Don Dean Anderson, 64, 3165 28th Ave Marion died Monday, March 3, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the Chapel of Memories on Friday from 10 AM to the time of service. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Johnson of Resurrection Lutheran Church will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Judy are two sons, Dave Fiala Melissa of Des Moines and Chad Anderson fiancé Brandi Dlouhy of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Marci Anderson Tucker Tracy of North Liberty, Nicole Fiala of Marion and Tonya Johnston Tom of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Wanda Anderson of Brawley, CA and Rebecca Cabbell of Seattle, WA; 10 grandchildren, Cory, Kevin, Olivia, Brea, Brenna, Jay, Cade, Kale, Macy and Alexis; numerous nieces and nephews; and two beloved pets, Chardonnay and Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Matthew Fiala; his brother-in-law, Arnold "Sarge" Anderson; and two sisters, Jean Shafranek and Sonja Davis.
Don was born March 12, 1943 in Humbolt, Iowa the son of Donald and Arlene O'Donnell Anderson. He married
Karen Diane Hilbert on June 19, 1965. They later divorced. He married
Judy Anne Fiala on March 20, 1993 in Cedar Rapids. Don attended the Devry Institute in Chicago in 1967. In 1968 he began his career with AT & T, later working for Northwestern Bell. He began his own business in 1986 before retiring from Rockwell Collins in 2005. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Don was a member of the Marion American Legion Post #298 and attended Resurrection Lutheran Church in Marion. Don was an avid storyteller with a never ending thirst for knowledge. He will be greatly missed.

Keith Beer

Keith Beer, 95, of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, died peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2009. Private family services are pending with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his son, Dean (Gale) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Bonnie (Don) Seyranian of Mill Valley, CA; two brothers Stanley Beer of Keosauqua, and Craig (Janet) Beer of Ames; sister Beryl (Hollis) Loeffler of Keosauqua; six grandchildren, Mike (Karen) Beer, Amy (Brett) Cassabaum, Jenny Seyranian, Andy (Tiffany) Beer, Greg (Jeanette) Seyranian, Melissa (Brad) Dennis; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Kathryn, who died on December 4th, 2008 and his parents, Willis and Pearl Beer.
Keith was born on April 19, 1914, in Keosauqua to Willis and Pearl (Rankin) Beer. He married
Kathryn Syfert on March 9, 1935 in Keosauqua. They lived in Keosauqua until 1950, when they moved to Perry. In 1956 they moved to Strawberry Point, where they lived until he retired from the Iowa Department of Agriculture. In 1990 Keith and Kathryn moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to his son and his family. Keith was always a hard worker, and enjoyed gardening and working with his hands. He was a member of Cedar Rapids St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, the Keosauqua Masonic Lodge No. 10, and enjoyed his volunteer time at Mercy Hospital, where he accumulated more than 1,000 hours.

Patten J. Atwood

Patten J. Atwood, 78, of 1022 Regent Street NE, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no services. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; 3 daughters, Jeanette Jack Marrion of St. Louis, MO, Karen Bob Boland of Lawrence, KS, and Gail Mike Schmitz of Cedar Rapids; 2 sons, Jay Eva Atwood of Waterloo, and Bret Atwood of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Jerry Margaret Atwood of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Patten was born March 16, 1929 in Armstrong to Lester and Ilo Atwood. He worked for Swiss Valley Farms for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. He liked to work on his computer. Patten was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 41 years Marjorie are two sons, Randy Sue Andresen of Omaha, NE and Steve Andresen of Scottsdale, AZ; and two grandchildren, Kelli Bensalah Andy and Seth Andresen.
He is also survived by his very "special" nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Calvin and Marlyn Wayne; and his infant grandson, Heath.
Ervin was born July 16, 1934 in Elberon the son of Harry and Clara Homire Andresen. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Stone on December 17, 1966 in Belle Plaine. Ervin was a graduate of Keystone High School and served in the Naval Reserves in 1953. He was owner and operator of Andresen Trucking, and he also farmed. In 1965 he worked for Linkbelt-FMC in the shipping department until 1986. In 1988 until 1991 he worked at Rockwell Goss. In September of 1990 he quit farming. He worked for Cedar Rapids, Inc. from 1993 to 2000 and then worked part-time for the Johnson Ave. HyVee from 2002 to 2007.
He was a 40+ year member of the Keystone Turners and he enjoyed his many friends.

Adeline M. Andrew Opfer, 93, a resident of Village Ridge in Marion, died there Monday, September 3, 2007, following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Vicki Standley of the First United Methodist Church in Marion will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Friday.
Survivors include two daughters Lois Novak and husband Eugene of Marion, and Jaqueline Bohan and husband Thomas of El Cajon, California, a sister Alma Balderston of Marion, a brother Malvin Machacek and wife Bonnie of Winthrop, six grandchildren, Bradley Novak and wife Debora, Alicia Novak, Robina Ulrich and husband Thomas, Timothy Bohan, Christopher Novak and wife Julie, and Matthew Bohan and wife Ellen, eight great-grandchildren, Andrew and Brian Novak, Brent and Alex Ulrich, Victoria, Katherine, and Jackson Novak, and Michael Beauparlant. She is also survived by the sons of Raymond Opfer, Ron and Roger and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband C. Malcolm Andrew, her 2nd husband Raymond Opfer, and seven brothers and sisters.
Adeline was born April 30, 1914 in rural Alburnett, Iowa, to Vaclav and Pauline Novak Machacek. She was a bookkeeper at the Alburnett Farmers Elevator Company, and had also worked in the office for Collins Radio.
She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Adeline's family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff at Village Ridge, St. Luke's Hospice, and St. Luke's Home Health Care for their tender care of Adeline.

Inez Mary Atherton, 100, of Ironwood, Michigan, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Alburnett, Iowa died Sunday, September 2, 2007, in Westgate Nursing Center, Ironwood, Michigan following a lengthy illness. Graveside Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Services will be conducted by Rev. H. Burr Bryant of the Alburnett United Methodist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her sons Paul Susan Atherton, Marion, Iowa; James Atherton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister Edna Koenig, Audubon, Iowa; grandchildren Diane Roger Manglani, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Cynthia Donald Fortmann, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Douglas Atherton, El Cajon California, David Laura Atherton, Alburnett, Iowa, Timothy Elizabeth Atherton, Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Carrie Atherton, Lutz, Florida; 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister Lydia Williamson; four brothers William Tessman, Arch Tessman, Clarence Tessman, Clark Tessman; one daughter-in-law Barbara Butterfield Atherton.
Inez was born May 4, 1907 to Fredrick and Mary Schrader Tessman in Ross, Iowa. She was raised on a large grain and livestock farm. She attended High School in Audubon, Iowa.
Inez married
Ralph Atherton on August 19, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in Ironwood, Michigan. They were members of the Alburnett United Methodist Church.
During World War II, Inez took a job with Rockwell Collins. One of the highlights of her life was working with the engineers in research and development as an electronics technician on the "Man to the Moon Mission." She retired after 25 years of service.
Throughout her life she was a perfectionist and active in sewing, knitting, crocheting, leatherwork, ceramics, gardening, growing flowers, canning, candy making, cooking, cub scouts, fishing, antique collecting, and time at their Lake Delhi cabin.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years, Dorane are a son, Donald Alatalo Connie of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Cathy Welton Joey of Robins; six grandchildren, David, Richard, William, Brian, Brad and Leslie; and nine great grandchildren, Rich, Tom, John, Mark, Crystal, Cassondra, Dylan, Hudson and Greyson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard, two brothers, and three sisters.
Raymond was born June 30, 1920 in Frederick, South Dakota to John and Mamie Alatalo. He married
Dorane Durkee on February 9, 1940 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Raymond farmed in Frederick, South Dakota until 1952 prior to working at Penick and Ford. He retired from Penick and Ford in 1978.

Susan L. Adam

Susan L. Church Buchanan Adam, 61, 403 East 8th St, Vinton passed away Sunday, March 31, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter.
Susan was born November 2, 1946 in Marshalltown the daughter of Boyd and Rose Swearingen Church. She married
Stephen M. Adam on January 28, 1999 in Cedar Rapids. Susan was vice-president and general manager in her long time career in radio.
Survivors are her husband Steve; three daughters, Wendy Buchanan of Plaquemine, LA, Brittany and Stephanie Adam both of Vinton; a son, Toby Buchanan of Dubuque; her parents, Boyd and Rose Church of Marshalltown; two grandchildren, Emerson Buchanan and Andrew Goedken; her beloved aunt, Helen Philipp; and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Church.
Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where friends may call from 11 AM until time of the service. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate.
