Velora Jacqueline Tefft, 77, died Sunday Aug. 28, 2005, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Her funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Steve Quintus officiating. Private family inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa and Kingdom Hall, Garner, Iowa.
Velora Jacqueline Swain was born May 28, 1928, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Alvin and Velora Imogene (Morgan) Swain.
Velora graduated from Clear Lake High School and Hamilton's Business College, Mason City. She was united in marriage to Ronald William Tefft on Oct. 21, 1950. To this union five children were born. Velora worked for Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, retiring after 19 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Garner. She enjoyed practicing her faith, cross word puzzles, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Velora is survived by her children, Ronald (Cheri) Tefft, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Debra Drake, of Washington, Utah; Michael Tefft, of Clear Lake; Carleton (Diane) Tefft, of Mason City, Iowa; Laura (Randy) Kunkel, of Wesley, Iowa; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Pearl) Swain, of Keister, Minn.; sisters, Georgia (Clarence) Norem, of Clear Lake, and Karen (Larry) Moats, of Middleton, Idaho; along with aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Velora was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Maurice and Eugene Swain.
Richard "Richie" Ray McColley Jr., 38, 516 7th Ave N., Clear Lake, IA, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. A visitation with his family will be held Wednesday, Aug. 30, 4 - 7:30 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
Richie was born April 8, 1967 at Savanna, Ill., the son of Richard Ray and Ruth Elaine (Chadwick) McColley Sr. He graduated from Savanna High School and then attended trade school in carpentry. He worked at ElKay Manufacturing as material handler in Lanark, Ill. Later he worked at Dura Manufacturing at Stockton, Ill. Richie moved to Clinton, Iowa and on to Clear Lake. Richie married
Crystal Griffith on Dec. 30, 2004 in Mason City. He worked at A.C.T. in Northwood, Iowa as a forklift operator. He owned Country Style Crafts and he sold woodworking products through the internet. Richie enjoyed woodworking and developing websites, but most of all he enjoyed being with his friends and family.
Richie is survived by his wife, Crystal McColley, Clear Lake; his parents, Richard Ray and Ruth Elaine McColley Sr., Sabula, Iowa; his son, Brandon McColley and his daughter, Haley McColley, both of Lanark, Ill; two step-children Michael Griffith and Jordan VanHorn, both of Clear Lake; two brothers, Shawn McColley, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Russell (Shannon) McColley, Hanover, Ill.; four sisters, Christine Drury and Bobbie Jo Hammond, both of Camanche, Iowa, Tracy Marie (Wesley) Hook, Clinton, Iowa and Sally (Jesse) Tague, Clinton; and maternal grandmother, Mary Chadwick, Savanna, Ill.
Richie was preceded in death by his brother, Seth; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Mona McColley and maternal grandfather, Earl Chadwick.
Jessie Atwell Roth passed away Sept. 1, 2005 at the age of 95. She had been a resident of the IOOF Home in Mason City, Iowa since August, 2004. A graveside ceremony was held in Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, Iowa, on Saturday, Sept. 3, where Jessie was buried next to her first husband, Herman Atwell. A visitation will precede the service.
Jessie Margaret Gilchrist Atwell Roth was born Feb. 8, 1910 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the second of five daughters born to Frank and Anna Gilchrist.
She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1927 and attended business college in Chariton, Iowa. She married
Herman E. Atwell on July 6, 1929 in Chariton. From this union were born Joann, Alan and Richard Atwell. Herman preceeded her in death in 1975.
On Aug. 31, 1980, Jessie and Robert J. Roth were united in marriage in Altoona, Iowa. They resided in Iowa Falls, Iowa until 2001, when they moved to Clear Lake. Jessie was proceeded in death by Robert in March 2005. Jessie was a 65-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.
Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Alan and Margherita Atwell, Clear Lake, and Richard and Joyce Atwell, Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons; three granddaughters; three great-great grandsons; three great-great granddaughters and one sister, Phyllis Kane, Cylinder, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Joann Simcoke; one grandson, Alan Atwell, Jr., and three sisters.
Dorothy Mae Fessler, 84, of 7668 160th St., Swaledale, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Swaledale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Dorothy Mae Fessler Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born Sept. 29, 1920 in rural Clear Lake, the daughter of Samuel and Irene (Bower) Farrow. She grew up and attended school in rural Clear Lake and then helped at home until her marriage.
She married
Lloyd Fessler on Dec. 24, 1939 in Clear Lake. They moved to the Fessler farm northwest of Swaledale, where they farmed together until Lloyd passed away in 1970. She continued to live on the farm until her death.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, loving her kitties, playing Yahtzee, fishing, watching sports - both football and basketball, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and most of all she loved to spend time and play with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Dorothy was a member of the Swaledale Methodist Church, UMW and Sarah Circle and the Swaledale Senior Citizens.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, David Fessler and his wife, Fran, Des Moines, Iowa and Richard Fessler and his wife, Judy, Swaledale; five grandchildren, Troy Fessler, Garner, Iowa, Jodi McClung and her husband, Scott, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cory Fessler and his wife, Nikki, Swaledale, Chad Fessler and his wife, Tonya, Clear Lake and Brian Fessler and his wife, Amy, Nora Springs, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Collin and Alexis McClung; Noah Sparks and Makenzie Fessler, Sierra Craighton, Alex Fessler, Keagan Fessler and Makia Fessler, Kaylea Fessler; two sisters, Louise Jones, Clear Lake and Helen Peterson and her husband, Wilbur, Garner; three brothers, Robert Farrow and his wife, Beverly, Norwalk, Iowa, Jay Farrow and his wife, Darlene, Adel, Iowa and Donald Farrow, Akron, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ruth Farrow, Perham, Minn., Alma Spilman, Clear Lake, Verneice Pedersen and her husband, John, Swaledale, several nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Fred Banks, Clear Lake.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd, on Nov. 23, 1970; brother, Lynn Farrow; sisters, Leona Rutledge and infant, sister Maxine.

Eugene "Gene" Dean Callaway, 64, of 716 N. 13th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1:30 p.m., at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Hwy 18 W., Clear Lake, with Pastor Steven Cox of the Clear LakeRegular Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors. Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake Regular Baptist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Gene was born Oct. 28, 1940 in Eldora, Iowa the son of Glen and Lola Mae (Heltibridle) Callaway. He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1958. He served in the United States Marine Corps from July 4, 1958 to July 4, 1961 as a Cpl. E-4.

Judith Carole Gast on Feb. 11, 1961 in Steamboat Rock.
He was a law enforcement officer for a total of 40 years, serving first in Evansdale and Benton County, Iowa. Gene served on the Clear Lake Police Department for the last 27 years, retiring in 2002 as a lieutenant.
He loved spending time with his family and his German Shorthair Pointers. He enjoyed hunting, sporting clays, skeet shooting, five stand and fishing.
Gene said "Life was good, but heaven will be better."
He was a member of the Clear Lake Regular Baptist Church.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Judy, Clear Lake; son, Chris Callaway and his wife, Alyssa, and their son, Lewis, Clear Lake; parents, Glen and Lola Callaway, Steamboat Rock; brother, Robert Callaway and his wife, Nancy, Eldora; uncle, Dale Callaway and his wife, Dorothy, Conrad, Iowa and his two aunts, Irene Naumann and Thelma McCall both of Eldora.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Laurie Helene Hankenson died Sept. 2, 2005 after valiantly battling lymphoma for several years. Services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located in Santa Barbara, Calif. She is survived by her husband Bob, son Paul and daughter Sarah (Mrs. Andy Proft.)
Laurie was born in Mason City, Iowa, in 1950, to Paul and Cherie Whitney Kutzner. She lived in Clear Lake for her first 12 years. Her family then moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., where she attended high school, graduating in 1968. While in high school she participated in water ballet. Growing up on the shores of Clear Lake she loved all water sports and she also enjoyed snow skiing.
Laurie met her husband in 1966 at their mothers' 30th class reunion. After a three state courtship, Laurie married
her 'wingman' Bob in 1969. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa briefly until they built a home in Clear Lake, where they lived until 1983. During this time she taught swimming at the YMCA. When her two children were both in school she decided to go back to school herself. She attained a degree at CA State, Stanislaus in 1985. Then she entered the Education program at UCSB and began to teach full-time in 1987. She taught seventh grade social studies for many years at Goleta Valley Junior High and also briefly at La Cumbre Junior High and Santa Barbara Junior High. She was honored with the Santa Barbara Rotary Teacher Recognition Award for "outstanding and special service" in 1995. Laurie was gifted at writing and was a creative, thoughtful and inspirational teacher, admired and respected by all those privileged to know her. She loved to learn new life-enriching concepts and share them in her writing.
She was a member of the Santa Barbara Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she taught Relief Society and inspired her sister members to think better, do better and be better. One so greatly loved will be greatly missed. She lived life with a tenderness truly meant for the angels.
Joyce Ann Bielenberg, 61, died on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapels, 101 North 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa on Wednesday, Sept.14, at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Clear Lake Public Library.
Joyce Ann Anderson was born Aug. 13, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lucille Anderson.
Joyce grew up on the Anderson family farm in Waterbury, Neb., moving to South Sioux City, Neb.with her parents in 1957. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Walter A. Bielenberg on Nov. 8, 1962 in South Sioux City and in September 1963 Joyce and Walt gave birth to their loving daughter, Cathy Lynn. The Bielenberg's lived in South Sioux City until 1978. During this time they spent two years in Amarillo, Texas a special time for Joyce. In 1978 Joyce and her family moved from Nebraska and joined the community of Clear Lake, Iowa where she lived until her passing.
Joyce owned and operated Wally's Iron Works, which started in Britt, Iowa in 1984 and moved to Clear Lake in 1985 where it remained in operation until 1992.
Throughout her adult life Joyce was an active member of the community participating in PTA's, volunteering at the public library, teaching Sunday school and working in various positions where her warmth and care for others was felt and enjoyed by many.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Walter A. Bielenberg, of Clear Lake; her daughter, Cathy and her husband, Edward Mills, of Omaha, Neb.; her grandchildren, Ashley N. and Alexis V. Jaton of Omaha, Neb.; and Edward N. and Ella R. Mills of Austin, Texas; her sister, Carol, and her husband, Robert Welcher of Reno, Nev.; her brothers, Bill and his wife, Donna Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Bob and his wife, Jean Anderson of South Sioux City. Her family loved her dearly and will miss her.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucille, and her brother, John Anderson.
Louise L. Readinger, 98, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 8, 2005 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Rev. Ken Davidson officiating. Organist for the service was Jody Rudolph. Louise's grandchildren, Mike and Renee Readinger sang "The Lord's Prayer" and the congregation joined in singing "For All The Saints" and "Be Still My Soul."
Carrying their grandmother to her place of rest were Douglas Cohrs, Jeff Waltemeyer, Craig Aldag, Mike and Phillip Readinger and Eric Taylor. Her granddaughters were in charge of the flowers.
The graveside service were conducted by her grandson, Mike Readinger.
The family is suggesting that memorials go to the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
Louise Lena Readinger was born Oct. 13, 1906, on the family farm in rural Sac County, Iowa, near Wall Lake. She was one of 13 children born to Johannes and Sophia (Voss) Herrig. Louise was educated in Wall Lake schools.
Louise was baptized on Nov. 18, 1906, and confirmed on March 22, 1922, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa.
On Dec. 9, 1925, she married
Milton Readinger on the family farm near Wall Lake.
Louise spent her younger years in the Wall Lake area of Sac County, Iowa. After her marriage the family lived in western Iowa communities and in Nebraska. The family lived in Atlantic, Iowa from 1947 - 1953 and returned to Atlantic in 1975 where they remained.
While living in Atlantic, Louise worked as a cook at the former Menuette Cafe and at Van's Chat and Chew.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic and was a member of the sewing circle and the Golden Years club. She was known in church to volunteer for anything she was asked to do.
Louise loved to sew but her true enjoyment came from spending time with her entire family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Phyllis Waltemeyer of Denver, Colo., Lorraine Cohrs of Ventura, Iowa and Lorene and her husband, Karl Aldag, of Atlantic, Iowa; two sons, Dale and his wife, Kay Readinger of Urbandale, Iowa as well as Charles and his wife, Judy Readinger of Springfield, Mo. Also surviving are Louise's 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Sophia Herrig; husband, Milton; son, Kenneth in infancy; her daughter, Shirley; daughter-in-law, Jackie Readinger; sons-in-law, Duane Cohrs and Robert Waltemeyer; grandson, Dann Cohrs; and her brothers and sisters, Carl, Herman, Walter, John, Elmer, Henry, Martin, Amanda, Alvena, Malinda and Helen.
Mary A. Patterson, 83, of Clear Lake and formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary's of Nazareth Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Jack Patterson in 1945 and they were married
for 48 years before he passed away in 1993. Mary lived most of her life in Des Moines, but spent her retirement years in Clear Lake. She was a graduate of East High School and retired from Younker's.
Mary is survived by her son, Dan (Cindy) Patterson of Des Moines: daughters, Jackie (Dan) Holland of Des Moines and Sally (Rex) Papach of Mason City; sisters, Virginia (Chuck) Lydic of Des Moines and Kay Halterman of Thornton, Colo.; brother, Bill (Sandy) Kearney of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; her grandchildren, Cory Holland, Laura Miller, Greg Patterson, John Woods and Amy Woods; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack and her sister, Florence Clemenson.

Lorraine Arlene Buseman-Rooks-Woiwod 78, of 904 South 14th Street, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard Scott officiating. Interment was in the Klemme Cemetery, Klemme.
Memorials may be directed to the Lorraine Woiwod Memorial Fund.
Lorraine Arlene Eden was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Titonka, Iowa the daughter of Enno and Lena (Stohr) Eden. Lorraine attended the Clear Lake Schools and worked in the Clear Lake area at different jobs. She was united in marriage to Wayne Buseman on Aug. 24, 1946, in Clear Lake. To this union one daughter, Connie, was born. After they were married
they moved to the Klemme area. In 1961, they moved to Preston, Iowa, where she started working as a Lab Tech for Minetz Creamery. Wayne died June 7, 1967. Lorraine moved to Mason City where she started working for State Brand Creamery and then St. Clair Starks as a seamstress. Lorraine was united in marriage to Raymond Rooks on Nov. 1, 1969, in Nashua, Iowa. They lived on a farm south of Clear Lake. She was a homemaker and helped with the farm work. At the farm Lorraine loved hosting meals and big parties. Together they went camping and traveling. They wintered in Florida for many years. They belonged to the Muddy Pond CB Club. Lorraine and Raymond loved to go dancing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. Raymond died April 29, 1989. Lorraine continued to live on the farm until later in 1989 when she moved to Clear Lake. She was united in marriage to Ronald Woiwod in June of 2000.
Lorraine loved sewing, camping, dancing, socializing, cooking; her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends. She was member of the VFW Auxiliary, Mason City and Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Ronald Woiwod; daughter, Connie (Wayne) Pals, of Thornton; step-daughter, Valera Rooks-Coyier-Hovelson, of Clear Lake; grandchildren Chad (Paula) Pals, of Britt, Lisa (Curt) Studer, of Clear Lake; step granddaughter, Dawn (Jody) Coyier-Brosdahl, of Gretna, Neb., along with six other step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; sisters, Clara Nelson, of Mason City, and Vera Osnes, of Covina, Calif.; special dogs, Buddy and Ming; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wayne Buseman and Raymond Rooks; one infant sister; sisters, Caroline Tool; brothers, Henry and Geard Eden; step-daughter, Ramona Calhoun; step-grandson, Randy Coyier; step son-in-law, James Hovelson; and two brothers-in-law, Vernell Tool and Leonard Nelson.

Stanley Ralph Ludeke, 82, Long Prairie, Minn., formerly of Clear Lake and Klemme, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at the Long Prairie Hospital in Long Prairie.
He was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Klemme, the son of Ralph and Mina (Hartzell) Ludeke. He farmed south of Clear Lake for many years, then moved to Long Prairie in 1966 where he owned a dairy farm. He was a member of the Clear Lake Methodist Church and later the Long Prairie Baptist Church.
Stanley is survived by five children, Mari K Wollenburg, Staples, Minn., David Ludeke, Clear Lake, Richard Ludeke, Yuma, Az., Morgan Ludeke, St. Cloud, Minn. and Shawn Ludeke, New Brighton, Minn.; sisters, June Collins, Mason City, and Marilyn Counter, Redfield, Iowa and five grandchildren, Chris and Beth Wollenburg and Sarah, Lily and Daisy Ludeke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Doris Dominic.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.
