Sue Daskalos, 82, of Keokuk, passed away at 12:02 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

She married Dr. Nikitas Daskalos on Sept. 8, 1957, in Mason City. He survives in Keokuk.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Nick (Dorothy) Daskalos II of Hamilton, Ill., Chris (Alicia) Daskalos of San Diego, Calif., Diana (Mitch) Corcoran of Mount Vernon, Joe (Angela) St. Clair of Hamilton, Ill., and Tim (Caroline) St. Clair of North Aurora, Ill.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Leah Daskalos of Hamilton and her children, Chloe and Quinn; Layne Daskalos of Hamilton; Desiree Daskalos of San Diego; Jessica Corcoran (fiancé Josh Fitzpatrick) of Mount Vernon and their son, Ryken; Joe and Alyssa Corcoran of Mount Vernon; Jason Lamporte of Carthage, Ill.; Pride St. Clair of Los Angeles, Calif.; Cresten St. Clair of Chicago; Ashtyn St. Clair of North Liberty; Amir (Sara) St. Clair of Sugar Grove, Ill., and their son, Reid; Samantha (Larry) Hau of San Antonio, Texas, and their children, Philip and Thomas; Nathan (Carey) St. Clair of Villa Park, Ill., and their son, Sawyer; and Kaytlin St. Clair of North Aurora; two sisters, Tina Knosby of West Des Moines and Darlene Briggs of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Todd Daskalos.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, and received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from University of Iowa. She worked at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City and Graham Hospital in Keokuk. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Keokuk. Early on, she served as director of the Visiting Nurses Association and on the board of Keokuk Area Hospital. She enjoyed her bridge clubs, prayer group, and traveling with friends.
Nick and Sue’s strong and devoted marriage was the foundation that Sue used to pursue her strongest passions in life: faith, family and stewardship. She and her husband opened their hearts and home to many foster children, three of whom found forever families within the immediate or the extended family. Her life focus and priority became her family, ensuring they were provided for and nurtured into successful adults. Sue loved her family unconditionally, despite their mistakes and weaknesses. Her tenderness extended to animals, both pets and wildlife. Sue found great pleasure in watching wildlife, providing food and preserving habitat at her home for them. She provided care and shelter to stray cats and dogs, taking many of them into her home. To live as a pet in her home, was much like finding heaven. Sue often quoted her father’s sentiments about being able to tell what a person was truly like by how they treated animals. Lastly, Sue will be remembered by her generosity and unwavering faith in the love of God and the promise of peace at the end of our earthly existence. It was this faith that helped Sue persevere through life’s toughest challenges.
