Edna Abodeely, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center passed away there Friday January 8th 2010. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Orthodox Church by Father Fred Shaheen and her grandson Rev. Dn. Edmund Abodeely II. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Church where a Trisagon service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: St George Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Edna was born in Ain Arab, Lebanon on June 12, 1912. She was 97 years old. She was born to Joseph and Salimi Skaff Koury. She married
Frank Abodeely on November 20, 1932. From that union came Edmund Abodeely and Adele Abodeely Graber were born.
She is survived by a son, Edmund (Carol) Abodeely, a daughter, Adele (Jack) Graber, grandchildren, Edmund (Kari) Abodeely II, Jackie (Ted) Fahey, Heather (Kevin) Kenney, Stephanie (James) Lock, Robert (Wendy) Graber, Bill (Kristina) Graber and Katherine Graber, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Paul Dee Armstrong

Paul D. Armstrong, 55, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Friends may join in a celebration of his life at Horseshoe Falls Lodge at Pinicon Ridge from 1 to 5 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2010. A Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Paul was born April 9, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, IA. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marines during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He married
Cynthia Chamberlain in 1978 and became a carpenter by trade and a devoted stay at home dad and husband. Paul had a distinguished taste and enjoyment of movies and music, loved the outdoors and was an avid sports and Brett Favre fan. He was very dedicated to his family and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Nichole (Zachary) Martin of Cedar Rapids; Sean Armstrong of Lisbon; Troy and Rachel Armstrong both of Mt. Vernon; mother, Donna Smith; sister, Pam (Tom) Johnston of Solon; grandchildren, Anthony, Adrian, and Mariah and many nieces and nephews.
Paul is preceded in death by his stepfather, Chet Smith.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at Alliant Credit Union Cedar Rapids to dedicate a tree and bench in his memory.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Emergency Crews, St. Luke’s ICU Nurses and Physicians, and all of our friends.

Anna Olive (Berge) Anderson, 83, of Cedar Rapids died suddenly Sunday morning, January 31, 2010, surrounded by family at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3634 1st Ave NE. Interment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Anna was born December 21, 1926, in Morris, Illinois to Osmund and Helene (Dorheim) Berge who immigrated from Norway. She graduated from Morris High School in 1944. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. On March 2, 1946, she married
William G. Anderson and accompanied him to Rhode Island where he was assigned to the Newport Naval Station.
Anna cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. While her children were young she served as a volunteer in many capacities, including Cub Scout Den Mother, Camp Fire Leader, elementary school room mother and “Picture Lady”. Later she volunteered as a tutor with the Kirkwood Community College Laubach Literacy program. Anna was also employed by Armstrong’s Department Store for fifteen years. She enjoyed her coworkers and the interactions with customers.
Anna was a charter member of Sons of Norway, Restauration Lodge. She also belonged to Foursquare Club and King’s Daughters. Anna was a charter member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and a long time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was active in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA), particularly the Eunice Circle.
Ann was a lovely person who always thought of others first. She had a clever sense of humor and was quite animated when telling stories, especially pertaining to her family, friends, and her Norwegian heritage. As a child she began her visits to family in Norway and learned to value her Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed baking kringle and krumkake for family and friends, and having a decorative Norwegian influence in her home.
Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of nearly 64 years William G. Anderson, a son William H. Anderson of Cedar Rapids, four daughters, Rebecca (Thomas C.) Beusch of Kildeer, Illinois, Jeanne (Thomas G.) Hoyt of Overland Park, Kansas, Lisa (Richard J.) Twedt and Lori (Tom E.) Hampton both of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are two sisters, Selma (Robert) Anderson of Moorhead, Minnesota, and Marien (Pete) Thompson of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Gail Sue Anderson, and a son James Eric Anderson.
Anna’s compassion and enthusiasm will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

David B. Austell, 81, of Marion, Iowa died Monday, May 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Martha Rogers officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Marion American Legion Post #298. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 am at the chapel on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Florence of Marion; Brother, James (Violet) Austell of Nashville, TN; Sister, Charlotte (Doug) Weddington of Murfeesboro, TN; Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
David Buford Austell was born October 15, 1928 in Tullahoma, TN the son of David & Alta (Spears) Austell. He served in the Army Air Force. On December 22, 1967, he married
Florence Swick in Cedar Rapids, IA. David was an engineer for many years and had worked at Rockwell Collins. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

John G. Adney, 72, of 2225 Northview Dr in Marion died Wednesday May 19, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital after a long illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 5th, at Grace Episcopal Church. Inurnment at Grace Episcopal columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, three sons, Matthew of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Christopher of Chicago, Illinois and Charles ( Dawn) of Cedar Rapids, two daughters, Marla Adney of Omaha, Nebraska and Elizabeth Benn of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and one brother, Robert of Clinton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Portia (Daniel), Jacob, Madeliene, Connor, Danielle, Charles, Toben, Greenlee, one great grandchild, Aston and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born on December 11, 1937 in Clinton, the son of John and Edith Gohlmann Adney. He married
Patricia L. Waters on August 3, 1957 in Sterling, Illinois. John owned and operated the North Iowa Times in McGregor and the Four Rivers Senior Journal in Cedar Rapids. His capacity in both papers was editor, reporter and publisher. John was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he had been a deacon for 10 years as well as being a published writer. He enjoyed gardening, photography, playing the organ and piano and especially spending time with his beloved family. A memorial fund has been established in John’s name.
Walter J. Astor

Walter J. Astor, 80, of Marion, died May 26, 2010 following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Noelridge Park Church. Pastor Richard Marsceau and Pastor Sam Dronebarger will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons Kurt H. Astor and wife Glenda of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brad C. Astor and wife Rhonda Vosdingh of Rockville, MD; grandchildren Derek, Justin, Alicia, Andrew, Jonathon, Jason, Luke, and Bethany; one great grandson Caleb; three brothers William Astor of Greene, IA, Gary Astor of Fort Dodge, IA, and James Astor of Cedar Rapids, IA; and two sisters Eleanor Rice of Toppenish, WA, and Maxine Bright of Cedar Falls, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fairlene, his parents, four sisters Ellen Longnecker, Mary Lawson, Dorothy Fliehler, and infant sister Irene Astor, and a brother Marvin Astor.
Walter was born April 25, 1930 in Arlington, Iowa the son of Raymond and Anna (Theesfelt) Astor. He was united in marriage to Fairlene J. Cook on December 21, 1952 in Arlington, Iowa. Fairlene preceded Walter in death on October 23, 2008. Walter was a United States Air Force veteran. He was employed with Fiserv of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Noelridge Park Church, Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed spending time with his family and at his cabin outside of Arlington, IA. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

William DeVere Achey Jr.

William DeVere Achey Jr., 65, of Hiawatha died June 1, 2010 of complications of a stroke with his loved by his side at St. Lukes Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at 10 A.M. Tuesday June 8 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bill was born August 4, 1944 to William Sr. and Virginia (Orr) Achey. He is survived by three sons; William Achey of St. Paul, MN, Curtis (Sherry) Achey of Shellsburg, Michael (Millie) Achey of Cedar Rapids, Six daughters; Brenda Achey of Cedar Rapids, Holly Achey of Hiawatha, Wendy Rogers of Cedar Rapids, Kaitlyn (Lee) Eschen of Manchester, Leslie Thurow of IL, and Kerri Neil of Cedar Rapids and three sisters Kathie, Patty, and Jolene. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren.
Bill owned and operated the Better Way Express delivery service. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family and his many business associates.

Lora Lea Armstrong

Lora Lea Armstrong went to join the Angels of heaven on June 12, 2010. A celebration of life gathering will be at Cedar Hills Community Church on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 4 to 7 PM.
Memorial services will be at 3 PM Friday, June 25, 2010, in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Dr. Leonard Ranson of Cedar Hills Community Church officiating. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Surviving to honor her memory are her mother Helen Armstrong of Kansas City, Missouri, two sisters Linda Copeland of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lou Ann Yacoub of Cedar Rapids, three nephews Gary (Beth) Copeland of Greenwood, Missouri, Scott Copeland, and Patrick Copeland both of Kansas City, Missouri, and her furry companion dog Madison. She was preceded in death by her father Gerald Armstrong
Lora was born April 22, 1957 in Kansas City to Gerald and Helen Michael Armstrong. She was employed at the Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City for 28 years. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 2005. She loved movies, Indian history, photography and painting. She was an avid astronomer and belonged to A.S.K.C.
