Roy Jay Baker, 77, of 6455 Quail Ridge Dr., SW, went to his eternal home on Monday, June 14, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications of Emphysema. Services at 1 PM Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Cedar Hills Community Church, 4980 Gordon Ave NW with Rev. Kent Landhuis and Dr. Leonard Ranson officiating. Entombment with military rites in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the church after 12:00 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis, two children, Susanne Orin Wakefield of Napa California, and David Rebecca Baker of Olin, Iowa, brothers and sisters, Forest Baker, Elmer Colleen Baker, Eugene Baker, Cordell Virginia Baker, Ruthe Arthur Pudgil, and Mary Marvin Wexell, five grandsons, Brandon, Joshua, and Dillon Baker, and Orin Ryan and Brent Wakefield, 3 step-grandchildren, Sarah, Samantha, and Justin Kleinschmidt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Rosella and Keith Spicer. He was preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings, Norval Baker, Nina Groff, Thelma, Garth, and Ralph Baker.
Roy was born in Sac City, Iowa, December 18, 1926 to Nellie Jane Ferguson and Oliver Perry Baker. Roy enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 at the age of 17. He served 23 years during WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired in 1966 as a Master Chief E-9. He then worked for J. C. Penny, Coe College, Cedar Rapids Airport, and Amana Refrigeration.
Roy was united in marriage to Phyllis Wilke on January 24, 1954 in Carroll, Iowa.
He was a member of Cedar Hills Community Church, Fleet Reserve Association, Hanford American Legion Post No 5, and the Pearl Harbor Masonic Lodge of Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Hills Community Church Building In Faith Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Georgiana Jean Boyd
Born in Beloit, Wisconsin on July 16, 1918

Georgiana Jean Boyd, 85, of Delhi, Iowa, died Thursday at the Manor Care Center in Dubuque following a short illness. Private memorial services will be held for the family at a later date.

Surviving is a daughter, Diane Mike Gallagher of East Dubuque, Illinois and a son, Steve Boyd of West Palm Beach, Florida and a granddaughter, Julie Gallagher of Charlotte, North Carolina.

She was born July 16, 1918 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Herman and Leonora Hall Hugle and was married to Melvin Boyd on February 25, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1989.

Jean was a graduate of Beloit College in 1941 and received her postgraduate degree at UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1971. She did volunteer work at Finley Hospital in Dubuque and also the Dubuque Arboretum. She worked with the American Red Cross, having served overseas during World War 2. She and her husband had owned and operated Mel's Market in Waterloo for many years.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Diane Gallagher, 1430 Hiawatha Dr., East Dubuque, Illinois 61025 for local libraries.

Zelma ''Jeanne'' Bischof
Born in Iowa City, Iowa on July 14, 1945

Zelma 'Jeanne' Bischof, 58, of 82 Cardinal Ave. in Atkins, died Sat. June 26, 2004 at her home after a short illness with cancer. Services at 1 PM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Jeffries will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include a son, Matthew and his wife, Michele of Altoona, a daughter, Annie Shaffer and her husband, Zane of Atkins, three brothers, Jim Vermace and his wife, Sandy of Shellknob, MO., Bob Vermace and his wife, Shirley of Iowa City, Charles 'Mort' Vermace of Oxford and two sisters, Dede Harker and her husband, Dale of Oxford and Martha 'Toots' Parks and her husband, Forrest of Hiawatha. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Abraham and Zachary Bischof and Raven Shaffer and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Brad.
Jeanne was born on July 14, 1945 in Iowa City the daughter of Cyril and Wilma Carney Vermace and graduated from Oxford High School in 1963. She married Lyle Bischof on Nov. 21, 1970 in Oxford. They were later divorced. Jeanne was in accounting at the Amana General Store Appliances for over 30 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of a Christian Home Church in Atkins. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jeanne's name.

Bersha E. Brown
Born in Waubeek, Iowa on February 21, 1922

Bersha E. Brown, 82, of 5006 Richmar Lane NW, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in her home following a sudden illness. Services at 10 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include two daughters Sandra Frericks and husband Don of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Jo Lynne Meskimen and husband Bob of Des Moines, one niece and two nephews that she raised, Sarah Speedy and husband Wayne of Louisville, Kentucky, Arden Baker and Adriana of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Dennis Baker of Mesa, Arizona, a sister Theola Baker of Medford, Oregon, ten grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Madeline Hollingshead and a granddaughter Kathrine Speedy.
Bersha was born February 21, 1922 in Waubeek, Iowa to Elmer and Ethyl Doe Moore. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1939. She married Lyle E. Brown on November 30, 1939 in Anamosa, Iowa. He died January 1, 1991. Bersha worked at Collins-Rockwell for 45 years. Some of her assembly items made their way into space via the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. She was in the first group to work on Mercury, and she was the last to go off the Apollo.
She was a member of Malta Chapter 415 Order of Eastern Star, Eu'Cha-Rest Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and the El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary.

Clifford Lyle Dunston
Born in Vinton, Iowa on June 19, 1917
Departed on July 21, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Clifford “Lyle” Dunston, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Keystone Place at Blairs Ferry, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Noelridge Christian Church. Rev. James Cotten will officiate with burial and military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Additional visitation time will be held one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Evelyn; children Lani (Steve) Yates of Waterloo and Dennis (Sherrie) Dunston of Woodland, CA; grandchildren Dustin Yates, Brett Yates and Sean Dunston; and two sisters Lorna Banse and Janelle Beresford both of Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Maza Dunston.

Clifford Lyle Dunston was born June 19, 1917 in Vinton, IA, the son of Roy Milton and Harriet Maza (Wyckoff) Dunston. He attended the first 4 1/2 years of schooling in a one room country school; he graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton, IA in 1935. He attended the State University of Iowa from 1937 to 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1941 to January 1946, three of the years serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of operations. He married Evelyn Corbett on June 23, 1941 on her family farm home northeast of Vinton. In September of 1946 he returned to the State University of Iowa and received a BSC degree in June1947. He was an employee (Field Agent) of the IRS for 29 years, retiring in May of 1977.

Clifford was associated with the Boy Scouts of America for 9 years, a member of the American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Wyckoff House Association, a life member of the Reserve Officers Association of America, a charter member of the Noelridge Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Vice Chairman of the Board, and a Trustee. Clifford and Evelyn engaged in square dancing for many years and he enjoyed fishing and mechanical endeavors most of his life.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, Noelridge Christian Church, or the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion, Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Margaret Marie Baldwin
Born in Jones County, Iowa on December 12, 1909
Departed on July 20, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Margaret Marie Baldwin, 94, of Willow Gardens formerly of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at St. Lukes after a long illness. Services at 10 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the Chapel after 9 AM on Friday.
Survivors include four daughters, Aleta Glenn Futrell of Hampton, Arlene Russ Edwards of Granite City, Ill., Beth Jim Coder of Marion, Amie Paul Womachka of Cedar Rapids, five sons, Leeon 'Bud' of Cedar Rapids, Arnold Mary Beth of South Beloit, ILL., Gary Helen of Lafayette, Oregon, Larry 'Hal' Karen of Patterson, California and Dale Mari of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Alan, 2 daughters, Jane Cliff Seibert and Ada, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Marie was born on Dec. 12, 1909 in Jones County, the daughter of Reese and Cora Gilbrieth Taylor. She married Leeon H. Baldwin on March 24, 1929 in Manchester. They were later divorced. She was a private nurse's aid CNA for several Cedar Rapids families for many years. Marie was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the Witwer Senior Creative Writing Class and St. Lukes Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, Hawkeye and Cub's fan and had several of her poems published. A memorial fund has been established in Marie's name.

Abby Amelia Bowman
Born in Cedar Rapids on October 10, 1984
Departed on July 25, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Abby Amelia Bowman: 19, died Sunday night, July 25, 2004 from injuries suffered in a car/pedestrian accident in downtown Cedar Rapids. A memorial gathering and celebration of Abby's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at People's Unitarian Church, Cedar Rapids, led by the Rev. Linda Hansen. Please bring your remembrances to share. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Abby was born on October 10, 1984. She was the loving daughter of Carrie Kriz Cedar Rapids and Charles Bowman Central City. Abby attended Coggon Elementary School, Troy Mills Middle School and graduated from Washington High School in 2003. She was currently taking classes toward the surgical technologist program at Kirkwood Community College. Abby worked part time at The History Center, Cottage Grove Place and most recently, the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Abby was a precocious child, an inquisitive, fun-loving girl and a vivacious, beautiful young woman who was just embarking on life's journey. She had wide-ranging interests from forensic science to her pet rats. She loved animals, nature, singing, music and multicultural diversity. Abby had a compassionate heart, quick-silver temper, offbeat sense of humor and radiant smile. She was a kind and gentle spirit who touched all who knew her.

Survivors include: her parents, grandparents Darlene and Richard Kriz of Cedar Rapids and Edith LeMoind of Iowa Falls; aunts and uncles, Amy and Mark Ackman of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer and Douglas Slauson of Swisher and Kathryn Bowman Crowley of Ankeny; cousins, Aaron and Sierra Ackman, Anne and Katie Slauson, Tammy Crowley Ross and Christopher Crowley. Abby is also survived by a large extended family and many many friends, including special friend, Tim Bascom. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Stanton LeMoind. We all loved her and will miss her deeply.

A memorial fund has been established in Abby's memory.
