Leo Francis Lallier, 76, 205 West View Dr., Ventura, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Heritage Health Care, Mason City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with a Scriptural Wake service to start at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Leo was born May 23, 1928 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of Oswald F. and Sarah (Kelch) Lallier. He graduated from Algona High School. Leo served his country in the Army National Guard during the Korean War. He worked for Northern Natural Gas for 32 years, retiring in 1984. After retirement, Leo and Delores volunteered for various senior programs both in Iowa and Arizona. They wintered in Apache Junction, Az. Leo loved gardening, fishing, and camping with his family. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Leo is survived by three children, Vicki McNally and her husband, Patrick, Tucson, Az., Debra Sharits and Jack Wignot, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Kristy Prall and her husband, Kirk, Meridian, Id.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores, July 2, 2004 and granddaughter, Melissa.
Wayne F. Young, 79, 5801 South Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. According to his wishes, he was cremated. A graveside memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 13, with lay assistant Richard Scott with Zion Lutheran Church of Clear Lake officiating. Military honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be left to the Wayne F. Young Memorial Fund.
Wayne was born April 10, 1925 in Mason City, the son of Vincent and Evelyn (Caco) Young. He attended Mason City schools. During World Ward II, Wayne enlisted in the Marines on July 3, 1943 and was discharged March 19, 1946 as a Sergeant. Most of his career was spent as a mechanic. He also spent eight years in the Sheriff's posse in New Mexico.
Wayne is survived by his very special and best friend, Marge Schmolke, Clear Lake; five children, Wayne Young, Reno, Nev., John Young, Missouri, Judy Zulfiqar, California, Kevin Young, Texas and Linda Davis, California; and two step-children, David Owens and Mark Owens.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
Jeannette Caspers, 71, of Swaledale, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center - Mason City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Hetrick presiding. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Swaledale. Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, Thornton, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Jeannette Louise (Ashland) Caspers was born Sept. 19, 1932 on a farm near Clear Lake to Ole and Florence (Paulson) Ashland. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
Jeannette graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1950 then worked at Ben Franklin in Clear Lake. On Feb. 14, 1954 Jeannette was united in marriage with Dale Caspers. They farmed at Swaledale their entire married
life. This year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Those who knew Jeannette will remember her for all the good things she did for her church, her family, her friends and all others whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; children, Jon (Carol) Caspers, Swaledale, Mary Caspers, Kanawha, Iowa, Bill (Deb) Caspers, Swaledale, Lori Caspers, Mason City; grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Servantez, Joni, Billy, David and Brian; great grandson, Drew Servantez; sister, Elaine (Jim) Olson, Garner, Iowa; brother, Bob (Betty) Ashland, Sequim, Wash.; step-sisters, Madilyn Norton, Marilyn (Linn) Laage; step-brother, Richard (Barbara) Benham; brother-in-law, Orville (Bernice) Caspers; many cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Marie Ashland; brother-in-law, Bill Wreghitt; niece, Kim Lewis and nephew, Jack Caspers.
Wayne E. Skyrme, 81, 20 Sunset View Dr., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Thom Christians officiating. Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Military Honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to the Wayne Skyrme Memorial Fund.
Wayne was born March 12, 1923, in Angus, Neb., the son of Davies A.J. and Edna L. (Frederick) Skyrme. After high school he enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served during WWII until 1946. He married
Mary Jean Deist McGreevey in 1946. He lived in Charles City, Iowa, working at Citizens Bank, later for Prudential Ins. Co. He later moved to Mason City and worked for the Prudential Life, and was the director of the Frances Lauer Juvenile Home.
Wayne married
Clarice "Mike" Nelson on Sept. 11, 1979 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He then worked at Handicap Village (Opportunity Village) for 25 years as a house parent and Cottage Director. Wayne enjoyed photography and traveling. He was one of the organizers and a member of the Arrowhead Club in Clear Lake. Wayne was awarded both the Melvin Jones Award from the Lions Club and the Employee of the Year at Opportunity Village.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Clarice "Mike" Skyrme, Clear Lake; daughter, Terri Jambor and her husband, Robert, Lake Geneva, Wis.; son, Charles McGreevey and his wife, Karen, Mason City; stepchildren, Linda Ferguson, Ventura, Iowa, Craig Nelson and his wife, Tricia, Creede, Colo., and Kim Thompson and her husband, Larry, Clear Lake; two sisters, Genevieve Steele and her husband, Wallace, Ham Lake, Minn. and Ruth Krueger, Charles City, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Lesley Bush and her husband, Jeff, Jeff Ferguson, Coleman Nelson, Caleb Nelson, Cameron Nelson, Gregory Thompson and Lindsey Thompson; step-great-grandchildren Landon and Larrisa Bush; and five nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, and two brothers, Gerald and Richard.

Jess Vaughn Bainter, 81, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.
Jess was born Sept. 6, 1922, on a farm near Zearing, Iowa, the son of Jess and Fern (Miller) Bainter. He attended school in Marshalltown. He later moved to Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1939. On visits to Clear Lake he met Julie Whitney and they were married
on Aug. 15, 1942, in Glendale, Calif.
In December 1942, he joined the US Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet, serving as a flight clerk flying out of Hamilton Field, Calif., throughout the Pacific Theatre. He received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights from June 1944 through October 1945. The citation reads: "as Flight Clerk on transport aircraft, Corporal Bainter completed one thousand one hundred eighty-two hours of over-water operational flying, often within combat theatres where enemy fire was both probable and expected. The high degree of competence and exemplary devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Bainter reflect great credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces."
During the war years, a son and daughter were born in California. Following the war the family moved back to Iowa. Jess (known to friends and family as Vaughn) worked as a Standard Oil salesman, as a local radio announcer in Clear Lake and Mason City, and turned to sales, working for "remembrance" advertising firms until his retirement in the early 1990's. A second son was born in Iowa.
Vaughn was known for his positive outlook and outgoing personality. He was a talented, natural singer, often performing at sales conventions as well as for family and friends. As a traveling salesman, he was known to have driven one exceptionally reliable car for over 250,000 miles. After a career in sales in Iowa, and later in California (1960's to the 1990's) he and his wife returned to Clear Lake. Jess spent the last few years at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
Jess is survived by three children, Michael V. Bainter and his wife, Nancy, of Pacific Grove, Calif., Lani M. Cook, of Clear Lake, and Whitney J. Bainter, of Goleta, Calif.; one brother, Wendy Bainter, of Banning, Calif.; two grandchildren, Rebecca Franks and her husband, Dan, of Clear Lake, and Matthew Cook, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and one great-granddaughter, Emma G. Franks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Fern Bainter, Seal Beach, Calif.; his wife, Juliette Lila (Whitney) Bainter, Clear Lake.
There will be no memorial service; the immediate family will have a private service.
Memorial contributions from friends and family should be sent to the Humane Society of North Iowa in Mason City.

James E. "Jim" Brechler, age 65, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, longtime resident of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at the home of his daughter in Coralville, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 at the Mallard Catholic Church in Mallard, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mallard. Memorial donations can be made in Jim's memory to Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation at 505 5th. Avenue, Suite 444, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
Jim was born July 21, 1939 in Mallard, the son of Harold and Mary (Kendall) Brechler. He enlisted in the United States Navy following high school. Jim married
Margaret Yvonne Schupfer on Dec. 31, 1960. They resided in Clear Lake for most of their lives where Jim was associated with Harker's and H&H Distribution. In addition, he was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Jim's pastimes included hunting, fishing, enjoying the company of good friends and traveling with his wife, Yvonne. In 2002, they moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio to be near their son, David, and other immediate family members.
His family includes a son, David, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; daughter, Mary Paulson and her husband, Chris, of Coralville; brother, Ron Brechler and his wife, Vicki, of Mt. Vernon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Yvonne.

SPC. Dustin Scot Colby, 20, of 513 12th Ave. N. Clear Lake, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in a semi-tractor rollover accident near Camp Dodge.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., Sept. 1, at the Iowa National Guard Armory, 1160 19th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa, with Chaplain Luder officiating. Interment will be in the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett, Iowa with military honors by the Iowa National Guard. Family suggests memorials to SPC. Dustin Scot Colby memorial fund.
Dustin was born Sept. 2, 1983, in Mason City, the son of Jerry Colby and Misti Slocum. He attended school in Mason City, Northwood, Iowa and then moved to Albuquerque. N.M., where he graduated from Sandia High School in 2002. Dustin moved back to Clear Lake after high school and enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was mobilizing to Ft. Sill, Okla. to serve in the Middle East, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dustin was well known for his favorite phrase "Get Er Done." He enjoyed riding motorcycles, jet skiing, water skiing, hunting, fishing, rock climbing, downhill skiing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Mason City Baptist Church and Iowa Army National Guard.
Dustin will be sadly missed by his father, Jerry Colby, Northwood; mother, Misti Thoe and her husband, Lance, Clear Lake; two brothers, Steven and Seth; four sisters Miquela, Danielle, Megan and Nicole; maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Lou Wood, Mason City, Gary and Kathy Slocum, Waterloo, Iowa, Stan Grell, Clear Lake, Bev and Don Girardot, Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Kim and Linda Dockwell, Ventura, Larry Thoe, Fairmont, Minn.; maternal great-grandfather, Harold Kothenbeutel, Sheffield, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Dave and Darlene Colby, Manly, Iowa; a special friend, Heather Schulze, Clear Lake, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Wallace "DuWayne" Haugen, 71, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Pastor Audrey Westendorf Young officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.
Wallace "DuWayne" Haugen was born on Dec. 9, 1932, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the son of Wallie and Ruth Idelle (Garlock) Haugen. He attended and received his education in the Fertile and Clear Lake School System. DuWayne was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 5, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was stationed with the 96th Field Artillery Battalion and served in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on Oct. 20, 1954, at Ft. Carson, Colo. After his honorable discharge, DuWayne worked for a tiling company in Fertile, Iowa and for Zeidler Concrete Products in Clear Lake. He was united in marriage to Cleta Sliger on July 8, 1955, in Blairstown, Iowa. After their marriage, he worked for Bob Nichol's Phillip 66 station in Clear Lake. In 1966 he began working as a mechanic for Dahlen Transportation Company and worked there for 25 years until his retirement. After his retirement he worked at a fishing resort in Canada.
He enjoyed fishing and camping in Canada.
He was a member of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cleta Haugen, of Clear Lake; a daughter, Christine Zieman, of Goodell, Iowa; two grandchildren, Beth Zieman of Thornton, Iowa and her fiancé, Dane Holmgaard, of Ackley, Iowa, and Jason Zieman of Goodell; two brothers, Keith Haugen and his wife, Cathy, of Clear Lake, and Myron Haugen and his wife, Pat, of Clear Lake; three brothers-in-law, Jim Sliger and his wife, Nancy, of Rockford, Iowa, Roger Gealow and his wife, Beverly, of Story City, Iowa, and Robert Sliger and his wife, Sandy, of Mason City; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Deloris Haugen and two brothers, Dale and Mark Haugen.
Victor J. Miller, 73, of 620 Briarstone Dr., Apt. 31, Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz, officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where a flag folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.
Memorials may be given to the Victor J. Miller Memorial Fund.
Victor J. Miller was born April 8, 1931 in Stacyville, Iowa, a son of Hubert and Rena (Michels) Miller. Victor was raised on a farm near Stacyville and received his education in the Stacyville area. He served in the US Army during the Korean War as an artillery specialist.
He married
Norma Jean Feldt on April 8, 1952 at Osage, Iowa. Norma Jean preceded him in death in 1985.
Victor worked at Jacob E. Decker/Armour Foods for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He later served as a maintenance supervisor at the IOOF Home, Mason City for four years.

Marie G. Coe on May 23, 1986 at Mason City.
He enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards, picture jigsaw puzzles, and reading. Victor and Marie enjoyed spending several winters in McAllen, Texas.
He held several memberships, including Fellowship Club and Life Membership in the VFW and he served as an Elder at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Miller, Mason City; daughters, Karen (Michael) Woodcock, Rochester, Minn., Sandi Cates, Clear Lake, Janet Sampson, Mason City; one step daughter, Suzanne (Ron) Minert, Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Jennifer Sampson, Russ Sampson, Jason Cates, and Joey Cates; six step-grandchildren, Deborah (Mike) Matarrozo, Robert Coe and wife (Allison), Abby (Rob) Botham, Travis Bailey, Ryan Bailey, and Matt Bailey; six step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Mayer, Austin, Minn. and Magdaline (Duane) Judd, Albert Lea, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Miller, Austin, Minn., Mary Ellen Miller, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Jean; brothers, Ivan and Leo, step brother, Clarence, and a stepson, James D. Coe.
Randy Dean Bryan, 48, of 11 South 19th St, Clear Lake, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Duncan Heights Care Center, Garner, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Randy Bryan Memorial Fund.
Randy was born Aug. 16, 1956, the son of Roger and Janice (Zahner) Bryan at Webster City, Iowa. After high school Randy worked for the Clear Lake Bakery. He attended N.I.A.A.C., and graduated with a degree in drafting. Randy worked as a draftsman for Andrews Prestress Concrete, Clear Lake and Seabee Corp, Hampton, Iowa. He also drove truck for Ruan and Iowa Motor Transport, Garner.

Debbie Edgar on July 3, 1981 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, collecting old coins, playing cards, cribbage, and being on the computer. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Randy is survived by his wife, Debbie Bryan, Clear Lake; two daughters, Heather Sheahan and Andrea Bryan, both of Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Morgan Sheahan, Clear Lake; his father Roger Bryan, Gowrie, Iowa; two brothers, Ivan (YeVonne) Bryan, Jewell, Iowa; Jim (Wendy) Bryan, Webster City, Iowa; a sister, Jenny David of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; mother-in-law, Bonnie Edgar, Clear Lake, and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, and father-in-law, Darrell Edgar.
Marie E. Mourlam, 93, of 110 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Richard L. Scott, Lay Assistant at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
Marie was born Aug. 23, 1911 in Kensett, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Anna Hildahl Myhre. She attended school in Kensett.
Marie worked in Manly, Iowa and later at a laundromat in Mason City. She worked as a waitress at the Surf Ballroom for over 20 years and at E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake.
Marie married
Clifford Mourlam on Aug. 24, 1950 in Nevada, Iowa. She enjoyed dancing and was a very good cook.
Marie is survived by her husband, Clifford, Clear Lake; two sisters, Mabel Welch and her husband, Roy and Agnes Reese, both of Northwood, Iowa and one brother, Harry Myhre and his wife, Dorothy, Hanlontown, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elmer, Oliver and Stanley Myhre and one son, Richard Anderson.
