Fern M. Linahon, age 79, a long time resident of Klemme, Iowa, most recently a resident of the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held, 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme. The Rev. Donna Buckman will be officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Fern Marjorie Linahon, the daughter of Edward and Christine (Ausborn) Gifford, was born Oct. 28, 1925, on a farm south of Klemme. She attended various country schools and Ventura High School.
Fern married
William Dale Linahon in November, 1946 and to this union was born two children, Jerry D. Linahon and Marlene F. (Linahon) Smith.
Fern enjoyed gardening, horses, and dogs. She was also well known for her outstanding wedding cakes and decorating skills. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and creating her own designs. She was also well known for her wonderful cooking skills.
Fern had been an active member and served in various roles, including as an officer in the Veterans Ladies' Auxilary and a Cub Scout den mother.
She had resided at the Concord Care Center since August, 2002.
Fern is survived by her son, Jerry and wife, Melba, Laurel, Mont.; her daughter, Marlene and husband, James (Jack) Smith, Klemme; her grandchildren, Kristal Hodges, Redmond, Ore., Nicole Eastlick, Wichita, Kan., Matthew Linahon, Forest City, Iowa, Michelle Rodriguez, Redmond, Ore. Christina Smith, Klemme, Teri Smith, Klemme, and two great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, various aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Andrews Funeral Home, Klemme.
Jennie Lewerke, 91, of 1037 19th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa died Saturday June 4, 2005 at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 9, at Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Christian Church, 340 20th St. S.W., Mason City, with Pastor Jack Vanden Heuvel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, and again Thursday one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials may be given to Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Jennie was born Aug. 3, 1913 in Barnevold, Holland the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick VanRavenhorst. At the age of six she came with her parents and siblings to America. They settled in Rock Valley, Iowa and later Hollandale, Minn. area where she attended school.

Lewie Lewerke on Feb. 26, 1934 in Hollandale. They moved to Crystal Lake, Iowa area were they were vegetable farmers. In their vegetable growing years, truckers from the Midwest and local customers made sure they arrived around coffee, tea or dinner time, as they would always be invited in to dine and socialize with Mom and Dad. Due to their strong Christian beliefs there was a large entry sign stating "No Sale On Sunday" that greeted everyone. They retired in 1967 and moved to Mason City, Iowa. She worked as a banquet waitress for over 25 years at the Sheraton and Hanford Inn Mason City.
She enjoyed canning, gardening, morning coffee and afternoon tea with her family and friends, but the greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a member of Woden Christian Reformed Church until she moved to Mason City and became a member of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, Mason City.
She will be sadly missed by her four children, Ella Frenz, Dick Lewerke and his wife, Bonnie, Al Lewerke and his wife, Barb, and Zelda Elwood and her husband, Larry, all of Mason City; 12 grandchildren: Cindy (Dan) Mueller, Bob Frenz, Penny (James) Frenz Thornton, Kim Richardson, Brian (Jan) Lewerke, Sherry Lewerke, Brad Lewerke, Christine Lewerke, Toma Elwood, Greg Bennett, Troy (Amy) Elwood, and Trevor (Sarah) Elwood; six great-grandchildren: Brook Frenz, Brianna Lewerke, Branden Lewerke, Taylor Richardson, William Elwood, and Madelyn Elwood; three sisters-in-law: Hilda Loecker, Clarks Grove, Minn., Esther Van Ravenhorst, Albert Lea, Minn. and Lois Van Ravenhorst, Lake Mills, Iowa.
Jennie was greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband and his 14 brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Bob Frenz and her 12 brothers and sisters.
Dixie Renee (Anderson) Hass passed away at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on May 26, 2005, just 10 days after her 62nd birthday, after a long illness. She will be interred in San Diego, Calif. where she and her family have lived for the past 27 years.
She is survived by her husband, Charles R. (Bob) Hass; her daughter, Bobbi Renee Burleson; and two grandchildren, Seth and Jessi Burleson.
Sandra Rose West, 70, of 1917 South Shore Drive, died Tuesday June 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa.
A memorial service was held Friday, June 10, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. A private inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Sandra Rose West Memorial Fund, which will be used towards the Clear Lake Pride Lions Club and the Clear Lake V.F.W. Building Fund.
Sandra R. West was born Dec. 24, 1934 in Waukee, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Tollari) Rilei.
Sandra graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1952. She attended Drake University, majoring in business. She was employed by Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor and Fairgrave Law Firm. She was united in marriage to Richard D. West on Nov. 2, 1959. To this union two children were born. They moved to Clear Lake where they owned and operated the Half Moon Inn until 1968. She was employed by Price Surveying for 30 years, until her retirement. Sandra then owned and operated Camp at the Woods in Rock Falls, Iowa
Sandra enjoyed spending time with friends and family, entertaining, and life on the lake. She was a charter member of the Clear Lake Pride Lions Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Sandra is survived by her mother, Mary Rilei, of West Des Moines; daughter, Susan West (Steve Widener), of Clive, Iowa; grandchildren, Stephanie Widener and Steven Widener, of Clive; sister, Joan (Bill) Crowell, of San Diego, Calif.; niece, Lisa (Randy) Turner, of Sacramento, Calif.; nephew, Jeff Crowell, of San Diego, Calif.; great-nephew, Ross Turner and great-niece, Caitlin Turner, both of Sacramento.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Rilei and son, Kevin West.
Gwendola "Gwen" M. Hopkey, 88, of 611 N. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at her home in Clear Lake. Due to her wishes, she will be cremated and private inurnment will be held in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Gwen M. Hopkey Memorial Fund.
Gwen was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Wayne, Neb. the daughter of William James and Mabel (Loncer) Olson. She attended school in Rowan, Iowa.

Gaehart Hopkey in 1935 in Webster City, Iowa. They farmed in the Alexander, Iowa area. They bought a summer home in Clear Lake in 1968 and retired from farming in the late 1970's and moved to Clear Lake.
She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm and was known for her wonderful cooking.
Gwen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Gwen is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Eckman and her husband, Jerry, Wichita, Kan.; son-in-law, Gene Collins, Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren, Harlan Baker, Thornton, Iowa and Laynette Lumley and her husband, Wayne, Collins, Kan.; sister-in-law, Carole Olson, Clear Lake, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Collins; and four brothers, Dyke, Dale, Victor and Bill Olson.

Barbara E. Formanek, 65, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa, after a five year struggle with multiple myeloma.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa with Fr. Michael Schueller officiating. Lector was Anton Trca. Music was provided by organist Mary Kopacek who accompanied the church choir. Ushers were George Tusha and Don Trca. Pall bearers were Seth Foy, Eric Elliott, Craig Arndt, Michael Arndt, Darrell Brown and Ben Blasberg. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan.

Barbara Ellen Formanek, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Greiman) Wilson, was born Jan. 31, 1940 at Mason City. She attended school at Ventura, Iowa and graduated from Swaledale High School, Swaledale, Iowa in 1958. On Sept. 11, 1958 she was married
to Allan Dwayne Formanek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed south of Hayfield, Iowa for 10 years and then owned and operated Al's Grocery in Duncan for five years. In 1974, they purchased the A & W in Britt, Iowa which they operated for 17 years. They also owned and operated an A & W in Clarion, Iowa. They have lived in Clear Lake since 1989. Her first job experience was with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Garner, Iowa. After retirement she enjoyed managing Kasey Kathleen's Boutique and then working at the Red Geranium, both located in Clear Lake. She cherished spending time with her family, decorating her home and wintering in Arizona.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Catholic Workman Branch No. 51 and T.T.T.
Barb is survived by her husband, Allan, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Lori Foy and husband, Shawn, of Elko, Minn. and Kathi Morris and husband, Kenneth, of Phoenix, Az.; three grandchildren, Amanda Barbara Elliott and husband, Eric, Seth Foy and Kenneth Joseph Morris III (Trey); three sisters, Nancy Ward and husband, Dennis, of Rockwell, Iowa, Linda Lapierre and husband, Mike, of Universal City, Texas, and Beth Milbrandt and husband, Dennis, of Rockwell; a brother-in-law, Robert Arndt of Rockwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Janet Arndt.
Barbara will always be remembered for her zest for life and bringing a smile to many a face with her sharp wit.

Forrest "Frosty" Wilbur Coe, 77, of Ventura, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, at the United Methodist Church in Ventura, Iowa with the Rev. Audrey Westendorf Young officiating. Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery with military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Forrest "Frosty" Coe was born on June 16, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe. He attended and received his education in the Ventura School system. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt during World War II. He was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Lee Stepleton on May 1, 1953, in Mason City. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2005. Forrest worked as a finish carpenter and foreman for 25 years for Beck and Fisher Construction Company in Clear Lake building many homes around the lake. He later worked as a finish carpenter and foreman for 10 years for Nonnweiler and Reichardt Construction Company in Garner, Iowa until his retirement.
Forrest loved and enjoyed building wood working projects for his family and helping other people. He loved the outdoors, hunting, reading, riding around the lake and was a sports enthusiast, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a Methodist by faith. He was a charter member and past president of the Ventura Gun Club and won the Class C Championship. He also loved bowling and was the 1969 all events bowler and bowler of the year. While in the Navy Forrest played AAA baseball.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Matthew M. Coe of Ventura, Teresa Patton and her husband, Charles, of Montevideo, Joni Chase and special friend, Clint Kaune, of Oelwein, Iowa, Jeff Coe and his wife, Debora, of Rochester, Minn., and Amy Reiter and her husband, Brad, of Clarion, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Nick, Taylor and Sydney Patton, Sandy Coe, Sarah (Coe) Myers, Michael and Matthew Chase, Julie (Chase) Love, Joshua and Ashley Coe, Amanda (Coe) Johnson, and Tyler, Michellynn and Payton Reiter; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo Overgaard of Ventura; a brother, Larry Coe and his wife, Jane, of Ventura; two sisters-in-law, Carol Mahrenholz and her husband, Jerry, of Tifton, Ga., and Irene Coe of North Branch, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Charles Stepleton, of Clear Lake as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife, Forrest was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Forrest W. Coe Jr.; three brothers, Ted, Kenneth, and Cecil Coe, and a sister, Joy Currier.

Elaine Arlene Zuehlke, 80, of Ames, Iowa, died Sunday, June 19, at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 24, with the Rev. Julie Zuehlke, at Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Elaine was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Mason City to Henry and Hilda Wearda. She married
Erwin Zuehlke on Feb. 7, 1943 in Mason City. She was an Avon sales representative for 12 years and was also co-owner of Lake Realty in Clear Lake. Her hobbies included being with family and friends, fishing in Canada and playing bridge. She moved to Ames in November, 2001.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam (John) Maurer, Ames, and Jan (Paul) Lande, Huxley, Iowa; a son, Terry (Julie) Zuehlke, Golden Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin, in December 2001; one son; one daughter, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter.

Gilbert E. Mills, 63, of Plymouth, Iowa died Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held Thursday, June 23, at the United Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Cremation took place with inurnment in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.
Gilbert E. Mills was born on March 17, 1942, in Novinger, Mo., the son of Cleo and Daisy (VanHoose) Mills. He attended and received his education in the Novinger school system. Gilbert began working for the Pre-Stress Concrete Company in Des Moines, Iowa in 1962, and worked for them until 1973 when he began working as a counter salesman for Standard Bearing Company in Des Moines. He was transferred to Mason City, Iowa in 1979 and worked for Standard Bearing until 1984. Gilbert also worked for Precision Industry in Mason City as a counter salesman and operations manager until his retirement in 2003.
He was united in marriage to Laurie Whitehurst on June 5, 1982, in Ventura.
Gilbert enjoyed fishing, photography, woodworking, and grilling, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a Baptist by faith, and was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 420 in Plymouth.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurie Mills of Plymouth; his children, Jerry Mills of Hannibal, Mo.; Gayla Gauke, and Janet Pederson of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Josh, Jake and Makayla Mills, all of Plymouth; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Jack Mills and his wife, Hazel, of Atlanta, Mo; Larry Mills and his wife, Carol, of Drums, Penn.; Denny Mills and his wife, Dee, of Huntington, Ind., Frank Mills and his wife, Nancy, of Atlanta, Mo.; and Randy Mills and his wife, Garla, of Novinger, Mo.; one sister, Norma VanZee and her husband, Michael, of Des Moines; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Steven Mills.
James L. "Jim" Palmer, 69, of 1402 North 24th Street, Clear Lake, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
His funeral service was held Tuesday, June 28, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Jan Burnett officiating. A private family inurnment service will take place on Wednesday, June 29, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Jim Palmer Memorial Fund.
Jim was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Menomonee, Wis., the son of Adam and Elma (Meninger) Palmer. He graduated from high school in Delavan, Minn. and continued his education at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn. He later earned his Masters Degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo. Jim married
the love of his life, Shirley Kirkeide, on June 23, 1957 in Easton, Minn. The couple moved to northern Iowa where Jim worked as a special education teacher, first in Britt, Iowa and then for the Hancock County school system. He then began an over 30 year career as a special education consultant for the Northern Trails Area Education Agency. He worked tirelessly at schools all around the North Iowa area to make sure that the lives of children with special needs were enriched. Jim also taught at the Mason City campus of Buena Vista University for eight years, training future special education instructors.
When he wasn't devoting his time to special needs children, Jim enjoyed woodworking and traveling. His favorite destination was Plymouth, Mass. He loved to joke around, especially with his large extended family and enjoyed many activities with his grandchildren. Jim was a faithful member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and of ARC.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Shirley, of Clear Lake; his son, Mark Palmer and his wife, Amy, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Melody Scheetz and her husband, John; Jennifer Palmer, all of El Paso, Texas, and eight grandchildren: Adam, Andrew, Stephanie, Samantha and Zachary Palmer, Keely and Heather Scheetz, and Alexander Palmer.
He is survived by one brother, Gene Palmer, of Mason City; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Fuss and her husband, Mike, of Milwaukee, Wis. and many other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Palmer, in 1989.
