Thelma D. Blakely, 74, of Keokuk died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on May 2, 1934, in Lewis County, Mo., the daughter of Homer George and Nada Fay Tompkins Lay.
She married
Kenneth Albert Blakely on May 30, 1952, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1996.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lewistown Cemetery, Lewistown, Mo.
Charles E. Harland
FARMINGTON - Charles E. Harland, 60, of rural Farmington, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo.
Albert Anthony Linnenbrink
Nov. 12, 1923 - April 27, 2009
IOWA CITY - Albert Anthony Linnenbrink, 85, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, in Greenwood Manor, Iowa City.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1923, in Fort Madison, the son of Harry and Dorothy Linnenbrink.
He married
Marion Louise Holtkamp on Sept. 11, 1945, in St. James Catholic Church, St. Paul, while on leave prior to shipping out for Japan. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2005.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Point, where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a Christian wake service will take place at 6 p.m. at the church.
A mass of Christian burial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Fr. Apo T. Mpanda as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Point.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Amenity Hospice of Iowa City.
Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory, West Point, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charles Everett Harland
Jan. 18, 1949 - April 27, 2009
FARMINGTON - Charles Everett Harland, 60, of rural Farmington, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home.
He had bravely fought a long, courageous battle with brain cancer.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1949, in Shelbina, Mo., the son of Ellery and Norma Snider Harland.
He married
Lois Jean White on June 25, 1972, in Anson, Mo., and they spent nearly 37 years teaching, farming and enjoying their daughter, Tara.
He graduated from South Shelby High School in 1967 and received his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1971, and his master's degree in secondary school administration in 1979.
He taught math and was assistant football coach at Westran School District in Huntsville, Mo, and at Clark County R-1 Schools in Kahoka, Mo. He later taught math at Revere C-3 School in Revere, Mo.
He began farming full time in 1987 and loved working with his cattle, crops and machinery; especially his tractors. He enjoyed reading, golfing, camping, going to farm auctions and antique tractor exhibits, sitting under the shade tree in the front yard and drinking coffee at the Bridge Café.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois, of the home; a daughter, Tara Beth Harland of Jefferson City, Mo.; his father, Ellery Harland and his wife, Dorothy, of Shelbina, Mo.; five siblings, Ken (Ginger) Harland of Jefferson City, Barb Talbert of Monroe City, Mo., and Kathy (Jim) Thompson, Gene (Connie) Harland and Ed Harland, all of Shelbina; and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Harland, aunts and uncle, Mary Margaret Snider and Jim and Lorene Kidwell, and a cousin, Kelli Kidwell, all of Shelbina; his in-laws, Harold and Naomi White of Farmington; and a brother-in-law, Trooper Talbert of Monroe City.
He was a member of Blue Key Service Organization, Missouri State Teachers Association, local teacher's associations, the Anson Community Church Board and Revere C-3 School Board.
Most dear to his heart was his service in the Gideon's International, where he enjoyed placing Bibles in local hotels and giving New Testaments to fifth graders in area schools each year. The Gideons also purchase and place Bibles in numerous countries around the globe.
He belonged to the Shelbina United Methodist Church and later became a member of Anson Community Church, Amazing Grace Bible Church. He presently attended the Bonaparte Baptist Church.
Charlie was a kind, gentle man who loved the Lord. He loved his family and friends, and always treated others with courtesy and respect. He was a humble man of few words and lived his faith through his actions.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, with Pastor Mark Caston officiating.
Burial will follow in the Christy Cemetery, Acasto, Mo.
Friends can call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Gideon's International for Bibles, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, or Blessing Hospice Service of Hancock, Co.

FORT MADISON - Robert Ward, 66, of Fort Madison died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.

Margaret D. Case
Aug. 26, 1920 - April 29, 2009
AVON, Conn. - Margaret D. Case, 88, of Avon Health Center, Avon, Conn., died Wednesday, April, 29, 2009.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1920, in Keokuk, the daughter of Roy and Nellie Sherwood.
Margaret was a direct descendant of Thomas Sherwood, one of the first residents of Wethersfield, Conn., in 1634. Her grandfather moved from Fairfield, Conn. to Kahoka, Mo. Margaret's father and mother lived in nearby Keokuk.
She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1938. She attended Iowa State University, obtaining a degree in home economics in 1942. While attending Iowa State, she married
her high school sweetheart, Philip M. Chamberlain and they had three children, Gene, Dennis and Nicole. Phil's occupation took the family to Rochester N.Y., Palo Alto, Calif., and then to Dallas in 1958. Margaret and Phil divorced in 1961. Margaret later married
James Case, but she was quickly widowed when her husband had a massive heart attack within the first year of their marriage.
She earned a master's degree in nutrition at Texas Women's University in 1977 and went on to become the supervising dietitian for school meals at all public schools in Dallas. Through her church, the John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Margaret met Lee Metz and his family of children and grandchildren around 1988. They developed a lengthy relationship before his death in 2005.
Survivors include: a sister, Mary Browne and family; nieces, Debbie Strom and family, Chris Behling and family and Lisa Browne; a nephew, Ted Browne and family; a son, Gene (Karen) Chamberlain; grandchildren Alex and Elizabeth Chamberlain, all of Farmington, Conn.; a son, Dennis (Brenda) Chamberlain of Corrales, N.M. a grandson, Cory (Christi) Chamberlain of Novato, Calif.; a daughter, Nicole Chamberlain of Chicago; special friends, members of the John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas; residents and staff of the Village Gate of Farmington; residents and staff of the Avon Health Center; children and grandchildren of Lee Metz family of Dallas and Kathy (Metz) Cordes, Greg Metz and Debbie (Metz) Morgan.
After living in Iowa for 20 years, New York for 13, California for two, and Texas for 50 years, Margaret moved to Connecticut in 2007, residing at the Village Gate in Farmington. In late 2008, she was stricken with congestive heart failure, which resulted in her final move to the Avon Health Center. She passed quickly and peacefully.
Margaret will be remembered for her generous and happy spirit and for her wonderful smiles and giggles. She was a star that burned brightly in our lives and now she gets to burn bright in God's heavenly kingdom.
Services and burial will take place in Keokuk at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Chester Milligan
Chester Milligan, 87, of Keokuk died Monday, May 4, 2009, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.
Robert ‘Bob' L. Ward Jr.
Aug. 15, 1942 - May 3, 2009
FORT MADISON - Robert “Bob” L. Ward Jr., 66, of Fort Madison died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1942, in Ottumwa, the son of Robert L. and Celora J. Edwards Ward.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Fort Madison.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, gardening and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed collecting anything and everything. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being ornery and having fun.
Being a dad was his greatest accomplishment. He was proud of all his children.
Survivors include: two daughters, Diana Bennett of Keokuk and Stashia Ward Lammers and her husband, John, of Kirksville, Mo.; two sons, Shawn Bennett of Keokuk and Ronald Ward of Fort Madison; three sisters, Carolyn Ward Derr and her husband, Roger, of Des Moines, Beth Ward Diaz of Silverdale, Wash., and Lora Ward Chaney and her husband, Rick, of Yellville, Ark.; a brother, Rodney Ward and his wife, Karla, of Yellville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Randolph Owen; an infant brother, William Wesley Ward; and many friends.
Graveside services with military rites will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome to meet at the cemetery to pay tribute to Bob's life.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, is in charge of arrangements.
Everett E. ‘Weiner' Mead
Jan. 23, 1935 - May 5, 2009
Everett E. “Weiner” Mead, 74, of Keokuk died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1935, in Ethel, Mo., the son of Estel and Barbara Speaks Mead.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include: five sons, Chris Mead and his friend, Teresa Pietz, and Richard Evans, all of Ft. Madison, and Ronnie Mead, Steven Mead and Michael Mead; his mother, Barbara Mead of Montrose; two sisters, Betty Jones of Montrose and Darlene Jones of Keokuk; two brothers, Bob Mead of Montrose and Gerald Mead and his wife, Sue, of Montrose; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Michelle Franks of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; and a sister, Rosetta Mead.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
There will be no visitation.
