Richard William Tucker, 88, of Davenport, Iowa died Friday, June 20, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 24th at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Monday, June 23rd at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Interment will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Village, Davenport, or First Presbyterian Church, Davenport.
Mr. Tucker was born March 28, 1915 in Berwyn, Illinois to George and Alice (Ries) Tucker. He married Jane Smejkal March 15, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois.
He served with the U.S. Navy during WW II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack and subsequently served in the South Pacific.
Mr. Tucker was founder and chairman of the board of Compacker, Inc., Davenport, from 1961 until his retirement in 1998. He was an elder with First Presbyterian Church, for which he also served on the board. He held board positions for the Rock Island Arsenal Golf and Country Club and Ridgecrest Village.
Survivors include his wife Jane of Davenport, daughter and son-in-law Jane and Michael Bower of Blue Grass, sons and daughters-in-law William and Colny Tucker of Anchorage, Alaska, Griffiths and Barbara Tucker of Davenport, Keith and Catherine Tucker of Bettendorf, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Mary Moulton of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by a brother George G. Tucker.

Debbie was born May 7, 1959, the daughter of Del (Cooper) and William E. Jones. She married Brian J. Hirl on October 30th, 1998 in Galena, Illinois.
She was an Administrative Assistant with Mid America Energy for 27 years.
Debbie had a love for life. No matter what was going on in her life, even through her illness, Debbie always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed spending time soaking up the sun by the pool, crafting, playing golf and cards, and was an avid shopper. She loved spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Abby . She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Brian; step-daughters, Jennifer, Laura and Grace Hirl, all of Davenport, IA; sister, Vicki Filbert, Davenport, IA; brothers, William Jones, Albany, IL, Virgil Skip Jones, Kirksville, MO; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wright, New Boston, MO.

He was born June 13, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Anna L. (Iverson) and Ernest R. Forari. He married Alanna Eddy on October 23, 1976 in Davenport, Iowa.
Ron worked for various local restaurants, and also for John Deere for several years. He retired, in July of 2002, from JFK Catholic School as custodian. He enjoyed woodworking; refinishing furniture; and caring for plants and flowers. He especially loved his family and his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Alanna; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug (Margaret) Forari, Oklahoma City, OK, Troy (Beth) Britz, Lithia, FL; grandchildren, Justin and Derek Forari, Lanie and Brittany Britz; sisters, MJ Simmons, Davenport, Donna (Ralph) Morris, LeClaire, IA; Dee (Bob) Barstow, Davenport; brother, Rick (Donna) Forari, Chandler, AZ.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, Terry Lee Forari.

David S. Stewie Traver, 80, of Davenport, Iowa died Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center, Davenport. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:00 A.M. David Stewart Traver was born March 23, 1923 in Clinton, Iowa, a son of Roy L. and Isabel C. Traver. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, stationed aboard a destroyer escort in the North African Theatre. On February 3, 1946, David was united in marriage to Marilyn Tullberg in DeWitt, Iowa.
Following their marriage, David farmed for 20 years in Scott County. He then began working for John Deere Harvester Works in Moline as a quality control inspector, and also did farm management work until his retirement in 1980.
David was a member of New Life Baptist Church, Davenport. He was also a member of the Blue Grass American Legion, Farm Bureau, and the United Auto Workers.
One of Stewies greatest joys was doing missionary work as member of Men For Missions. Through this ministry he visited 23 countries, and, in 1983, accomplished a trip around the world as a missionary. He was part of an evangelism crusade team, which started new churches in Ecuador and Haiti.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sons and daughters-in-law D. Cory and Debra Traver of Clinton, Iowa, and Barry S. and Lorene Traver, Davenport; and six grandchildren: Jason Traver, Heidi and her husband Joseph Miller, Bryce, Eric, James, and Jeffrey Traver. Stewie was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Cory Traver and Warren Traver.

JOHN H. JENSEN
January 24, 1919 - September 29, 2003
John Harlen Jensen, 84, of Davenport, peacefully passed away on September 29, 2003 at the Park Health Nursing Home in St. Louis Park, MN following a lingering illness. His son, Andrew, was at his side. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
The son of John and Minnie Jensen, he was born January 24, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He married Lois Fern Breckenridge, of Tingley, Iowa, in 1951. She preceded him in death in January of this year.
He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1936, and later served in the US Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Captain following an armed services career which took him to the North African Theatre and Italy.
He worked for the former Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 34 years and retired in 1978 as a Systems Analyst. During his tenure with Northwestern Bell, he lived and worked in the Iowa communities of Keokuk and Waterloo, and eventually moved to Davenport where he has lived since 1957.
John also spent a great deal of his leisure time in the Vergas, Minnesota area where he owned a lakefront vacation home since 1969. In addition to piloting light aircraft in the late 1950s and 1960s, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and refurbishing old machinery and vehicles of many kinds.
He was an active volunteer much of his life, serving as past president of the Iowa branch of the Northwestern Bell Pioneers, a member of the Elks Club, Davenport Central High Booster Club past president, and a parent volunteer with Indian Guides.
Later in his life, John enjoyed traveling to Denmark, the homeland of his father, and also to New York City to visit a longtime friend with whom her served during World War II.
He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Jessen, Council Bluffs, Iowa; two brothers, Roger Jensen, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lester Jensen, Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Jim Jensen, Denver, Colorado, and Andrew Jensen and his wife, Cyndy, Plymouth,
Minnesota; grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, and Jack Jensen, all of Denver, CO; and step-grandchildren, Jeb and Jordan Robinson, Plymouth, MN.
John will be laid to rest beside his wife of 51 years at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A memorial service is not currently scheduled, however relatives and friends of the family will be notified when a service is to be held.

Opal M. Paulus, 88, of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at the Davenport Good Samaritan Center, Davenport, Iowa.
A private family gathering will be held. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at Wilton Cemetery, Wilton, Iowa.

Opal was born in Moscow, Iowa on February 26, 1915, the daughter of Vesta (Wilkerson) and Moorly Murdock. She was united in marriage to Everett Rorick who preceeded her March 5, 1960. She then married Ernest H. Paulus on May 5, 1974 in Davenport, Iowa.
In her youth, Opal, worked in automobile sales; owned and operated a local job service company and enjoyed taking care of her family.
She liked to travel, sew, care for house plants and her family. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest; three sons, Robert D. Rorick, Mt. Julius, TN, William G. Rorick, Apple Valley, CA, Phillip S. Rorick, West Minister, CO; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth.

James R. "Jim" Golden, 77, of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, October 9, 2003, at Davenport Good Samaritan Center, Davenport, Iowa.
A private celebration of life service will be conducted for the family. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa.
Jim was born July 25, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Caroline (Moldenschardt) and Frank Golden. He married Beverly Bucks on June 20th, 1956, in Argo, Iowa.
He retired in 1977, after 30 years of service as Checker at JI Case Company, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Jim was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing solitaire and checkers.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; daughters, Cindy (Robert) Meyer, Bettendorf, IA, Sandra Schlecht, Savanna, IL, Susan (Timothy) DeGeeter, Davenport; IA; four grandchildren, Michelle & Holly Meyer, Ryan & Jared James DeGeeter; sister, Caroline (Robert) DePooter, Colorado Springs, CO.

Paxton was born June 28, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Paul and Edna (Ryan) Damon. He married Ruth Lines on March 30, 1957 in Davenport.
He worked as a mill operator at Alcoa, retiring in 1993. Paxton was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Davenport. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and he especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Damon; daughters, Terri Damon, Michelle (Paul) Damon-Hughes, Sharon Fresquez all of Davenport, IA; grandson, Chad Odom; sisters, Dixie McCay, Aurora, CO, Lynne Jamison, Camanche, IA, twin sisters, Tamara and Tania Damon , San Francisco, CA; and a brother, Greg Damon, Clinton, Iowa.

Kathryn Bell Tate, 97, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Crest Health Care Center, Davenport.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Weerts, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Tate was born July 24, 1906 in Springville, Iowa. She married Alfred Lee Tate January 30, 1931 in Springville, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1987.
As a life long resident of Iowa, her interests centered on her family. Her happiest memories were of the time she spent as a teacher at McKinley School in Davenport for over 15 years.
Survivors included her daughter Susan Zannos, Oxnard, California; sons, Alfred William Tate, Alexandria, Virginia, and Ralph Tate, Amherst, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. Flachs was born May 11, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois. She married Melvin E. Mel Flachs July 2, 1938 in Quincy. He died June 17, 1999.
She retired as secretary from Bendix Corp., Davenport, Iowa.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rev. Dave Barnet of Seaside, Oregon; son and daughter-in-law Roy and Ginger Flachs of Rock Island, Illinois; grandchildren, Daniel Barnet, Laura Kaim and Oden Flachs; and four great-grandchildren.

Dennis Allen Dinter was born June 19, 1941 in Batavia, New York, the son of John and Ruth (Forrester) Dinter. On September 16, 1989, Dennis was united in marriage to Janet Wiese Kirby in Davenport.
Dennis retired in 1981 from the U.S. Air Force, following a career of 20 years of military service. He later retired from Davenport Medical Center in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; his mother, Ruth Dinter, Marion, IA; daughters, Dee (John) Riter, and Denise (William) Brown, both of Yorktown, VA; and Darcie (Mark) Eggelston, Williamsburg, VA; step-daughters, Anne Kirby, Princeton, IA and Tracy (Damien) Dassie, Pleasant Valley, IA; a son, David (Ruth) Dinter, of Harrisburg, PA: step-sons, Richard W. (Carol) Kirby, and Jeffrey Kirby, all of Princeton, IA; 14 grandchildren; and two sisters, Dottie (Mel) Huerter, Marion, IA and Dianne Dinter (Richard Prohaska), Cedar Rapids, IA.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his father, John Dinter.

Felton was born November 6, 1938, the son of Caren (Chatham) and Wade Brantley. He served with the U.S. Army for over 30 years with tours of duty in Vietnam and South Korea.
He enjoyed playing racketball, fishing and motorcycling.
Survivors include daughters, Jill Brantley, Clinton, Iowa, Jacquelin Brantley, Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Collin Rush-Brantley, Davenport, Iowa; grandson, JKai.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joey, in 1998.
