Nita Belle Anderson, 61, of 1129 10th St SE, died in her home on Friday July 24, 2009. Memorial Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Rhodes of Des Moines, Joseph Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Dustin Rhodes of Des Moines, and Shane Rhodes of Mt. Pleasant, and a brother, Daniel Hurd of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Malissa Anderson, a sister, Winette and her parents, Roland and Winifred Hurd.
Nita was born August 17, 1947 in Creston, Iowa the daughter of Roland and Winifred Gruninger Hurd. She enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. Her favorite was spending time with her family and friends. Nita was the type of person you would meet and would always remember her.
A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.

John Ashmore, 91, of Silver Pines, died there Friday, August 14, 2009. Memorial Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Wm. Harnish. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
John is survived by a son, John; and grandson, Dustin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn; brothers; and sisters.
John was born September 20, 1917 in Oakland, IL to Earl and Muriel Ashmore. He married
Kathryn Klingbeil on August 26, 1950 in Postville. She died in 1989. John was an Army veteran of WWII, receiving both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post in Alton, IL, the Masons, and a proud member of the UAW Local #1024. He worked at Cherry –Burrell for over 32 years, retiring in 1982. John loved woodworking and will be remembered for his love of his neighborhood children.

Marlys A. Ard, 77, of 751 Paralta Rd, Springville, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be held at 11 am Thursday in St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. T. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a prayer service beginning at 8 PM.
Survivors include her husband Dean, two sons Terry (Becky) of Mt. Vernon, and David of Cedar Rapids, her siblings, Gladys (Eugene) Wagner of Fisher, Minnesota, Laurain Jurchen of Crookston, Minnesota, Irene (Terry) Schneider of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Erwin (Marcie) Jurchen of Seward, Nebraska, Esther Jurchen of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Arnold (Tamra) Jurchen of Beaver Creek, Nebraska, and five grandchildren, Joe, Sonya, Andrea, Dennis, and Bailee. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marlys was born July 8, 1932, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Willie and Alicia Hoppe Jurchen. She married
Dean E. Ard on September 4, 1954 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was employed by AT & T as an operator and in the business office. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, and the Telephone Pioneers.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Margaret C. Anton

Margaret C. Anton, 75, of Marion died there on Sunday September 13, 2009 after a sudden illness. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Duane, three sons, Alex (Pegi), Andy (Karla) and Alan all of Cedar Rapids, and a brother, Carl (Donna) Yant of Evansdale. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Logan, Marissa, Katharine and Christian, and two sisters- in-law, Hazel Anton of North Platte, NE. and Charlotte Anton of LaPorte City. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Yant, a sister, Carol Yant and a daughter-in-law, Mary Breitbach Anton.
Margaret was born on September 22, 1933 in Numa, the daughter of William and Margaret Ghibaudo Yant. She married
Duane R. Anton on September 1, 1956 in Waterloo. Margaret was a court reporter for the 6th judicial district and retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. She enjoyed playing bridge, supporting the Hawkeyes, playing golf and especially time spent her many friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to Camp Courageous or the Shriner's Crippled Children’s Hospital in Margaret’s name.

Dorothy Irene Anderson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha following a long illness. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M on Friday October 2 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Gary Hoyt and Reverend Leroy Collins will be presiding over the service. A reception will be held after the service at the Cedar Memorial Family Center.
Dorothy Anderson was born April 23, 1921, in Marion, IA to Oliver and Clara Tilton. Dorothy was united in marriage to Paul Anderson on April 23, 1941 in Marion, IA.
Dorothy especially loved her grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed animals especially dogs. She also loved flowers, bird watching, reading books, cooking, family vacations, playing cards, and bingo. Dorothy also enjoyed being a member of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Paul Anderson, of Cedar Rapids, Daughter Susan (Kerry) Hansen, of Cedar Rapids, Daughter Judy (Bruce) Norden, of Bettendorf, Sister Fern Struchen, of Marion, Brother Devere Fehr, of San Diego CA, and four grandchildren Alissa, Tara, Austin, and Erin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and by three newborn children.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend many thanks to all doctors, nurses, friends, family, and the members of St. Mark’s Methodist Church who gave her support and showed her kindness throughout her illness.

Dorane L. Alatalo, 88, of Evergreen Estates died there on Friday Nov. 6, 2009 after a short illness. Graveside services at 1:00 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include a son, Donald (Connie) of Cedar Rapids and a daughter, Cathy (Joey) Welton of Robins. She is also survived by six grandchildren, David, Richard, William, Brian, Brad and Leslie and nine great grandchildren, Rich, Tom, John, Mark, Crystal, Cassondra, Dylan, Hudson and Greyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Richard and two sisters, Cleo and Lois.
Dorane was born on March 13, 1921 in Frederick, South Dakota, the daughter of Glenn and Armeline Tatro Durkee. She married
Raymond J. Alatalo on February 9, 1940 in Frederick, South Dakota. He died in 2007. Dorane worked at Mercy Hospital and later at Collins Radio for several years. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking and especially time spent with her friends and beloved family.
Memorial donation may be given to Mercy Hospice in Dorane’s name.

Survivors include his wife Donna, six children, Kristy and Al Verbish of Mooreville, Indiana, Michael (Heather), Paul (Amy), and Melissa all of Cedar Rapids, and Beth and Tony of Walford, Brother Rod (Susan) New Sharon, Iowa, two nephews Matthew and Brian, six grandchildren: Katie, Donald, Erin, Victoria, Riley, and Ana. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Barbara Anderson of New Sharon, Iowa.
David was born June 15, 1949 in New Sharon, Iowa. He married
Donna Fannon on November 13, 1971 in Marengo, Iowa. He retired from American Airlines in 2004 after 36 years of service. His next venture was to open Super Dave’s Bar and Grill in Walford in 2006.

William J. Armstrong, 91, of 100 Thompson Dr. SE, died at home surrounded by his family, Sunday, December 6, 2009, following a long illness. Memorial services will be at 3 PM Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Private inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Saturday at the Church. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Mima “Mickey”, daughter Barbara (Steven) Melsha of Cedar Rapids, two sons William (Diane) Armstrong of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, and Steven (Ruth) Armstrong of Cedar Rapids, step daughter Susan (Simon) Geletta of West Des Moines, Iowa, two step sons Michael Brunson of Chicago, and Joseph (Margit) Brunson of Neu Ulm, Germany, a sister Miriam (Herald) Smith of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joanne in 1967, a sister Helen Fox, and step son Randy Brunson.
William was born January 18, 1918 in Farley, Iowa, to Charles and Myrtle Cropp Armstrong. He was a graduate of Coe College with degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry. He married
Joanne Van Cleve who died in 1967. He married
Mima “Mickey” Brunson on May 19, 1973 in Cedar Rapids. He had an extensive career as an electrical engineer in research and design. He served with the US Army Air Corps during WW II and was presented with the Legion of Merit award. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the William J. Armstrong memorial fund at First Presbyterian Church, or to the Joanne M. Armstrong Scholarship fund at Coe College.
