Charles L. Batey, of Cedar Rapids, died at Ridgeview Care Center, Des Moines, Wednesday, December 02, 2009. A visitation will be held Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Vanessa (John) May of Des Moines and Christine (Greg) Moser of Center Point; four grandchildren, Stephanie Moser, Nicholas (Jessica) Moser, Laura (John) Crouthamel, and Jonathan May; and two great grandchildren, Autumn and Genevieve Moser.
Charles was born August 5, 1932 in Dubuque to Leo and Geneva Batey. He was married
to Betty Fugate. She died in 1996. He worked in the bakery department at Hy Vee. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed spending time with friends at the Time-Out.

Betty J. Curttright, 81, of 514 9th Street NW, died Saturday, December 22, 2001, in West Ridge Care Center following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Matthew Noffke of the First Congregational Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include three daughters Nancy Houser and husband Terry of Cedar Rapids, Judy Schoff and husband Douglas of Mt. Vernon, and Karen Pence and husband Rocky of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Fosnacht, and a great-granddaughter Hailey.
Betty was born January 21, 1920 in Cedar Rapids to George and Lillian Weithalter Fosnacht. She married
Floyd D. Curttright on March 28, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died March 30, 1972. Betty worked in the payroll department at Armstrong's Department Store from 1959 to 1986. She was a member of New Encounters and Garfield Girls. She loved cats, traveling, and dining out.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Jennifer Lee Anspach, 22, of Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died April 10, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Hillside Wesleyan Church. Rev. Kory Kleinsasser will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her parents Larry Anspach and wife Sylvia of Cedar Rapids; stepmother Jean McDonough of Cedar Rapids; brothers Christopher Anspach of Ames and Jacob Anspach of Cedar Rapids; step brothers Thomas and Daniel Canfield both of Cedar Rapids; grandparents Melvin and Ottis Koehler of Marion, Ohio; her aunt Deborah Koehler-Kantro of Lincoln, Massachusetts, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Marsha Anspach, an aunt Jane Collins, grandparents James and Helen Anspach., and Ruth Ann and LaDon Mcdonough.
Jennifer Lee Anspach was born October 8, 1985 in Pusan, South Korea and was, adopted by Larry and Marsha Koehler Anspach. She was a 2004 graduate of Linn Mar High School. She chose to further her education by attending the University of North Carolina for one year, then transferring to Drake University where she was currently pursuing an education degree. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta- Beta Kappa Chapter at Drake. She greatly enjoyed the activities and friendships she had through her sorority involvement. She was employed at Traditions Child Care Center in Clive, and was previously employed at the Loving Care Learning Center in Cedar Rapids. One of her greatest enjoyments was being with young children, and helping them achieve in the first steps of education. She loved dogs, especially her family dogs, Buddy, Banjo, and Maggie. She enjoyed school, vacations, hanging out with friends, watching movies, and popcorn. Above all Jennifer's greatest enjoyment was her time spent with her family whom she dearly loved.
She will forever be remembered, and deeply missed by many.
Memorial Donations will in Jennifer's honor may be made to: Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation where they will be used for the sorority's Friendship Fund.

Emma Elizabeth Allen, 89, a resident of Methwick Community died Saturday April 26, 2008 in the Methwick Woodlands following an extended illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where visitiation begins at 9:00 a.m. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Cedar Memorial Grant Wood Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Emma was born in Cedar Rapids on February 23, 1919, the daughter of Luella Juhl and Raymond Clark Allen.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and a brother James.
Survivors include her sister Mrs Ruth Nielson, a niece, Kathy David Taylor, a nephew, John Dorie Nielson, Eight great nephews, and six great great nieces and six great great nephews.
Emma graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor and masters degree in instrumental and vocal music. She taught for 44 years, most of those in the Waterloo and then in Cedar Rapids. She was a life long member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids Malta Chapter of the Eastern Star, Gethsemme Shrine, and the Retired Teachers Association of Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend a thanks to Methwick Community, especially the staff at Arbor Place and the Woodlands, Dr. Richard Pope and the staff from Essence of Life Hospice for their loving friendship and compassionate care for Emma.
A memorial fund has been established for the Methwick Community.

Elizabeth Ann Betty Roth Adams, 93, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness.
After a private memorial service at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, members of her family will greet friends at a reception from 1 to 3 pm Tuesday, May 13, in Oak Hall at Cottage Grove Place.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Sharon Adams Threlkeld of Alameda, CA and Sedona, AZ; granddaughters Susan Paulukonis of Alameda, CA and Julie Threlkeld of Yonkers, NY; great grandchildren Annie and Joe Paulukonis of Alameda, CA; a niece, Patti Huey, of Cedar Rapids and a nephew, John Reid, of Deerfield, IL. Her husband, Henry James Hank Adams, and son, Henry James, Jr. Jim preceded her in death in 1961.
Her sister, Rosemary Reid, with whom she was very close, passed away in 2007.
Betty was born on August 20, 1914 to Walter Kerr Roth and Elizabeth Nicoll Roth in Cedar Rapids, where she grew up. She attended Washington High School and continued her education at Ward-Belmont College, Northwestern University, and graduated from Parsons in New York City. Betty and Hank were married
May 14, 1938 at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
From an early age, Betty exhibited a passion and talent for the visual arts. She studied painting for many years and developed into an accomplished painter, specializing in watercolors and collages.
Subjects included colorful floral still lifes, impressionistic landscapes and occasional abstract pieces. Later in life, she branched out into other creative media, expressing herself in quilting, clay work, woodcarving and many other crafts. In addition, Betty was eager to share her artistic knowledge and skills with others, and she taught several art workshops to other residents of Cottage Grove Place, where she made her home since 1996.
Betty's interest in seeing beautiful new vistas also expressed itself in her love of travel. Betty's travels abroad took her to England, Scotland, Italy, and many areas of Southeast Asia, including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Bali and Vietnam.
Family, friends and new acquaintances alike appreciated Betty for her keen sense of humor and, perhaps most importantly, her ability to laugh at life and at herself. Practical and independent, she was a self-possessed and self-sufficient woman throughout her years, even through her final days. She lived a life of dignity and grace, and will be fondly remembered for her loyalty to family and friends, intelligence, curiosity, thoughtfulness, sense of adventure, fortitude and resilience. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and caregivers of Mercy Medical Center and Cottage Grove Place for the excellent care they gave Betty during her illness and especially want to thank the caregivers at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the tender and compassionate care they gave Betty and her family during her last days.

Glen D. Armstrong, 97 of Eagle Point, Oregon formerly of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday May 20, 2008 at his home after a long illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friend say call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Grace and her children, his daughter, Susie of New Mexico and four sons, Robert Elsie, Wayne Donna and James Jan all of Cedar Rapids and Cecile Toni of Washington State. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many many friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Edna Barnett and Barbara Brown, three sisters and six brothers.
Glen was born on Sept. 26, 1910 in Cheyenne County, Colorado, the son of Elwin and Amy Thompson Armstrong. He married
Dorothy B. Campbell of April 19, 1930 in Hedrick, Iowa. She died in 1979. He then married
Grace Holman in 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Glenn was a machinist at Wilson and Company and retired from there in 1977after 41 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, wood working and especially time spent with his family and friends. A memorial fund has been established in Glen's name.

Albaugh, 72, of Cedar Rapids and most recently a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Ronald Connerly of New Beginnings Church will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years Ada; three sons, Gary Donna of Cedar Rapids, Gregory Kristi of Sigourney and Bradley Tammy of Marion; nine grandchildren, Troy, Keri, Bryan, Tori, Taylor, Brady, Brent Brianna, Dustin and Tara; and two brothers, Ronald of Mechanicsville and Wallace Trudy of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Arthur and Dorothy Albaugh; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Albaugh and Brenda Albaugh.
Keith was born May 8, 1936 in Mechanicsville the son of Arthur H. and Dorothy E. Graft Albaugh. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1954. He married
Ada M. Osborne on November 18, 1955 in Cedar Rapids. Keith was employed by Rockwell Collins as a lab technician, retiring in 1991 after 37 years of service. He was a member of New Beginnings Church and had a strong Christian faith. He was a 35 year member of the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge #251. Keith enjoyed sports, vacationing and spending quality time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Keith's family would like to thank the staff at Willow Gardens Care Center for the passionate care they gave to Keith, Mercy Medical Center for his excellent care over the last several years and St. Luke's Hospice and Mercy Hospice House for their special care in Keith's final days.

Yvonne E. Arnold, 73, 332 Carter St. NW went to the Lord after a long courageous battle with cancer with her family at her side on Monday, August 18, 2008 at her home. Services: 1:00 P.M. Toby Arnold on January 29, 1954 in Cedar Rapids. Yvonne worked at Rockwell Collins and for Klein Tools. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Hawkeye Touring Motorcycle Club. She was a loving, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law and friend. She was generous with her love and kind to everyone she touched. She gave generously to charity. She loved animals, especially her dogs and gave generously to many animal charities as well. Yvonne was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. At the very end she still had her sense of humor, and was worried more about everyone she was leaving behind than fearful for herself. Yvonne loved her many years of traveling across country by motorcycle with Toby and friends from Hawkeye Touring Motorcycle Club. The family would like to send out special thanks to our Hospice friends: Kevin Kramer, Cindy Staton, Kim Vogul and Amanda Drey who made such a difference in all our lives. They brought kindness, laughter and love to our home at the most difficult of times. Yvonne loved each of them in a very special way. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
