Effie E. Chick Davis, 77, of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio near the home of her son. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 14th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 13 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mrs. Davis was born April 6, 1926 in Moberly, Missouri to Frank and Lois (Buckner) Harvey. She married Herman B. Davis April 6, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. He died July 8, 1992.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed being with family and friends.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Michael and LaSondra Davis of Shaker Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Davis II and Deja Davis; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Wyatt Thorpe of Moberly, Missouri; nieces, Doris Coleman, Linda Kitchen and Kay Thorpe and nephew, Rob Thorpe, all of Moberly, Missouri; and a special friend, LeRoy Harrington of Davenport.

Jane Dubil, 67, of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 15th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 5-7:00 P.m. Friday, November 14th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Mrs. Dubil was born June 13, 1936 in Brixey, Missouri to Claude and Doshia (Leek) Miller. She married Nick Dubil February 24, 1958 in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, flowers, travel and watching NASCAR racing with her husband and sons.
Survivors include her husband Nick; sons and daughters-in-law, Mitch and Melissa Dubil and Brad and Brenda Dubil, and grandson, Andy Dubil, all of Bettendorf; sister, Allie Gentry of Ava, Missouri; brothers, Lavern Miller of Willow Springs, Missouri, Therman Miller of LeClaire, Iowa, Marvin Miller and Dorman Miller, both of Bettendorf, Willis Miller of DeWitt, and George Miller of Grayling, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

George Edward Dexter, 102, of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 17th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Dexter was born May 14, 1901 in Scott County, Iowa to Andrew and Grace (DeRue) Dexter. He married Mary Van Hecke May 1, 1936 in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. She died in 1995.
He was a local dairy farmer for 27 years, retiring in 1960. In his earlier years he worked for the Riverside Power Plant.
He belonged to the Farm Bureau and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He also enjoyed horseshoes, fishing, walking and a good game of cards.
Survivors include son,Jack and his wife Evelyn Dexter of Davenport; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Morris of Santa Barbara, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, sons George and Jim Dexter and a grandson, Brad Dexter.

FRANCES ELIZABETH GERSTNER
October 30, 1913 - November 20, 2003

Frances E. Gerstner, 90, of Pasco, Washington, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Lourdes Medical Center, Pasco. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She and her husband raised their family for over thirty years in Glassport, Pennsylvania. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Gerstner was born October 30, 1913 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert and Eleanor Stewart. She married William M. Gerstner, Jr. May 25, 1945 in Glassport, Pennsylvania. He died November 25, 1991. She was a nurse with the Army Nurse Corp during WW II, and following the war, a homemaker.
Survivors include daughter, Gail Rathburn of Bettendorf, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Theresa Gerstner of Kennewick, Washington, and grandchildren Justin and Lyndsey Gerstner. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Donna Lou in infancy, four sisters and a brother.

The Lord called home Lela Marie Schumacher, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, on Friday, November 21, 2003 from Trinity Medical Center, North Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 24th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (415 W. 53rd St.), Davenport. Visitation will be 2-5:00 P.M. Sunday, November 23rd at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Lela started her celebration of life on March 7th, 1929 when she was born to Lyle Elmer Stevens and Elsie Marie Duncan in Rock Island, Illinois. She married Warren Edward Schumacher in March of 1947 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1970.
Lela shared her laughter, love and joy in all aspects of life. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Davenport. She also was the founder of the C.R.S. Club at Rockingham Hy-Vee in Davenport. Lela worked at Murrays Super Value, Sears and the United States Post Office. She enjoyed celebrating every occasion to the fullest with music, dancing and laughter.
Her sense of humor and caring will be missed by all of her family and friends, especially her children, Vickie Schumacher, Kirk and Rose Schumacher, Randy and Pam Schumacher, Rhonda and John Bull, Scott and Mary Schumacher, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her beloved Leonard Zinger, and many dear friends. Also preceding her in death were her brother, David Stevens, her sister, Shirley Stevens and her daughter, Penny.

Arthur H. Mueller, 82, Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at his home. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 22nd at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be 5-8:00 P.M. Friday, November 21st at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mr. Mueller was born November 15, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Louis and Sophia (Koenig) Mueller. He married Janet Mueller in 1942. She died in 1964. He married Helen Gerbroth in 1966. She died in 1985. He married L. Jett Daley November 20, 1987 in Davenport, Iowa.
He served with the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He worked with the UNISYS Corporation as service manager, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Gideon International, and also enjoyed golf, tennis and travel.
Survivors include his wife, L. Jett of Ft. Myers; sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl W. and Rebecca Mueller of Bettendorf, Gordon L. and Sue Mueller of Davenport; step-son and his wife Robert W. and Roxana Daley of Estero, Florida; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Marguerite Briley of San Juan Capistrono, California; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Jeanette Mueller of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by wives Janet Mueller and Helen (Gerbroth) Mueller and his parents.

Derianna Hope Martinez, stillborn daughter of Fidel Martinez and Derry Spotten-Martinez of Davenport, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, Illinois. Celebration of Life services will be 6:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 25th at Grace Lutheran Church, Davenport. Nursery services will be available at the church. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport, 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 26th. Weerts Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
In addition to her parents, Derianna is survived by sisters, Paris Spotten, 7, and Derika Martinez, 1 year old, both at home; and brothers, Alex and Julian Martinez, both of Moline, Illinois.

Raymond W. Routley, 83, of E. Moline, Illinois, died Friday, November 21, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, Illinois. Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 25th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M. Monday, November 24th and one hour prior to service time, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Bible Chapel, Milan, Illinois.
Ray was born September 1, 1920 in Muskegon, Michigan to Niley and Lillian (Hibbard) Routley. He married Laura S. Orloff August 26, 1944 in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. He was a WW II South Pacific Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Ray was a minister of the Gospel at Harrison Gospel Chapel, Davenport, and Oak Ridge Bible Chapel, Milan. He worked in aviation for twenty years previously. At ten years of age, Ray trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He loved the word of God and invested his life ministering to young people and adults. Ray served as director of Lake Geneva Youth Camp, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, a Christian Youth Camp Ministry.
Survivors include his wife, Laura of E. Moline; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Craig Rolinger of Rock Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell and Terry Routley, Carey and Lynne Routley, and Jonathan and Mary Routley, all of Dubuque; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Mrs. Claude) Vandervert of Forest Grove, Oregon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Roseann Organ of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jack and Barbara Organ of Portland, Oregon. Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Gorgine, and brothers, Alvin, Fred and William Routley.

Celebration of Life Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport.

Richard was born March 14, 1926, the son of James S. and Henrietta (Grill) Marriott.
He married Irene Garner on June 12, 1954 in Fort Madison, Iowa.
He retired in 1994 as Vice-President of Iowa State Savings Bank in Creston, Iowa.
He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity; Stella Lodge #440 A.F & A.M., Fort Madison, Iowa; Young Wisemans Club of the Y.M.C.A.; Davenport Consistory; KAABA Temple, Davenport; Davenport Kiwanis Club; Bettendorf Presbyterian Church; Davenport Lions Club; and former member of Pleasant Valley School Board.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater.
He enjoyed traveling, following his grandchildrens activities, and volunteering for numerous organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughters, Dr. Susan Bigford and her husband, Walter, Houston, Texas, Sara and her husband Keith, Lehman, Bettendorf, Iowa; son, Robert S. Marriott and his wife, Cherie, Bettendorf, Iowa; five grandchildren, Greg, Andy and Jenna Lehman, Matt and Emily Marriott all of Bettendorf, Iowa; sister, Norma Sites, Aurora, Colorado.
Richard was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary in 1957.

RUEL W. VAUGHN

Ruel W. Vaughn, 89 died Friday November 21, 2003 at River Park Health Care Center in Rock Island, IL. Memorial services will be at 11 AM at Greater Antioch Baptist Church 929 14th Street in Rock Island on Saturday November 29, 2003. Mr. Vaughns body was donated to Palmer College of Chiropractic per his request. Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Vaughn was born on May 7, 1914 in Choctaw County Ackeraman, Mississippi to Emmett and Winnie (Davis) Vaughn. He married Cleo Bertha Harris in Mississippi. Later he married Irene Miller in 1978 in California. She died in 1989. Mr. Vaughn worked in the shipping department for the Ben Guttman Company in St. Louis for 20 years.
Ruel was a Deacon of the Greater Antioch Baptist Church in Rock Island.
Survivors included his sons Sammy Vaughn of Rock Island and Emmett Vaughn of East Moline. Several step children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Dale Rowse of Rock Island and many nieces and nephews.

William Roger Cady, 59, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 2nd , 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6th at the Little Mound Cemetery in rural Keokuk. Visitation will be held after 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 5th at the Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 7-9:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the family. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting with local arrangements.
He was employed at Blackhawk Foundry for 15 years and then at Sears Manufacturing for 10 years, from which he retired. Local survivors include his wife, Betty; a daughter, Sheryl Cady; and brothers, Nelson L. Malgram and Raymond Cady.

RICKY D. WHITE

Ricky D. White, 48, of Davenport, Iowa died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. A Celebration of Life memorial gathering will be held 5-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 9th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Huntingtons Chorea Foundation, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Ricky was born February 27, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa to Everett and Mary K. (Locke) White. He married Bobbi Marcussen August 12, 1978 in Davenport.
He worked as a diesel mechanic for the City of Davenport and as a pitman for local racer Dick Ploog. He had a passion for Harleys, stock car racing and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ricky was a true car enthusiast. Family and friends were always his first priority.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbi; sons, Jesse and Nathan White, both of Davenport; brothers and their spouses, Gary and Susan White of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Robert and Theresa White of Eldridge, Iowa. Foster siblings, Sandy, Carol and Avery. Neices and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Audrey White; his foster parents, Lowell and Betty Franz; brother, Richard; step-sister, Marilyn.

Bonnie J. Braden, 73, of Davenport, Iowa, died Sunday, November 23rd, 2003, at Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport, Iowa.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 28, 2003, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vera French Community Mental Health Center or a favorite charity.
She was born December 20, 1929, in Plainfield, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Jean (Burroughs) Goodnow. She married John Braden in 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa.
Bonnie was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa; Walnut Street Baptist Church, Waterloo, Iowa; and a current member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Margaret Goodnow, Manterville, MN and longtime friends and guardians, Randy and Margaret Bolton, Bettendorf, IA.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, John; two brothers, Ralph E. Goodnow, Jr., and Robert Goodnow; and a sister, Barbara Huffman.

ROBERT LYLE MOREY

Robert L. Morey, 82, of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, November 27, 2003 at his home. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 1st at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
Mr. Morey was born September 30, 1921 in Davenport to Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Morey. He married Jane Briceland, who survives him. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II.
He worked for Republic Electric for many years. He also enjoyed golfing, his beloved cat, Ernie and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife, Jane and her family, including her sister Jacque Terry, Davenport, many nieces and nephews, and his cat, Ernie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

MARILYN P. KAPPELER
February 12, 1953 - November 30, 2003

Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Marilyn P. Kappeler, 50, of Bettendorf, will be held 10 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday (today) at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Private family burial will be held.
Marilyn died Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus in Davenport following a brief illness. A memorial fund will be established in her name.
Marilyn P. Goff was born February 12, 1953 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, a daughter of Marvin and LaVonne (Wichman) Goff. She graduated from Westmar College with a degree in Music and Elementary Education. After teaching school for a number of years, she later worked as an administrative assistant for Pioneer Seed. She was united in marriage to Jim Kappeler on June 24, 1989 in Durant.
Marilyn enjoyed golfing and gardening, and especially loved her family, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She had been a committee chair for the John Deere Classsic for the past several years, and also enjoyed teaching piano lessons and was a volunteer with bingo at the Bettendorf Health Care Center.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Kappeler, Bettendorf; her children, Lori and husband Rod Rochholz, Moline, IL, Jim and wife Emily Kappeler, St. Charles, MO, and Natalie Kappeler, Davenport; two grandchildren, Ryan Rochholz and Katelyn Rochholz; three brothers, Eldon and his wife Linda Goff of Spencer, IA; Darrell Goff, Garner, IA; and Robert Goff, Ruthven, IA; many nieces and nephews; her step-mother, Irene Goff, Emmetsburg, IA; and many close and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Peck was born March 10, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa to John J. and Gertrude (Leamer) Johnson. She married R. Harry Peck January 10, 1990 in Bettendorf, Iowa.
She retired in 1990 after 15 years with the medical records department of the former St. Lukes Hospital, now Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. She was a member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church and Kings Daughters. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Harry, of Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. and Lynn Stotlar of Bettendorf, and Brian S. and Carol Stotlar of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Dawn Stotlar of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rich and his wife Debbie Stotlar of Bettendorf, Liza Verhelst of Madison, Wisconsin, and Nathan Stotlar of Delray Beach, Florida; great-grandchildren, Richard and Annie Stotlar, and sister-in-law, Marie Johnson, Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George, Allen, Chet, Blair and Pete Johnson, and sisters, Gertrude Murphy, Jessie Nelson, and Elva Mills.

Tom G. Rhodes, 72, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, December 1, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 5th at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 3-7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 4th at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post #26, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to the Oncology Unit, Genesis Medical Center.
Mr. Rhodes was born December 10, 1930 in Spearsville, Louisiana to Allen B. and Emma (Long) Rhodes. He married Mary Ann Otto July 20, 1960 in Reno, Nevada. He served with the U.S. Navy for 32 years, retiring in 1980 as a Senior Chief in the finance department. After his retirement from the military he joined the former Davenport Bank and Trust Co. as supervisor of Production Operation Control until his retirement in 1991. He then was employed as a cashier for the City of Davenport at the River Center parking ramp. He belonged to the Fleet Reserve Association, Elks Lodge #28, Davenport, and the American Legion Post #26, Davenport. He enjoyed his work, collecting coins, clocks and cars.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Davenport; daughter, Ilene D. Altman of Rock Island, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Lori L. and Mark Rasmussen of Davenport, Iowa; son, Ronald D. Rhodes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Ronald D., Marcus A. and Katlin A. Rusmussen, all of Davenport; sisters, Dixie Carpenter of Memphis, Tennessee and Margaret Hollis of Eugene, Oregon; brother and sister-in-law, John and Bonnie Rhodes of Spearsville, Louisiana; and brother, Roland Rhodes of Natchez, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Allen.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 10, 2003, at Third Missionary Baptist Church, Davenport, Iowa. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Ona was born February 1, 1908, in Louisville, Mississippi, the daughter of George H. and Sinai (Gladden) Frasier. She married William Carter in Mississippi. He died in the 1950s.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Alexander Carter, Davenport, IA; eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Ona was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; and her daughter in law, Mary Lee Carter 1985.
