Amie Loretta Brown, 95, of Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard L. Scott officiating. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of North Iowa or Willow Pointe Assisted Living.
Amie Loretta Langerud was born on the Langerud family farm north of Forest City, Iowa on April 26, 1910, the daughter of Albert and Tone (Olson) Langerud. She was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church and graduated from Forest City High School and Waldorf College.
She married
James Hauge on April 2, 1950. James died in February 1983 in Mission, Texas. Marcus L. Hauge was adopted as an infant April 22, 1941. After farming and other work in the Forest City area the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she was employed as a telephone operator until she retired in 1973. She and James returned to Forest City until she moved to Clear Lake in 1983. She married
Bill B. Brown on February 16, 1985, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Bill died Aug. 27, 1999.
Amie enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and a total of 23 winters as a Winter Texan in Mission, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Marcus (Sharon) Hauge of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren; three great-grandsons; sisters, Edith Peterson, Clear Lake, Junice Brown and Marlys Haugen, Leland, Iowa and a brother, Albert Langerud, Paris, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Stena, Jeniva, Esther and Doris; two additional sisters who died in infancy and two husbands.
Marie Hazel Harrison 85, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service were held Monday, Nov. 14, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Marie Hazel Torkelson was born June 23, 1920, in Dawson, Minn. She was united in marriage to Everett Harrison on Nov. 19, 1937, in Mason City. To this union four children were born. Marie and Everett were blessed with 67 years of marriage. Marie was a homemaker for most of her life and was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Marie was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church; her faith was very important to her.
Marie is survived by her husband, Everett Harrison, of Mason City; children Joann (Robert) Bowers, of Washington, Ill., and Janice Rogers, of Mason City; brother, Richard (Leona) Torkelson, of Mason City; grandchildren Lisa (Mike) Beving, of Ankeny, Iowa, Kimberly Roberts, of Creve Coeur, Ill., Darren (Tammy) Bowers, of Creve Coeur, Brian (Melissi) Bowers, of Marquette Heights, Ill., Renée (Jim) Boehnke, of Clear Lake, Christine Dusold, of Waterloo, Iowa, Dawn (Jon) Ericson, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Jerry and Ronald Dean Harrison; brother, Melford "Bud" Torkelson; sisters, Evelyn Monahan and Betty Stenerson, and son-in-law, Bill Rogers.

Larry Ray Luker, 67, 1104 5th Ave S., Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 10, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian and Richard Scott, Lay Assistant officiating. Memorials may be given to the Larry Luker Memorial Fund.
Larry was born Jan. 28, 1938 at Mason City, the son of Fred and Evelyn (Humphrey) Luker. He graduated form Fertile High School in 1956 and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Larry married
Marian Mastre on April 13, 1958 in Fertile Lutheran Church. He sold life insurance for Circle Key Life Co. He started buying and remodeling houses in Clear Lake. He built, owned and operated Shiloh I and II Apts. He also owned and operated Luker 106 Car Wash. In 1993, in partnership with his son, Todd, he built Luker's All American Storage. In 2000 he retired, enjoying spending the winter with his wife in Texas. He loved fishing, hunting (which included cleaning deer in the Nonnweiler meatlocker), gardening and landscaping. He enjoyed spending time with his family. His love and commitment to Clear Lake covered many areas; councilman on the Clear Lake City Council, EDC, Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, volunteered his services to the community, and for many years he was in charge of the fireworks during the 4th of July and Christmas by the Lake. Clear Lake honored his service when he was the named the grand marshall of the 4th of July Parade in 2004. Even in death, Larry was giving back to people as a bone, eye and tissue donor through the Iowa Donor Network.
Larry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the EDC and a member of the Clear Lake Noon Lions Club for over 25 years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marian Luker, Clear Lake; four children, Jill Nonnweiler and her husband, Dan, Mason City, Jody Satern and her husband, Gene, League City, Texas, Joyce Wagner and her husband, Bob, Ventura, Iowa and Todd Luker and his wife, Lisa, Clear Lake; his father and step-mother, Fred and Judy Luker, Clear Lake; his brother, Neal Luker and his wife, Jane, Fulton, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Jeff Nonnweiler and his fiancée, Tiffany Thies, Waverly, Iowa, Kaley Nonnweiler, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jacob Nonnweiler, Mason City, Jonathan Satern and his wife, Argelia, League City, Texas, Lindsey Satern, Denton, Texas, Robert and Ryan Wagner, Ventura, Hadley and Henry Luker and Moonie the Dog that loved Grandpa, Clear Lake.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Luker.

Margaret McIntire, 92, a resident at the Iowa Veterans Home since 1997, died there Oct. 26, 2005.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Burial of her ashes was in theArlington Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. Memorials may be donated to the Memorial Garden Fund at the Iowa Veterans Home. The Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born in Thompson, Iowa on Feb. 3, 1913, the daughter of Newton E. and Josephine (Jacobsen) Isaacs. Reared and educated in Britt, Iowa, she graduated from high school there is 1930. Following this, she attended the Britt Junior College and Grinnell College, and later a beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa. On Oct. 10, 1936, she married
Ernest E. McIntire in Britt. This was their 69th year of togetherness.
In 1947 they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa and she sold real estate while Ernest was co-owner of Johnson-McIntire Lincoln-Mercury Dealership. In 1955 they moved to Hoopston, Ill., where they owned and operated a hotel. In 1961 they moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa where they owned and operated the Woods Hotel and she had a beauty shop in the hotel. They moved to Clear Lake in 1972 where they lived until 1997, when they moved to the Iowa Veterans Home.
Margaret was a member of the First congregational Church in Marshalltown and a former member of the Assistance League.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a niece, Joann Jacobson, of Des Moines; a nephew, Phil Lewis of Dallas, Texas; and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Dorothy J. Pedersen, 90, 213 6th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, 2:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. According to her wishes her body has been cremated. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy was born April 19, 1915 in Rockville, Neb., the daughter of Soren E. and Marie C. (Hehnke) Sorensen. She graduated from Rockville High School in 1932 and attended Kearney State Teachers College, where she obtained her teachers certificate. She married
Howard Pedersen June 6, 1933 in Rockville,Neb. After her kids were grown up she worked for Welcome Wagon in Mason City and later worked at Bergner's Dept Store in Peoria, Ill. She moved to Clear Lake in July 1990 following her husband's death on Nov. 8, 1989. She loved needlework, crossword puzzles, gardening, reading and church activities. Dorothy is a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.
Dorothy is survived by three children; Jeanette Trohkimoinen and her husband, John, Sheridan, Wyo., Lois Ann Kelly, Pensacola, Fla. and Gordon Pedersen and his wife, Pam, Grand Island, Neb.; five grandchildren, John G. Trohkimoinen and his wife, Karen, Casper, Wyo., Judy Trohkimoinen and her husband, Vern Trowbridge, Baker City, Or., Erin Day and her husband, Tim, Pensacola, Jennifer Pedersen, Minneapolis, Minn. and Matthew Pedersen, Columbia, South America; five great-grandchildren, Kristen and Lauren Trohkimoinen, Logan and Lacie Day and Mica Pedersen.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard on Nov 8, 1989; son-in-law, Leland Kelly and sister, Lillian Weaver.
Leona Matilda Day, 88, of Rudd, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 11 a.m., at the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave N., Clear Lake, with Pastor Jim Allard officiating. Leona Day, daughter of Henry and Minnie (Ahrens) Brandau was born on June 3, 1917 in her country home at Rudd. She attended grade school at Rudd County Schools and graduated from Rudd High School in 1936. Leona worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for 10 years.
On Feb. 10, 1956 she was married
to Robert W. Day. Leona was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Rudd. She believed in Jesus as her personal savior all her life. Leona loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Leona is survived by two sons, Wayne Day of Mason City, Wendell Day and his wife, Lana, of Swaledale, Iowa; four grandchildren, Misty Day of Clarksville, Iowa, David Day, Daniel Day and Deanna Day of Swaledale; a sister, Ruth Ploeger of Charles City, Iowa; a brother, Robert Brandau of Fort Madison, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Brandau of Osage, Iowa.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Henry and Minnie Brandau; two brothers, Edgar and Erwin; and her sisters, Lillian and Katherine.
Louise M. Allen, 94, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit Mason City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave South, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of North Iowa.
Louise was born May 2, 1911, in Swaledale, Iowa, the daughter of Theresa Leinhaas. Louise graduated from Swaledale High School in 1929, and was a graduate of Hamilton Business College. She worked for Carl Snyder Insurance Company in Mason City for 14 years. Louise married
Alfred John Allen on April 1, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage they purchased the Hilltop Motel in Clear Lake which she operated until her death. In 1951 they started the Allen Travel Agency and, over a time, owned and operated 22 travel agencies throughout Iowa and Kansas. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world. Following the death of her husband she continued to run the motel and travel agency with her two sons. She was very involved with life and business right to the end. She enjoyed her cats, flowers, gardening and taking care of her motel. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
Louise is survived by her three children, Teri Allen, Glendale, Calif.; John Ritz Allen, Clear Lake and Jay Allen and his wife, Trish, Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Margaret Van Vark, Pella, Iowa; six grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Miller, Leslie Burgess, Lincoln Allen and fiancée, Kelly O'Hara, Libbey (Troy) Wood, Diana Allen and Jessica Allen and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband and two brothers.

Katherine Ellen Freie, 85, of 516 8th Ave N, Clear Lake, died Nov. 22, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of North Iowa.
Katherine was born June 3, 1920 at Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Nancy Miller. Katherine attended school in Boone. She was baptized at Emmanuel Methodist Church in 1947 at Boone. Katherine married
Raymond Freie Aug. 16, 1939 at Boone. They farmed at Boxholm, Iowa, until moving to Clear Lake in 1957 where they purchased and operated North Shore Court until 1975. She went on to work for E.F. Johnson, Sperry Univac then Unisys. After her retirement she enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting and especially cooking. Katherine was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.
Katherine is survived by her two children, Dixie (Arvid) Matson and Raymond Freie Jr; sisters-in-law, Norma Schlicht, Pat Miller and Bernice Miller; five grandchildren, David Freie, Tammy Wageman, Lori (Mike) Mallicoat, Becky (Joel) Weidner, Kim (James) Stapleton and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers Bill, Howard and Arthur Miller Junior and two sisters, Hazel Oviatt and Lottie Wernli.

Louis Kraakevik, 99, passed away peacefully on Nov. 23, 2005 at Presbyterian Homes in Roseville. Louis grew up in Norway and Chicago. He moved with his young family to Iowa in 1949 where he was a salesman at Olson Furniture of Forest City, Iowa then owner of Fertile Hardware and later, of Clear Lake Appliance Store until he retired to Minnesota. Louis was known for his loyalty and devotion to God and family, pride in his Norwegian heritage, his incredible work ethic and his zest for life.
His devoted wife, Mildred, daughter, Elaine Erickson and son, Bob precede him in death. His son, Keith, 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren survive him. His life will be celebrated in a memorial service on Saturday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m., at Arlington Hills Presbyterian Church, 1275 E. Magnolia Ave., St. Paul, Minn. Memorials preferred to Bethel College, Arlington Hills Church or Presbyterian Homes.
Elbert D. "Mike" Djuren, 81, of 318 S. Rhode Island, Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral were held Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Memorials may be given to the Mike Djuren Memorial Fund.
Mike was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Emery, Iowa the son of Siebend and Minnie (Cremer) Djuren. Mike married
Betty Martin Feb. 12, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minn. He served during WW II in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Mason City where he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Mike owned and operated Federal Barbershop for 30 years. He retired in 1988. Mike was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder, usher, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. He was also a member of the North Iowa Amateur Ham Radio Club and R.S.V.P.. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle.
Mike is survived by his wife, Betty Djuren, of Mason City; son, Dan Djuren and wife, Diane, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Anthony Djuren and wife, Melinda, of Miami, Fla., Michelle Krecl and husband, Scott, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Alyson and Ryan; sisters, Mae Mitcham of Des Moines and Esther Hougham of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harm Djuren; sisters, Marie Varvel, Irene Stoltenberg, Helen Calvert and Edna Hauer.
Louise May Loth, 94, of Belmond, Iowa was called home to Heaven on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Ave. N.E., Belmond. The Rev. Rod Hopp will be officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Wright County Hospice or the donor's choice.
Louise was born Nov. 17, 1911, to Charles and Mary (Pabbeldt) Haupt on a farm southeast of Belmond, which had been homsteaded by her grandfather, August Haupt, in 1875. She attended country schools, graduated from Belmond High School, and then went on to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She had also been a member of Kappa Alpha Beta Sorority. She taught grades one through eight in a one room country school near Kanawha.
She met the love of her life, Louis Loth, at a dance in 1936. Both were quick to say that it was "love at first sight" and were inseparable for 66 years until his death in 2002. Louise was the consumate 'farmer's wife'. As newlyweds they worked as farm hands for Nels Anderson near Clear Lake in order to save money for the machinery they would need. Together, Louie and Louise farmed the land that she was born and raised on, moving there in 1940, and raised two daughters, Mary Lou and Karen. The family loved to listen to stories of early farm life and were in awe of the hardships they endured in order to raise a family on the land she loved so. One of her proudest moments was when the farm was named a 'Century Farm' in August of 1995.
After retiring from farming in 1967, Louie and Louise loved to travel and went on numerous fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, and wintered for many years in Avon Park, Fla. They eventually moved into town in 1992.
Louise loved a good game of "Hearts", fishing, shopping, gardening, reading, and especially mowing lawn. She had a life long passion for horses. He ultimate joy in later years was spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was always ready to go on any adventure they planned. She was adored by all.
Those left to cherish her memory and rejoice in her peace are her daughter, Karen Rasmussen, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Rodney (Nikki) Rasmussen, Des Moines, Robbie (Callie) Rasmussen, Des Moines, LuJeanne (Ron) Fink, Belmond, Jolene Robbins, Belmond, Bradley (Georgia) Robbins, Forest City, Iowa, Brian (Glenda) Robbins, Clear Lake; great grandchildren Loren and Amanda Robbins, Sara, Tiffany, and Bob Fink, Sammy Robbins and Tyler Bersetti.
Greeting her in Heaven is her beloved husband, Louie Loth; daughter, Mary Lou Robbins-Wells; parents, Charles and Mary, and brothers, Irving and Claire Haupt. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond. Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
Daren Eldon Russell, 82, of 200 North 15th Street, Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Dale F. Glawatz officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake Honor Guard.
Memorials may be directed to the Daren E. Russell Memorial Fund.
Daren Eldon Russell was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Arnolds Park, Iowa, the son of Marion A. and Ruby L. (Miller) Russell. Daren graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1941, then attended one year at Omaha University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on Nov. 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged Jan. 30, 1946. He returned to Arnolds Park and the Spencer area where he worked for a dry cleaning business. Daren was united in marriage to Florence Klute on June 3, 1951, in Niles, Mich. To this union three children were born. Together they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where he managed Max I. Walker Dry Cleaning for 18 years. They moved to Clear Lake in 1970 and bought the Cottage Cleaners and Laundromat. Daren enjoyed the dry cleaning business for 43 years; retiring in 1988.
Daren enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and woodworking. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner, Iowa; former member of the Noon Lions Club, Clear Lake; member of the Board of Adjustments for the City of Clear Lake; Member of the National Association of Dry Cleaners, and a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Daren is survived by his wife, Florence Russell, of Clear Lake; children, Pamela (David) Grill, of Clear Lake, Steven Russell, of Clear Lake, Susan (Gary) Swartwood, of Mason City: grandchildren, April (Dave) Stumo, of Clear Lake, SSgt William (Mary) Barnett, of Belleville, Ill., Amanda Barnett and special friend, (Ryan Carlson), of Clear Lake, Sarah Swartwood, of Chicago, Ill, Joshua Swartwood, of Mason City, and Elizabeth Swartwood, of Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Daren and Cheyenne Barnett, of Belleville, Ill; along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Daren is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
