Greg J. Menke, 50, of Houghton, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison.
Born July 27, 1960, at Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Robert “Peanie” and Martha Merschman Menke. On June 22, 1984, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, he married
Deb Fullenkamp.
Survivors include his wife Deb Menke of Houghton, Iowa, two sons Andy & Ben, one brother Mike Menke of Pilot Grove, Iowa, his mother-&-father-in-law Ray & Becky Fullenkamp of West Point, Iowa, one sister-in-law Karin (Scott) Steffensmeier, nieces & nephew Courtney, Jordan, & Abby, and numerous aunts, uncles, & cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jeff.
Greg was a member of St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, and a member of the Houghton Knights of Columbus. He served on the Houghton Fire Department. He was the owner & operator of the Houghton Market & Deli. He was a 1979 graduate of Marquette High School. Greg was serving his third term as mayor of Houghton. He enjoyed boating, golfing, family, and operating his store.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul where the family will meet with friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul with Father Gary Beckman as Celebrant.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in St. Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Houghton Fire Department or Lee County Hospice.

JoAnn Marie Schock
BORN: September 3, 1925
DIED: April 19, 2011

JoAnn E. Schock passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
JoAnn was born in Clemons, IA September 3, 1925. She attended high school in Sterling, Ill, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Illinois University.
She was teaching first grade in Des Moines, Iowa when she met John, her husband of 57 years. JoAnn moved often due to John's work while raising three children,
then spent past 26 years in Thousand Oaks, California.
JoAnn was active in her church at Thousand Oaks. She enjoyed playing golf and creatively decorating her home with items she collected over the years. Christmas was always a favorite time with JoAnn as she enjoyed decorating every room of her house and hosting many Christmas parties at her home.
JoAnn is survived by her husband John; her three married
children; John Schock Jr. (wife Karen), Ann White (husband Rex) and James Schock (wife Karen); Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday April 25, at the United Methodist Church at Thousand Oaks, California.
Graveside committal services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Primrose Cemetery in Primrose with Pastor Mike Bennett officiating.

Maynard Emil Herdrich

LOCATION: Donnellson, Iowa
Maynard Emil Herdrich, 87, of Donnellson died May 18, 2011 at Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson. He was born June 21, 1923 on a farm near Franklin. He was the son of Emil and Bessie Butroff Herdrich.
He attended Franklin School through eighth grade. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Franklin. He was a farmer, livestock handler, trucker, horseman, jockey, horse trainer, musician and singer. He had been known to sing his horse to the finish line.
He married
Eileen Harnagel in 1942. They later divorced.
He enjoyed fishing, telling stories, coyote hunting, gardening, his coyote hunting friends, hunting mushrooms, and spending time with his special buddy, Kiara.
He is survived by his son, Floyd Herdrich of Richmond Virginia, three granddaughters, Storm (Sarah) Portage of Iowa City, Iowa, Jessie (Mark) Windley of Toano, Virginia, Sarah Herdrich of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Arlene Haeffner of Donnellson, Iowa, one brother, Harold (Wanda) Herdrich of Donnellson, Iowa, 2 great grandsons, Thomas and Austin Windley, and special friend, Sylvia Eckmeier. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth, and his son, John.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will meet with friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Franklin with Reverend Mike Bennett officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Franklin, Iowa.

Cheryl Therese Bloom (Frank), 51, of Cedar Rapids, beloved daughter of Michael and Marilyn Frank, passed away on December 23, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a brave battle with breast cancer.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 am Saturday, December 26, 2009 at All Saints Catholic Church with Reverend David O’Connor officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be held in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Aimee E. Goldsberry and Joel M. Goldsberry both of Cedar Rapids; Mother, Marilyn Frank of Cedar Rapids; Sisters, Teresa J. Frank of Cedar Rapids, Mary Ann Colton (Bruce) of Louisville, KY, Molly Frank-Stewart (Michael) of Oak Park, IL; Brothers, James M. Frank (Mary Hennings-Frank) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Paul L. Frank (Margaret) of Carol Stream, IL, Steven Frank (Carey) of Dallas, TX; and eleven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael F. Frank in 2001.
Cheryl Therese Frank was born September 7, 1958 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Michael and Marilyn (Ament) Frank. Cheryl graduated from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and French. She previously worked at Kirkwood Community College and in the Telecommunications Industry.
The family would like to thank Chris Becker for his support and loyal friendship to Cheryl and her children.

Cheryl Ann Bearrows (Vosika) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died Sunday, March 7, 2010.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 11, 1953 to Edward J. Vosika M.D. and Dorothy J. Vosika (Kinney), Cheryl graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa. She received undergraduate degrees from the University of Nebraska and from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.
Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Sara Bearrows of Biloxi, Mississippi and Shelby Bearrows of Cedar Rapids, sisters Karen (Ben) Cichowski of Chicago, Illinois and Christine (Pat) Hennigan of Des Moines, Iowa, four nieces, four nephews, her dog Kacee May and her two cats, Missy and Prima.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father Edward J. Vosika M.D., her mother Dorothy J. Vosika (Kinney), a brother Richard D. Vosika and a nephew Edward J. Vosika II.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home at 4200 1st Ave NE in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, March 10, and services at 3:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Joe Polzin of Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Willis Albert "Bill" Boeding

Willis Albert “Bill” Boeding, 92, of West Point, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Kensington in Fort Madison.
Born February 11, 1919, at West Point, Iowa, he was the son of Edward H. and Irene Strothman Boeding. On August 3, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, he married
Ruth E. Gang.
Survivors include his wife Ruth of West Point, two brothers Harry (Joan) Boeding of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Richard “Dick” (Vera) Boeding of West Point, Iowa, two sisters Darlene Umthun of Fort Madison, Iowa, Rose Mary (Harold) Glasgow of West Burlington, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Paul, Lambert, Charles, Archie, Melvin, and Edward in infancy.
Willis was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, and a graduate of St. Mary’s School. He retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as Chief Store Keeper. Willis enjoyed trap shooting and working in his yard.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point where the family will meet with friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant.
Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Cheryl A. Whitaker

Cheryl A. Whitaker, 66, of Keokuk, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Keokuk, Iowa.
She was born May 21, 1944, at Quincy, Illinois. On January 31, 1961, she married
Robert Lee Whitaker. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2002.
Survivors include three sons Paul (Susie) Whitaker of Argyle, Iowa, Jeff (Lola Fox) Whitaker of Argyle, Iowa, David (Robin) Whitaker of Fort Madison, Iowa, one daughter Laura Whitaker of Keokuk, Iowa, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one sister Jackie Gurney of Argyle, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband and grandparents.
Cheryl enjoyed bingo, camping, crafts, and people.
Her body has been cremated.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, Iowa, with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
