Harold F. Knop, 76, of Clear Lake, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
His funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, Iowa with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Louise Boehnke who accompanied a vocal duet of Brandi Hiscocks and Steve Livingston and congregational hymns. Ushers were Philip Boehnke and Mark Boehnke. Honorary bearers were Leeza Phinney, Mona Mimms, Lee Knop, Jay Knop, Mark Knop, Todd Knop and Chris Knop. Pallbearers were Chad Knop, Ryan Hiscocks, Ben Livingston, Michael Leslie, Jenny Montgomery, Emily Hiscocks, Erin Hiscocks and Kelly Leslie. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or St. John's Lutheran Church Building and Window Fund.
Harold Frank Knop was born the eldest of three boys on May 12, 1928 in rural Garner to Julius and Emma (Rayhons) Knop. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1946 and farmed on the family farm until 1989. Harold married
his high school sweetheart, Ruth Miller, on June 25, 1947. Harold enjoyed a very active life. He enjoyed fishing "up north" and in Florida. Harold and Ruth began traveling to Florida in the winter beginning in 1983 and after their retirement from farming they made Florida their winter home. Their Florida family is very special and they have numerous friendships which they enjoy every winter. Harold had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and shared with them his love for fireworks. He spent many nights lighting up the sky on the farm. His family is thankful for the special gift of his love and for sharing his faith in the Lord and passing on that love for the Lord to his family.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ruth, of Clear Lake; four children, Julie (Steve) Livingston of Clear Lake, Greg (Carolyn) Knop of Nevada, Iowa, Denise (Kerry) Hiscocks of Ventura and Karen (Jim) Leslie of Maple Grove, Minn.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Ben (Traci) Livingston and children Jacob, Noah and Drew of Clear Lake, Chad (Brooke) Knop of Nevada, Ryan (Brandi) Hiscocks and children, Riley and Parker of Britt, Iowa, Jenny Montgomery and daughter, Bailey, of Nevada, Emily Hiscocks of Ventura, Erin Hiscocks of Ventura, Michael Leslie of Mankato, Minn. and Kelly Leslie of Maple Grove, Minn.; two brothers, Ronnie (Wilma) Knop of Ventura and Ken (Virginia) Knop of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl, and his parents. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
Donna M. Nelson, 80, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at her home. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan and Msgr. Joseph Slepicka officiating. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Britt, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, Opportunity Village or St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Donna was born October 25, 1923 on a farm outside Britt, the daughter of Marie and Ray Doughan. She was united in marriage to Raymond L. Nelson on Oct. 27, 1942 in Britt. They were married
for 61 years.
Donna attended country school in Hancock County. She was employed by Folkmann's Dairy for nine years, Dr. Rae Bieber for 28 years as his dental assistant and Dr. Tom and Lisa Bieber for 14 years. All together she worked for the Bieber family for 42 years. Donna loved to clean homes, garden, and visit with her neighbors. Another love was to make peanut brittle at Christmas and disperse it to family, friends and downtown merchants. Her nickname was the "Peanut Brittle Lady."
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake and Catholic Daughters (CCD). Sbe was an usher and a member of the St. Jude Circle at St. Patrick's. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Clear Lake Women's Club.
Donna will be sadly missed and remembered by her son, Rollan Nelson, Aurora, Colo. and her daughter, Becky Buchholz and her husband, Stephen, of Jefferson City, Mo. She had two grandchildren, Anne and her husband, Kevin Bennett, Savannah, Mo. and Chris Buchholz, Jefferson City, Mo. She is survived by one brother, Allan Doughan and wife, Frances; sisters-in-law, Marcie Doughan, Bonnie Doughan, Grace Nelson, Betty Lou Nelson, and brother-in-law, Don, and his wife, Joy Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray, on Nov. 30, 2003; one son, Randy; three brothers, Dale, Gene and Larry Doughan; two sisters, Shirley Ann Sallade and Charlotte Doughan.

Georgia Charleen Cable Brown, 86, of the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Services will be held at a later date.
Georgia Charleen Cable Brown, only child of John T. and Sina Z. (Clark) Cable was born Dec. 2, 1917 at Sheffield, Iowa. She grew up in the Rockwell-Swaledale area and graduated from the Swaledale High School in 1936. For many years, Georgia lived in Nora Springs, Iowa, later moving to Clear Lake, where she had lived the last 45 years. She worked as a waitress for many area cafes. Georgia was well liked by all her customers and a favorite waitress among many. She was also a member of the Clear Lake First United Methodist Church.
After retiring, Georgia made many trips to Texas to visit grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and visiting with everybody.
Georgia will be greatly missed by her son, John L. (Jack) Brown and his wife, Nancy, Clear Lake; her daughter, Sharon K. Edwards Carberry and her husband, Howard, Lorena, Texas; three grandchildren, Lori Carberry Wacker and her husband, Ronald, Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa Carberry Newman and her husband, Steve, Junction City, Kan., and Mark H. Carberry and Tammy Jackson, Paris, Texas. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Brittany Wacker, Fort Worth, Texas, Stevie, Chris, and Alisha Newman, Junction City, Kan., Kelly Carberry, Corsicana, Texas, and Clayton and Cameron Carberry, Paris, Texas; and one great-great-granddaughter, Courtney Lee Gonzales, Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Renee Wacker.

Mabel Bertha Anderson Francis, 100, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania, Mason City, with Pastor Keith Scott and Pastor Jim Allard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family will greet friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Mabel Bertha Anderson Francis was born on Nov. 14, 1903, in Rake, Iowa, the daughter of James Peter and Clara Minnie (Johnson) Juel. She was raised in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School. She was united in marriage to Melvin S. Anderson on July 4, 1922, in Albert Lea, Minn. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1974. After their marriage together they farmed in the Pemberton, Minn., area before moving to Mason City in 1944. Mabel worked at Decker's Packing Plant and also worked for 20 years for State Brand Creamery (AMPI) in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Otha Francis on July 1, 1975, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Mabel enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and internationally. She enjoyed visiting her sister in Tucson, Az. and her brother in Baltimore, M.D., crocheting, crafts, playing cards, and she loved to entertain.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City and a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage, Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Wood of Clear Lake, Caren Ellis and her husband, Larry, of Mason City, George Anderson of Canon City, Col., and Wilford Anderson and his wife, Kathie, of Tucson, Az.; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Klaassen, of Clear Lake and a brother, Ernest Juel of Baltimore, M.D. as well as Otha Francis's family in Osage and other relatives and friends.
Besides her husbands, Melvin S. Anderson and Otha Francis, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty Jean Kigar; grandchildren, Rhonda Wood Smith, Debra Wood, Brian Anderson, and Melva Jean Ross; two sisters, Alice Edminster, and Ruth Kramer; brother, Lawrence Juel; son-in-law, Ron Wood, and a daughter-in-law, Muriel Anderson.

Colleen (Steenblock) Kaster, 48, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 21, at United Methodist Church, Kanawha, Iowa. Interment was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell, Iowa.
Colleen Renee Steenblock, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Gano) Steenblock was born Dec. 3, 1955, in Belmond, Iowa. She was raised on a farm southeast of Kanawha, Iowa until her father passed away in 1968. At that time the family moved into Kanawha. Colleen graduated from Kanawha High School in 1974. She was confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Kanawha.
As a child, Colleen enjoyed spending time swinging on the swings and playing with Barbies. She and her daughter, Kelsie, loved to shop, fish, and spend quality time together. Colleen had beautiful handwriting and would spend hours practicing her calligraphy. She never gave a gift without writing a note or a limerick to include with it. She always thought of others before herself.
Colleen was a former member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Robert Kaster, of Forest City, Iowa; daughter, Kelsie, of Forest City; her mother, Dorothy Steenblock, of Kanawha; two sisters: Susan (James) Adams of Webster City, Iowa and Brenda Steenblock of Belmond; two brothers, Michael (Patricia) Mongan of Fulton, Miss. and Ralph Steenblock of Kanawha; three nephews, Bruce, Clint, and Joshua; great-niece, Katelyn; aunt and uncle Richard (Rhea) Steenblock, of Belmond; brother-in-law, Randy; three sisters-in-law, Sharon, Deanna, and Penny; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey, in 1968; grandparents, father-in-law, Robert; sister-in-law, Jody, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Freeman L. "Dutch" Riseling, 90, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 in Michigan City, Ind.
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 15, in Michigan City. Cremation has taken place. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Mr. Riseling was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Washta, Iowa, to Henry and Corda Conley Riseling. On Aug. 7, 1938, in Woodward, Iowa, he married
Margaret Newland, who survives in Michigan City.
Survivors also include one son, Robert (Lois) Riseling, Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Suzanne Moore, Michigan City and Kay Yeatman, Ruidoso, N.M.; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Riseling was a former station owner and district manager for Sinclair Oil in Iowa. He then went to work for the state of Iowa as an inspector. Mr. Riseling was a member of Earl Road Christian Church and F&AM Lodge 83 in Michigan City.

Ardie L. "Red" Lovick, age 77, of Washington, Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at the United Presbyterian Home following complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with the Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Interment with military rites took place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Lending Hands Adult Day Care or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington.
Ardie was born July 7, 1927 in Fertile, Iowa the son of Henry O. and Ida (Hanson) Lovick. After graduating from high school, Ardie graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1951. Ardie served in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 7, 1952 he was united in marriage to Juanita Badger in Montezuma, Iowa. He was a resident of Washington, Iowa since 1967.
In his earlier years he was a vocational agriculture and shop teacher at Mingo, Iowa from 1951-1956. He was then a feed mill operator for 10 years and later worked for Kaiser Fertilizer Company in Keota, Iowa from 1966 1972 where he was district manager. Ardie owned the Sears Catalog store in Washington for 13 years. For 14 years Ardie was employed by the Washington Community School District as a school bus driver and, at the same time, was a self employed furniture restorer and owner of Washington Prairie Antiques. Ardie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council for six years. He was also a member of Washington Kiwanis A.Mer's, and the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club since 1971. He enjoyed working on his '57 Chevy and Cushman scooter. Ardie was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita "Nita" Lovick of Washington; son, Steven K. Lovick and wife, Emily, of Ft. Smith, Ark.; daughter, Debra Jo Rees and husband, Loren, of Boone, Iowa; and daughter, Robyn Marie Feik and husband, Jim, of Letts, Iowa; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three brothers, James Lovick and wife, Alvera, of Fertile, Iowa; Leo Lovick and wife, Marlys, of Ackley, Iowa; Larry Lovick and wife, Diane, of Forest City, Iowa; five sisters, Murlette Hagen, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Pearl Hanna, of Clear Lake, Alice Toresdahl, of Clear Lake, Elaine Ollenburg and husband, Bob, of Ventura, Iowa, and Doris Bonnstetter and husband, Frank, of Clear Lake.
Ardie was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Karl in 1997; one brother, Paul; and two sisters, Amy Brakke and Irene Brakke.
Ruth E. Nelson, 86, Osage, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at the Mitchell County Regional Healthcare Center. A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 29, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. The family will visit with friends and relatives at the church following the service. Inurnment was held at the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Ruth E. Nelson Memorial Fund.
Ruth was born Jan. 3, 1918 in Osage, the daughter of William L. and Johanna Charlotte (Becker) Dieterichs. Ruth attended Osage High School. She did house work in Osage. Ruth married
Conrad Nelson on March 17, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Osage. They lived in Plymouth, Albert City, West Bend, Kensett, and Des Moines, Iowa and in 1974 moved to Clear Lake. Ruth moved to Osage in 1992.
Ruth loved joking with people, cooking, and having family come to Clear Lake for the 4th of July. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Birdie Hauge and her husband, Mike, Madison, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kelly Hauge and Cory Hauge, St. Charles, Mo., Crystal Hauge, Shawnee, Kan. and Teri Craig and her husband, Keith, Yates, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Mickael Craig; three step-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hopper, Kiersten and Kameron Craig; a sister-in-law, Gert Dieterichs, Osage and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad in 1991; one son, Dennis Nelson; grandson, Mike Hauge; two sisters and six brothers.

Donald L. Larson, 72, formerly of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. Services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Richard L. Scott, Lay Assistant at Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Family suggests memorials to Donald L. Larson Memorial Fund.
Donald was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Clear Lake, the son of Carl and Ida Mae Larson. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and then attended Hamilton Business College.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following the service he moved back to Clear Lake. He worked at Mercy Hospital as a custodian and later Holiday Motor Lodge in Clear Lake.
Donald is survived by a daughter, Kristene Strickland; Donald Larson Jr. and a step-son, Dan Eshelman, all of Marshalltown, Iowa; granddaughter, Haley Jo Kapayou and one sister, Caroline Parks, Brentwood, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Eugene Elmer Wright, age 73, of Osage, Iowa died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery with Military Honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Eugene was born Nov. 22, 1930 at the Nissen Hospital in Osage, the son of Elmer and Nora (Wheeler) Wright. He was educated in Osage schools, graduating from Osage High School in May of 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July 18, 1949, serving in the South Pacific. He was in the Naval Reserves for seven years. Eugene was united in marriage to Mayzee Ring on Dec. 14, 1952, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, Iowa. He started doing plumbing and heating for Harry Johnson in 1953, after which he was employed by others in this same area of work. Eugene started Wright Plumbing and Heating in July of 1977, working a total of 45 years in the plumbing and heating business. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage American Legion, Osage V.F.W., and Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M. Eugene enjoyed sports, especially football, wrestling and fishing. He had a cottage at Clear Lake for 15 years, where he spent many happy days on the lake.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Mayzee Wright, Osage; three sons, Dean Wright and wife, Julie, of Clear Lake, and children Nicholas and Diana; Douglas Wright and wife, Jean, of Osage, and children Jonathan, Stephanie and Emily; David Wright and wife, Cornelia, of Clear Lake, and son Justin; three sisters, Marian (Roger) Anderson of Dickeyville, Wis., Jeanette (Herbert) Heimer of Minneapolis, Minn., Norma Jean (Bernard) Hoff of Belmond, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lois Dinger of Riceville, Iowa, Marlene (Glen) Dillon of Cresco, Iowa and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nora Wright, and a granddaughter, Chelsey Marie Wright.

Janet Jean "Grimm" Vernon, 65, Sparks, Okla., formerly of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at Integris Medical Center, Oklahoma, City, Okla. A funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2 p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Janet Grimm Vernon Memorial Fund.
Janet was born June 14, 1939 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Hazel (Grell) Meloy. She lived in Clear Lake and Mason City most of her life. Janet married
Morton Grimm on Nov. 25, 1955. He died in 1979. She worked at Mode O' Day in Mason City, E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake, Sperry Univac/ Unisys, Clear Lake, and the Mile Post 194 Cafe in Clear Lake.
Janet married
Bill Vernon on Aug. 22, 1987. She continued to work at the Mile Post 194 where she was known for her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls and biscuits. They moved to Oklahoma in 1994.
Janet loved nature, plants, people, cooking, baking and candy making. She never complained about anything and very much loved her family and friends. Janet was a very hard worker. Special to Janet was writing letters and receiving mail and her dog, "Peaches."
Janet is survived by her husband, Bill Vernon, Stroud, Okla.; three children, Morton E. Grimm Jr. and his wife, Barb, Mason City, Sheila O. Rapp and her husband, Donald, Garner, Iowa and Bunnie Winters and her husband, Jim, Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Dusty J. Velma Jacobsen, 85, of Clear Lake, formerly of Thornton, Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 29, at the United Methodist Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Rose Calderon-Kahn presiding and words of remembrance offered by Mr. Red Haugland. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton.
Velma Marie Jacobsen was born March 9, 1919 at Goodell, Iowa a daughter of George and Lorena (Jenison) Luick. She graduated from Thornton High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in country school and at the Thornton School for 10 years. She later worked at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Clear Lake.
On January 20, 1946 Velma was united in marriage with Hans Peter Jacobsen at Mason City. They made their home in Thornton and lived there for over 50 years. Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the UMW. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Pleasant Valley Golf Club. Her hobbies included playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived life to the fullest and lived each day as if it were her last.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Hans; daughter, Sue (Kirby) Meints, Forth Worth, Texas; son, Don (Donna) Jacobsen, Garner, Iowa; daughter, Jan (Steven) Gobeli, Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many close nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Velma in death are her parents; three sisters, Voral Baker, Jean Jackson and Mildred Luick and one brother, Donald Luick.
