Arnold Moubry was born March 2, 1917 on the family farm in Lewis Bottom, rural Shellsburg, to Cliff and Dora Johnson Moubry. He attended school at the Lower Stone schoolhouse in Lewis Bottom. On November 24, 1934 he eloped with Lois Abernathy to Galena, IL to be married. The couple lived in the Vinton area all their married life and Arnold worked for B.L. Anderson quarries as a foreman for more than thirty years, retiring in the early 1980's. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and garden. In the fall of 1999, Arnold moved to the West Village Care Center in Independence, where his death came Tuesday, February 06, 2001, at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, in 1996, his daughter-in-law, Sherry, also in 1996, two brothers, Faye and Jim and one sister, Marie Cantonwine Cue. Survivors include his three daughters, Marlene Gilbert and husband, Howard of Seattle, WA, Sherrie Anderson and husband, Richard, of Independence, IA, Penny Witt and husband, Larold, of Shueyville, IA, two sons, Gary and wife, Karen, of Vinton and Rex of Downs, KS, one brother, Elzo and wife, Glenda, of Booneville, AR, twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
Ralph Glenn Noren
Services: 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 atthe First Christian Church in Vinton, with burial at the Rose Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Missouri Valley at a later date.

Ralph Glenn Noren was born May 2, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of Glenn and Aileen Ostrom Noren. He grew up in Chicago and, after graduation from high school, attended Illinois Wesleyan College. In 1957 he married Sandra Barr in Arlington Heights, IL. Ralph's career in the computer industry took the couple to Illinois, California, Maryland and New Jersey before they settled in Missouri Valley, IA, in 1972 to raise their family. Ralph worked at the Omaha National Bank in Omaha, NE, until he retired in 1997. In the spring of 2001 the couple moved to Vinton, IA. Ralph played football and baseball in college and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was an active member of his church and his local Masonic Lodge. Ralph enjoyed fishing, woodworking, stock car racing and was a certified Master Gardener and started the Missouri Valley Garden Club. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of Vinton, IA, his sons Roy E. and wife, Kelly, Robert G. and wife, Molly, both of Omaha, NE, Frederick R. and wife, Kelli, of Bremerton, WA, daughter, Patty Peterson and husband, Jeff, of Vinton, IA, and twelve grandchildren.
Jacob Allan Ogston

Jacob Allan Ogston was born November 28, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo to Tom and Kara Kruckenberg Ogston. Jacob died later that day from complications of premature birth. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his older brother, Isaac, at home with his parents in La Porte City, IA, his maternal grandparents, Richard and Donna Kruckenberg of Mt. Auburn, IA, and his paternal grandparents, Tom and Sandy Ogston of Duluth, MN.
Robert H. Ohrt
Services: 10:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the Overton - Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home in Vinton, with visitation the previous evening from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at the Westview Cemetery in LaPorte City.

Robert H. Ohrt was born on May 27, 1922 near Mt. Auburn, Iowa, the son of Herman & Leta (Wright) Ohrt. On March 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Kathryn Welton in Dallas, TX, they later divorced in 1972. Robert farmed for nearly 30 years in the Vinton area, he worked for George Mayhew, and Barnad & Leas out of Cedar Rapids. Later in life he worked for the Benton County Secondary Roads Department, where he retired from in 1982. In his spare time Robert enjoyed gardening and helping with the farming on his sister’s farm north of Vinton. Robert was living at the Lutheran Home in Vinton when his death came peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2001, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter in infancy, 1 sister Margaret Sheffler, 1 brother Donald and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ohrt. He is survived by 2 daughters, Cheryl & Randy Smith of Center Point, Donita Ohrt of Vinton, 2 sons and their wives; Rick & Penny Ohrt of Vinton, Roger & Lori Ohrt of Milford, 3 granddaughter; Tana of Cedar Rapids, Jama & Stefanie of Vinton, 2 grandsons; Gary & Eric of Milford and 1 great grandson; Khory Nobles of Cedar Rapids. Robert is also survived by 1 brother and his wife; Harold & Velma Ohrt of Walker, 2 sisters and their husbands; Zelda & Merle Koser of Coggon, Ruth & Jim Walker of Vinton and his ex-wife, Kathryn of Meza, AZ.
Kirk Price
Services: 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Overton - Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home in Vinton with Visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Burial will be at the Urbana Cemetery.

Kirk Charles E. Price was born December 17, 1963 in Manchester, IA to Ernie and Lois Falconer Price. He grew up in Palo and attended school there. Kirk worked a variety of jobs in the area over his lifetime. He enjoyed playing cards, watching old TV shows and spending time with his friends. Kirk died Monday, April 30, 2001 at the U of I Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of an auto accident. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernie, and a nephew, Tobias. Survivors include his mother, Lois Price, Shellsburg,IA, his two brothers, Martin Price and wife, Debbie, Cedar Rapids, IA, Tarrel Price and wife, Rhonda, Urbana, IA, his three sisters, Monteen Daniel and husband, Greg, Ocala, FL, Dawn Price, Palo, IA, Koya Price and Gale Simon, Urbana, IA, his God-daughter, Morgan Phelps and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Cynthia Mae Riggle

Cynthia Mae Riggle was born on January 24, 1951, at Waterloo, Iowa; the daughter of Earl and Violet (Miller) Strottman. She received her education in Waterloo, graduating from West High School. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for a nursing home in Waterloo and also at Allen Memorial Hospital as a ward secretary. On January 21, 1974, Cynthia was united in marriage to Lyle Riggle at Galena, IL and they made their home in Brandon all their married life. For the past 15 years, Cynthia and Lyle have owned and operated the Farmers Friend Tavern in Brandon. Cynthia became suddenly ill at home on Thursday, February 1, 2001 and was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, where her death came at the age of 50 years. In her spare time, Cynthia loved to go camping and spend time in the outdoors. She enjoyed playing the organ and dearly loved spending time with her family. Cynthia was a life member of the Amvets Auxiliary in Evansdale. She is survived by her husband Lyle of Brandon, a son John of Hampton, VI, 2 daughters; Tammy Kruckenberg of Waterloo and Heather (Mrs. Jim) Johnson of Vinton, 5 grandchildren, her parents, Earl and Violet Strottman of Waterloo and a sister Mary (Mrs. Frank) Reuter of Waverly.
Keelin Wayne Rommann
Services: 10:30 am on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at Overton-Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home in Vinton, with burial at the Garrison Cemetery in Garrison. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home in Vinton.

Keelin Wayne Rommann was born September 7, 1959 at Independence, IA, the son of Marvin and Rose Laska Rommann. Keelin was raised and attended school in Vinton. He owned and operated his own trucking company in Vinton until diabetes forced him to retire in the early 1990's. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed racing stock cars locally. Keelin's death came Sunday morning, January 13, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from complications of diabetes. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose, in 1997, his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather. Survivors include his fiancee, Melissa Wayson, his father, Marvin Rommann, one son, Matthew, and two daughters, Nichole and Laura Rommann, all of Vinton, three sisters, Connie (Don) Peak, Mt. Pleasant, IA, Debbie (Dave) Baran, Wheaton, IL, Evelyn Bruce, Cedar Rapids, IA, his maternal grandmother, Lula Laska, Lake Andes, SD, several nieces and nephews and Melissa's children, Elissa and Cole Laughridge, Vinton.
Dorothy Margueritte Pollock Sallee
Services: 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 30, 2000 at Overton-Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home, Vinton with Jack Kendall, Meth-Wick Community Chaplain officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home on Friday.

Dorothy Margueritte Pollock Sallee was born on June 13, 1906 at Waterloo, Iowa; the daughter of Henry W. and Marie (Easter) Wiegand. She started her education in Waterloo and later moved to Mt. Auburn where she graduated from Mt. Auburn High School in the Class of 1923. Dorothy worked for a time as an operator for the telephone company in Mt. Auburn and also at area restaurants. On November 5, 1927, she married Hiram Pollock and they made their home in and around the Mt. Auburn area. Following the death of Hiram on September 20, 1944, Dorothy later married Ernest “Pete” Sallee on September 23, 1947 in Waterloo. They made their home in Mt. Auburn their entire married life together. Dorothy worked as the assistant postmaster at the Mt. Auburn Post Office, from which she later retired. Pete passed away on March 14, 1993 and Dorothy continued to live in Mt. Auburn. In January of 1997, she moved to make her home in the Meth-Wick Community where her death came on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at the age of 94 years. Dorothy was very active in preserving the history of the Mt. Auburn community. In her spare time, she enjoyed the outdoors working with her flowers and watching the birds. Dorothy also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren about the birds. She was a member of the Mt. Auburn Christian Church, the Mt. Auburn American Legion Auxiliary for 54 years and the Mt. Auburn Cemetery Board. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands; Hiram Pollock and Ernest “Pete” Sallee, and a brother Kent Wiegand. Dorothy is survived by 4 sons and their wives; Melvin & Cathy Pollock of Jesup, Roy & Carilyn Pollock of Toddville, Lowell & Laura Pollock of Walker, and Gene and Maxine Pollock of Kailua, Hawaii, 2 daughters; Marilyn Oliver and husband Wendell of Cedar Rapids and Beverly Ohm of Palo, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Della E. Sawyer
Services: 11:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Auburn, with burial at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to service time on Monday at the church.

Della Elizabeth Burgess Sawyer was born October 11, 1923 at Stanwood, IA to Lucien and Blanche McCausland Burgess. She was raised in Stanwood and graduated from Stanwood High School. On May 23, 1941 she and Robert Sawyer, from Stanwood, IA, were married in Kahoka, MO. The couple farmed together in Cedar and Benton counties all their married life. Besides helping on the farm, Della taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member of the United Methodist Church Women's groups in Dysart and Mt. Auburn. She enjoyed the neighborhood women's clubs and socializing with other farm wives. Della was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Due to complications of a thyroid disorder, Della's health had failed and her death came peacefully at the Vinton Lutheran home on Thursday, October 18, 2001 at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, William, Robert, Harold, Jack and Kenneth Burgess. In addition to her husband of sixty years, she is survived by one son, Bob Sawyer and wife, Joann, of San Antonio, TX, one daughter, Betsy Sawyer of Minneapolis, MN, one granddaughter Christine Sawyer of Bumpass, VA, four brothers, Richard Burgess of Salem, OR, Arthur Burgess of Madras, OR, James Burgess of Orlando, FL, Clifford Burgess and wife, Beverly, of Rio Rancho, NM, and three sisters, Jean Whited and husband, Earl, Las Cruces, NM, Florence Brickley and husband, Richard, Anamosa, IA, and Mary Reeder and husband, Wayne, Grand Junction, CO.

Nancy Lynne Schmitz was born in Independence, Iowa on August 24, 1953, the daughter of Theodore & Wilma (Fay) Schmitz. Nancy was raised and spent her entire life in the community of Urbana. She attended school in Urbana and also went to class in Vinton and Belle Plaine. Nancy’s life was centered around her family and the people of Urbana, she touched many lives and those who knew her benefited from the love and kindnesses she shared. Nancy was a treasure to her parents and she was a great help to them, especially as Ted and Wilma became older. Nancy loved to dance, bowl and go to Saturday movies with her dad. She also loved babies and dogs, she knew each dog in the neighborhood and loved to coo over the newborn babies. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Urbana. Nancy had diabetes and it was a complication from diabetes that ended her life. She was a patient at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo when she passed away on Monday, May 28, 2001 at the age of 47 years. She is survived by her parents, 1 brother and his wife; Keith and Carrole Schmitz of Waterloo, 5 sisters and their husbands; Mary Anne & Michael Carmody of Osage, Judy & Jim Dolan of Santa Ana, CA, Karen & Jerry Carter of Newport Beach, CA, Joan & Keith Zieser of Vinton, and Linda & Terry Dunham of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
