Elnora Taber, 89, of Eldora, died Jan. 10, 2006, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Rev. Harley Sampson of the First Assembly of God in Lee Summit, Mo. officiating. Burial will follow in the Hubbard Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Creps-Abels Funeral Home.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Shirley) Taber of Montgomery, Ala., and Lyle (Joyce) Taber of Sac City; daughter, Lynn Rae Taber of Conrad; sister, Esther Sampson of Hubbard; brother, Clarence Brandt of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Audra Griffith of Pittsburg, Kan.; brother-in-law, Chester Taber of Steamboat Rock; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Steven Boyd, 46
Steven Boyd, 46, of 1107 S. Seventh Ave., died April 20, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be in Columbus, Ohio, next week at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Benjamin Kirk, 75
STORY CITY - Benjamin Kirk, 75, longtime Madison County farmer and Winterset resident, most recently of Story City, died Oct. 22, 2007, at Israel Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. He will be laid to rest at 3 p.m. at Winterset Cemetery. Born on March 30, 1932, at home in Clarke County, Iowa, he was the son of John and Wilma (McChesney) Kirk. He received his education in the area of his birth. Mr. Kirk served our country honorably in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. On Aug. 11, 1951, in Winterset, he was united in marriage to Virginia Ragan. They farmed in Union County until he left for service and moved to the family farm in Madison County on March 1, 1955, where they spent the next 50 years. The couple moved to Osceola for a shortime and most recently Story City to be near his son and family.
Mr. Kirk was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Lorimor, the National Farmers Organization and the American Legion. Mr. Kirk, a born farmer, loved his family - especially treasuring the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even until his final hours, he kept note on the alfalfa and hay fields near his home in Story City and enjoyed farm reports, reading farm magazines and always a good meal.
Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 56 years, Virginia; three sons, Craig (Cindy) Kirk of Story City, Mike (Karen) Kirk of Marshalltown and Doug (Linda) Kirk of Murray; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Raymond Kirk of Chariton, Helen Powers of Winterset, Patricia (David) Grandfield of Lorimor, Larry (Mildred) Kirk of Lorimor, Ronnie (Ann) Kirk of Lorimor and Barbara (Bill) Waller of Oskaloosa; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
In death he has rejoined his parents and a brother Max.

Funeral services for Benjamin Kirk, 75, were held Monday morning at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery in Winterset.
Pallbearers were Craig Kirk, Mike Kirk, Doug Kirk, Ben Kirk, Justin Kirk, Caleb Kirk and Dalton Marsh.
Groups representing Iowa River Hospice, New Hope Christian Church, Riverside Cemetery and the Marshall County Attorney’s Office were in attendance.
Bernice E. McKibben, 84
Bernice E. McKibben, 84, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life Oct. 22, 2007, at Westbrook Acres Care Center in Gladbrook while under the care of their staff, her family and Cedar Valley Hospice of Grundy County.
Graveside funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown. Public visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Thursday at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Born on Sept. 20, 1923, in Gilman, Iowa, Bernice was the daughter of William and Ella Jane (Smith) Carlson. She grew up and attended public school in Gilman. She later graduated from William Penn College with a B.A. in elementary education. She was united in marriage to H. Russell McKibben on Oct. 27, 1939, in Bethany, Mo. The couple made their home in Marshalltown where Bernice worked as a receptionist for the Director of Nursing at Marshalltown Evangelical Hospital. After living in Arkansas for 10 years, they moved back to Marshalltown in 1975.
She was a member of First Friends Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved The Sweet Adelines and she was a charter member of their local chapter. She was past president and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Bernice loved music, flower gardening and spending time outdoors
She will be missed by her daughter, Sharon (Charles) Eckles of Marshalltown; five granddaughters, Jane, Julia, Jocelyn, Kelly and Polly; 13 great-grandchildren, James Thomas Watson, Miah Jane Watson, Mikayla Lucille Watson, Richelle Leigh Boehmer, Joy Marie Boehmer, Tara Kristin Ohrt, Trace Edward Ohrt, Justin Charles Bruce, John Gabriel Bruce, Alex Eaton, Gracie Lindeman, Madeline Rogers and Collin Rogers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In eternal life, Bernice has been reunited with her parents; her husband (Jan. 15, 2003); her son, William Russell McKibben (who was shot down during Vietnam); and two sisters, Wilma Mae Tucker and Barbara Jane Vannatta.

ELDORA - Bernice A. Allbee, 92, of Eldora, died Oct. 22, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
She is survived by her sister Bessie Nehring of Owasa; six grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy L. LePoire, 80
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Dorothy Louise LePoire, 80, of Hot Springs, Ark., died Oct. 20, 2007, at her home.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, with Pastor Hirsch Chizever officiating. She was born May 18, 1927, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to the late William E. and Grace (Anderson) Ford.
She was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the altar guild, church council and charter member of the Care and Share Group. She was also very active showing Appaloosa horses in the Midwest.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Bernie R. LePoire of Hot Springs, Ark.; three daughters, Marjorie Ringo of Florence, Ore., Barbara Williams of McKinney, Texas, and Cindy McVay of Plano, Texas; one sister, Betty Miltenberger of Marshalltown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Anna C. Gross, 101
STATE CENTER - Anna Caroline Fricke Gross, 101, of State Center, entered into eternal life on Oct. 22, 2007, at State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the West Marshall Mitchell Family Funeral Home in State Center and one hour before the funeral at the church. Anna was born to William H. Fricke and Annie (Renton) Fricke on Nov. 12, 1905, on a farm near State Center, Iowa. She graduated from State Center High School in 1923 and married George Gross in Eldora, Iowa, on Feb. 28, 1925.
Anna with her husband George operated the Gross Dairy and Sandwich Shop in State Center for 20 years. They also sold sweet corn and berries from their property and raised chickens in the spring each year.
Anna was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and Young Women’s Club. Anna was especially thrilled with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoiled them with her unconditional love and cinnamon rolls.
She is survived by two daughters, Myrna (Don) Shaffar of State Center and Marlys (Lyle) Larson of Edina, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; two brothers, Renton Fricke and Christian Fricke; and one sister Alice Fricke Frandsen.

RHODES - Joseph “Bud” Dugan Jr., 66, of Rhodes, died Oct. 20, 2007, in Benson, Minn.

Earl L. Nielsen, 93
Earl L. Nielsen, 93, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life Oct. 21, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center while under the care of their staff, his family and Iowa River Hospice.
A public memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ in Marshalltown. Private family burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Cremation rites have preceded the service and no public visitation is planned prior to the ceremony. There will be a reception and celebration of his life in the fellowship hall at First United Church of Christ following the burial. Born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Garwin, Iowa, Earl was the son of Carl and Margaret (Lorenzen) Nielsen. He grew up in the area of his birth and graduated from Garwin High School. On Dec. 20, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lola Burhenn of Dysart. The couple farmed near Garwin until 1944 when they moved to Marshalltown. He attended Marshalltown Business College and was employed at Abbott & Son Hardware. Earl had purchased an interest in the store when it became known as Best Hardware. He continued to co-own and operate the store until he sold his interest and retired in 1975. He always loved people and continued working in the store until the mid 1980s.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he served on the church board in many capacities, including treasurer. Earl was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and great-grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed high school basketball; gardening, the outdoors and his yard tractor; reading and car trips to California to see his daughter and her family.
He will be missed by his wife of more than 70 years, Lola, of Marshalltown; two daughters, Virginia K. (Dale) Anderson of Urbandale and Margaret L. (Joseph A.) DeLeonardi of Santa Clarita, Calif.; three grandchildren, Scott A. Anderson of Urbandale, Jennifer K. Earley of Egan, Minn. and Katherine A. Connolly of San Diego, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Joe; and several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life, he has been reunited with his parents; and two brothers, Harold L. and Leonard L. Nielsen.
