He retired from the service as a Major. On his second tour of Europe, he represented the Army as Schools Officer for the American Independent School System of Munich, Germany, which provided elementary and secondary schools for the many American families that were locating in post-war Europe.
He was a member of Bettendorf Rotary Club and Davenport VFW Post #26. He enjoyed playing in an orchestra in his early years.
Survivors include his son, Norman D. (Carol) Sandberg of LeClaire, Iowa, and two grandsons, Luke Sandberg of Princeton, Iowa, and Joe Sandberg, Le Claire.

Betty J. Hubbard, 77, of Davenport, Iowa, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at her home. Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Mrs. Hubbard was born June 1, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa to Donald and Blanche (Fenton) Gourley. She married David F. Hubbard June 12, 1954 in Bloomfield, Missouri. He died February 14, 2004. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Cedar Memorial Christian Church, and Mended Hearts Chapter #88 of Davenport, of which she had been a former secretary.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Myla Driskell and Mark Christensen of Davenport, and Carol and Bruce Bane of Blue Grass, Iowa; grandchildren, Sara Plumb, David Napier, and Brian and John Bane; and great-grandchildren, Emily Plumb and Samantha and Nicholas Napier. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne, in 1969.
The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to the Genesis VNA Hospice staff and especially Betty's nurse, Kayla.

Mr. Gardner was born July 31, 1916 in LeClaire, Iowa to Waldo Lee and Hilda (Rathmann) Gardner. He served with the U.S. Army during the European- African, and Middle Eastern Theaters of WW II, obtaining the rank of sergeant.
He was a barber at Mac's Barber Shop, Davenport, which he had owned and operated for over 40 years. His memberships included American Legion Post #26, Davenport, V.F.W. Post #828, Davenport, and AMVETS.
Survivors include cousins, Jon G. Rathmann of Las Vegas, Nevada and Linda E. Stanley of Reno, Nevada.

Mrs. Holst was born October 29, 1918 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa to Emil D. and Catherine M. (Schneckloth) Moeller. She married Arnold V. Holst December 9, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1973.
Mrs. Holst was a homemaker who was founder and past president of the Quad City Widow and Widowers Group. She volunteered for the American Red Cross at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus and the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. She was also a member of the Scott County Women’s Farm Bureau. She enjoyed her annual mother-daughter trips, quilting, flowers, dancing and family gatherings. She also enjoyed being a member of Rebekahs, Daughters of the Nile, and Silver Creek Chapter of O.E.S., and Princeton Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Kathryn and Jack Hall, LeClaire, Iowa, Ginny and Phil Corwin, Bettendorf, Iowa, Dinah and Don Wagner, Taylor Ridge, Illinois and daughter Brenda Paytash, Moline, Illinois, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, her parents, and a special friend Karl Herd.

Allyene was born March 12, 1915 in Monmouth, IL to Fred Aaron and Nelle (Bryant) Norris. She married Wallace H. Hamly on September 8, 1937 in Denver, CO.
She was a teacher for 15 years in the Rock Island County school system. She graduated with honors from Monmouth College in 1936. She was a member of Alpha Zi Delta; Crimson Mosque and Board; Mortarboard Tau Pi Honorary Society; A.A.U.W.; United Methodist Women; Northern Lights Sunday school class; and Genesis East Women’s Auxiliary. Allyene was an early activist in the 1950’s against children’s pornography. She swam across the Mississippi River during her college days at Oquawka, IL. Allyene was a hobby painter, seamstress, gardener, and a devoted mother and homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wallace; daughter, Janet (John) Hamly-Ott, Syracuse, NY; sons, Dr. Frederick (Cindy) Hamly, Oxley, MO, and Wallace A. (Diania) Hamly, Walcott, IA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Allyene was preceded by her sister, Ruth Holm and a brother, Paul Norris.

Edyth M. Morency 83, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport. There will be no public visitation or service. Burial will be private. Memorials maybe made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Edyth Marie Massey was born on December 13, 1919, in Republic, MO, the daughter of Leslie and May (Squipt) Massey. She married F. Mallen Morency on October 13, 1941 in Chicago, IL. He died February 26, 2003.
Mrs. Morency loved the outdoors. She was an avid golfer for over 40 years, and enjoyed golfing with her husband. For many years, the family was active in skiing and sailing, and Mrs. Morency participated in both sports. She especially enjoyed the family’s summer home in Frankfort, MI and its panoramic view of Lake Michigan.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathi Morency, LeClaire, and daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Fred Bruckmann, Sherrard, IL; two grandsons, Scott Bruckmann (and his fiancée Colleen Transier) and Ryan Morency; and one granddaughter, Jill Bruckmann-Khan; her sister Dorothy Umphlet, Kansas City, MO; and a very special family friend Marilyn Mizener.

She was born July 29, 1916 in Davenport to Arthur P. and Elizabeth (Ames) Griggs.
She owned and operated Griggs Music with her brother for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
She was involved in numerous civic philanthropic and national associations, including the Quad-City Symphony. She was a lifetime member of Christian Science Church, Davenport, and also a member of the Christian Science Mother Church in Boston, Mass. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter F.J.
Memorials may be made to Quad-City Symphony or Christian Science Church, Davenport.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Arthur W. (Jessie) Griggs, Glencoe, IL; her brother-in-law, James Partridge, Bettendorf; two nieces, Ann (Robert) Brown, Kalamazoo, MI, and Elizabeth Wilson, Lincoln, NE; three nephews, David Wilson, Lincoln, NE, William (Jane) Dinsmoor, Aspen, CO, and Eliot “Rocky” Dinsmoor, Aspen, CO; and several great nieces and nephews. Mr. Corlett was born November 15, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Leroy E. and Jenny Good Corlett. He married Dixie J. Johnston August 3, 1952 in Fairfield, Iowa. She died February 10, 1995.
He was an education administrator with the Davenport School System for 31 years, retiring in 1987.
He attended the former St. Ambrose College, V12Program and was commissioned as an ensign with the U.S. Navy.
His memberships included Y’Mens Club, Blue Lodge #37, Davenport, Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine, High Twelve, Mohassen Grotto, Davenport Teachers Association, Men’s Bridge Club, Grotto Noblemen Band, CASI Band, Kix Band and many other bands.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Sue and Max Stanley and their daughter Brenna, of Ponte Vedre Beach, Florida, daughter Sandra Corlett and her children Allie, Nick, Natalie and Ben of Davenport, sons and daughters-in-law Tom Jr. and Kris Corlett and their children Tim and Katie, and Dan and Leslie Corlett and their children Erica, Connor, Andrew and Anna, all of Davenport, sister Mary Hughes, Fairfield, Iowa and Mr. Corlett’s companion and friend Sandy Schrieber, Davenport.

Mr. Dimmick was born June 19, 1915 in Utica, Illinois to Roy and Minnie Cecelia (Larson) Dimmick. He married Lillian Duffy June 9, 1937 in Utica, Illinois. She died May 5, 1994.
He served with the U.S. Army during WW II.
Mr. Dimmick worked as a draftsman with Bendix Corp. for over thirty years, retiring in 1979. He also enjoyed his family and woodworking.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Vernon Thobe, Osakis, MN, Marla and Dale Dexter, LeClaire, daughter LaDean Fox, Denver, CO, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law Charles and Rosamary Dimmick, Lockport, IL.

Richard was born March 9, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa to Edward and Clara (Otten) Schebler. He married Rita M. Bredar on January 19, 1946 in Davenport, IA.
He retired as Secretary of the Schebler Company in 1980, which he was part owner.
Richard was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Elks, Charter Board Member of Eastern Iowa Community College, and Charter Member of the Scott County Conservation Board. He was past President of Illowa SMACNA Chapter, and St. Anthony’s Parish Council.
During WWII, he served in Europe as Staff Sergeant, US Airforce Airborne Troop Carrier.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, volunteer work and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rita M.; two sons, Michael J. (Kathleen) Schebler, Homewood, IL and Steven J. (Irene) Schebler, Blue Grass, IA; two daughters, Teri J. (Frank) Martin, Park View, IA and Marda J. (Charles) Niemi, Republic, MI; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jerome, Charles, Edward, Thomas; one sister, Marie Brus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Beth; three brothers, John, Joseph, and Robert.

Jacob F. Morris, 18, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at his home. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 24 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 422 East 10th Street, Davenport. A memorial fund will be established in Jacob's memory. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jacob was born May 6, 1987 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph S. and Mary "Terry" (Jantke) Morris. He was employed at Vanderwoude Plastics, Inc., Milan. He was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and enjoyed using his artistic abilities.
Jacob is survived by his mother, Mary "Terry" Morris of Davenport; his father, Joseph S. Morris of Burlington, Iowa; sister, Tracy M. (Jamie) Kline and their son, J.J.; brother, Joseph J. Morris, and step-brother, Jesse Morris, all of Davenport; a daughter, Christine Madison Morris of Bettendorf; maternal grandmother, Mary Jantke of Chicago; and a special friend, Suzie Dexter of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Fredrick F. Jantke, in 2004. Jacob was a loving nephew and cousin to many in Chicago.

Walter Allen Hamann, 87, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of McCausland, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at Crest Health Care, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home, with 7:00 P.M. services conducted by the Knights of Pythias. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, or to the McCausland Fire Department.
Walter was born March 30, 1918 in rural Eldridge, Iowa to Adolph and Emma (Meier) Hamann. He married Marian E. Schurr April 23, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. He was a life-long farmer in the Eldridge and McCausland areas, as well as a seed corn dealer for 15 years. He was most proud of his straight corn rows and weed-free fields. He retired from farming in 1994 when he and Marian moved to Davenport.
Walter was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Eldridge. He was a member of the Sheridan and Butler Township's Farm Bureau; served on the Scott County Extension Board for four years; was a 69-year member of the Knights of Pythias. Pluto Lodge of Eldridge; a member of the Golden Anniversary Club; and a former member of the Eldridge Sportsman's Club and Quad-City Times Plus 60. In retirement, Walter and his wife enjoyed dancing, and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; daughters, Linda (Dennis) Paulsen of Waterloo, Sandra (Vince) Knoche of Eldridge, Myrna Cudmore of Davenport; son, Curtis of Long Grove; grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Rossi of Davenport, Elizabeth and Dexter Hamann of Long Grove; sister, Ruth (Ted) Baetke of Eldridge; brother, Calvin (Phyllis) Hamann of Davenport; and sisters-in-law, Helen Hamann of Eldridge and Ruth Hamann of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elsie Kuhl and Rhoda Schmidt; and brothers, Albert, Fred, and Elmer Hamann.

Johnny Ray Gamble, 42 of Davenport, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Davenport.

John was born September 16, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa to William R. and Clella V. (Floyd) Gamble.
He was employed as a lead Forklift Operator and Material Handler for AmeriCold Logistics in Bettendorf, and a member of the Teamster’s Local #371.
John was an avid outdoorsman who loved life and lived it to the fullest, especially fishing, hunting, and camping. His family meant the world to him, above all his three kids. He was a loyal father, brother, and friend with a big heart. John was a very caring person that would do anything to help.
Survivors include his daughter, Johnna Gamble and her mother, Vicki Gamble, both of Davenport; two sons, Christopher and Michael Gamble, and their mother, Sandy LaMar, all of Bettendorf; his girl friend, Mary Moline, of Davenport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Scott King, and Donna and Kevin Freese, all of Davenport; brothers, Bill Gamble, Davenport; Mike and his wife Sandy Gamble, Orlando, FL; Denny and his wife, Pat Gamble, LeClaire, IA; and Larry Gamble, Texas; and several nieces and nephews who were all very special to John.

Patricia Jo Rodman, 66, Cheney, Kansas, formerly of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Via Christie Regional Medical Center- St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 10th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M. Monday, June 9th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Patricia Rodman was born December 15, 1937 in Monte Vista, Colorado . She married Melvin Rodman June 9, 1956 in Colorado.
She was a homemaker who belonged to Church of Christ, Davenport. Her greatest joy was her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and time she spent with her family.
Survivors include her husband Melvin, daughter Susan (Rodman) Milne, Davenport, son and daughter-in-law David and Julie Rodman, Rapid City, Illinois, son Donnie Rodman and his fiance’ Donna, Peoria, Arizona, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Stevie Parks, Colorado, sister and brother-in-law Karen and David Bottom, Ramona, California, brother Bob Canfield, Pasadena, California, her mother Margaret, Ramona, California and her special friend for thirty years Karen Baldwin, Muscatine, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, birth mother Irene, a brother Brad, daughter Vickie Rodman and two great-grandchildren.
