Gwendolyn Faith Jeffery Helmick Eden

FARMINGTON - Gwendolyn Faith Jeffery Helmick Eden, 74, of Farmington died Sunday, May 24, 2009, in Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1934, in Winfield, the daughter of Edwin and Nina Newman Jeffery.
She married
Charles LaMar Helmick on Jan. 7, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1988. She married
Fredrick John Eden on Aug. 18, 1990. He remains to cherish her memory.
She graduated from Donnellson High School and lived most of her life in the New Boston, Bonaparte and Farmington areas.
She worked as a high school secretary and elementary school teacher's associate at Central Lee School District and as library assistant at Harmony High School for several years. She was the administrator of King's Daughters Home in Fort Madison from 1990 until it closed.
She was a member of Peaksville Christian Church in Peaksville, Mo. She also was a member of Artaban Chapter No. 483, Donnellson, and Bonaparte Red Hatters. She served for five years as a 4-H leader. She was a longtime member of the former Martha Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Montrose, in which she held many offices.
Additional survivors include: two daughters, Laurie (John) Simmons of Keosauqua and Wendy (Jeff) Buford of Donnellson; a son, Jeff (Bobbi) Helmick of Keokuk; a stepdaughter, Cathy (Sam) Ruth of Bonaparte; two stepsons, Rick (Cynthia) Eden and John (Dayle) Eden, both of Bonaparte; grandchildren, Justin, B.J., Kellie, Jerod, Travis, Jill, Tyler, James, Mike, Shelley, Amy, Matt, Eric, Erin and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Amber, Salena, Tessa, Bree, Colton, Ben, Shanna, Dalton, Madeline, Brandon, Caylin, Rylie and Baylee; and a sister, Yvonne (Forrest) Hawkins of Montrose.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, James; and a granddaughter, Kristie.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with the Revs. Shawn McAfee and Herb Doty officiating.
Visitation is from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Charleston Cemetery.

Roy L. 'Bob' Krueger Jr.
Roy L. “Bob” Krueger Jr., 78, of Keokuk died at 7:40 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2009, at River Hills Village, Keokuk.
Funeral arrangements are pending at DeJong’s Funeral Home in Keokuk.
Christy ‘Chris’ L. Murphy

Christy “Chris” L. Murphy, 54, of Keokuk died Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1954, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Billy and Eloise Belger Beaty.
She was united in marriage to John Murphy on Oct. 22, 1977, in Fairfax. He survives.
Additional survivors include: a daughter, Tracy Murphy of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Sean Murphy of Cedar Falls and Matthew Murphy of Keokuk; her parents of Fairfax; a sister, Cindy Young and her husband, Chuck, of Palo; a brother, Michael Beaty of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Knight.
She graduated from Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids with the Class of 1973. She had been employed as branch manager at State Central Bank in Keokuk for 11 years. Most recently, she had been the owner and operator of Little Charmers Day Care in Keokuk for four years.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, scrapbooking, crafts and playing computer games.
A mass of Christian burial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk, with Fr. Paul Connolly officiating.
Visitation is after 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Look Good Feel Good Center at Blessing Hospital, Quincy.
Ruth Faulkner

FARMINGTON - Ruth Faulkner, 88, of rural Farmington, died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, in the Donnellson Health Center.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1921, in North Bend, Neb., the daughter of Henry H. and Anna Hoffman Hudson.
She married
Roy E. Faulkner on Jan. 21, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1993.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, Ill., with the Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon today at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory, Donnellson.
A memorial has been established.
Hunter Ray Rule
MONTROSE - Hunter Ray Rule, the son of Benjamin Rule and Cassandra Hudson of Montrose, died at birth on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
He is survived by his parents; maternal grandparents, Diana and Tim Adamire of Montrose and Chris and Connie Hudson, also of Montrose; paternal grandparents, Barb and Dean Jacobs of Montrose and Billy and Jeannie Rule of Keokuk; great-grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers and three cousins.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Montrose Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Roy Lambert Krueger Jr.

Roy Lambert Krueger Jr., 78, of Keokuk passed away quietly on Monday, May 25, 2009, in River Hills Village, Keokuk.
Roy, or 'Bob,' as he was known to family and friends, was born on June 29, 1930, in Keokuk, the son of Roy Sr. and Ruth M. Krueger. He was the second of five children.
He attended Keokuk public schools and graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, with a degree in accounting. He entered the Army in 1953 during the Korean War, and spent one year in Japan, where he was assigned to an accounting office. The Japanese culture fascinated him. He spent as much time as possible sight-seeing, which included a trek up Mt. Fuji with the crowds of locals and tourists.
After his discharge from the Army, he made his permanent home in Keokuk, taking a job with The Hubinger Company. His corn-buying skills earned him a trip to Russia during the Communist era. He recounted the atmosphere of discouragement among the people. Bob left The Hubinger Company after ownership changed, and eventually joined his brother, Henry, at Krueger Brokerage.
He married
Marion Robertson Courtney on Dec. 1, 1969, and they spent 37 years together before her passing in 2006.
Bob loved to fish and was an avid duck hunter. Later in life his attention turned toward gardening. He grew exotic plants in his greenhouse and supplied his family and neighbors with luscious tomatoes and other vegetables from his backyard garden. His active life was shortened by a recurrence of cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
Survivors include: a brother, Henry Krueger and his wife, Frances; a sister, Martha Acer and her husband, John; two stepsons, Roger Courtney and his wife, Rhonda, and Ron Courtney and his wife, Mary Lou; five stepgrandchildren, Matthew Courtney, Amy Courtney and Hillary Kluthe and her husband, Justin, David Courtney and Andrew Courtney; 14 nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sally Dains and Diane Hughes.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at DeJong's Funeral Home, Keokuk, with the Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with family meeting friends at this time.
Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery, with full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Association, or American Cancer Society.

NEW LONDON - Jack J. Saunders, 66, of New London, formerly of Bonaparte, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1943, in Bonaparte, the son of Dale and Gladys Shawen Saunders.
Friends may call and meet with family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory in Farmington.
There will be a private family graveside service Friday in the Bonaparte Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Caston officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Bonaparte Fire Department.
Maxine L. Krebill

DONNELLSON - Maxine L. Krebill, 91, of Donnellson died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in Fort Madison Community Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in Donnellson, the daughter of Ernest and Eva Hertzler Hackard.
She married
Ivan W. Krebill on March 31, 1936, in Virginia, Ill. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2003.
Services were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. today at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory in Donnellson, with Pastor Audrey Ratzlaff officiating.
Visitation was held prior to the time of the service.
Burial was in the Zion Mennonite Cemetery, rural Donnellson.
Memorials may be made to the Zion Mennonite Church.
Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory, Donnellson, was in charge of arrangements.
