Elsie Holdgrafer, 91, of 917 S. 12th Ave., Marshalltown, died Oct. 23, 2007, at Grandview Heights Care Center.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with Rev. Gail Thiessen of Central Christian Church officiating. Immediately following will be a time of fellowship and refreshments by the Central Christian Church women. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Born Elsie Louise Waddle on Aug. 27, 1916, at Prairie City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Nathan and Blanche Louise (Charls) Waddle. She graduated with Prairie City High School’s Class of 1933 and later attended Drake University in Des Moines, receiving her teacher’s certificate. She taught in the elementary schools in Waterloo/Cedar Falls. On Nov. 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Edward Holdgrafer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They made their home on South 12th Avenue all of their married lives.
Mrs. Holdgrafer was employed at the Corner Tap and was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a good neighbor who enjoyed baseball, football and the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Kasper of Iowa City; nieces and nephews, including Dennis and David Holdgrafer, and Barb Earles; and her neighbor family, Jim and Elaine Fiscus and their children Jackie, Judy and Steve.
In death she has rejoined her parents; her husband who died in 1975; her brothers, Paul and George; and niece Darlene.
Joseph Dugan Jr., 66
RHODES - Joseph “Bud” Dugan Jr., 66, of Rhodes, died Oct. 20, 2007, in Benson, Minn.
Private family graveside services and burial will be at Eden Cemetery in Rhodes. Cremation rites have preceded the service and no public visitation is planned prior to service. The public is invited to gather at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Rhodes for a time of remembrance and refreshments. Peggy Baker, 80
Peggy Baker, 80, of 120 E. Anson St., Marshalltown, died Oct. 22, 2007, at her home while in the care of her loving family and Iowa River Hospice.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow in the hospitality room of the funeral home. Born Peggy Lou Riggins on July 16, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, she was the eldest of the children born to Carl and Unes (Lantz) Riggins. She received her education in the area of her birth. On Oct. 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Darrel Baker in Albert Lea, Minn. They made their home in Marshalltown and near State Center/Melbourne until returning to Marshalltown in 1969 to their home on Anson Street.
Peggy will be fondly remembered for her love of family, making candy at Christmas and giving it to all of her friends and family, her skills as a cook and baker and her famous cinnamon rolls. She will be greatly missed by many.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Kathy (Michael) Davis of Marshalltown, Sandra Baker of Marshalltown, Cheryl Kendrick of Loveland, Colo., Teresa (Dan) Curley of Marshalltown and Darrel (Shelly) Baker of LeGrand; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three grand puppies; her brothers, Jerry Riggins and Bob Riggins of Marshalltown; sister Phyllis Rickett of Marshalltown; nieces and nephews; a very special niece Linda; and a host of friends.
In death she has rejoined her parents; husband Darrel; sister Evelyn; and brothers Lance and Larry.

Funeral services for Peggy Baker, 80, were held Thursday morning at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Jennifer Daniel officiating. She was laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jacob Baker, Nathan Collins, John Baker, Charles Baker, Lyle Clayton and Darrel Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Miller, Gary Adkins, Todd Wilson, Gary Davis and Bob Shiveley.
Groups from Iowa River Hospice, Wal-Mart employees, Pepsi employees, LeGrand Fire Department and MMSC Emergency Department were in attendance.
Dale F. Borton, 69
ALBION - Graveside memorial services for Dale F. Borton, 69, were held Thursday morning at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Bea Lebuda of Albion First Presbyterian Church officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Harry C. Harter VFW Post 839.
Groups in attendance represented the Albion Volunteer Fire Department, Albion City Council, Fisher Controls, UAW Local 893 and members of Albion First Presbyterian Church.

Ronald Hazen, 72, of 1205 W. Linn St., Marshalltown, died Oct. 26, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.

Born on March 3, 1935, at home in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Lida (Snider) Hazen. He received his education in the area of his birth. On May 28, 1955, at Lancaster, Mo., he was united in marriage to Janice Bulanek. They have made their home in Marshalltown all of their married lives where he was employed at Trowbridge Construction, Cooper Manufacturing and later retired from the Marshalltown Community School District after 20-plus years in the custodial department.
He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and refinishing furniture.
Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 52 years, Janice; six children, Thelma Smith, Art (Cindy) Ayers, Deborah (Richard) Fiser, Ronald Hazen Jr., Bradford Hazen and Pamela (Russell) Haines, all of Marshalltown; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); his siblings Harlan (Dorothy) Hazen and Elston Hazen, all of Marshalltown, Elvin (Betty) Hazen of Liscomb, Ileen (Jim) Thompson of LeGrand; sister-in-law Ellen Hazen; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
In death he has rejoined his parents; brother Fred Hazen; sisters Emma Otte and Frances Brown; and half-brother Charlie.

Jim Aalfs, 64
CONRAD - Jim Aalfs, 64, of Conrad, died Oct. 27, 2007, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo while in the care of his family and Cedar Valley Hospice.
Funeral services celebrating Jim’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Conrad Cemetery. Born on Nov. 10, 1942, in Aplington, Iowa, he was the son of Jake and Angeline (Kuiper) Aalfs. He graduated from Wellsburg High School. Jim served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. On July 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ernestine Cook in Marshalltown. They resided in Melbourne until moving to Conrad in 1971. Mr. Aalfs was employed at Swift & Company for 26 years, did farm help for seven years and worked at Mid-Iowa Co-Op for the past seven years while also raising feeder pigs on the family farm on Highway 14. He and Ernestine moved into Conrad in 1995.
He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Marshalltown and Conrad American Legion. Jim will be fondly remembered for his love of family, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, hunting, bowling, the outdoors, following his boy’s sport activities and his faith. He will be greatly missed by many.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Ernestine; two sons, Jim W. (Kara) Aalfs Jr. of St. Charles, Ill. and Rick (Paula) Aalfs of Marshalltown; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Kiersten, Brooke and Jacob; his sisters, Judy (Lee) Reibkes of Wellsburg and Janet (Dan) Wieberdink of Andover, Minn.; several nieces, nephews, the Cook family and a host of friends.
In death he has rejoined his parents and brothers, John and Joe.

Laila Abudigin, 38, (Mrs. Fadalla Saeed) and her infant daughter, of 1509 E. Marion St., Marshalltown, died Oct. 26, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.

CEDAR RAPIDS - Clarice I. Lee, 85, of 4101 W. Valley Dr., Cedar Rapids, died April 22, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday at First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids. There will be no visitation. A private burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. CEDAR FALLS - Francis “Jack” L. Kaley, 84, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Marshalltown, died April 22, 2006, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls.
