Ruth Howell

Ruth Howell, 76, of Keokuk, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in her home.
She was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Carthage, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Lula Gillenwater Belknap.
She married
Kenneth H. Howell on Sept.12, 1953, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1992.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, and the Low Vision Support Group in Keokuk.
She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower gardens. She liked to quilt, embroider and crochet and square dancing.
Survivors include: three daughters, Judy Collins and her husband, Rick, of Fort Worth, Texas, Diana Zimmerman and her husband, Rick, of Peoria, Ill., and Pam Hartzell and her husband, Tom, of Carthage, Ill.; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; six sisters, Alletia Hale of Carthage, Erma Inman of Texas, Dorothy Bundy and her husband, Howard, and Rosa Hoing, all of Rock Island, Ill., Evelyn Brown and her husband, Ronald, of Moline, Ill., and Betty Castelli of Chicago; three brothers, Franklin Belknap and his wife, Joan, and Willis Belknap and his wife, Margaret, all of Carthage, and Jessie Belknap of Rock Island.
She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tracy Ann Henson; five sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Jack Spratte officiating.
Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Sunday, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Garden Club or City of Christmas.
Helen Grace Inman
Dec. 17, 1910 - June 9, 2004
DAVENPORT - Helen Grace Inman, 93, of Davenport, formerly a longtime resident of Hamilton, Ill., died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Genesis West, Davenport.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1910, in Sutter, Ill., the daughter of Fredrick and Maud Launer Buckert.
She married
Thomas H. Inman on Oct. 17, 1938, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1976.
Survivors include: a daughter, Rosemary (and husband, Bill) Churchill of Davenport; a brother, Harold (and wife, Marilyn) Buckert of Carthage, Ill.; five grandchildren, Nichole Churchill of Phoenix, Ariz., Gretchen Churchill of Centreville, Va., Bret Churchill of New York, N.Y., Zachary Churchill of Chicago and Teri Inman of Tioga, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Terry Inman, on March 13, 1995; two sisters, Betty Eagerton and Evelyn Spencer; and four brothers, Russell, James and Robert Buckert, and a brother in infancy.
She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1930. She lived in Hamilton all of her married
life and until May 1998, when she moved to Clarissa C. Cook Home in Davenport. She and her husband owned and operated Tommy's in Hamilton until 1975.
Mrs. Inman was a member of The First Christian Church of Hamilton and active in Christian Women's Fellowship and King's Daughters. She was a life-member of Carthage V.F.W. Post #5117 Auxiliary, Hamilton American Legion Auxiliary, Hancock County Home Extension and Hamilton Business and Professional Women. She volunteered as a 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader and at Hamilton Senior Citizens. She remained active with her many interests and hobbies which included music, dancing, sewing, reading, crafting, crocheting, ceramics, cards, dominos and traveling. While in Davenport, Helen enjoyed activities at CASI.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton with the Rev. Paul M. Smith officiating.
Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Taps will be played at the graveside in memory of her son, Terry, and her affiliation with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Family will meet with friends between 9 and 11 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton.
Elizabeth E. 'Tiny' Stedman
Nov. 24, 1937 - June 27, 2004
Elizabeth E. "Tiny" Stedman, 66, of Keokuk, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Keokuk, the daughter of Russell and Alma Cady Steele.
She had been employed for 21 years as a resident care assistant at the Lee County Care Facility, which later became Eagle Summit.
She was a member of the Anchor of Hope Fellowship in Keokuk.
She enjoyed reading books and watching the daily news on television. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include: three sisters, Esther Thorn, Sandra Briggs and her husband, Robert, and Mildred Wagner and her husband Robert, all of Keokuk; a brother, Leland Steele and his wife, Robin, of Keokuk; a brother-in-law, David Salyers of Keokuk; two nephews that she considered as sons, Michael Salyers and Russell Steele, both from Keokuk; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lois Taylor; and three brothers, Charles Steele, Russell Steele Jr. and Richard Lee Steele.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. John Varner officiating.
Burial will be in the Buena Vista Mound Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation is today, with the family meeting with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Anchor of Hope Fellowship or for headstone expense.
Marie D. Benner
Dec. 2, 1912 - July 30, 2004
Marie D. Benner, 91 of Keokuk, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Lexington Square, Keokuk
She was born Dec. 2, 1912, in rural Keokuk, the daughter of John and Lora High Danford.
She married
Charles E. Benner on May 13, 1933, in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1983.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Keokuk, the Jennie Lee Sunday School Class, Sandusky Ladies Aid Organization, and a life member of the American Federation of Musicians.
She served as pianist for many years for the Women of the Moose and the Royal Neighbor Lodge in Keokuk. She was widely known for her participation in musical groups in the community and surrounding area. She was presented the Spirit of Keokuk Award in 1997 for her volunteer work in the community.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family. She often babysat for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles E. "Ed" Benner Sr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Keokuk, and Thomas L. Benner Sr. and his wife, Maris, of Montrose; a daughter, Karen Petersen and her husband, Jim, of Keokuk; 10 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Betts.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in the Sandusky Cemetery, rural Keokuk.
Visitation is today, with the family meeting with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Sandusky's Ladies Aid Organization or the donor's choice.
Bernadine Margaret Wilhelm
Nov. 7, 1915 - July 30, 2004
Bernadine Margaret Wilhelm, 88, of Keokuk, died at 6:51 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Burlington, the daughter of Charles and Ellen M. Peterson Carmichael.
She married
John H. Wilhelm on Jan. 15, 1943, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1996.
She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Keokuk.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Wilhelm of Mount Pleasant, and Stan Wilhelm and his wife, Doris, of Keokuk; and two granddaughters, Dr. Lisa Wilhelm Mossengren and her husband, Douglas, of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Katie Wilhelm of Keokuk
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Services were scheduled this morning at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk.
Visitation was Sunday at DeJong's Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Keokuk or Keokuk Area Hospital.
Marie Eileen Taulman
April 12, 1918 - July 30, 2004
Marie Eileen Taulman, 86, of Keokuk, died at 2:20 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born April 12, 1918, in Keokuk, the daughter of Arthur L. and Marie E. Murphy Jones.
She married
Dale Van Zant. She later married
Eugene E. Taulman on Aug. 29, 1955, in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1995.
She lived in Keokuk a majority of her life, with the exception of residing in Sioux City from 1968 to 1995. She had worked at La Charm Beauty Shop and was a member of the cosmetology group of Keokuk.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and the Ladies of Charity.
Survivors include: a daughter, Teresa Roberts and her husband, Dennis, of Fort Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Judy Roberts; a sister, Bernice McCarty of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Van Zant, and a brother, Lonnie Jones.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk, with the Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.
Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation is today at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk, with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian vigil service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association.
