Robert Jones Jr., 61, Montrose

MONTROSE – Robert Arthur Jones Jr., 61, of Montrose, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in Burlington.

Robert was born June 23, 1955, at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, the son of Robert A. Sr. and Dorothy Irene Sporer-Wellman Jones.

He lived all his life in the Fort Madison and Keokuk area and graduated from Fort Madison High School.

He worked for the cities of Fort Madison and Burlington and at various jobs in the area.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose. He enjoyed making and collecting Native American crafts and was a former member of the Standing Bear Council. He loved music, singing karaoke, and singers Ozzy Osborn and Alice Cooper. He enjoyed All Star Wrestling and met several of the wrestlers.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy “Irene” Jones of Fort Madison; special companion, Peggy Jamison of Montrose; and two uncles, three aunts and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center, 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be from 9: to 11 a.m. directly before the service.

Memorials are suggested to Great River Hospice.

David 'Dave' Jenkins, 73, El Mirage, Ariz.

El MIRAGE, Ariz. – David L. “Dave” Jenkins, 73, born March 16, 1944, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017, in El Mirage, Ariz.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta; a son, Tim (Stacy) Jenkins of Barry, Ill.; a daughter, Jennifer Olsen of Roberts, Wis.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his mother, Bonnie Jenkins of Hamilton, Ill.; and brother, Larry (Sandra) Jenkins of Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Jenkins.

Dave was a barber in Hamilton for several years. In 1985, he moved to Arizona, where he owned and operated his barber shop for the past 31 years. Dave was a John Wayne fan and decorated his shop with John Wayne memorabilia.

There will be no local service. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Barbara Printy Bragg, 81, Fremont, Calif.

FREMONT, Calif. – Barbara Printy Bragg, born Aug. 29, 1935, in Keokuk, died May 21, 2017, surrounded by her husband, Teddy Leon Bragg, and her seven children as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1953 before moving to California in 1959.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1960. She remained a faithful servant until her death, at which point she was cremated according to her wishes.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jennifer Mason, 55, Burlington

BURLINGTON – Jennifer Lynn Mason, 55, of Burlington, formerly of Keokuk, passed away on May 1, 2017, at her home.

Jennifer’s life will be remembered with a private graveside service. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Burlington Notre Dame School chapel, with a luncheon directly following in the school lunch room.

DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers of Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.

David Graber, 103, Donnellson

DONNELLSON – David Lowell Graber, 103, of rural Donnellson, passed away at 4:44 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Fort Madison, the son of Henry and Rhoda Wilson Graber.

Survivors include his wife, Lethia; and a son, Dean (Esther) Graber of Burlington.

Friends may call and meet with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating.

Burial with full military rites by the Fort Madison Veteran Honor Guard will be in Soldiers Circle of Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

Kevin 'Keke' Kemper Jr., 33, Keokuk

Kevin Bruce “Keke” Kemper Jr., 33, of Keokuk, died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born on May 8, 1984, in Iowa City, the son of Floyd E. Turtle and Tammy S. Page.

He graduated from Central Lee High School with the Class of 2002.

He had been employed at Henniges in Keokuk.

Kevin was a talented artist and enjoyed woodcarving, drawing and creating unique tattoos. He collected driftwood, bones, rocks and other items in nature to create works of art. He loved his children and enjoyed spending time with them and entertaining them.

He is survived by a son, Naevan Atreyu Kemper of Keokuk; a daughter, Charlotte Ailyn Kemper of Keokuk; his mother, Tammy Sue Page of Keokuk; his father, Floyd “Bucky” Turtle of Keokuk; a sister, Mary Danielle Kemper of Mount Vernon; grandmother, Mary Jane Page of Montrose; a half-brother, Daniel Kemper of Burlington; mothers of his children, Trisha Jones and Megan Adams; a niece, Mary Jane Oppedal; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his poppy, Robert Page; and a cousin, David Gaudino.

A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home, with Pastor Bob Payne officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home, with family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to the family for his children’s education fund.

Robert "Bob" Parmeter, 55, Pflugerville, Texas

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – Robert Gerard “Bob” Parmeter, 55, passed away March 28, 2017, in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness.

Bob was born May 25, 1961, in Keokuk, to John and Mary Kathleen Cummings Parmeter.

Bob graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in 1979, and moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1984. After living in San Antonio, San Marcos, and Round Rock, Bob moved to Pflugerville, Texas, in 2009, where he continued to reside until his death.

Bob worked for many years programming and maintaining gas pumps, most recently for PumpTex Inc. He was known as an expert in the field, consulting with many different companies and training technicians. Bob was a proud homeowner and loved nothing more than working on and around his house. He was known to have the most beautiful yard in his neighborhood. Bob also loved his jet ski and spent much time on the water in and around Austin, Texas. Although Bob was a private person, he was a great friend and coworker. He touched many lives through his work and in his community.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, John Richard Parmeter; and his niece, Madeline Claire Shodeen Parmeter.

Left to honor and remember him with love are his mother, Mary Kathleen Parmeter of Keokuk; siblings, Tom Parmeter (Brigitte) of Ennepetal, Germany, Mary Ann Walker of Charlotte, N.C., Dick Parmeter of Keokuk, John Parmeter (Anita Shodeen) of Des Moines, Peg Parmeter of Houston, Pete Parmeter of Keokuk, Bill Parmeter of Fort Myers, Fla., Jim Parmeter (Rose) of Charlotte, Kathy Gichard (Warren) of Solon, Rene Hamilton (Mike) of Houston and Patty Stolley of Iowa City; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of All Saints Catholic Church, 310 S. Ninth St., Keokuk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the charities closest to his heart: The Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Judith Brisby, 80, Montrose

MONTROSE – Judith M. Brisby, 80, of Montrose, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Argyle, the daughter of Harland and Garnet Richey Holland.

On March 19, 1961, she was united in marriage to Eugene Brisby. He survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Scot Brisby, Todd (Gretchen) Brisby, Jeff Brisby and Kent Brisby; six grandchildren, Kaycee, Allison, Jared, Daly, Regan and Amber; a sister, Mary Hemmie of Montrose; a brother, Mark Holland (Barbara) of Montrose; a brother-in-law, Jack Brisby of Montrose; a sister-in-law, Ruby Westermeyer of Keokuk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carole Holland.

Judith graduated from Argyle High School with the Class of 1956.

She had been employed by Keokuk Savings Bank for 44 years until her retirement in 2002.

Judith was a member of Montrose Presbyterian Church. She had been very active in the community through the years. She had served on the Watermelon Festival Committee for 25 years, served on the Montrose City Council for eight years, was a member of the Montrose Youth Activity Committee and had served as secretary and treasurer for Park Ridge Workshop. She also served on the Central Lee School Board, and had been the treasurer for the Central Lee School Foundation.

Judith enjoyed cooking and loved all types of flowers. She enjoyed vacationing in the Ozarks and Branson, Mo. She also liked to try her luck at the casinos, but never went over her $10 limit. Judith adored her grandchildren and was an enthusiastic fan of all their school activities.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Montrose Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday, at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Montrose Fire Department or Central Lee Sports Boosters.

Linda Brown, 61, Montrose

MONTROSE – Linda Lee Brown, 61, of Montrose, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in Revere, Mo.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1955, in Keokuk, the daughter of Steven and Martha Mae Kay Brown.

She married Elmer Burgess in 1974. They later divorced.

She had been employed at Charlie’s Tap in Montrose and the Purple Cow in Alexandria, Mo.

Linda enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles and listening to country music. She also enjoyed traveling, but didn’t have a very good sense of direction so she often got lost. She loved her dogs and cats and treated them like family. But most of all, she loved being a grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her boyfriend, Curtis Stinson of Revere; three daughters, Shelly (Scott) Murphy of Kahoka, Mo., Lori Burgess of Keokuk and Julia (Jeff) Dennison of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Andrews of Jasper, Ga., and Diane LaFever of Australia; two brothers, Pete (Chris) Brown of Missouri and Billy Brown of Keokuk; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Steven “Butch” Brown and John Brown.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will be in Donnell Cemetery in Donnellson.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the family to help with Linda’s final expenses.
