Leonard Albert Hrubes
Leonard Albert Hrubes, 79, of 807 N. 8th St., Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa. A Funeral Mass was held Friday, Nov. 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Graveside services were at St. John's Cemetery, Duncan, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Leonard A. Hrubes memorial fund.
Leonard was born Sept. 10, 1922 in rural Britt, Iowa the son of Albert and Ann (Wellik) Hrubes. He attended rural school. He married Arlene Buseman Nov. 23, 1943 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Duncan, Iowa.
He farmed in the Klemme, Rudd and Forest City areas. They later moved to Garner, Iowa, and in 1971 moved to Clear Lake. He worked for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Company in Clear Lake until his retirement.
Leonard enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, Iowa.
Leonard is survived by his two children, Jim Hrubes and his wife, Jan, Sun City, Az.. and Mary Mitthun and her husband, Marlin, Thompson, Iowa; five grandchildren, Bob Hrubes, Des Moines, Iowa, Kerri Hrubes and her fiancé, Mark Scott, Pearland, Texas, Jackie Mitthun and his wife, Kim, Thompson, Iowa, Kurt Mitthun and his wife Paula, Thompson, Iowa, and Julie Armstrong and her husband, Paul, Buffalo Center, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Casandra, Kyle, Cody, Chelsey, Kory, Nicholas, Jake, Haley and Megan; and one sister, Margaret Katuin, Garner, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; and one brother, Elmer Hrubes.

Bonnie Jean Al-Jazaf
Bonnie Jean Al-Jazaf, 61, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 24, at the United Methodist Church in Ventura, with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Burial was in the Ventura Cemetery.
Bonnie Jean Al-Jazaf was born on Oct. 20, 1940, in Ventura, the daughter of Richard and Lucille (Ringgenberg) Winters. She attended and received her education in the Ventura School System. She also graduated from the La James College of Hairstyling in 1980, and owned the Hanford Salon in Mason City for a number of years. On July 7, 1996, she made a profession of faith to be baptized into the Christian faith at the Agape Christian Family Church in Clear Lake by Pastor David L. Toyne. She had several hobbies, and had time to have a full time job at the Casey's General Store as a cook in Clear Lake. The hobbies she enjoyed were camping, fishing, painting, cooking, collecting cookbooks, and e-mailing with her many "net" friends, but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Terri King and her husband, Tim, of Dougherty, Iowa, and Kim Hesler and her husband, Greg, of Ventura; four grandchildren, Travis King of Dubuque, Iowa, Kylie Hesler of Mason City, Crystal King of Mason City and Zach Hesler of Ventura; three brothers and two sisters, Ron Winters and his wife, Pat, of Watertown, S. D., Gary Winters and his wife, Cheryl, of Alexander, Iowa, Dick Winters and his wife, Jo, of Mason City, Pat Osier of Mason City, and Cindy Ebeling and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; as well as other relatives and friends.
Her parents; a niece, Kelly Jo; and a nephew, Mark Winters, preceded her in death.
Bonnie will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Robert Raymond Kienast
Robert Raymond Kienast, 74, Clear Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, November 29, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military graveside honors by the Veterans of Foreign Post in Clear Lake. Friends may call from noon until service time on Thursday at the chapel.
According to his wishes his body was cremated.
Robert Raymond Kienast was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Mitchell County, Iowa, near Osage, the son of Henry Howard and Herbertena (Michels) Kienast. He attended and received his education in the Osage School system, graduating from Osage High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War II, serving overseas in the Philippines with Co. A 42nd Engineer Bn. in which he received the Army Occupational Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the World War II victory medal. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 7, 1946, at Ft. George Meade, MD. He came back to the Osage area and worked as a mason for the Kienast Construction Company for several years. He was united in marriage to Rosalyn Petersen on Dec. 30, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake. After his marriage he moved to Clear Lake where he worked for A.M.F. Inc. building and refinishing bowling alleys until his retirement. After his retirement he worked part-time doing construction work and at VFW and The Town Pump in Clear Lake.
He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and golfing, but his great love and enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of VFW in Clear Lake.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Roxanne Bergo and her husband, Bryan, of Mankato, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Bergo of Minneapolis, Minn., and Justin Bergo of Mankato; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Frampton, and her husband, Kenneth, of Clear Lake and their family, Brandon Frampton of Iowa City, and David Frampton of Clear Lake; brothers and sister, Joseph Kienast of Mason City, Val Kienast of Wayne, Neb., Ann Baslee of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and James Kienast of Orlando, Fla. as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Reginald Kienast; his parents; sisters Majella and Stephania; and three brothers, Arnold, Bernard, and Paul Kienast.

Dorothy Johanna Louise Ward, 76, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Dorothy Louise Ward.
Dorothy Louise Ward was born on Dec. 10, 1924, in rural Corwith, the daughter of William and Elfreda Agnes (Kraft) Heidecker. She attended and received her education in the Renwick School system, graduating from Renwick High School. She also attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
After completing her schooling she worked as a secretary for the Quaker Oats Elevator in Renwick.
She was united in marriage to Donald G. Ward on June 2, 1945, in Renwick. After their marriage together they farmed near Whittemore, Corwith, and later in Clear Lake.He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1971, at which time she took over the ownership and management of the Cave Lounge in Clear Lake.
Dorothy enjoyed crafts, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards with her many friends at the Clear Lake VFW, and outdoor gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the adult bible study class.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Pamela Raddatz and her husband, Steve, from Oshkosh, Wis., Patricia Meints and her husband, Marlin "Slim", from Clear Lake, and Peggy Kerr and her husband, Mark, from Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Art Eichmann and wife, Colleen, Fred Eichmann and wife, Stevie of Oshkosh, Wis., Michael Eichmann and his wife, Holly, of Garner, Jennifer Eichmann, of Largo, Fla., Mitch Raddatz and wife, Cindy, from Ripon, Wis., Wendy Shahan of Lake Mills, and Joseph Meints, of Clear Lake, Gabe Meints, of Clear Lake, Cheryl Lovan and husband, Chan, of Clear Lake, Kelly Carew and husband, Paul, of Ankeny, Iowa, Lindsey, Jackie, and Christopher Kerr, all of Mt. Vernon; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Nuehring and husband, Art, of Clear Lake, Dorothy Haag of Algona, and Darlene Smith of Clear Lake; a brother-in-law, Chan Ward and his wife, Rosemary, of Clear Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Donald Shahan; and a brother, Arnold Heidecker.

Carmel Hayes "Speed" Lady, 91, 5523 South Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 30, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with his nephew, Norman J. Atwell, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
The family of Carmel Hayes "Speed" Lady has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401, in his memory.
Carmel was born to Milton Eugene and Cora Leona (Harcourt) Lady in Cambridge, Ill. on July 27, 1910. At the age of 12 they moved to Elkton, Minn. where they farmed. Later he moved to Austin, Minn. and married Ruth Bartley. They had two sons, Carmel Eugene and Roland Shelby. In 1946 he moved to Clear Lake.
Carmel was united in marriage to Rena Arlene Grell, Sept. 29, 1949 in Mission, Texas. Carmel worked for Edginton and Southard Construction Co., Ruan Gas Transport, and Mason City Brick and Tile from which he retired in 1975. He loved studying the Bible, woodworking and helping friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by his family and grandchildren.
Carmel is survived by his wife, Rena Lady of Clear Lake; daughter, Virginia Lee (Ginny) Willett and husband, Rory, Waterloo, Iowa; son, Mark Allen Lady and wife, Paula, Loveland, Colo.; three grandchildren, Kristyn and Rebecca Willett, Waterloo, Iowa, and Shane Lekwa, Boulder, Colo.; sister-in-law, Joie Lady, Rochester, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; very dear friends; and neighbors Al and Karen Hughes who have supported the family through the happy and sad times.
Carmel was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, and six brothers.

Jeri Schnoebelen, 45, went home to heaven Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 in a hospital in Midland, Texas. She was cremated and at the present her ashes are with her loving sister, Nan-c Ganske Haney.
In memory of Jeri her family will hold a gathering of friends on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 1 - 2:30 p.m. in the band shell room at Clear Lake City Park. All her area friends are invited to come and share with friends and family.

Dorothy "Dottie" B. MacDonald, 80, of 1221 N. 7th St., Clear Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Dottie had requested that her body be donated to University of Osteopathic Medicine, Des Moines, Iowa and their be no service. Family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. S.E., Mason City, Iowa 50401.
Dottie was born Sept. 6, 1921 in Hampton, Ark. the daughter of Charles Henry and Nelle Bly (Harris) Gresham. She graduated from Thornton (Arkansas) High School. Dottie married John A. MacDonald April 6, 1944 in Alexandria, La. They moved to Clear Lake in 1965. She worked for the Fashion Shop in Clear Lake and in 1987 started working for Olaf T. Hansen Clothing Store.
Dottie is survived by her son, John H. MacDonald, San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sheila MacDonald, Charlie MacDonald and his wife, Aprile, and John MacDonald Jr., all of Des Moines, Iowa; one great-grandson, Warren MacDonald; one brother, Jack Gresham and his wife, Doris, Fordyce, Ark.; and one sister, Ruth Creed, Houston, Texas.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and husband John in 1989.

Marion Leon Warren, 80, Clear Lake, died Friday Dec. 7, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Unit of North Iowa, in Mason City.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 10, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Clear Lake VFW.
The family of Marion Leon Warren has requested that memorial contributions be made to the youth education programs at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake in his memory.
Marion Leon Warren was born July 3, 1921, in Harris, Mo., the son of Albert and Maude (Wemmer) Warren. Marion attended and received his education in the Milan, Mo. Schools, graduating from Milan High School. Marion moved to Geneva, Iowa and worked as a farm hand until he was inducted into the service.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 30, 1942, at Camp Dodge, Iowa, and served as an infantryman with the 12th Calvary, and fought in the battles in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and the Bismarck Archipelago, during World War II until his honorable discharge as SGT. On Sept. 12, 1945, at Chickasha, Ok. Marion received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, three Battle Service Stars, and the Combat Inf. Badge.
He was united in marriage to Velma Roegner on Nov. 9, 1942, in Unionville, Mo.
After his honorable discharge from service, he worked as a mechanic in Hampton, Iowa, before moving to Clear Lake, and working for the Clear Lake School District as a custodian for 35 years. After his retirement as a custodian Marion worked full time for Secory Plumbing in Clear Lake until his retirement.
Marion's hobbies were fishing, gardening, and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, and the I.O.O.F. in Mason City.
Warren is survived by his wife, Velma Warren, of Clear Lake; son, Dennis Warren, Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeff Warren and his wife, Tara, Woodbury, Minn., and Kim Warren and her fiancé, Chris Compton, Farmington Hills, Mich., as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sam Warren, Glen Warren, and Orville Warren; and one sister, Ellen Rainbolt.

Leonard L. Manson, 80, of 1 3rd Street, Ventura, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m., at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor David Wiersbe and Pastor Randy Vaage officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, Iowa, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be directed to the Leonard L. Manson Memorial Fund.
Leonard was born Sept. 13, 1921 in rural Manchester, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Emma (Swanson) Manson. He graduated from Dundee High School and then worked as a hired man from 1939 until 1942. Leonard served in the United States Navy during World War II. For 38 months he served as a cook while stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. After his discharge, he again worked as a hired man from 1947 until 1949. Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Madson on June 5, 1948 at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt, Iowa. They farmed in Delaware County from 1949 until 1970. In 1970, Leonard moved with his wife to Clear Lake to become the managers of the United Methodist Camp. They retired after managing the camp for 14 years. Leonard enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, and reading. He also liked to watch sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan. Leonard was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake.
Leonard is survived by five children, Lance A. Manson and his wife, Jan, of New Hampton, Iowa, Craig L. Manson and his wife, LeAnn, of Edgar, Wis., Neal P. Manson and his wife, LaRee, of Marathon, Wis., Lenice A. Lee and her husband, Daniel, of Huxley, Iowa, and Sherilyn S. Theel and her husband, Darin, of Forest City, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and three brothers, the Reverend Harold Manson and his wife, Jean, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kenneth Manson and his wife, Betty, of Dallas, Texas, and Elmer Manson and his wife, Doris, of Manchester, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Alice, on June 8, 2001.

R. Dean Francis, 73, of 2161 Edwin Ave., Fort Lee, New Jersey, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. His wishes were to be cremated and private services were held at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Rodney Dean Francis.
Dean was born May 28, 1928 at Swanville, Minn., the son of A. W. and Cyrilla (Lang) Francis. He graduated from Stewartville, Minn. High School in 1946 and graduated from University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree.
Dean moved to New York in the early 1950's where he worked in the theater. In the 60's until his retirement in 1993 he worked for a television production company. After retiring he moved to Fort Lee.
Dean was very supportive of his family, especially his sons, and he will be sorely missed.
Dean is survived by his two sons Timothy Lang Francis and his wife, Meredith, Kensington, Md. and Alexander Francis and his wife, Beth, Chester, N.Y. and their daughter, Shelby Francis; four brothers, Avison W. Francis and his wife, Marjorie, Park Rapids, Minn., James G. Francis and his wife, Elizabeth, Clear Lake, Kenneth Francis and his wife, Martha, Sherwin, Texas, Richard Francis and his wife, Helen, Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Wava Larson and her husband, Levern, Kasson, Minn., Ruth Percario and her husband, Nunzio, Bartow, Fla., Cyrilla Vessey, Fairfax, Va., and Betty Kay Westphal and her husband, Gerald, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Everette and Robert Francis.

Margaret K. Anderson, 87, died Tuesday Dec. 11, 2001, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 14, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Margaret K. Anderson Memorial Fund.
Margaret was born July 13, 1914 in Thornton, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Lela (Floy) Nelson. She went to country school and graduated from Thornton High School in 1931. On Dec. 15, 1935 Margaret married Marvin Anderson in Thornton. They moved to a farm near Swaledale, Iowa in 1936. In 1948 they moved to Clear Lake. Margaret worked at the Clear Lake Bakery from 1954 to 1959. She then worked part time at several cafes in Clear Lake.
Margaret enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with her friends and having coffee, and going on car rides. She also enjoyed going to the Do Day Club at church to make quilts, and knitting afghans for family and friends. She also enjoyed watching baseball.
Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Hope Circle.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Levenhagen, Des Moines, Iowa; three sons, Gary Anderson, Clear Lake, Dennis Anderson and his wife, Marcia, Clear Lake, and David Anderson and his wife, Judy, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Sherri Olson and her husband, Todd, Nicole Lyon and her husband, Mike, Travis Anderson, Jason Anderson and his wife, Rachel, Joel Anderson and Jody Davis, Jacob Anderson, Scott Hakes and his special friend, Ellen, Jaime Hakes, and Jennifer Allen; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Floyd Harms and his wife, Mary, Mason City; special friend Linda Bowers and her husband, David, Clear Lake, two nieces and their spouses; and two nephews and their spouses.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin in 1989; and one sister, Ruth Harms.
