Andrew (Andy) I. Jackson, 95, of Highway 9 E., Manly, Iowa died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Andrew I. Jackson Memorial Fund.
Andy was born March 27, 1909 in Pipestone, Minn. the son of Hubert Andrew and Violet Pearl Usher Jackson. He attended rural country school in Cerro Gordo County. He served in the U.S. Marines during the WWII.
He lived in Des Moines, Iowa for many years and worked for Firestone Tire Co. He later lived in Goshen, Ind. and in Algona, Iowa where he worked in an airplane parts factory. He owned a restaurant in Britt.
Andy enjoyed dancing, working on his cars, joking around and bowling.
He is survived by six children, Dorothy Marie Vance, Des Moines, Andrew Jackson Jr. and his wife, Lucy, Goshen, Eleanor Hogan, Waterville, Minn., Darline Price, Earlham, Iowa, Arline Evans and her husband, Larry, Cape Cod, Fla. and Eunice Benner and her husband, Larry, Albert Lea, Minn.; his sister, Marcella Thomas, Clear Lake; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marella Jackson; sister, Rachael Johnson and her husband, Kenneth; brother, Fred Jackson and his wife, Marguerite; brother-in-law, Charles Thomas and three grandchildren.

Lyle L. Carrott, 93, of 1400 7th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 15, 10:30 a.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey, Hospice Chaplin of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Lyle L. Carrott memorial fund or Hospice of North Iowa.
Lyle was born May 27, 1911 on the Carrott farm in rural Rockford, the son of Franklin James and Della Maude (Cheney) Carrott. He received his education in rural Cerro Gordo and graduated from Rockford High School in 1930.
On Jan. 21, 1933 he was united in marriage to Irene Kock at the Methodist parsonage in Mason City. Together they farmed for 30 years before leaving the farm and going into business as Geneva Livestock Sales in Geneva, Minn. They were in livestock sales for 27 years. They moved to Clear Lake in May of 1989.
Lyle and Irene enjoyed each other's company and spent much of their retirement fishing in the Northern Lakes of Minnesota and traveling the southern states in the winter. He enjoyed outdoor activities, fishing, hunting, woodworking and traveling. He was a former member of Geneva United Methodist Church, Rockford Masonic Lodge and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Mason City.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 71 years of marriage, Irene; two sons, Larry Carrott and his wife, Miora, Peculiar, Mo. and Robert Carrott and his wife, Kay, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, David Carrott and his wife, Vicky, St. Regis, Mont., Julie Wolcott and her husband, Dana, Lake Stevens, Wash., Eric Carrrott, Belton, Mo., Rodney Carrott and his wife, Kimberly, Ankeny, Iowa, Brenda Molencamp and her husband, Craig, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Brian Carrott and his wife, Susan, Mason City, Iowa and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Pecht; an infant son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Dixie.
Charles (Chuck) Kenneth Paulson, 84, of North Fort Myers, Fla. died Dec. 11, 2004. Graveside services will be Friday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. at Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Chuck was born in Dike, Iowa, July 6, 1920, the son of Merritt and Cora E. (Peterson) Paulson. Chuck served in the US Army during WWII. He was also a civil engineer in Iowa and Illinois for 35 years and a member of the Lions Club. He moved to Ft. Meyers in 1994.
Robert E. Galloway, 77, of Oswego, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1927 in Washington, Iowa the son of the late Earl and Ruth (Foster) Galloway.
Dr. H.R.(Ray) Wilson, age 78, of Clear Lake, formerly of Forest City, Iowa died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Memorial service were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City with the Rev. Doug Snyder officiating. Inurnment was at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Harold Raymond Wilson was born in Woodbine, Iowa on Sept. 8, 1926, the son of John V. and Virginia (Snyder) Wilson. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1943 and served in the US Navy during W.W.II as a radio operator aboard the USS Bobolink. Following his honorable discharge he began attending Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif.
On June 5, 1949 he married
Diane Lee Mills in Webster City, Iowa. The couple returned to California where Ray completed his coursework. He then did his pre-optometry work at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa before attending North Illinois College of Optometry. After graduating in 1955, he began practicing in Forest City.
An active member of the community, Dr. Wilson served six years on City Council, was a member and former president of the Forest City Lions Club, a Mason in the Masonic Lodge, a 50 year member of the VFW and a member of the United Methodist Church. Professionally, he served six years on the Iowa Board of Optometry Examiners, was a long standing member of the Iowa Optometric Association, serving a term as president. He was honored as Optometrist of the Year in 1968. In 1992 he retired from practice and moved to Clear Lake.
Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also loved gourmet cooking and entertaining family and friends. His family remembers what a wonderful husband, father and grandfather he was.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Wilson, of Clear Lake; children, Kristine Lewis and husband, Riley, Forest City, Marsha Wood and husband, Robin, Forest Lake, Minn. and Mark Wilson and wife, Barbara, Battlefield, Mo. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Todd (April) Lewis, Karey Lewis, Sara Adkins, Matthew Wilson and Michael Wilson.
Dr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Dean Wilson.

Linda G. (Dudgeon) White, 56, of Mapleton, Minn., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Avenue South, with Pastor Jan Burnett officiating. According to Linda's wishes, her body will be cremated following services.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Linda was born on Oct. 22, 1948, in Mason City, the daughter of Dorothy and Shirley Dudgeon. She attended school in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School. She went on to study nursing at Methodist Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She worked at Methodist Hospital after graduating. She later moved to Kansas City, where she was employed as a nurse at a hospital there. She also was employed at a Presbyterian Church camp while living in Kansas City, working as the camp nurse and art instructor. She returned to Clear Lake where she worked at Unisys before being employed at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Linda often served as a private-duty nurse throughout her nursing career, along with her regular jobs.
While living in Kansas City, Linda married
Mike White. They had one daughter, Lisa.
Linda enjoyed being involved in 4-H when she was young, and playing the piano. She continued to enjoy music later in life, as well as painting, sewing and animals. She was a loving mother and caretaker, and was very devoted to her daughter, Lisa, and granddaughter, Lydia. Linda especially enjoyed taking walks and reading books with Lydia. Linda also liked spending quality time cooking together with Lisa and Lydia.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kuchenbecker, and her husband, Nathaneil, of Mapleton; a granddaughter, Lydia; her parents, Dorothy and Shirley Dudgeon of Clear Lake; brothers, Michael and his wife, Catherine, of Kansas City, Patrick of Clear Lake, and Peter of Des Moines; an aunt, Gloria Dudgeon, and two great aunts, Fanny Zeiglar of Mason City and Elsie Verhow of Kanawha, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Ann.

Gary E. Leach, 66, of Bartow, Fla., died of lung disease Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at the Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 West Central Ave., Winter Haven, Fla., 33881.
Gary was born Jan. 1, 1938 in Mason City, Iowa. He was a retired truck driver and a part-time supervisor for Norlyan IMC in Barto.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Leach; one son, Gary L. Leach; a daughter, Tammy Johns, all of Bartow; one step-son, Dennis Parker, Eagle Lake, Fla.; one sister, Janice Molinsky, Clear Lake; six grandchildren; a host of aunt and uncles and 56 classmates of the class of 1956. He will be sadly missed by all.
Mark Steven Monson, 52, 14957 Maple St., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 23, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mark Monson Memorial Fund.
Mark was born March 27, 1952, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Evelyn (Welsh) Monson. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1970 and attended Hamilton Business College. Mark married
Marcia Gardalen on September 10, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Twin daughters Cristina and Cortney were born May 17, 1991. Mark battled several illnesses throughout his life. His strengths and courage grew through his fight, bringing much love and understanding to his family and friends.
Mark's hobbies included golfing, bow hunting, picking up "nicks" with his daughters and just being outdoors. Mark was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the All Vet's Golf Course in Clear Lake.
Mark is survived by his wife, Marcia Monson and two daughters, Cristina and Cortney, Clear Lake; four brothers, Arlen "Peep" Monson and his wife, Jan, Charles City, Iowa, Dean Monson and his wife, Pat, Clear Lake, Alan Monson and his wife, Donna, Clear Lake, and Mike Monson and his wife, Karen, Altoona, Iowa; four sisters, Bonnie Holmgaard, Rockford, Ill, Rita Lee, Clear Lake, Shirley Knapp and her husband, Jim, Iowa City, Iowa and Gloria Kline and her husband, Mike, Bettendorf, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many special friends including the staff, patients and families at Mercy Dialysis Center.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene.
Margaret Minnie Mahaffey, 90, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard Scott officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles, Minn. Family suggests memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church Do Day Ladies or Opportunity Village, Clear Lake.
Margaret Minnie Kopischke was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Alma City, Minn., the daughter of August Carl and Minnie Johanna (Gerdts) Kopischke. She graduated from Waseca High School in Waseca, Minn.
On Oct. 21, 1934 she was united in marriage to Jerome Charles Mahaffey at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waseca, Minn. Together they owned and managed a hatchery in St. Charles, Minn. for 25 years. Margaret moved to Clear Lake in 1976.
Margaret was very active in her church circle and with Do Day Ladies sewing quilts which were sent to people in need around the world. She was an avid gardener and cherished time with her family and many friends.
Margaret is survived by two sons, Ralph Mahaffey and his wife, Carolyn, of Clear Lake and Gary Mahaffey, of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sherri Luick and her husband, David, of Lakeville, Minn., Mark Mahaffey and his wife, Kim, Clear Lake, Michael Mahaffey and his wife, Amy, Clear Lake, Shannon Howe and her husband, Brett of Gibbon, Minn., 10 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Minnie Hanson, of River Falls, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers; four sisters, and one great-grandson.

Paul Austin, 77, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m,. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. South, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake V.F.W. Post # 4868. Memorials may be directed to Paul Austin Memorial Fund.
Paul was born June 2, 1927 in Madison, Wis., the son of Nathaniel and Doretta (Strohmenger) Austin. He attended school at Sun Prairie High School and Platteville State Teachers College. Paul enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. serving in WWII, he was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1951. He was united in marriage to Eunice (Wilke) Austin on Nov. 24, 1951. To this union three children were born. He moved to California and worked for Kellogg Company as a salesman. He moved to Wisconsin in 1964 and worked for Land O' Lakes, he also worked for A.M.P.I. In 1975 he started the American Cheesemen Inc., retiring in 2000. In 1952 Paul tried out for the St. Louis Browns baseball team and worked very hard trying out to be a pitcher, after a month Rogers Hornsby called him into the office and said, "Austin, the best advice I can give you ais to get a real job!"!
Paul enjoyed golfing, fishing, baseball, boxing, and playing pool. His greatest love was his family. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
He is survived by his wife Eunice Austin, of Clear Lake; two children, Deborah Austin, of Clear Lake, Jeffry and his wife, Denice Austin, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Jacob Austin, of Clear Lake, and Amber Austin, of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lorene Austin-Bennett and her husband, Mark Bennett, of Ankeny, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents; son, Joseph Austin, and one sister, Margaret.
Laura M. Grell, 78, of 1125 1st St. S.E., Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to the Laura M. Grell Memorial fund.
Laura was born Oct. 16, 1926 in Green Bay, Wis. the daughter of George and Laura (Martin) Munn. She moved to Mason City in 1930.
Laura married
Roger Grell Nov. 10, 1945 in Mason City. They moved to Clear Lake in 1950. She worked at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, and later at E.F. Johnson's, Unisys and then for Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Home Health Care. She was a very caring person and really enjoyed working for home health care. She also enjoyed flowers, crafts and listening to country music. She was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church.
Laura is survived by four children, Judy Arnold and her husband, Sam, Clear Lake, Ray Grell and his wife, Bev, Clear Lake, Terry Grell and his wife, Lori, Mason City, and Maurene Schimmel and her husband, Bruce, Ankeny, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Knitter, Milwaukee, Wis. and Florence Glosen, Kansas City, Kansas and four brothers, Charles Munn, San Diego, Calif., Robert Munn, Albuquerque, N.M., George Munn Jr., Cal Juna, Calif. and John Munn, San Diego.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Elmer; husband, Roger; granddaughter, Laura Marie; half brother, and one brother, Daniel Munn.

Patricia "Pat" A. McGowan, 80, 1105 5th Ave S., Clear Lake, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 8th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Visitation will be Friday, from 5 - 7 p.m. with a Scripture Wake service at 6 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Pat was born March 1, 1924, in Mitchell, S.D., the daughter of E.W. and Clara (Balrud) Justin. She graduated from Mason City High School and Mason City Junior College. Pat married
Raymond McGowan June 21, 1944 and they lived in Clear Lake. She worked for the Welcome Wagon in Clear Lake and was a paraprofessional for Mason City High School.
Pat enjoyed playing cribbage and fishing with her husband and playing bridge with the girls. She loved to play golf at All Vets and always told people that she was going to her office. Pat thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed many weekends in the fall sharing the weekend with the duckhunters, Mike and Patrick. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
Pat is survived by two children, Michael McGowan and his wife, Pamela, Edina, Minn. and Kathy Olson and her husband, Lance, Spirit Lake, Iowa; five grandchildren, Daniel McGowan, Anchorage, AK, Peter McGowan and his wife, Misty, Minneapolis, Minn., Patrick McGowan, Pequot Lakes, Minn., Lisa Vander Woude and her husband, Rick, Spirit Lake, Iowa and Brent Olson, Spirit Lake; three great-grandchildren, Corri, Ryker and Jossi Vander Woude; one sister, Elizabeth Siesseger, Muscatine, Iowa, and one brother, Robert Justin, Davenport, Iowa.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond, on Oct. 15, 1991.
Leroy F. "Slim" Smith, 83, of Mason City, Iowa died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at Willow Pointe Assisted Living. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Stiles, First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be given to the Leroy F. Smith Memorial Fund. Leroy was born May 5, 1921 in rural Bradford, Iowa the son of Franklin C. and Gertie B. (Smith) Smith. He graduated from West Fork #5. Leroy moved to Mason City in 1945. He married
Betty L. Pusch Dec. 12, 1954. Leroy worked as an automobile mechanic for Zenor Motors and Blinder Olds Honda for 40 years. He retired in 1985. Leroy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Highland Golf Course and he enjoyed bowling for over 40 years.
Leroy is survived by a special friend, Bernice I. Carmody, of Mason City; step-children, Mary Borrill and husband, Ken, of Clear Lake, Sharon Carmody of Mason City, Denny Carmody and wife, Mary, of Clear Lake, Pastor Mike Carmody and wife, Janis, of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law, Ednabelle Smith of Sheffield, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; brothers, Howard, Walter and Boyd; sisters, Margaret, Phyllis and Genevieve.
Mary Louise (Gragert) Christensen, 77, of Ventura, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral Services were held Friday, Jan. 7, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was at Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Mary Louise Christensen memorial fund.
Mary was born on Sept. 8, 1927 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa to Frank ElRoy and Nettie May (Bishop) Gragert. Mary grew up around Dows, Iowa and lived much of her life on Iowa farms. She worked for many years selling school supplies throughout Iowa. She then worked at Carlton Stewart Music Company in Mason City selling pianos, organs and music supplies. She worked at Mason City KFC and was known as the buffet hostess. She was honored as employee of the year in 1996 by the Iowa Restaurant Association. She loved gardening and canning, and sharing the fruits of her labor for her own enjoyment and that of her family. Mary was known for putting smiles on her customer's faces and everyone loved Mary for her ever-present positive outlook, in spite of life's adversities. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church near Ankeny. Mary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Mary is survived by her husband of 39 years, Max Christensen, of Ventura; her two children, Ron Gunderson and his wife, Beth, of Eagle River, Alaska, and Shirley Baker and her husband, Alan, of Ventura. She was grandmother to six grandchildren, Rhonda Gildersleeve and her husband, Drew, Allan Gunderson and his fiancée, Shannon, Wendy Jackson, Murry Gunderson, Angie Oehlert and Ashley Baker. She also had six great-grandchildren, Corey Martin, Shay Martin, Alexis Gildersleeve, Cameron Gunderson, Hunter Jackson and Carson Jackson. Mary has one living sister, Ruth Osborn and her husband, Paul, of Baxter, Minn. and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family, friends and the many whose lives she deeply touched.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Vera, Amy and Charlotte and one brother, Roy.
