James "Dick" Russell Blodgett
April 4, 1935 - September 6, 2003
James "Dick" Russell Blodgett, 68, of Columbus Junction, died Saturday September 6, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction, Wednesday September 10 at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Donald Bundy will officiate. Casket bearers will be Tom Blodgett, Ken Blodgett, Kirk Blodgett, Craig Blodgett, Pat Blodgett, Steve Blodgett and Thad Blodgett. Honorary casket bearers will be Josh Phillips, Russell Blodgett, Ronald Blodgett, Sean Burtlow, Tommy Staley, Cody Hartsock, John Burtlow Jr., James Dickess, Austin Varnell, Traven Mills, Marty Johnson, Jim Dickess, Nathaniel Mills, Phil Nelson, Gary White, Jose Sandoval and Lee Burress. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in his name. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Dick was born April 4, 1935 in Wapello, Iowa to James O. and Allice L. (Cox) Blodgett. He was united in marriage to Carol June Miller on April 5, 1952. He later married Rebecca Wheeler on July 1, 1989 at the Pleasant Grove Community Church in Columbus Junction.
Dick was employed at the Rath Meat Packing Company for over 21 years in Columbus Junction. He was the mayor of Fredonia since 1998. Dick also worked at Colonial Manor and retired from Wal-mart after ten years of service. He also farmed for many years. Dick was a two term past president of the Columbus Junction Lion's Club. He enjoyed square dancing, working with wood, deer hunting and loved his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca Blodgett of Columbus Junction, one son Bruce and his wife Lynn Blodgett of Columbus Junction; eight daughters, Bonnie White and her husband Gary of Ainsworth, Jayne Johnson and her husband Marty of Wapello, Judy Lesiak of Kansas City, Loretta Burress and her husband Lee of Columbus Junction, Ladonna Hartsock of Wapello, Melissa Dickess and her husband Jim of Tiffin, April Sandoval and her husband Jose of Muscatine, and Heather Mills and her husband Nathaniel of Muscatine; three sisters Mary Morgan of Morning Sun, Iowa, Twyla and James Williams of Cedar Rapids, Betty and Jim Van Auken of Columbus Junction; two sister-in-laws Catherine Blodgett of Central City, Ne; and Delores Blodgett of Silvis, Il; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one expecting grandchild and one expecting great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Charles, Keith, and Phillip; one sister Doris Krebs; and two grandchildren Lawrence Sly and Louis Sattler Jr.

Gabriel Rivera
April 18, 1928 - September 1, 2003
Gabriel R. Rivera, 75, of Muscatine , Iowa , died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Genesis East in Davenport . Funeral services will be Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Muscatine . Pastor Mike Bales will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery . A luncheon will be held at the First Assembly of God Church following the committal service at Greenwood Cemetery . Casketbearers are Gabe Rivera, Joseph Rivera, Dan Rivera, Matt Rivera, Doug Rivera, Mark Reyes, Rorlando Solis, and Orlando Reyes. Honorary casketbearers are Barry Rivera, David Solis, Brance Rivera, Benjamin Rivera, Isaac Rivera, and Andrew Reyes. Visitation for Gabriel will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Gabriel was born April 18, 1928 to Fundador and Juana Rivera in Fajardo, Puerto Rico . He married Julia Ann Little on October 6, 1960 in Atlanta , Georgia . He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Gabriel worked at International Harvesters for over 30 years. He previously was employed at for Heinz and most recently worked for CDS in Wilton . He enjoyed watching baseball.
Gabriel will be deeply missed by his wife, Julia of Muscatine; his children, Gabe Rivera and his wife, Deb of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Joseph Rivera and his wife Deanne of Anomosa, Iowa, Daniel Rivera and his wife, Pam of Eagle Lake, Mn, Matthew Rivera and his wife Susannna of Muscatine, Douglas Rivera and his wife Kathy Bolingbrook, Ill., Gigi Anacleto and her husband Alan of Florida, Johannah Reyes and her husband Toribio of Muscatine, Juana Solis and her husband Juan of Moline, Il, Gabriella Rivera of Muscatine and Jessica Dixon and her husband James of Muscatine and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother Angel Ascencio of Puerto Rico and two sisters Irma Pena and her husband Ruben of Puerto Rico and Anna Isales of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by Parents; one son James; three brothers Emilio, Angel and Pedro Rivera; and one grandaughter April Rivera.

NORAH JANE WITTHUHN age 88 of Malvern, IA, formerly of Tabor, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Manor of Malvern following an extended illness. Norah was born January 30, 1917 in Mascot, NE to Daniel Grosenbach and Elsa (Keene) Grosenbach. Following High School she attended Mitchell Bible School in Mitchell, SD and Tabor Bible School in Tabor, IA where she met her future husband, Ferdinand. Norah and her brother, Melvin Grosenbach pastored two churches in Texas from 1939 to 1941. On March 26, 1946 she was married to Ferdinand Witthuhn in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Norah attended the Tabor Nazarene Church and worked as a missionary in Haiti for over 20 years.
Norah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ferdinand; and 2 brothers, Albert and Ralph Grosenbach. She is survived by 4 sisters, Esther Grosenbach of Sidney, NE, Ruth McGillivary of Meridian, ID, Mildred McGillivary of Portland, OR, and Dorothy Deits of Poulsbo, WA; 2 brothers, Melvin Grosenbach of Othello, WA and Glen Grosenbach of Caldwell, ID; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

DON REEVES, age 76 of Council Bluffs, IA died Monday, February 28, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. Don was born July 10, 1928 near Percival, IA to Earl Reeves and Elsie (Brown) Reeves. On June 12, 1950, he was married to Franceo LaMaster in Bentonville, AR. Don farmed near Percival and Thurman for many years and later drove a truck for Acoma Foods and Morton House Kitchens in Nebraska City, NE and then for PIE out of Omaha, NE. Don was a member of the Nebraska City Eagles Club.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Randy Reeves and Donald R. Reeves, Jr.; and 2 brothers, Anderson and Ivan Reeves. He is survived by his wife, Franceo Reeves of Council Bluffs, IA; 3 daughters, Sandy Sheldon and husband Randy of Heber Springs, AR, Janie Magel and husband David of Sidney, IA, Brenda Jochimson and husband Scott of Papillion, NE; 2 sons, Bob Reeves and wife Deb of Hamburg, IA and Kenny Reeves of Thurman, IA; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; sister, Doloras Martin of Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends

EVIE SCHENCK, age 56 of Farragut, IA died Friday, February 25, 2005, at her home unexpectedly. Evie was born November 18, 1948 in Hamburg, IA to Roy Dean Hickey and Ella Ione (Williams) Hickey. She was a 1967 graduate of Fremont-Mills High School and worked in many various capacities throughout the area. Evie also enjoyed raising Toy Poodles.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Don Schenck of Sidney, IA; 3 daughters, Tina Schenck of Omaha, NE, Tammy Jones and husband Jason of Shenandoah, IA and Tonya Schenck of Sidney; 4 grandchildren, Tristen Dexter, Mitchell Jones, Kyle Jones and Nathan Jones; sister, Carol Huntley of Sioux City, IA; 2 brothers, Russell Hickey and wife Pam of Shenandoah, IA and Ronald Cloyd of Omaha, NE; several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

DOROTHY G. POWERS, age 85 of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Tabor, IA, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO following an extended illness. Dorothy was born April 16, 1919 in Limon, CO to Milton Oscar Gardner and Eula Alphretta (Jordan) Gardner. On May 8, 1937 she was married to Glen B. Powers in Hiawatha, KS. Dorothy was a member of the Tabor First Christian Church and attended the Central Christian Church in St. Joseph. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Tabor Manor and was an employee at Dr. K.D. Rodabaugh’s office for 14 years in Tabor. Dorothy was a foster grandparent at the Glenwood State Hospital School, a member of the CIC Club, Garden Club, Pythian Sisters, TOPS, and the Sr. Citizen’s Club.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Powers; 2 sisters, Lucille Gardner, Juanita Gardner; and a grandson, Rodney (Rod) Yates. She is survived by 2 daughters, Charlene Jordan and husband Bill of St. Joseph, MO and Carolyn Yates and husband Gary of Glenwood, IA; 3 grandchildren, Carlene Spencer, Janell Jordan and Debra White; 5 great grandchildren, Kristin Spencer, Maggie Stanton, John White, Breanna White and Amanda Yates; great great granddaughter, Sarah Spencer; sister, Delores Green of Tabor, IA; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

ELIZABETH GRACE RACINE, age 93 of Sidney, IA died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Ambassador Care Center in Sidney, IA following an extended illness. Grace was born March 14, 1911 in Blue Springs, NE to Ira and Mary Ann (Mollie) Glasgow. Elizabeth was better known to everyone as Grace. She started school in Blue Springs, NE and later transferred to Anderson, IA where she graduated from the 8th grade. Grace married Carl Holland and to this union one daughter, Mary Ida, was born.
Grace lived in Fremont County in the Sidney area the earlier part of her life. While living in Sidney, she did domestic work until she went to work for The General Telephone Company where she worked for nine years. She belonged to the Pythian Sister Lodge and the Rebecca Lodge while living in Sidney, and the Eastern Star in Shenandoah.
On In June of 1960 she married Clarence Racine. They lived on a farm southwest of Coin, IA for several years. After retiring they moved to the town of Coin.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Carl Holland and Clarence Racine; 6 brothers, Presley, Steve, Gene, Walt, Howard and Floyd Glasgow; 4 sisters, Marth Bills, Hazel Hslep, Mary Rist and Myrtle Christianson; grandson, Jeffery Bell; 5 sisters in law, Mildred, Lucille (Sally), Velva, Lucille and Millie; brothers in law, Russell Bills, Cotton Hslep, Irwin (Baully) Rist, Floyd Christianson. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ida Bell and husband Jess of Riverton, IA; granddaughter, Deborah Rogers of Glenwood, IA; sister in law, Eileen Glasgow of Sidney, IA; 2 step sons, Clifford Racine and wife Sherrie of Red Oak, IA, Bill Racine and wife Louise of Grove Beach, CA; step granddaughter, Cathy; and 3 step grandsons, Paul, Brett and Kevin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

BILLY JOE THOMPSON, age 51 of Tabor, IA died Monday, February 14, 2005 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE following an extended illness. Billy Joe was born December 19, 1953 in West Plains, MO to Everett Thompson and Alberta C. (Yocham) Thompson. On June 4, 1993, he was married to Corinne Millikan in Sharpsburg, IA. Billy Jo worked as a Drug Counselor at Mercy Center in Omaha, NE for a time before going into independent practice in Council Bluffs and Glenwood, IA where he started NA in 1998.
Billy Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Everett (Snook) Thompson and Jerry Dean Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Corinne Thompson of Tabor, IA; 4 daughters, Jera Thompson of Tabor, Jenny Lincoln of Omaha, NE, Jennifer Joe Thompson of Kansas City, MO, and Jamie Cramer and husband Eric of Pacific Jct., IA; 2 sons, Billy Joe (Toby) Thompson, Jr. of Cameron, MO and Jimmy L. Strutten and wife JoAnn of Council Bluffs, IA; 12 grandchildren; sister, Pat Counts and husband Jerry of Granite City, IL; 2 brothers, Leak Thompson and wife Sharon of St. Louis, MO and Charlie Thompson of Leavenworth, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

WINIFRED RHOADES, age 83 of Sidney, IA died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Ambassador Care Center in Sidney, IA following an extended illness. Winifred was born November 11, 1921 in Sidney, IA to Moses Raymond Rhoades and Flossie Gertrude (McCluskey) Rhoades.
Winifred attended Sidney High School and graduated in 1940. Upon graduation, she worked at the General Telephone Office of Sidney, the War Price & Rationing board during World War II and in 1945, began as deputy Treasurer of Fremont County. Of the forty-one years spent in that office, the last thirty years being the County Treasurer, retiring on January 1, 1987. She served as President of the Sidney American Legion Auxiliary, Fremont County Historical Society, Research Club, and the 7th District leader of the Iowa State Treasurer’s Association. She served in several capacities of the Methodist Church, Republican Party and Junior Farm Bureau.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents; cousin, Edna Marie Reed. She is survived by her cousin, Mildred Porter of Sidney, IA, Linda Watkins and husband Ed and daughter Rachel of Murphy, TX; and Stephen Porter and wife Linda of Thurman, IA; other relatives and friends.

ADELBERT ARNOLD HALL, age 67 of Tabor, IA died Monday, February 14, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Arnold was born June 18, 1937 near Randolph, IA to Theodore Ivory Hall and Helen Louise (McPheron) Hall. On December 20, 1958, he was married to Dollita Keep near Coin, IA who preceded him in death. Arnold married Kathleen McMullan on August 15, 1998 in Tabor, IA. Arnold farmed near Tabor for many years and also worked as a Jailer for both Fremont County, Iowa and Mills County, Iowa. He was very active in the Fremont County Reserve Deputy’s Association, had served for a time on the Fremont County Zoning Board, and was a former president of the County Bumpers Square Dance Club.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore I. Hall, Helen (McPheron) Hall and Thelma (Powers) Hall; first wife Dollita (Keep) Hall; and a nephew, Ty Hall. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (McMullan) Hall of Tabor, IA; 2 daughters, Denise Kay Hall and Wayne Wilke of Omaha, NE and Brenda Lee Herrod and husband Michael of Norfolk, NE; son, Mark Arnold Hall of Tabor; step daughter, Michelle O’Marah of Los Angeles, CA; step son, Stewart O’Marah of Chico, CA; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Hall, Heather Ivory Hall, and Mark Arnold Hall II all of Wellington, MO, and Lauren Nicole Herrod and Connor Michael Herrod of Norfolk, NE; brother, Ted Hall, Jr. and wife Shirley of Tama, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

WENDELL R. SMITH, age 64 of Sidney, IA died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. Wendell was born November 18, 1940 on a farm near Sidney, IA to Charlie Wesley Smith and Della Elizabeth (White) Smith. Wendell was a former member of the Waubonsie Saddle Club. He worked for the Fremont County Department of Roads for 29 years. Wendell enjoyed golfing at the Fremont County Golf Course.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Grant and Donald Smith. He is survived by his wife, Sherri Smith of Sidney, IA; daughter, Jennifer D. Clark of Sidney, IA; 1 granddaughter, Lauren Clark of Sidney, IA; 3 sisters, Darlene Wampler and husband Donald and Ila Gray all of Nebraska City, NE, Evelyn Whipple and husband Jim of Clarinda, IA ; 2 brothers, Russell Smith and wife Marietta of Des Moines, IA and Kenneth Smith and wife Dora of Northboro, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
