Pastor Raymond I. Barrett, 63, passed away Wednesday, March 5, at his home north of Cedar Rapids, after a battle with cancer. He had been Senior Pastor of New Covenant Bible Church since 1993. A memorial service will be held at New Covenant, 1800 46th Street NE in Cedar Rapids, on Sunday, March 9, at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church following the service. Interment will be at Milton Cemetery near his hometown of Dayton, PA. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship memorial has been established at New Covenant.
Survivors include his wife Sharon; two daughters, Sarah Ray and her husband Marty of Plano, TX; Jennifer Becker and her husband Christopher of Fishers, IN; two grandchildren, Caitlin Ray and Elijah Becker; and seven brothers and sisters the Reverend Eugene Barrett, Lyle Barrett, and Verle Barrett, all of Dayton, PA; Patricia Hetrick of New Bethlehem, PA; Dr. Irene Alyn of Cedarville, OH; Pastor James Barrett of Coraopolis, PA; and Paula Reedy of Mars, PA.
Ray held a Bachelor's degree in education from Clarion State College in Pennsylvania, a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate in Pastoral Ministries from Denver Seminary, where his dissertation was on developing servant leadership in the church. He taught junior high in Grand Rapids, Michigan before attending seminary and going into the ministry. He served as Minister of College and Youth in Tyler, TX before becoming Senior Pastor in churches in Fargo, ND; Redwood City, CA; Spokane, WA; Dallas, TX; Fort Collins, CO; and, most recently, Cedar Rapids.
He loved spending time with his family, as well as hunting and fishing with his brothers,
Sons-in-law, and good friends. His passion was seeing people come into personal relationship with Jesus Christ and helping them develop into maturity as godly servant leaders. He deeply loved the people of New Covenant and delighted in the team of godly staff and leaders with whom he shared his life. His life and ministry were a tribute to God's grace, and he presently resides with the Lord he served.

Eleanor M. Ball, 85, of Woodbury, Minnesota, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, June 27, 2003, in the Woodbury Assisted Living Facility in Woodbury, Minnesota following a brief illness. Memorial services at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may register at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Sinclair and husband John of Colchester, Vermont, her son Robert Ball and wife JoAnn of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, her grandchildren, J. P. Sinclair and wife Kelly, Michael Sinclair, and Tony Ball, and her great-grandchildren Brianna and Garrett Sinclair. Also survived by two sister in laws, Pat and Betty Van Fossen, and a brother-in-law Robert Current. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy K. Ball, her parents, three brothers Everett, John, and Loren Van Fossen, and a sister Alma Current.
Eleanor was born August 12, 1917 in Lisbon the daughter of Archie and Elizabeth Watson Van Fossen. She graduated from Lisbon High School. She married
Leroy Ball on May 4, 1941 in Lisbon. He died June 30, 1987. She was also a graduate of Kirkwood Community College and worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at St. Luke's Hospital retiring in 1982. She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Francis M. Baumgartner, 75, of Vinton, died Monday, August 25, 2003, in the Virginia Gay Annex in Vinton following a long illness. Graveside services at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Rev. Mark Urlaub of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday and from noon to 12:45 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband Marvin W., a son Marvin F. Baumgartner and wife Margaret of Mt. Vernon, two daughters Jennie Ruth Galvin of Brownsville, Texas, and Sue Frye and husband Michael of Van Horne, Iowa, a brother John Earl Keaton, and sister Dorothy Bell Womack both of Woodbury, Tennessee, 3 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Francis was born August 21, 1928 in Cannon County, Tennessee to Houston and Jennie Keaton. She married
Marvin W. Baumgartner on August 28, 1951 in Rossville, Georgia. She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton. She collected dolls and enjoyed sewing and baking.
Francis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evelyn R. Burns, 80, of 1080 29th St. in Marion died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Services at 3 PM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mike Morgan and Rev. Nick Longworth will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Clarence and his wife, Katelyn of Marshalltown, Steven and his wife, Mary of Marion and two daughters, Linda Schantz and her husband, Larry of Amana and Barbara Burns Jordan of Ireland. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and many great and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Burns and a son in law, John Jordan.
Evelyn was born on March 16, 1923 in Marion, the daughter of Charles and June Morehouse Dukek. She married
Rev. Clarence R. Burns on Dec. 29, 1942 in Washington, D.C. He died in 1995. Evelyn graduated from Coe College in 1972 and was a substitute teacher for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Memorial donation may be given to St. Lukes Hospice in Evelyn's name.

Mary Madalyn Dunn McGrath, 89, of 3505 English Glen Ave. in Marion died peacefully of natural causes surrounded by her family on Saturday November 20, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral. Mass: 10:30 AM on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Rev. John Gossman, Rev, Bernard Grady and Rev. Tim Seigel will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Wed. A rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Rhonda) of Ankeny, a daughter, Sandra (Irvin “Andy”) Anderson of Marion, two step-sons, Michael McGrath of Dallas, Texas and Richard McGrath of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kathy (Jeff) Akers of Oskaloosa, Cory (Shelly) Dunn, and Charlie (Emily) Dunn all of Ankeny; eight great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands.
Mary was born on October 9, 1921 in Keota, the daughter of Michael and Gertrude Palm Streit. She graduated from Keota High School and attended Coe College. Mary married
Philip R. Dunn on October 9, 1941 in Davenport. He died in 1975. She later married
Gerald F. McGrath on November 25, 1978 in Marion. He died in 2006.
Mary was the co-owner of Streit Feed Co. of Cedar Rapids and Keota from 1949 to 1960. She later was a school secretary at St. Joseph Grade School in Marion from 1968 until her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanford Post No. 5 Auxiliary, Alpha XI Delta Sorority and Chapter LI of the P.E.O. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, penny bingo and wintering in Arizona with her husband, Jerry.

Arlene E. Blackford, 79, of 900 E. Main St., Robins, died Friday at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Rev. Surviving is her husband Raymond of 58 years, a son, Samuel Sharon of Cedar Rapids, daughter, Judi James Randall of Hiawatha, 2 brothers, Don Bernice Jordan of Central City and William Jean Jordan of Apache Junction, Arizona, a sister, Fern Candler of Toddville, 2 sisters in law, Pat Jordan and Pauline Gilmore, both of Cedar Raids, 6 grandchildren, Jeff McMains, Scott Laurie McMains, Lisa Saad, Tom Blackford, Suzanne Blackford and Matthew Blackford and one great granddaughter, Carley Jo McMains.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, LeRoy Jordan and a brother in law, Gerald Blackford.
She was born on April 26, 1924 in Linn County to Kenneth and Pearl Domer Jordan and was married
to Raymond M. Blackford on April 26, 1945 in Vinton, Iowa. Arlene was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Robins and was a member of the Hawkeye Model A Club in Cedar Rapids. She was a graduate of Alburnett High School.
Arlene was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and family get togethers. Arlene and her husband loved fishing and camping with her brothers and sister. Being with family was her entire life and it was felt that she was the cohesive factor at family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1960, her parents, a son Marvin G. Buscher, two grandchildren Jeremy Frame and Scott Buscher, one great-grandchild Anna Buscher, two brothers William and Harold Besler, and four sisters Irene Bush, Laura Rogers, Anna Oberfoell Linderwell, and Eva Sandhagen.
Pearl was born September 1, 1912, the daughter of John and Hannah Cooksley Besler, in Dubuque County, Iowa. Pearl was united in marriage on January 11, 1933 to Peter Johan Buscher in Galena, Illinois. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Pearl was a caring and loving Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and playing cards with her many friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
