Charles E. Bain 84, of 1121 O Ave NW, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at his home. A Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 AM Saturday in Twin Pines Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Koske officiating. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9 Am Saturday at the church.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 36 years Mary, their children Ginger (William) Whidden, and Donna Jean (Don) Ellis all of Port Charlotte, Florida, Steven (Marina) Bain of Tucson, Arizona, and Fletcher (Amber) Bain of Marshfield, Wisconsin, two sisters Irene Hix of Memphis, Tennessee, and Evelyn Chapman of Trenton, Tennessee, twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nephews Juan, Arthur, and Donald Bain, a niece Sondra Jowers all of Lexington, Tennessee, and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother Arthur and a sister Helen.
Charles was born July 27, 1925, in Camden, Tennessee, to Dr. Charles and Pauline Hodge Bain. He married
Mary K. Baker on March 7, 1974 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed as a machinist at Kwik-Way manufacturing for fifteen years retiring in 1989. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of Twin Pines Baptist Church and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Helen Marie Branstetter, 90, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at her home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Dan Wiersema will officiate with entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 PM Sunday at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband George Branstetter; three sons Daniel (Barbara) Branstetter of North Bend, WA, Robert (Carol) Branstetter of The Woodland, TX, and Bradley (Belinda) Branstetter of Coppell, TX; three grandsons; three granddaughters; and one older brother Glen Luthi of Gage, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Marie Luthi.
Helen was born September 2, 1919 on her grandma’s wheat farm 10 miles south of Gage, OK, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Schickedanz) Luthi. She married
Edgar George Branstetter on August 2, 1941 in Woodward, OK. Helen graduated from Oklahoma A&M; College in June of 1941 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commercial Education. In 1950 Helen and her family moved to Cedar Rapids from Oklahoma where she became a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and teaching 2 year old children at Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Carolyn Jean Brundrett, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, May 14, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Chris Richards officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 pm Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children, Christine (David) Zinser of Amana, Phillip (Traci) Brundrett Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Patty) Brundrett of Hiawatha; Sisters, Joyce (Dennis) Chamberlain of Versailles, MO, Sharon (Richard) Wilson of Grinnell, IA, Patricia (Lee) Reedy of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandra (Mike) Fruendt of Ladora, IA;
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Phillip Sr. and son Roger.
Carolyn J. Campbell was born December 5, 1943 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Ora & Bernice (McBurney) Campbell. She married
Phillip Brundrett in September of 1960 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Phillip Sr. died in 1999.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Evelyn Harman Beadle, 90, of Marion, died May 10, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her children Doug Beadle of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Beadle of Marion, and Thomas Beadle of Los Angeles, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold, and siblings Marvin Harman, Marjorie Nichols Starr, and Robert Harman.
Evelyn was born November 20, 1919 in rural Cedar Rapids, the daughter of N. Cecil and Mary (Kadlec) Harman. Following her graduation from McKinley High School she was employed by Mercy Hospital and Kresge’s Department Store. She then enjoyed several years of working at Hiltbrunner Music Company. She was united in marriage to Harold E. Beadle on September 23, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Harold preceded her in death in 2001. She was a lifetime resident of Linn County, and was a member of the Creative Artists. She was a talented oil and watercolor artist.
Memorial donations in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Richard W. Bennett

Richard W. Bennett, 78, of 5400 Hunt Rd. near Cedar Rapids died Tuesday May 18, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital after a sudden illness. Per Richard’s request there will be no service. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include two sons, Scott (Jerri) and David (Janet) all of Cedar Rapids, and two brothers, Chuck (Connie) of Marion and Larry (Joy) of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan and Maia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois.
Richard was born on July 1, 1931 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the son of Charles and Florence Freeman Bennett. He married
Lois Sramek in June of 1952 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2002. Richard worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power Company in data processing and retired from there after many years of service. He proudly served in the army.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, skiing, golf and especially the time he spent with his many friends and family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Donald L. Barrigar, 85, of 4003 Treeline Ct. NE, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum officiating. Entombment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the church after 1 PM on Tuesday. Following the service a reception will be held at Elmcrest Country Club.
Survivors include three children; Sharon (Robert) Jadrnicek of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Linda (Dennis) Krog of Marion, and Donald (Diann) Barrigar of Cedar Rapids; a sister Janet (Norm) Long of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren: Rob (Aimee) Jadrnicek, Michael (Rachael) Jadrnicek, Kristen Jadrnicek, Peter and Michelle Buckley, Faith (Jason) Cleveland, Amber and Amanda Krog, Jessica, Jackson, and Victoria Barrigar; seven great grandchildren: Braedon, Jayla, Mikaela, Emma, and Bennet Jadrnicek, and Isabella and Ethan Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother Robert.
Donald was born October 5, 1924, in Waterloo, Iowa to Robert and Marie Wangen Barrigar. A US Navy Veteran serving as a Petty officer First Class Electricians Mate. He married
Vivian C. (Vicki) on January 9, 1945 in San Francisco, California, He founded Acme Electric Co. in 1950. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a member of Elks Club, Elmcrest Country Club, Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, and a Noble in the Elkahir Shrine. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing in Florida, fishing in Canada, and was a licensed private pilot. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Virginia Lee Behrends, 81, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. John Louk of Salem United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include three daughters Virginia (Dale) Jones of Shueyville, Pamela (James) Whitman and Jo Ellen (James) Jacobus, and a son Randy (Sue) Behrends all of Cedar Rapids, two chosen daughters Carol Sheneberger and Marlene (Ronald) Primrose, three brothers Melvin (Bernie) Dennis, Fred and Cecil Dennis all of Cedar Rapids, thirteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Louise Baskerville, and Geraldine Ewing, and a grandson Jameson Jacobus.
Virginia was born January 15, 1929 in North English, Iowa to Charles and Leora Smith Dennis. She married
the love of her life Joseph Everett Behrends on March 8, 1947 in Lawrence, Kansas. He passed away in 1993. She was a cake decorator at the Wilson Ave HyVee for over 25 years, and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Jack Louis Burkhart

Jack Burkhart, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away June 2, 2010 at Willow Gardens Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. There will be no services or visitation per Jack’s wishes. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors are his loving wife of 54 years, Doris; daughter, Janelle of Cedar Rapids; son Jay of Marion; grandchildren, Amber and Anthony of Cedar Rapids; and his sister, Nancy Boddicker of Vinton.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard and Ross; and sisters, Margie and Bernice.
Jack was born February 4, 1929 in Blairstown the son of Jack and Bess Burkhart. He married
Doris Eckert on November 26, 1955. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Herman M. Brown Company for 32 years, and later for 15 at Wendling Quarries. He was a member of Elmcrest Country Club and the Elks Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Myrtle E. Brooks

Myrtle Eileen Brooks, 85, of Belle Plaine, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Per Myrt’s wishes her body has been cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include 2 daughters Linda J. Neels (James G. Tafolla) of Montezuma, IA, and Dawn E. (Charles G.) Farmer of Gainesville, VA; 4 grandchildren; Bill (Kim) Thompson, Sheryl (Todd) Freeborn, Tony (Nancy) Neels, Teresa L. Allbee ; 8 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and a sister Margie Lacy of Star, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband R. Blair Brooks, 2 sisters Evalena Sands and Dorothy Wellborn, and 2 brothers Ival and Ivan Bowen.
Myrt was born August 14, 1924 in Central City, IA the daughter of Clark and Orra (Palmer) Bowen. Myrt married
Robert Dean Akers May 16th, 1942 they were later divorced. She married
R. Blair (Bummer) Brooks June of 1964. She owned and operated a sanitation company with her husband R. Blair. Myrt was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years and was a past president of the Blakely-Steven Post #8876. Myrt also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and play cards.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department.
