Daniel Stice, 59, Keokuk
Daniel Anthony Stice, 59, of Keokuk, passed away early Wednesday morning on May 10, 2017, at his home.
Daniel was born Jan. 26, 1958, in Muscatine, the son of John Jr. and Evelyn Rose Strice.
Daniel lived most of his life in Keokuk. He worked for himself as an artist. He served in the Army. He enjoyed writing, reading books and sci fi movies. Daniel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He referred to himself as “Dr. Dan.”
Daniel is survived by his three children, Cassandra (John) Bowden, Alyssia (Sam Wiggins) Stice and Cedric (Carrie) Stice, all of Keokuk; nine grandchildren, Jesse Stice, Angela Bowden, Frankie Bowden, Ashley Wiggins, Joseph Stice, Anastasia McNeill, Jackson Wiggins, Emma Rhodes and Ruth Stice; two sisters, Sharon (Eric) Borgwardt and Judy Thompson; and three brothers, Richard Stice, Tim Stice and David (Cim) Stice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Monday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers, 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk, officiated by Pastor Ray Gilbert. Burial with full military rites will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. directly before the service.

Frank 'June' Weirather Jr., 92, Fort Madison
FORT MADISON – Frank Leo “June” Weirather Jr., 92, of Fort Madison, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Keokuk, the son of Frank and Anne Watznauer Weirather.
He was first united in marriage to Elda Mae Cafer in 1954 in Fort Madison. She preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 1989. He later married
Ann Glasgow Peterie on Dec. 28, 1996, in Keokuk. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Mark (Bev) Weirather of Keokuk; a daughter, Beverly Weirather of Rock Island, Ill.; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; a stepdaughter, Judy (Vic) Conlee of Montrose; a stepson, Mike (Donna) Peterie of Fort Madison; eight stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a brother, Harold Weirather; and a sister, Theresa Erickson.
Frank graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1943.
He had been employed by Stone Container in Keokuk for 25 years until his retirement in 1988. He also was a crop farmer for many years.
Frank was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, the Moose Lodge in Burlington and the Jackson Township Fire Association. He also was a member of the Swing Easy Square Dancing Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with Father Robert Lathrop officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to Jackson Township Fire Department.
Heather McDowell, 53, Montrose
MONTROSE – Heather Ann McDowell, 53, of Montrose, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at her home following a short illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Kenneth and Rosemary Kay Cline.
On Nov. 23, 1986, she married
Edward McDowell at the Church of All Saints. He survives.
Heather was working at Henniges Automotive at the time of her death. In her younger years, she showed horses.
Heather also is survived by a son, Cameron McDowell and Brittnie Terhune of Farmington; and a brother, Allen Cline of Montrose.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Danny Cline.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a celebration of her life at 1:30 p.m. at Sandusky Cemetery, rural Keokuk.
Jonn Kirchner, 76, Donnellson
DONNELLSON – Jonn Frederick Kirchner, 76, of Donnellson, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Donnellson, the son of Carl Frederick and Eva Hester Rohdy Kirchner.
Survivors include his wife, Patti of Donnellson; and two sons, Tom Kirchner and Rob (Paula Miller) Kirchner, both of Donnellson.
His body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
A celebration of Jonn’s life will be held at a later date.
Raymond 'Richard Glasgow, 84, Eldon
ELDON – Raymond “Richard” Glasgow, 84, of Eldon, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born Jan. 25, 1933, the son of Raymond and Beulah Kitson Glasgow, in Wyaconda, Mo. After his parents divorced, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Mary Louise Glasgow.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hepker; two children and four stepchildren.
Graveside services with military rites were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ballard Cemetery in rural Kahoka, Mo., with Pastor Orlie Yoder officiating.
There was no visitation.
Kerry Varner, 49, Keokuk
Kerry Lynn Varner, 49, of Keokuk, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at her home.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1967, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Gary Swainey and Karen Charlene Trumbo Smith.
She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1985.
On April 27, 1991, Kerry was united in marriage to William “Billy” A. Varner in Keokuk. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Trenton Lee Varner and Cody C. Varner, both of Keokuk; five grandchildren, Aubrie Quinn Mikell, Ethan Dresden, Channing Hansen, Kylee Stepp and Adalynn Smith; her father and co-mom, Gary A. Swainey and Vickey of Keokuk; her mom, Karen C. Smith of Keokuk; three sisters, Cathleen A. Courtois (Steve) of Keokuk, Deaven L. Swainey of Minnesota and Kacey L. Swainey (Adam Seabold) of Missouri; three brothers, Andrew G. Swainey (Missy Clise) of Ohio, Ryan C. Swainey (Karin) of Minnesota and Sean A. Swainey (Raegan) of Keokuk; several nieces and nephews; and her father-in-law, Richard Varner of Keokuk.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents; her beloved uncle, Craig; and her mother-in-law, Joyce Varner.
Kerry had been employed at Hy-Vee Food Store in Keokuk.
She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting anything and everything, cooking, sewing and crafting until she was unable to do these things any longer due to her illness. She loved her puppy Herky who was her faithful companion. Most of all, Kerry enjoyed spending time with her family. Kerry was a loving wife and devoted mother whose greatest joy was to care for her family. Her nieces and nephews were the sunshine of her life and she loved spending time with them.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty for Animals or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
John Kirchner, 76, Donnellson
DONNELLSON – John Kirchner, 76, of Donnellson, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services are pending at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.
Jennifer Mason, 55, Burlington
BURLINGTON – Jennifer Lynn Mason, 55, of Burlington, formerly of Keokuk, passed away on May 1, 2017, at her home in Burlington.
Jennifer was born on Oct. 2, 1961, the daughter of Norman and Marilyn Akers Mason.
After attending Keokuk High School and graduating from Keokuk Christian Academy, Jennifer moved to Burlington, where she lived for about 35 years.
She was a dedicated and punctual employee of Burlington Notre Dame High School for more than 10 years, where she worked hard and made many friends. Jennifer will always be remembered for her kind and giving nature, and her loving personality. Those who knew Jennifer would describe her as a person who was always happy and never complained.
Jennifer loved her cat, Tigger, who was her constant companion. She enjoyed watching “The Golden Girls” and listening to Elvis, The Beatles, the Bee Gees, and Reba McEntire, who reminded her of her mother, Marilyn. Jennifer passed the time hanging out at Day-HAB in Burlington, and visiting the casinos, often with her mother and their friend, Ralph.
Jennifer is survived by her father, Norman Mason; her uncle, Robert Mason; and her stepbrother, David Varner.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Varner; and her stepfather, Larry Varner.
Jennifer’s life will be remembered with a private graveside service. A memorial service will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Keokuk Humane Society, P.A.W. Animal Shelter, and Rescare Adult Day-HAB.
