Kenneth 'Ken' McManis, 91, Keokuk
Kenneth James “Ken” McManis, 91, of Keokuk, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1926, in Keokuk, the son of Lee R. and Adelle Barbara Lowenstein McManis.
On May 22, 1945, Ken was united in marriage to Shirley May Lowrey in Iowa City. She preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 2005. He married
Mary Heslop Lucas on Nov. 24, 2006, in Keokuk. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Gail (Lee) Ralya of Springfield, Mo., and Cyndi (Frank) Mason of Keokuk; two sons, David (Connie) McManis of Burlington and Mark (Liz) McManis of Frisco, Colo.; two stepsons, Jeff (Christina) Lucas of Chicago and Scott Lucas of Denver; two stepdaughters, Susan (Rob) Bergstrom of Fort Madison and Jennifer (Kirk) Noel of Granger; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Camden; and three brothers, Chester McManis in infancy, Donald McManis and Orion McManis.
Ken graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1944.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II.
Ken was the owner/operator of McManis Contractors in Keokuk. He began his career in construction by serving a four-year apprenticeship with his father. From 1950 until his retirement in 1979, Ken built many homes in Keokuk.
He was an active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he taught Sunday school and served as an elder. He also made sure things around the church were fixed and kept in tip-top shape. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 41.
Ken enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes, traveling, cooking and personal investment. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was very active in their lives.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, with the Rev. Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Lee County Hospice.
Lois Evermon, 66, Wyaconda, Mo.
WYACONDA, Mo. – Lois Jean Curtis Evermon, 66, of Wyaconda, Mo., went home to heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 27, 2017.
Lois was born March 26, 1951, in Keokuk, the daughter of Uhl Otto and Martha Elizabeth Baskett Curtis.
On July 13, 1991, she was united in marriage to Vernon Evermon in St. Francisville, Mo. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Brenda Witte (Kenneth) of Rock Island, Ill.; three grandchildren, Keri, Jeremy and Andrew (Jessica) Witte; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine “Gerri” Sackfield of Cedar Rapids; a brother, John Curtis (Marilyn) of Keokuk; three sisters-in-law, Madilyn Curtis (Robert) of Davenport, Dorothy Conover (Dean) of Canton, Mo., and Barb Beaird (Alan) of Wyaconda; and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Herbert Cale; father and mother-in-law; a grandson; three brothers; two sisters; two brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
Lois had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk for 33 years until her retirement.
She attended of Anchor of Hope Fellowship in Keokuk.
Lois enjoyed singing, dancing, watching old Western shows and shooting pool. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors trap shooting, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and archery. Most of all, Lois loved spending time with her family and spoiling her four-legged companions, Lucy, Sandy and Mabel.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Anchor of Hope, 1628 Concert St., Keokuk, with pastors John and Marilyn Curtis officiating.
A gathering of remembrance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, Mo., with the family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
Roger Day, 48, Keokuk
Roger Lee Day, 48, of Keokuk, formerly of LaHarpe, Ill., passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
He was born July 14, 1968, in Macomb, Ill., the son of James and Marlene Mittermyer Day.
Survivors include his fiancée, Bobbi Jo Hommer; a son, Bradley Day of LaHarpe; and a daughter, Shelby Lynn Day of LaHarpe.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.
Teresa Lynn Losey
Aug. 16, 1960 – Dec. 26, 2011
FARMINGTON – Teresa Lynn Losey, 51, of Farmington died at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, in Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1960, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Larry and Sharon (Johnson) Losey.
Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home, Farmington.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Evangelist John Robertson and Elder Dave Drummond officiating.
The family will meet with friends from 12:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington.
A memorial has been established for the Diabetes Foundation.
Naomi "Pat" Fogle, 101, Keokuk
Naomi “Pat” Geraldine Fogle, 101, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.
Naomi Geraldine Redinger was born on Dec. 3, 1915, in St. Joseph, Mo., to George and Sadie Redinger. Her mother remarried when Naomi was 3 years old and she was blessed by a wonderful stepfather, John Prior, who enriched her life.
Naomi “Pat” was united in marriage to Carl V. Keller, and from this union a daughter, Carla, was born. Carl preceded her in death. Later in life, Pat married
Andrew (Roy) Fogle. They were blessed with 12 wonderful years together. They enjoyed winters in Florida with close friends.
Pat worked for 29 years as dietary supervisor at Graham Hospital and spent many hours of volunteer time for the hospital making chicken pies to sell at the Graham Guild Tea. She also was very active in the Civil War reenactment tea, taking over as chairman for many years.
Daily long walks were part of her routine until the age of 95 years. She and Roy, Jean or Sharon would be seen often walking, talking, and enjoying God’s beautiful gift of nature.
She was very proud of all her grandchildren, and they loved her dearly as she was a warm, loving and wonderful grandma. She was known as “Grammie” by them and numerous others.
Pat is survived by a daughter, Carla Albright of Keokuk and her husband Dale; three grandchildren, Christopher (Kassie) Wollbrink of Monmouth, Ill., Kelly (Jan) Winkler of Keokuk, and Curt (Shawna) Wollbrink of Rochester, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Carl and Roy; and a great-grandson Corey Gibson.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Keokuk, with Pastor David Turner officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., directly before the service, at the church. Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or St. Jude.

Lottie I. Clark, 73, of Keokuk, passed away on April 19, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy, Ill.

John ‘Jack’ Strate Huiskamp
April 30, 1939 –– Aug. 10, 2010
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. –– John “Jack” Strate Huiskamp, 71, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, with his daughters at his side.
He was born on April 30, 1939, in Iowa, the son of Nadine and William Logan Huiskamp.
He was a graduate of Keokuk High School.
Jack attended Princeton University (1961) where he captained the golf team. He earned his law degree from Duke University and practiced primarily in San Diego where he was a well-respected trial lawyer.
An avid golfer, Jack retired to Scottsdale in 1999.
Surpassing even the pleasure he had on the golf course was the time spent with his family: daughters, Diane (Phil) Lefebvre and Jennifer (Neil) Sivertson and grandchildren, Andrew, Brigitte, Claire, Charlie, Ryan and Magnus.
Additional survivors include: his mother, Nadine; brother, Robert (Patti); and sister, Kathy Hays (Mike); eight nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Paul Huiskamp; his father, W. Logan Huiskamp; and a sister, Joanne Purdy Lee.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 14, in Arizona.
Messinger Mortuary, Scottsdale, was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Silio, 78, Mesa, Ariz.
MESA, Ariz. – Betty I. Silio passed away on April 20, 2017, after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Keokuk, to Walter and Fern Meister.
She married
Ralph G. Silio on July 4, 1962. Betty and Ralph lived in Romeoville, Ill., for 40 years before moving to Mesa, Ariz., to retire.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Silio; and children, Tracey Petersen, Albert Silio, Jeff Silio and Chris Silio.
